Justin Bieber Goes ‘More Mature’ With ‘Boyfriend’ Video

Pop star brings new clip to MTV News and answers all his fans’ questions during Thursday’s ‘MTV First: Justin Bieber.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News From the back of a Shelby Mustang right to a showroom filled with classic cars, Justin Bieber premiered his highly anticipated “Boyfriend” video on Thursday (May 3) during “MTV First: Justin Bieber.” The sexy, sunny, Director X-directed clip certainly had fans in the room cheering. The video comes to life with shots of Bieber driving a muscle car, snuggling with his beautiful co-star and getting his dance on alongside his pals, all while they chill out at a rooftop party somewhere in Los Angeles. It’s a more mature look at the growing pop star, who in only a few short years has gone from strumming his guitar on the streets of his Canadian hometown to full-fledged international pop-star status, where he fills arenas all over the world. “I kind of switched it up from all the teasers,” Bieber told MTV News’ Sway Calloway about what fans saw of the video before its premiere. “I switched up the whole video on them, and really, I think it’s super cool. I wanted to do something a little bit more mature.” The video is full of swaggy images, ranging from his varsity jacket to his cool car, but what left one fan in the “MTV First” audience most intrigued were the gold sneakers he sports in the video. “I did pick out those swaggy gold shoes,” he laughed. “They spray-painted them gold. That’s what I’m going to do: I’m gonna start wearing gold shoes all the time.” With the video’s focus on cars and friends, the 18-year-old chatted about his own personal car collection. “I have a Range Rover and a Fisker. And I have a Smart Car. It just helps me get from point A to point B. I call it my little ‘swag car,’ ” he said. While Bieber made it clear that his off-time doesn’t look a lot like the party in the video, he did share what he does on the weekends: “I work. … If I’m with my friends, we like to do regular stuff,” he said, before opening up about what he does to unsuspecting pals in an elevator. “We have this game where basically we hit each other in the balls.” In addition to opening up about the video and his unusual take on riding in an elevator, he also talked about working with pals Drake, Kanye West, Usher and Taylor Swift for his brand-new album, Believe, out June 19. “Boyfriend” is the lead single from the highly anticipated release. But with the music world conquered, he also teased his forthcoming work in Hollywood. He gave an update on his in-the-works basketball movie with Mark Wahlberg , as well as his blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in “Men In Black 3.” He noted, however, “Right now I’m focused on my album and Believe. ” What did you think of the “Boyfriend” video? Justin Bieber Teases Next Believe Single

During ‘MTV First: Justin Bieber,’ pop star says ‘As Long As You Love Me’ could be the next track to hit radio. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News Justin Bieber is still riding high off the release of his new video for “Boyfriend.” But with the release of his next album, Believe, not too far off, Bieber told MTV News that fans might get the chance to hear more from the June 19 release sooner rather than later. “Why did I choose ‘Boyfriend’ [for my first single]? I just thought it was … a song that most represented me at the time and what I wanted to put out there, ” he told Sway during “MTV First: Justin Bieber” on Thursday night (May 3). “It’s crazy, because even my next single after that is going to be better.” Bieber didn’t want to give out too many details about this even better next track, but he did reveal that the title recalls the title of a certain hit by ’90s teen idols the Backstreet Boys. “My next single, I don’t have it completely set. … I think it’s ‘As Long As You Love Me.’ It’s midtempo,” Bieber said. “I think it’s edgy.” With no exact details on when fans might get to hear the song, he dished that a song he wrote for his mother, Pattie Mallette, could drop on May 13, whether or not it makes the album. “I wrote a song for my mom. But I’m going to put it out on Mother’s Day,” he said, explaining why Mama Mallette was worthy of her own track, “[It’s] about the struggles, I say in the song. She had me at like the age I am now. [It’s about] just the struggles she went through and how brave she was, and I think the world needed to know that.” What did you think of the “Boyfriend” video? Share your reviews in the comments! Jennifer Lopez or Enrique Iglesias: Who Would You Rather…

Jennifer Lopez and Enrique Iglesias are about to set off on tour together, as the artists gathered yesterday for a press conference discussing the anticipated concerts. There’s just one question: Who will open? And who will headline? “Neither Jennifer nor Enrique care who opens or closes,” J. Lo’s manager tells TMZ. “What we want to do is give the fans the best show possible and whatever that means, that’s what we will do.” But is that what Iglesias will do? He pulled out of a Britney Spears tour last year, reportedly, because he did NOT get top billing. Which leads us to ask: Which of these singers would you rather… see in concert?

