Justin Bieber Beats Nick Cannon At Bowling During My World 2.0 Party

‘He’s about to take over the world,’ Cannon says of Bieber’s newfound success. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: James Devaney/ Getty Images NEW YORK — Not only can Justin Bieber celebrate the release of his sophomore album My World 2.0, but he also rose to victory against Nick Cannon at his bowling-themed release party at Lucky Strike Lanes in Manhattan. It’s made even sweeter since Cannon seemed pretty sure he was going to beat Bieber at his own game. Only minutes before he stepped inside to compete against Bieber, he spoke to MTV News about his plans to kick his butt at the game. “I’m going to! I’m about to show Justin that he has no skills,” he said. “He can’t bowl. We privately had this conversation and he said that his game is only decent. My game is ill. I’m next-level — I’m like the Tiger Woods of bowling, but without all the drama.” And while Beiber is seen bowling in his music video for his single “Baby,” Cannon had been hitting the lanes to train for his bout against Bieber. “Practicing and everything,” he shared. “Justin’s gonna get it. I got the bowling attire. I’m ready to bowl.” But as it turned out, Cannon was all talk and was taken down by Bieber and lost to him in their big match. Despite losing to him, does Cannon have a case of Bieber fever? “Kind of. I feel it coming on. That kid is definitely busy … he’s got a lot of hot stuff going on. He’s about to take over the world. We’re gonna see him live and in person [tonight].” MTV News will be rolling out previews from “The Diary of Justin Bieber” all week — don’t miss the full show, airing on MTV Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET! Justin Bieber’s ‘Biggest Fan’ Shares Her Excitement Over My World 2.0

‘It is absolutely amazing! You can tell he has grown up so much,’ Tricia Maltibag says of Bieber’s new album. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Last September, Tricia Maltibag was named the winner of Justin Bieber ‘s VMA red-carpet shout-out competition . MTV News spoke to her after her win and she expressed her excitement over being recognized by the pop star for her devotion to him. Since then he has released two albums, including My World 2.0, in stores Tuesday (March 23). Maltibag said she can’t believe how much Bieber’s popularity has grown since that fateful day last fall. “Since the VMAs Justin has gotten extremely big!” she gushed in an e-mail to MTV News. “Bieber fever has definitely spread and I couldn’t be prouder of him! I remember when the first magazines with his tiny little picture came out and I bought doubles of each. Now, his face is on ALL of them!” So, has Maltibag given up on the pop star now that everyone else in the world loves him too? Actually, it’s quite the opposite. “As for me, I’m still pretty much his biggest fan, though some might disagree — but my room looks like Bieber fever has exploded all over the walls. You should see it! My friends are pretty shocked when they come in and I still can’t stop talking about him, and a quarter of my wardrobe is Bieber attire,” she explained about her devotion to her fellow Canadian. “A bit after the VMAs me and my friend drove down to Montreal and waited in line 12 hours to meet him, but it was worth it because we were the first of, like, 1,000 people.” And she obviously loves Bieber’s new album. “And, yes, My World 2.0 is out today! I only bought, like, eight copies of his album last time but I’m aiming for the golden ticket so this time I’ll need more,” she shared. “It is absolutely amazing! You can tell he has grown up so much! “I always knew he would make it big — I just didn’t know it would be this fast. I’m so proud, but I still miss the days when he was a small-town boy who did notice girls like me,” she continued. “But I support him 110 percent and I’m so glad that his name is finally really out there, so he can finally share his talent with the world, as corny as that sounds. It’s been a while, but I still remember the day of the VMAs very clearly.” Are you as excited as Tricia is about My World 2.0 ? Let us know in the comments! Justin Bieber Fans Praise ‘Amazing’ New Album My World 2.0

