B.o.B Says Debut Album Has Some ‘Surprising Factors’

‘You can’t just understand me with one song,’ he says of B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray. By Steven Roberts Photo: MTV News B.o.B has forged quite a path for himself during his brief time in the music industry. The promising young MC is set to release his debut album, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, on Tuesday (April 27) after a year that included announcements of alleged retirements , label squabbling and two name changes (Bobby Ray and then back again to B.o.B). Now B.o.B finds himself with the #2 record in the country and his collaboration with Paramore’s Hayley Williams following close behind. B.o.B said that he and his fans are finally ready for his full-length effort. “Getting to this point and finally getting an album out — I know I speak on behalf of all my fans — it’s been a very long wait and I feel like everybody’s finally ready for it,” he explained. “Even though I’ve had a lot of music in the past, I feel like now it’s timing, because timing plays a huge role in the success of things — especially me, and getting here really took a lot of online presence, a lot of performing. It took a lot of shows. “It took a lot of building relationships,” he continued. “Even with the fans, you have to build the relationship with the fans. Someone may just like one song, but that’s just one song. You really have got to build and grow. My music has a wide variety to it, so you can’t just understand me with one song.” B.o.B joked that it would probably take the average listener 10 songs to get to know him — his album is eclectic and not short on guest appearances, featuring T.I., Lupe Fiasco, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer and Eminem . “I think now people know what they should expect, and even still, playing the album for people they’re still like, ‘Wow, I didn’t know it was going to be that,’ ” he said of fans’ reactions. “I think the fans know to expect decent music. I don’t think anybody’s expectations will be low for it, but I feel like it will definitely have some surprising factors to it.” What do you think of B.o.B’s debut? Let us know in the comments below! Eve Talks Interscope Split

‘They promised me the machine,’ she tells Vibe of why she left longtime recording home. By Jayson Rodriguez Eve Photo: Stefanie Keenan/ Getty Images Eve’s “Tambourine” stopped shaking awhile ago when her album Here I Am was shelved indefinitely by Interscope. The Philly rapper confirmed a rift with her longtime recording home when she tweeted back in January that she had left the label. Now, she’s opening up about her reasons in an interview with Vibe. The former first lady of the Ruff Ryders alleged she didn’t get the proper backing from Interscope for what would have been her next LP. “They promised me the machine,” she said. “The machine is basically the rollout. It’s ‘Yo, when [“Flirt”] comes out, we’ll give you this, we’ll give you that.’ And that’s what made me mad. It’d be different if we didn’t have a meeting where people promised me sh–. If they were just like, ‘Oh, we’re going to put the album out and see what happens,’ that would be one thing. “But they were like, ‘No, we’re making sure this happens. It’s coming out on this date,’ ” she continued. “It was concrete. But it’s all good. Everything happens how it’s supposed to, when it’s supposed to.” For the stalled Here I Am, Eve recorded with Swizz Beatz, Sean Paul and Robin Thicke. Back in 2007, she gushed about working with the blue-eyed crooner. “The Robin song is called ‘Fantasy,’ ” she told MTV News. “My lyrics are basically talking about ladies — how when guys see you in a club but [aren’t] ready to talk to you. Like a guy who sees you in a club and he wants to do all these things to you. … You’re his fantasy. It’s real. A guy might be looking out from across the club like, ‘Oh my God, I love her,’ but you might not even know he’s looking at you.” Currently, Eve is unsigned and at work on her next album. Young Jeezy Reveals His Paranoia In ‘Lose My Mind’ Video

