Britney Spears Calls ‘X Factor’ A ‘Beautiful Concept’

Spears says she wants to ‘inspire’ contestants on the Fox show. By Jocelyn Vena “X Factor” judges L.A. Reid, Demi Lovato, Simon Cowell and Britney Spears at the FOX Upfront Photo: Desiree Navarro/ Getty Images Britney Spears seems poised and ready to sit beside her fellow “X Factor” judges on the revamped second season of the show . At the Fox upfront this week, the singer appeared alongside fellow newbie Demi Lovato , as well as returning judges Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid, and gushed about the Fox reality show. “Just really being able to be there and inspire the other contestants … they’re so young and they’re trying to fulfill their dreams,” she said at the event. “It’s just a whole beautiful concept. It’s just really cool.” While her negotiations with the show had been making headlines in the weeks leading up to the official announcement, Cowell brushed off all the hoopla, which includes a rumored $15 million payday for joining the show. “A force of nature, I was somewhere in the middle, but I’m thrilled. I love these guys,” he said of getting everyone, including Spears, on board. “I charmed her.” Spears seemed equally taken with the prickly Brit. “He’s adorable. He’s completely adorable. He didn’t have to try hard,” she admitted. Spears’ addition to the show is hardly the only casting making news: Lovato also opened up about having the “X Factor.” While little is known about the final hours going into locking Lovato in for the show, she’s rumored to be taking in $1 million, according to Gossip Cop . Lovato was on a short list of possible contenders to appear on the show that also reportedly included Miley Cyrus and Avril Lavigne. “I’m so excited to be here,” she said. “I guess you called,” she added with Simon by her side. “And that’s how it got set up, just a phone call.” In addition to getting warm and fuzzy about each other in the interview, Cowell shared that the judges will be filming in the next couple weeks when they hit up Austin, Texas, to begin scoping out talent. And if you think the claws might come out then, Reid assured viewers that that won’t be the case. “Oh no, we’re gonna be really sweet to each other,” he said. “Nothing controversial. It’ll be perfect.” Related Artists Britney Spears

Chris Brown Drops ‘Way Too Cold’ Freestyle, Jabs At Rihanna?

Hip-hop star takes a shot at an ex-girlfriend but denies song is about Rih. By John Mitchell Rihanna and Chris Brown Photo: Getty Images Chris Brown has released a freestyle version of Kanye West’s “Way Too Cold,” and his lyrics seem to have landed the controversial Grammy-winning hip-hop star in hot water with ex-girlfriend Rihanna. On the track, Brown raps, “Don’t f— with my old bitch it’s like a bad fur/ Every industry n—a done had her/ Shook the tree like a pumpkin just to smash her/ Bitch is breaking codes, but I’m the password.” Brown tweeted a link to the freestyle early Thursday morning (May 10) and was met with a prompt response from Rihanna, who tweeted , “Aw, poor dat #neaux1currrrr.” She then immediately unfollowed Brown on the social network. For his part, Brown hit Twitter again Thursday morning to issue a pseudo-denial that the song is about Rihanna. But in so doing, he appeared to take a shot at her, writing, “Assumptions! I didn’t say any names so if u took offense to it then it’s something you feel guilty about.” Interestingly, Brown’s alleged verbal takedown of Rihanna comes just a few months after the stars reunited on a pair of much-debated duets , a move that many saw as a public statement that Rihanna had forgiven Brown for assaulting her the night before the 2009 Grammy Awards. Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault and accepted a plea deal of community labor, five years’ formal probation and domestic violence counseling. Rihanna appears on Brown’s remix of “Turn Up the Music,” and Brown cameos on a particularly explicit extended version of Rihanna’s Talk That Talk track “Birthday Cake,” which currently sits at #2 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-hop song chart. “We did two records — one for my fans, one for his fans — and that way our fans can come together,” Rihanna explained to Ryan Seacrest of her controversial decision to team up with her ex. “There shouldn’t be a divide, you know? It’s music and it’s innocent. Related Artists Chris Brown Rihanna