‘I listen to it over and over again,’ one fan says. By Jocelyn Vena A Justin Bieber fan Photo: MTV News Justin Bieber ‘s new album My World 2.0 hits stores on Tuesday — and fans have been flocking to iTunes and their local record stores to get their hands on a copy of the album, the follow-up to last November’s My World. While fans have singled out his hit “Baby” and the Sean Kingston collabo “Eenie Meenie” as favorites, they also have praised the entire album. “Of course! I love it — I recommend it to anyone. I pre-ordered it,” Brooke Bonstead told MTV News. “Favorite off the new album: ‘Eenie Meenie’ and ‘Baby.’ Why? ‘Cause it’s just, like, an upbeat song. It makes you want to dance. It’s just a good song. Well, it came out last night at midnight [and I] put it on my iPod. I listen to it over and over again.” Fans have described the album as “amazing.” Another fan, Rachel Bower, also showed love for the latest single. ” ‘Baby’ — I like that song a lot.” Fan Cassidy Mavros and her friends pointed out that they chose “Eenie Meenie” and “I’ll Never Let You Go” as their album favorites. She added, “All the new songs, like what he’s come up with, sound really good.” About his new album, Bieber — who shared that “Up” is his favorite song on the album — has said it’s a fun record and seemed excited by his producers on the tracks, all of which he helped co-write. “It’s gonna be a lot of fun, the album,” he told MTV News . “I co-wrote everything on the album, and I got to work with a lot of cool producers. I got to work with The-Dream, I worked with … a lot of cool people, so it was a lot of fun.” MTV News will be rolling out previews from “The Diary of Justin Bieber” all week — don’t miss the full show, airing on MTV Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET! Ke$ha Clarifies Britney Spears Dis In ‘Styrofoam’

‘I do regret ever even singing that, because I have mad respect for her,’ she says. By James Dinh Ke$ha Photo: Andreas Rentz/ Getty Images On the heels of her apology to Justin Bieber for calling him “a tiny little baby” in the April issue of Maxim, Ke$ha is now taking back a few words regarding Britney Spears. In an old song called “Styrofoam” that surfaced online over the weekend, Ke$ha sings, “In 10 years/ Britney Spears/ Britney who?” But the singer, who did background vocals for Spears’ 2008 track “Lace and Leather,” explained the lyric in an interview with “So You Think You Can Dance Australia.” “Just to clarify, I didn’t write that bit,” she said. “And that was from when I was 15 — and there is a reason that song’s not on my record. So I have to admit now, I do regret ever even singing that, because I have mad respect for her. At the time, I was 15. I didn’t really have the balls to not sing it. That is why it’s not on my record. I can’t really stand behind it.” Dr. Luke, who has worked with Ke$ha and Spears, also got into the mix. In a tweet directed at Perez Hilton, the producer wrote, “Think that song was from like 4 years ago and a joke. 🙂 I don’t believe the Britney press stuff cuz I know she likes Britney.” But that probably isn’t going to change Hilton’s mind. In an interview with MTV News, the blogger expressed his extreme distaste for the “trash-talking train wreck.” “She upsets me,” he said. “I love Ke$ha’s music, but I don’t like her. I hate the stupid dollar sign in her name. I hate the stupid nose ring. I hate the stupid makeup. I hate the fact that she looks like she smells and never showers.” Ke$ha has not yet addressed a comment she reportedly made earlier this month over Spears lip-synching during her shows. “I don’t think that’s fair at all for people who are going to see the show,” she said. “I think if you are going to be a singer, you should sing. If you are going to be a dancer, you should dance.” What do you think of Ke$ha’s comments? Do you buy her apologies? Let us know in the comments! M.I.A.’s New Album Is ‘Weird’ And ‘Heavy,’ Says Diplo