Lil Boosie Murder Trial: Jury Selection Begins

Rapper is accused of first-degree murder in a 2009 shooting. By Rob Markman Lil Boosie Photo: MTV2 Seven hundred potential jurors have been summoned to a Baton Rouge, Louisiana, court and 12 will be selected to decide the fate of underground rap star Lil Boosie . The jury selection for Boosie’s murder trial began Monday (April 30), and rather than the normal 500 Baton Rouge residents who are summoned for jury duty each week, an extra 200 have been called for the high-profile case, WAFB News is reporting. Boosie (real name: Torrence Hatch) is facing a first-degree murder charge for the 2009 shooting of Terry Boyd. Prosecutors are alleging that the rapper ordered the hit on Boyd from behind bars, but through it all, Boosie has maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to all charges in June 2010. At the urging of the prosecution, the judge is allowing the MC’s lyrics to be brought up in trial claiming that specific words in his songs equal intent. The defense attorneys are, of course, refuting such claims. Though it has been widely reported, the death penalty is not on the table if the rapper is found guilty, according to WAFB. The murder trial is just another bullet point in the rapper’s list of legal troubles. In November 2011, Boosie Bad Azz pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiring to smuggle drugs into Louisiana’s Dixon Correctional Center and Angola State Penitentiary and was sentenced to eight years behind bars. During an interview from behind bars in May 2011, the Trill Entertainment rapper told XXL magazine he was being unfairly targeted by the justice system. “[I’m here] ’cause of the songs I made, before I was indicted, about the police in Baton Rouge and what’s going on here,” he said. “There’s a lot with our record label that the system don’t like. … They took my hard drive out of my house after I got arrested. I have albums for days in there. They still haven’t returned it. They’ve had it for damn near a year now. I need that music.” Lil Boosie first rose to prominence with his 2006 debut album Bad Azz and scored his biggest hit in 2008 when he was featured on Lil Webbie’s 2008 #1 Billboard rap single “Independent.” Related Artists Lil Boosie

Rihanna ‘Intimidated’ By ‘Battleship’ Role

‘I was walking into this as a complete amateur,’ singer reveals in ‘MTV First: Battleship.’ By Fallon Prinzivalli, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Rihanna Photo: MTV News As Rihanna begins her foray into the film industry, she’s quickly becoming the queen of pop culture. She’s a musical icon with millions of fans who worship her singing abilities and can’t wait to see her acting debut in Peter Berg’s “Battleship.” But her devotees aren’t the only ones itching to see what the musician has up her sleeve. During “MTV First: Battleship,” her co-star Taylor Kitsch said he was excited to see her take on the role. “Yeah, there’s an excitement behind [working with Rihanna]. I was excited to see what you were going to do with [the part],” Kitsch said to the singer. Rihanna chimed in, “I’ll answer this, because it’s probably uncomfortable for them to say no, but I was the one that was intimidated.” Wait, what? It’s hard to imagine the singer intimidated by anything. With songs like “Rockstar 101” and “Who’s That Chick?” and equally fiery music videos, Rihanna gives off a fierce persona and owns any project that comes her way. But she revealed that despite her ever-present nerves, she learned from the cast — particularly Kitsch , who offered advice as they worked on scenes. “You know, we have a mutual respect for each other’s industry,” she said. “I was walking into this as an amateur — a complete amateur. I didn’t know anything and I had a good team to learn from. I watched them, and especially Taylor, ’cause we did a lot of scenes together and he would always offer me advice.” And as for Alexander Skarsg

After checking out Demi Lovato’s show at the Nokia Theatre in September 2011, he went right across the street with Gomez to watch the flick in private. ‘NSYNC? Boyz II Men? Celebs Pick Their Top Boy Bands!