Kristen Stewart Amused By ‘Snow White’ Co-Star Charlize Theron

‘I love the effect she has on people,’ KStew tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Charlize Theron in “Snow White and the Huntsman” Photo: Universal Despite their obvious differences both onscreen and off, Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron have formed a bond during the filming of “Snow White and the Huntsman” and even more so during the current press tour in support of the film. When MTV News caught up with Stewart recently, we asked her to compare the familiar scenario of doing interviews with her longtime “Twilight” co-stars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner versus her new castmate, the lovely Ms. Theron. “When Rob, Taylor and I do interviews together, they usually don’t actually ask us anything. We just get to hang out and people like to watch that,” Stewart said with a laugh. “It’s fine, because I like hanging out with those guys, but it is weird. With Charlize, it’s been great, because we’re so proud of the movie and we actually only worked together for three days, so we got to know each other probably more or at least on a certain level during press, and it’s been nice. It’s been fun.” Stewart said she especially admires Theron’s ability to light up a room with her energy and humor. “Some people intimidate you. Some people’s energy is so big you feel like you don’t fit in the room, but with her, I really appreciate how different we are. I love the effect she has on people,” Stewart said. “I find it hilarious. I love watching it happen. I do not have that. Maybe I have something else, but it’s definitely not as visceral. Also, she’s really hilarious,” she added, noting that the Oscar winner uses the more colorful swear words with particular aplomb. “[She] puts me to shame, to be honest,” Stewart said. Jennifer Lopez Hints She May Not Return To ‘American Idol’

‘I don’t know if I can go for a third year. I miss doing other things,’ Lopez says about her ‘Idol’ gig. By Gil Kaufman Jennifer Lopez Photo: MTV News Negotiating tactic or real threat? That’s what eagle-eyed “American Idol” fans were probably wondering on Tuesday after Jennifer Lopez hinted that she might not be back for a third season. Appearing with co-star Cameron Diaz on “Ellen,” to promote her upcoming movie, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” Lopez said she’s had a blast during two seasons on “Idol,” but her time may be up. “I really do enjoy it,” she said after telling DeGeneres she wasn’t sure what her future on “Idol” might be. “Now this is my second year — I don’t know if I can go for a third year. I miss doing other things. It really does lock you down, which was nice the first year with the babies being three, but now they’re getting more mobile, they’re about to go into school … So I just don’t know.” Lopez joined the show in 2010 for season 10 along with Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler and reportedly makes $12 million a season. And while that’s $2 million more than Christina Aguilera makes on “The Voice,” it is at least $3 million less than new “X Factor” judge Britney Spears will reportedly earn when she makes her debut in the fall. While appearing on “Access Hollywood” on Monday night, Lopez offered some advice to Spears and the other new “Factor” judge, Demi Lovato
. “I was like, ‘Live TV! Eek.’ It’s a big thing to take on, but I think they’re both more than capable to handle it,” Lopez said just hours after Spears and Lovato made it official. “Working with the singers and doing your thing and knowing what you’re talking about from experience, and they both have that,” she said of translating her music business expertise into judging advice. And, after a season in which some critics have said she and Tyler have been exceedingly easy on “Idol” contestants, Lopez also counseled that it’s perfectly okay to root for the good guy. “You don’t have to be tough,” she said. “There’s not one way to do that, reality TV, and those competition shows [are] about being yourself. It’s about being your best self, and I think that’s the most important thing.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Trouble Does The Time On His 431 Days Mixtape