Producer thinks Kala follow-up could come out in July. By Jayson Rodriguez M.I.A. Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic On Monday, blogs began noticing M.I.A. ‘s growing slate of summer festival gigs, which seemed to lend credence to earlier reports that she’d be releasing the follow-up to her Kala album in the coming months. And according producer Diplo , who worked on the album, that’s very much the case. Though it’s looking more like the record will see the light of day in July, rather than June as had been speculated. But that’s not all he told MTV News when we caught up with him last weekend in Austin at South by Southwest . “[The album] is cool. I think that she’s just wrapping up the mixing and stuff. I was in New York on Thursday, before I came here, I was mixing down the last single for it,” Dip explained. “It’s a record I did for her that’s sort of … you can’t even [explain] what it would sound like. It’s sort of like an Animal Collective/ gospel/ giant-drum record. And she’s singing on it. I think you might expect some rap/club music, but nothing on there. It’s more of a heavy record. All kinds of different sounds. We did, like, a punk thing. … It’s weird.” That assessment seems to be in line with what M.I.A. told British mag NME earlier this year, saying that her new album is “really odd” and “more musical” and features “no gimmicks.” And according to Diplo, those ambitions have made for a very interesting collection of songs. “It’s definitely more ‘vibe-y,’ I think. We’ll see if people like it,” he smiled. “My job is to kind of pull it together and make something of it.” Diplo singled out the track he had just finished mixing — a song called “Tell Me Why” — as a favorite, and said that the still-untitled album is very much an ambitious, deeply personal effort for M.I.A. ” ‘Tell Me Why,’ is great,” he said. “It’s a big, kinda giant-sounding record. … It sounds like some Wall of Sound, Motown kind of thing. It’s just me and Switch producing the album, and Blaqstarr did a couple of tracks, too. There are no surprise producers. No guest stars. It’s just her on it. She’s got a good attitude about it. She’s excited for people to hear it.” Related Artists M.I.A. Diplo

Demi Lovato Says Boyfriend Joe Jonas Doesn’t Share Her Love For Heavy Metal

‘I played it for him and he’s like, ‘Whoa that’s crazy,’ ‘ the Disney star said on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live.’ By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato appears on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Photo: ABC Joe Jonas apparently doesn’t have a high tolerance for girlfriend and fellow Disney star Demi Lovato ‘s taste in heavy metal. Lovato, appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Monday night, said she was tired after going to see a Maylene and the Sons of Disaster concert the previous night. When asked if boyfriend Joe shared her fondness for “hard-core Southern rock metal band,” Lovato said, “No, we’ve talked about it. … I played it for him and he’s like, ‘Whoa that’s crazy.’ ” While they might not agree on what kind of music to listen to (Jonas has admitted to being a big fan of indie rock band Vampire Weekend ), not surprisingly, they haven’t even broached the subject of starting a family. “You know, it’s a little early to talk about that,” Lovato told Kimmel. All joking aside, the couple will appear on “American Idol” this week, where they will sing their duet, “Make a Wave,” from the new Disneynature flick “Oceans.” (Jonas appeared on “Idol” earlier this season as a guest judge .) “Yes we’re doing a duet. I’m afraid of Simon, so I’m good [about not being judged by him while on the show]. … The song’s coming out and it’s great,” she explained. “It’s not about being in love. It’s whatever you interpret it to be.” Lovato currently stars on the Disney series “Sonny With a Chance,” but she got her big start in entertainment alongside a certain big purple dinosaur. “I was on the ‘Barney’ show for about two seasons. I don’t [keep in touch]. You realize he’s kind of a dinosaur,” she joked to Kimmel. Related Artists Demi Lovato Joe Jonas