In new clip, featuring Plies, Jeezy parties hard while thinking about more dangerous times. By Jayson Rodriguez Young Jeezy in his “Lose My Mind” video Young Jeezy delivered the unofficial anthem for Barack Obama’s election with his last album, The Recession, and the Atlanta MC is back in the streets with his forthcoming effort Thug Motivation 103. The video for the album’s first single “Lose My Mind” featuring Plies premiered on MTV 2 on Monday (April 26), and from the onset, Jeezy takes it back to his trap days. “I got a lot going on,” he begins in a voiceover, as he’s seen chatting with his USDA cohort Boo Rossini. “Rap stuff, street stuff, it’s all the same things. Pressure bust pipes, holes sink ships.” From there, Jeezy ventures to the club, where he boasts about the riches fame has afforded him. In a stark, black-and-white visual, director Taj captures the Def Jam superstar in his glory. But as images flash of girls, bottles and hangers-on enjoying the celebrations, the clip catches Jeezy battling the paranoia he still experiences from his former occupation. “Like I was saying, I just feel different,” he says, midway through the clip, picking up the conversation where the video’s intro leaves off. A solitary Jeezy is then shown walking to a men’s room, rubbing his eyes and distancing himself from the festivities. He ambles into a stall and turns around to see a figure rising from a covered gurney. The hallucination ends with Jeezy in a leather straitjacket, reflecting the song’s lyrics: “I’m hearing voices in my head/ Think I’m schizophrenic,” he raps. “I swear they sayin’ ‘Let’s Get It’/ From another planet.” “To me, it’s my life,” Jeezy told MTV News last month about the track. “That’s how I feel sometimes when I go out. If you listen to me, I said it a few times: ‘Lost my mind and my cell phone in the same night.’ No two days are the same. … I been partying my whole life. That’s how you feel the next day. You killed them, and you left. You was looking good, shining good, there’s no limit to what you can have in the club. That’s how it’s been for us before music. ” ‘Lose My Mind’ is doing what the hell I wanna do in the club. If it’s 100 bottles of ros

LL Cool J Vibes On Jimi Hendrix For #MusicMonday

LL has been listening to the late icon’s newly released Valleys of Neptune. By Kyle Anderson, with reporting by Gil Kaufman LL Cool J Photo: MTV News LL Cool J is a rarity: A first wave hip-hop legend who has managed to continuously elevate his profile for more than two decades and counting. So, it seems only natural that for #MusicMonday, he told us that his current musical obsession is a healthy combination of something classic and something current. “I just bought Jimi Hendrix’s new album Valleys of Neptune, ” the man born James Todd Smith told MTV News on the red carpet of the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas on April 18. “Hendrix’s new album” sounds about as unlikely as “LL Cool J at the ACMs,” but in reality, Valleys of Neptune includes 12 previously unreleased tracks recorded by the Jimi Hendrix Experience just after the release of 1969’s Electric Ladyland (and shortly before his death in 1970). It includes a finished version of the title track, which had never been heard anywhere before, as well a cover of Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love” and alternate versions of Hendrix classics like “Stone Free,” “Fire” and “Red House,” the latter of which is currently LL’s favorite jam. “I’ve been listening to ‘There’s a red house over yonder,’ ” the rapper said, singing the lyrics. “So don’t get me started!” LL is probably better recognized as an actor nowadays, as he can be seen every week on CBS’ “NCIS: Los Angeles,” starring alongside Chris O’Donnell. The Grammy and VMA winner’s last album was 2008’s Exit 13, but his most recent musical contribution was “NCIS: No Crew Is Superior,” a song about his character and his experiences on the show. ‘Glee’ Creator Is ‘Entertaining’ Idea Of Britney Spears-Themed Episode

After Lady Gaga and Madonna eps, Ryan Murphy says he’s interested in another pop diva. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images With “Glee” already paying homage to pop stars like Lady Gaga and Madonna , it seems like a natural fit for them to complete the blond pop-star trifecta with an episode dedicated to the one and only Britney Spears next season. Last week, Spears’ manager, Adam Leber, suggested the idea via Twitter , and now show creator Ryan Murphy has admitted that he’s thinking about doing an episode entirely dedicated to the pop princess. “I’m interested in the Britney Spears idea. I’ve always loved her,” he told EW.com . “I’m entertaining it. I think young kids would like that.” In the meantime, Murphy has a slightly more controversial blonde in mind for a musical homage on the hit Fox show. “I actually ran into Courtney Love the other day and talked to he,” he said. “She’s interested. I would love to have the kids do a Courtney Love episode one day.” Not to leave the male icons out of the equation, Murphy said he’s also considering episodes dedicated to Billy Joel and Led Zeppelin. “The key is the songs in the catalog have to have a certain degree of theatricality,” he explained. The Gaga episode is set to air later this season, and Madonna has shared how much she loved the “Power of Madonna” episode that aired two weeks ago. Murphy has said the show is considering a second episode devoted to the Material Girl’s songs. “[Madonna’s] a smart cookie. I mean, that introduced her music to an entire new generation.” What Britney songs would you like to see on the show? Tell us in the comments! Related Videos It’s The Return Of ‘Glee’! Justin Bieber Concert Canceled In Australia Due To Crowd Stampede