‘This is one of my biggest mixtapes that I dropped in a long time,’ host DJ Bigga Rankin tells Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman, with reporting by FLX Trouble Photo: MTV News Mixtape Daily Main Pick Headliners : Trouble, DJ Bigga Rankin, DJ Teknikz and DJ Frank White Representing : Atlanta Mixtape : 431 Days Real Spit : Time waits for no man. It’s an age-old adage that Atlanta rapper Trouble is fully aware of. On December 17, 2008, the Duct Tape Entertainment MC was jailed on aggravated assault, and exactly two years later, in 2010, he was released. The date holds so much significance for Trouble that he went on to name his debut mixtape December 17th and then his latest tape 431 Days, signifying the amount of time between his release from jail and the tape’s March 27 release. “This is one of my biggest mixtapes that I dropped in a long time,” DJ Bigga Rankin, one of 431 Days ‘ three hosts, told Mixtape Daily. “When he speaks, he speaks the truth.” While some rappers choose to focus their attention on the club or big radio hits, Trouble specializes in emotive street material. It isn’t that he simply raps about his experience in the trap; the Zone 6 spitter takes things a step further and explores the feelings that surround his harsh realities. On “Never Understand,” Trouble teams with Bun B to explain what makes him different from his rap contemporaries. “Confused ass, little bustas bussin’, all over nothin’/ Catch a case and then turn state, who can you trust in,” Trouble raps about so-called hustlers who are ill-prepared for the drug game’s consequences. The entire 431 Days tape is peppered with this type of analysis. “All I’m Worried About” is a dedication to the rapper’s family and closest friends. With his very first line, Trouble makes it clear where his allegiances lie: “Every plate I get with food on it, I take it to my moms/ Not just crumbs, you n—as really bums.” Gucci Mane also shows up for “Hustle Ambition,” Verse Simmonds on the female-friendly “Would You” and, of course, Alley Boy and Big Bank Black from Duct Tape contribute as well. Throughout the 17-track mixtape, Trouble displays an overwhelming sense of urgency. There isn’t a wasted song, as the MC paints a focused picture with each track. Here’s to his next 431 days! Jay-Z Says Jay Electronica Album Is ‘Really Close’

‘Him as a lyricist is almost scary. He’s scary good,’ Jigga tells MTV News of his Roc Nation signee. By Rob Markman Jay-Z Photo: MTV News There’s nothing typical about Jay Electronica . In fact, many wondered how the enigmatic MC would fit in with the major-label system at all. Luckily for Jay Elec, his Roc Nation boss Jay-Z is sympathetic to the sensibilities of his creative spirit. “I love that, I want to support that sort of energy. I want people to be creative and not traditional, not just a single [at] this time, this time [and] this time,” Jay-Z told MTV News on Monday, when he was in Philadelphia to announce his two-day Made in America music festival . “You know, he operates at his own time, but the album is really close.” Hov announced in November 2010 that he signed Elect to his budding Roc Nation label. Jigga insisted then that his goal was to “reintroduce magic to hip-hop,” and a year and a half later, the God MC is still excited by the New Orleans rapping wizard. Electronica has long hyped his official debut, Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn), with gleeful tweets, sending periodic updates on the LP’s progress. In March he messaged fans, stating that the wait was finally over and the album was complete, though he made no reference to any release date. “Dear Believers and Patient Supporters. Thank you for your patience and support. The Album will be turned in Tomorrow evening. The wait ends,” he tweeted. Still, when it comes to the “Exhibit C” rapper’s sporadic music-release patterns, there is no telling. In April he dropped “Dear Moleskine.” Before that, in October 2011, it was the Prodigy-assisted “Call of Duty” , and before that, back in November 2010, there was “Shiny Suit Theory.” It’s not a pace traditionally suited for today’s rap race. But Jay-Z assures us that there is an album and that it’s pretty damn good, if he does say so himself. “It’s exactly what it should be — it’s amazing. Him as a lyricist is almost scary. He’s scary good,” Jigga gushed. “I’m doing something to it that’s really untraditional, so we’ll see how it works.” Are you eagerly anticipating Jay Electronica’s debut album?