Michael Jackson’s Doctor Allegedly Stopped CPR To Hide Evidence

Witness told police Conrad Murray interrupted CPR to collect and hide drug vials. By Eric Ditzian Dr. Conrad Murray Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images A witness present at Michael Jackson ‘s home on the day he died has made an explosive allegation about the conduct of the pop star’s doctor as he tried to revive Jackson, according to a statement obtained by The Associated Press. Dr. Conrad Murray allegedly interrupted the CPR he was performing on Jackson and delayed calling 911, so he could collect and hide drug vials. Witness Alberto Alvarez, who worked as Jackson’s logistics director, gave the account to Los Angeles police. In February, Murray pled not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter in connection with Jackson’s death, and the possibility that he attempted to conceal evidence is said to be a likely focus for prosecutors. Alvarez stated that on June 25, he received a distress call from Jackson’s personal assistant and went upstairs to Jackson’s bedroom to find the singer lying in bed and Murray administering CPR with one hand. “Alberto, Alberto, come quickly,” Murray said, according to the statement. “He had a reaction, he had a bad reaction.” Murray was then said to grab a few drug vials with robber tops and instructed Alvarez to place them in a bag. Murray also reportedly told Alvarez to remove an IV bag and place it in a second bag. Not until the vials were hidden did Murray tell Alvarez to call paramedics. Two days later, under intense questioning, Murray finally told police about the existence of the bags, in which the powerful anesthetic propofol and other sedatives were discovered. The coroner’s report has indicated that Murray gave Jackson a dose of propofol sufficient for “major surgery” and that the pop singer died of “acute propofol intoxication.” Murray’s lawyer, Ed Chernoff, said Murray did not attempt to hide any evidence. “He wasn’t putting bottles in a bag and trying to hide them,” Chernoff told the AP. “We are confident that a fair trial will ferret out the truth.” Chernoff also spoke to E! News about the statement, which was taken during one of two times Alvarez was interviewed by police. “We note that this statement was given more than two months after Michael Jackson’s death and is inconsistent with a statement he gave the police the day after Mr. Jackson was taken to the hospital,” Chernoff said. “We would ask the public to reserve judgment until after the people’s witnesses are placed under oath and subjected to the rigors of cross-examination.” Related Artists Michael Jackson

Matthew McConaughey Invites MTV News Into The Studio With Mishka

Reggae singer’s second album with the actor-turned-producer, Talk About, hit iTunes on Tuesday. By Matt Elias Photo: MTV News In late December, Matthew McConaughey and Mishka were holed up in a cozy studio in Santa Monica, California, putting the finishing touches on a new album by Mishka, the first artist signed to McConaughey’s J.K. Livin’ label. The duo offered MTV News a rare glimpse into the recording process, allowing us to document the actual session — not just a re-creation of what they did before our cameras arrived. The guys were laying down the final track of the album, “Stars Will Be Shining,” a fitting title for the journey that connected Mishka and McConaughey in the first place. In a truly “stars were aligned” kind of story, McConaughey heard Mishka’s music while vacationing in Jamaica in 1999. The actor liked Mishka’s brand of roots reggae-meets-folk rock so much that he made several attempts to contact the musician, to no avail. “I kinda had an APB out looking for anything Mishka,” McConaughey recalled. “A guy in my office said, ‘There’s a guy named Mishka that’s at the House of Blues here in Hollywood, so we’ll go see if it’s him.’ ” It turned out to be him, and the duo began their relationship — both personal and professional (McConaughey launched his music label solely to get Mishka’s music to the masses). McConaughey joked that the artist had no idea who he was until Mishka’s wife remembered seeing him on TV from time to time. McConaughey grinned: “Yeah, I’m on TV sometimes.” And with McConaughey’s help, Mishka had his time to shine on TV too — with appearances on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “The Rachael Ray Show.” He also found success with the 2009 album Above the Bones, landing at #1 on Billboard ‘s reggae chart and earning iTunes’ Best New Artist honor. That album was McConaughey’s first venture as a music producer, and he continues that role on the new LP, Talk About, due Tuesday (March 23) on iTunes and March 30 in stores. McConaughey sees a lot of similarities between his day job and producing music — something he clearly gets a kick out of. “It’s very similar to making movies. It’s very similar to telling a story,” McConaughey said. “That’s what’s really neat about it. Maybe it’s a different vocabulary, but each song’s its own story. Each song kind of has their own three-act structure. … We start with a tease, then intro everybody, take it high, climax, pull off, give it a rest and then leave them wanting a little bit more.” McConaughey admits that he’s still learning the lingo — “When in doubt, I’ll throw ‘legato’ out there every 10 minutes,” he joked — but he’s not on his own. The album is also co-produced by Butch Walker, who boasts pop/punk producing credits with Fall Out Boy, Weezer and many others. While Mishka’s mellow genre is not usually on Walker’s radar, the veteran producer said reggae is not as scientific as producing a pop record. In other words, it doesn’t take as much tinkering and editing. That was the vibe when we visited the studio that day: an easygoing group making sun-drenched music, just in time for those lazy summer days.

