Drake, Nicki Minaj Open Up About His ‘Crush’ On Her

Drake says the MCs have a ‘playful relationship.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe Nicki Minaj and Drake Photo: Young Money/Cash Money Young Money stars Nicki Minaj and Drake are two of the hottest MCs in hip-hop, and their relationship has some thinking that the pair are hooking up in ways beyond a label affiliation. The stars were candid about their feelings for each other in recent interviews with MTV2’s “Sucker Free Countdown” — and addressed rumors that their relationship isn’t strictly platonic. “Me and Nicki have a really playful relationship,” Drake told DJ Envy. “When I was on tour … I saw Nicki for the first time and, like, literally fell in love. She had this snap-back hat on that said ‘Minaj.’ She used to wear that every single day. She was like a theater student and she was so cold at rapping.” Drake — who rushed to Minaj’s defense last week after Lil’ Kim said some untoward things about her — said that before breaking through, he had to contend with her somewhat icy demeanor. “I remember one of the first nights that we were out in Miami and I went to Jerry’s [Famous Deli]. I was like [to Minaj], ‘You want food, you hungry?,’ and she was like, ‘Yeah, I want some food.’ I was like, ‘I’m in, we gon’ eat food together.’ I came to her door and she took the food and shut the door in my face! I was just like, ‘Man, this is gonna be a long road for us.’ ” But Drake maintains that his feelings for her have always been genuine. “I’ve always really, actually, really had a crush on her, always really loved her, and she’s always just looked at me as, like, her little brother.” Envy pointed to a line on the track “Miss Me” from Drake’s Thank Me Later LP — which is released Tuesday — where he says he wants to put a ring on it as proof of his true feelings for Minaj. “I love Nicki Minaj/ I told her I’d admit it/ I hope one day we get married just to say we f—ing did it/ And girl, I’m f—ing serious/ I’m with it if you with it/ ‘Cause your verses turn me on and your pants are mighty fitted,” Drake spits. But Drizzy insisted the lyric is not that deep. “That line on the album is just me playing with her. I’ll be playing with her for years until she’s ready to go, and then I’m ready,” he added. For her part, Minaj shrugged off any notion that she and the Young Money heartthrob are more than friends. She giggled when Envy broached the subject but then immediately shut down rumors. “Drake does not have a crush on me,” Minaj assured Envy. When Envy brought up the “Miss Me” lyric, Minaj responded, “Drake knows how to get you guys’ attention.” As one of the most sought-after MCs in the game right now, Minaj is probably getting stepped to all the time. But when Envy asked how dudes should approach the diva, she dismissed the idea of a relationship. “I don’t want to be hollered at right now. I just don’t. I wanna go and hibernate and coop up somewhere and be alone,” said Minaj, adding that she’s waiting until after her debut hits shelves before she gets scooped up. “Then maybe we can talk.” Catch more Nicki Minaj with DJ Envy on the “Sucker Free Summer Countdown” from Boston’s 94.5 Summer Jam, this Sunday, June 20, at noon ET only on MTV2. Nicki Minaj Talks Possible 50 Cent Collabo

Young Money diva breaks down the possibility of working with her fellow Queens natives. By Mawuse Ziegbe Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News Nicki Minaj is steadily building a rep as one of hip-hop’s most unpredictable artists with her ever-changing Day-Glo hair colors and collaborations with everyone from Robin Thicke to Mariah Carey to Ludacris . With the buzz about the “Massive Attack” MC’s upcoming debut album heating up, fans are on the lookout for who the Young Money Barbie may work with next. As one of the biggest stars to come out of Queens in recent years, a collabo with Southside titan 50 Cent might be a logical step. However, Minaj said that despite sharing a hometown, she and Fif haven’t come across each other yet. “Our paths never crossed, and it’s weird,” Minaj told DJ Envy in a recent episode of MTV2’s “Sucker Free.” “I did meet [Lloyd] Banks, like, once or twice before.” Even if Minaj is planning a major Queens anthem with 50 Cent, she’s keeping the details under wraps. “If there is a big surprise, I’m not gonna tell you, Envy,” Minaj teased. “I know everybody will know by the time I say it. You gonna tweet it and stuff. It’s gonna be on the radio. I mean, why would I tell you that?” If a Minaj/50 collabo did go down, the rising star would have something else in common with fellow femcee Lil’ Kim, who has been taking shots at the Young Money diva. Kim and Fif worked together on the raunchy hit “Magic Stick” from Kim’s 2003 album, La Bella Mafia. It would also be an interesting matchup since 50 has been going at Minaj collaborator and rumored manager Diddy in recent interviews, saying the Bad Boy mogul’s music “sucks right now.” Do you want to see and Nicki and Fiddy duet? Kristen Stewart Calls Miley Cyrus’ ‘The Climb’ Her ‘Theme Song’