Thousands surge stage barriers, injuring some, before police shut down Sydney appearance. By Gil Kaufman Justin Bieber in Sydney on Sunday Photo: Graham Denholm/Getty Images Justin Bieber has done it again. The Canadian teen who has caused shopping mall stampedes in New York and Paris the past, set off a dangerous crowd surge in Sydney, Australia, on Monday (April 26) when fans just couldn’t wait for his scheduled mini-set on the “Sunrise” morning show. Producers were forced to cut short his appearance to avoid further injuries to the hysterical crowd. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, thousands of Bieber fans camped out overnight at the overseas passenger terminal at Circular Quay in Sydney Harbour for Bieber’s only scheduled concert in Australia on Monday. But when the screaming teens began to surge forward in waves while waiting for him to appear, police said they broke down the crowd barrier and girls near the front were being crushed against the stage, so organizers and police canceled the show. ? “Everybody was just shoving and pushing forward. They had two massive screens out, and they started to play Justin Bieber songs and everybody started cheering and pushing forward more,” said 13-year-old Sophie Kelly , one of four Aussie teens who won a contest to meet Bieber before the aborted show. The concert’s host came out and told the crowd the show would be canceled if everyone didn’t take two steps back and stop pushing. ? “But he [the host] was acting like the whole thing was a joke, and he kept on adding Justin Bieber things in there and so people just kept on screaming and pushing forward more,” Kelly said. The problems began when word started to circulate around 2 a.m. that Bieber had arrived in Sydney, which set off a crowd surge that continued on and off for the next several hours, and some of the estimated 4,000 fans were trampled and crushed. More than 100 teens near the stage were pulled out of the crush suffering from distress, another 10 were treated by paramedics after fainting, and two were taken to a local hospital for more serious injuries. Police decided to pull the plug before any more injuries were sustained, according to the paper. ? Police broke up the event and told everyone to go home, which did not sit well with the fans, or their parents. “Clearly this total waste of our kids’ time, sleep and pocket money getting there was a deliberate publicity stunt designed to exploit fans,” one father told the paper. Hoping to calm the disappointed crowd down, Bieber performed his hit “Baby” in the “Sunrise” studio before telling fans to go home. He had been scheduled to sing three songs at the show. ? “I would love you to stay and hang, but you have got to go,” he told the throng. “The police say you’ve got to go home.” He promised to come back to Australia soon. “I am just as disappointed as everyone else with the news from this morning. I want to sing for my fans.” he tweeted later, clarifying that he did not cancel the show. “I woke up this morning to the police canceling the show for safety reasons. … I love my fans … I love it here in Australia … and I want to sing.” Bieber later thanked his Australian fans for such a warm welcome and reminded them that their safety comes first. “With everything that happened 2day I want u all 2 know I care and u all rule and if I could thank every 1 of u individually I would,” he tweeted hours after the incident. For fervent Bieber followers, the Sydney surge sounded very similar to a previous incident at mall in Long Island, New York, in November, when a concert by the singer was canceled at the final moment and hundreds of fans started a stampede after an alleged sighting of the singer. Bieber’s manager, Scott “Scooter” Braun , pleaded not guilty last month to charges of reckless endangerment and criminal nuisance stemming from the incident at Roosevelt Field Mall when a crowd of 30,000 became unruly and five were injured in a stampede.?