By Shaheem Reid The Game Photo: Moses Robinson/ WireImage The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Game said he got just about everybody he wanted for his upcoming The R.E.D. Album — he has some of the finest tracks featuring guests from all over the hip-hop hemisphere. “I feel great about this album,” he said recently after going over tracks at Dr. Dre’s house. “It’s back full-force Aftermath and I’m conjoined with Star Trak.” (Pharrell Williams is one of the LP’s executive producers.) “I got this colorful movement over here where it’s beautiful music on this side [with Star Trak] — then when I need to go dark or super grown and sexy, I got Dre over here. The combination is crazy — mixed in with a Cool & Dre track and RZA track and all the sh– I been doing. The only person I’m upset I didn’t work with on this album is DJ Premier. I feel his sh– would have been perfect for this all-star producer cast that I have. One Premier track would have did me just fine. I would have murdered that sh–. But we ain’t get it in, ’cause he was doing a whole bunch of sh– for Christina Aguilera. I’m just Game. So I gotta just wait for the next album.” The Compton MC said he lets the fans know from the start of the album that he’s not playing. “They got the intro to the album, which is titled ‘Infrared,’ ” Game said of Cool & Dre. “It’s one of them joints that Shaheem is gonna love. All the real hip-hop fans, to hear me rap, how I’m rapping on my intro, it’s gonna f— people up. Before you get to #2, you gonna already know I’m serious. I’m spitting. I go in. Everything involving me, I touched.” We’ll get a prelude to Game’s work with Cool & Dre on a song called “Shake,” as it’s one of the highlights on his upcoming Gangsta Grillz mixtape with DJ Drama, All Red Everything. Game tells a mayhem-filled story over the beat that incorporates the looped word “shake” throughout. ” ‘Shake’ is bad, man,” Game said. ” ‘Shake’ is crazy. Cool & Dre brought it in and I went through the ‘shakes.’ I told the story, cutting myself off right before the ‘shake’ came in [on the track]. I didn’t write none of that down. I went in and said the whole sh– straight through. “You know what it is about them?” he asked about Cool & Dre. “They are more like my brothers. I can go in with the any moment and make a song. Drake’s ‘Shut It Down,’ Featuring The-Dream, Hits The Web

Dream calls the Thank Me Later track ‘an incredible record.’ By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Shaheem Reid The Dream Photo: MTV News Drake’s “Over,” the lead offering from his Thank Me Later debut, has already won the support of DJs , but the Toronto MC has another track on deck, featuring The-Dream , that’s long been rumored to be his first single. An unfinished version of the song, a slow-winding number called “Shut It Down,” leaked online over the weekend. “[It’s] a great-sounding record,” The-Dream told MTV News recently. “He wrote an incredible record and allowed me to feature on this record. Beautifully written, and the guys that did the track [producers Omen and 40 made a] great track.” On “Shut It Down,” Drake and Dream take turns wooing females and professing their appreciation for their beauty. “Shut it down, down, down, down,” Drake sings. “You would shut it down, be the baddest girl around, ’round, ’round, and they know this.” The song hit the Web not long after “Over” premiered March 4 on a local radio station in Toronto and then on the singer/rapper’s blog. He recently shot a video for the track in Los Angeles with director Anthony Mandler. The-Dream said his “Shut It Down” collabo with Drake came about organically. “I don’t know how these things just, you know, they just happen,” the songwriter explained. “You get a call and you are in there doing the record, and it just happens, man. There are so many things going on right now with me, I don’t even know what’s happening tomorrow. There may be somebody waiting outside for a guest appearance.” What do you think of “Shut It Down” and “Over”? Who else would you like to see Drake work with for Thank Me Later ?