‘And I’m sticking to it,’ the ‘Eclipse’ star tells MTV News of her surprising personal soundtrack. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News Although her character, Bella Swan, is under siege by raging newborns in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” Kristen Stewart tells us her portrayal was a far less tortured one this time around. So much so that she ditched her plan to make an “Eclipse” playlist, a practice that helped her get into Bella’s moody headspace on “New Moon.” Instead, she went back to listening to regular old KStew tunes. “I always listen to music, but I had particular music that I listened to on ‘New Moon,’ but didn’t really have to for ‘Eclipse,’ ” she told MTV News over the weekend, while promoting the June 30 flick in Los Angeles. “I just listened to my normal music. Bella’s less tortured. She’s less conflicted. I mean … it’s the most she’s conflicted about the love triangle [but] that happens sort of at the end.” Stewart said that for the most part she “cruises through” the drama in the third movie, adding that the real dilemma is Bella’s struggle to adapt to her future as a vampire: “The main conflict is the danger and the fact that she’s losing her human life. That her family’s gonna soon maybe go away. When I was doing ‘New Moon,’ I needed the music and I needed my iPod all the time and I needed to be in my own little head, but in ‘Eclipse’ it was more about the story was just different.” So what’s a “normal” soundtrack for Stewart? Well, it turns out she has Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga on repeat . “[I’ve] probably [been listening to] a little bit of both,” Stewart admitted. “But I don’t know, ‘The Climb’ is my theme song — and I’m sticking to it.” Are you surprised to hear Kristen Stewart is a Miley Cyrus fan? Katy Perry Explains Her Lady Gaga ‘Blasphemy’ Tweet

‘Spirituality and sexuality are two separate things, and then when you decide to put them into the same subject, it gets interesting for some people,’ she says. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP/ Getty Images Last week, the same day Lady Gaga premiered her clip for “Alejandro,” fellow pop star Katy Perry posted a tweet that many fans thought was in response to the video’s religious imagery. “Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke,” Perry posted. In a new radio interview, the “California Gurls” singer clarified her comment, noting that it wasn’t solely about Gaga. “What’s funny is that everybody was assuming I was directing it completely towards her, and if I was directing something I would write their ‘@,’ ” she told a French radio station Sunday in a clip posted on PerezHilton.com . “Lately, I’ve just been seeing some things that are kind of like, I don’t know, in my own personal feelings, a little bit like not something I would do, I guess.” She went on to specify that it wasn’t just Gaga’s “Alejandro” that left her underwhelmed by pop culture’s use of religious imagery. “You know, when Madonna was on a cross, and sometimes my boyfriend will say things that are a little bit ‘eh’ for me, from where I come from,” she said of her upbringing with her parents, who are both pastors. “It’s hard for me to say that, because sometimes I’m a very hypocritical person. Everybody’s like, ‘How do you say that and you kissed a girl?’ And I think sometimes, most of the time, you can disagree or agree, spirituality and sexuality are two separate things, and then when you decide to put them into the same subject, it gets interesting for some people.” Perry said that regardless of her opinions on using religion in pop culture, she still loves Gaga. “Everybody knows, I’ve said it maybe 100 times on my Twitter, I’m one of the biggest Lady Gaga fans and Madonna fans and Russell Brand fans,” she explained. “It’s just that, like, of course, some people have different viewpoints.” Are you surprised that Katy wasn’t a fan of Gaga’s video? Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder, Kings Of Leon Beat The Heat At Bonnaroo

Flanigan/ WireImage MANCHESTER, Tennessee — There was mud, rain, oppressive heat, a set by a world-beating rap superstar ( Jay-Z ), a classic soul icon ( Stevie Wonder ), a former “Tonight Show” host (Conan O’Brien) and a jam-band legend ( Dave Matthews Band ). In other words, just another action-packed weekend at the ninth-annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival . From Thursday through Sunday, more than 75,000 fans tried to escape triple-digit temperatures by tuning in to ferocious sets from Jay, a midnight mindfunk from the Flaming Lips, anthemic rock from kind-of hometown boys Kings of Leon and just about every flavor in between. Thursday night eased travelers in with a main stage set from British trio the xx, whose

Brandon Flowers’ Debut Single, ‘Crossfire,’ Hits The Net

Song is a preview of the Killers’ frontman’s solo album “Flamingo.” By James Montgomery Brandon Flowers Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images While his bandmates keep busy hanging out with members of Duran Duran and forming side projects with ominous-sounding names , Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has been prepping his solo debut, a glossy thing he’s calling Flamingo . And now, whether he’s ready or not, fans can get their first listen to the fruits of Flowers’ solo labors: A song called “Crossfire” hit the ‘Net this weekend. The song, a slow-burning, wide-screen epic on par with the Killers’ Sam’s Town era, features spiraling, Edge-ian guitars, trilling strings and a massive chorus, with Flowers keening “Lay your body down/ next to mine!” in a lithe falsetto. Elsewhere, he croons about the devil’s fiery arrows and a clandestine lover who keeps her secrets on her pillow. “Crossfire” is reportedly produced by Stuart Price, who helmed the Killers’ 2008 album Day & Age . Price is one of three big-name knob-twiddlers Flowers is working with on Flamingo . In May, he told the British mag NME that he had also recruited Daniel Lanois and Brendan O’Brien to produce, and that Rilo Kiley frontwoman Jenny Lewis would also appear on the disc. There’s currently no release date for Flamingo , nor is there any word from the Killers’ reps about whether or not “Crossfire” is actually the debut single from the album. Over on Flowers’ official site , however, an instrumental version of “Crossfire” autoplays and the title of the song is written in flaming letters at the bottom of the page. A spokesperson for Flowers did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment by press time. Related Artists The Killers

Travis Porter Are ‘Killing’ Indie Scene With Proud To Be A Problem

Unsigned Atlanta trio say new mixtape is ‘giving most signed artists problems,’ in Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Travis Porter Photo: MTV News This Week’s Main Pick Street Kings : Travis Porter Holding It Down For : ATL Mixtape : Proud to Be a Problem. Real Spit : Strap, Quez and Ali are bringing that youthful energy with a club banger and the Atlanta trio have fans on the Internet riding for them heavy. “At the moment we are an independent problem,” Quez explained of Travis Porter’s new mixtape Proud to Be a Problem. “We’re proud of it!” he added, acknowledging that the group has earned strong buzz in the South without the backing of a major. “It’s really a good vs. bad thing. It’s a good problem because we letting other independent artists know it’s possible to be known and out there, just grindin’. It’s a bad problem because we’re giving most signed artists problems.” As you can tell, these guys aren’t exactly modest about their increasing popularity. Several months ago, Travis Porter hooked up with Roscoe Dash and put out a version of “All the Way Turnt Up.” Eventually Dash, who came up with the song, released it officially through his own label, Interscope. The Interscope version didn’t feature Travis Porter, but included Soulja Boy. Still, TP kept their movement going, releasing the Problem mixtape a few weeks back — the downloads were crazy. And the group is in no rush to sign with a major label just yet. “At the moment, we’re like a high school player on the verge of going to college,” Strap said of Travis Porter’s unsigned status. “We have to pick the right one. We have to weigh out all the options and pick the best deal accordingly. When that time comes, we’ll make that decision. But at the moment, we’re killing the independent scene.” Quez and Ali have a familial bond and they’ve known Strap since they were 12. “Well, me and Ali are stepbrothers,” Quez began to explain. “So we been knowing each other. We met Strap in like the 6th grade and made a group called the Hard Hittaz and been makin’ great music ever since.” Travis Porter also have a short film out to accompany their mixtape. Kristen Stewart On Robert Pattinson’s Other Ideas For Best Kiss Award Acceptance Speech

‘He wanted to light a match while I was juggling and he was hula hooping,’ Stewart says of Pattinson’s alternate ideas for the MTV Movie Awards. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News Without a doubt, one of the most talked-about moments of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards was Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s acceptance “speech” for winning the Golden Popcorn for Best Kiss. Fans loved the quick, awkward kiss Pattinson grabbed from Stewart onstage, but when MTV caught up with him backstage afterwards, he admitted that the stunt didn’t work out the way they’d planned. Apparently Pattinson had other ideas for ways the two “Twilight” stars could accept the award, so when MTV News caught up with Stewart at the press junket for “Eclipse,” we couldn’t resist asking her about them. “He did have some pretty funny ones,” she admitted. But when asked if she regretted not acting on any of Pattinson’s ideas, she responded, “No, no, definitely not. I’m really glad that we didn’t do his.” What was Pattinson’s best suggestion, you might ask? It seems as if he took a page right out of the book of his upcoming film “Water for Elephants” for this one. “He wanted to be hula hooping with a match in his mouth, and then he wanted to light a match while I was juggling and he was hula hooping, and he wanted to put it in my mouth and see if we could make our way over to each other … it didn’t really make a whole lot of sense to me,” Stewart said with a laugh. “I was like, ‘I can’t juggle onstage in shoes. I can barely walk up the stairs.’ ” Stewart didn’t even make it to the stairs this year before she almost fell when she went up with Pattinson to accept the Best Kiss award. At least it was a bit more coordinated than last year’s Movie Awards, when Stewart dropped her Golden Popcorn statue for Best Female Performance during her acceptance speech. “What’s really funny is I really, really don’t try to do that stuff. I try to be [smooth]. This year especially, I was like, I’m just going to give them exactly what they want, I’m going to be totally cool, I’m going to thank everybody,” she said. “I got up there, and I was like, ‘Chris directed the movie, and he’s awesome. Thanks.’ And I had to get off, like that.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