‘Jersey Shore’ star Vinny Guadagnino, Monica, ‘Glee’ actress Dianna Agron and more weigh in on MTV’s Battle of the Boy Bands. By Christina Garibaldi New Kids On The Block Photo: Michel Linssen/ Getty Images With the Battle of the Boy Bands nearing the Final Four , things are getting pretty intense among fans who are furiously voting to keep their favorite groups in the race. Along the way, we lost some of the early front-runners , including the Backstreet Boys , ‘NSYNC , New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men . Just because the Boyz were knocked out in the second round of the competition doesn’t mean they don’t have their die-hard fans out there — among them “Glee” star Dianna Agron. “When I was growing up, it was ‘NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees,” Agron told MTV News of the late-’90s boy-band explosion. “I was so obsessed with Boyz II Men in fourth grade. ‘Motownphilly’ — so good, so awesome.” The R&B group is a favorite of Monica ‘s as well. “My favorite boy band would have to be New Edition and Boyz II Men,” she told MTV News. “I don’t know if you consider these boy bands though, but they were just unbelievable.” Another popular choice was ‘NYSNC, who made a shocking first-round exit when they lost in the final moments of voting to British boy band 5ive . Justin Timberlake and company ruled the charts (and the hearts of teen girls everywhere) in the late ’90s. “I would say ‘NSYNC was my favorite boy band. They’re amazing, they were so talented,” former Danity Kane singer Aubrey O’Day said. “Obviously Justin came from that. We all know we were sweating Justin!” Posters of Timberlake most certainly lined the walls of millions of fans, including Selena Gomez, who revealed to MTV News that her first crush was the former ‘NSYNC member. Of course, picking just one boy band isn’t always easy, which was the problem for Roc Nation’s newest member, British singer Rita Ora . “My ultimate boy band, I have a few: Jackson 5, Jagged Edge — I love Jagged Edge,” Ora said. ” ‘NSYNC, they were the ones, I swear.” But when “Jersey Shore” star Vinny Guadagnino picked his ultimate boy band, he opted for keeping it in the MTV family. “I kinda liked 2ge+her ,” Vinny admitted. “I loved [‘U + Me = Us’].” Voting for the Elite Eight in MTV’s Battle of the Boy Bands runs until noon ET on Wednesday, May 2. New Kids Off The Block, Brits Advance In Battle Of The Boy Bands!

One Direction, the Wanted, Jonas Brothers move on to Elite Eight. Voting in third round begins now! By Christina Garibaldi Westlife Photo: Emma Peios/ Getty Images The British boy bands are in it to win it! MTV’s Battle of the Boy Bands advanced into the third round on Monday (April 30), with U.K. group Westlife continuing their impressive run by beating out O-Town in the Sweet 16, and England’s 5ive overtaking LFO. The two groups join English newcomers One Direction and the Wanted, as well as Big Time Rush and Mindless Behavior in the Elite Eight. New Kids on the Block had a tough matchup against the Beatles. In the end, the Boston band just couldn’t gain enough votes to get them through. But the closest match was a fight to the finish between the Jonas Brothers and Hanson. The JoBros ultimately overtook the trio in a last-minute surge of voting to continue on in the competition. So what do the Elite Eight matchups look like now? Read on for a breakdown and remember polls close at noon ET on Wednesday! Midwest Westlife vs. the Beatles : Westlife’s fanbase is no joke. Fans from around the world have been voting for these guys around the clock to ensure they make it to the finals. But the group, who are currently in rehearsals for their farewell tour, will have a tough Elite Eight matchup in the Beatles. The Fab Four barely made it by New Kids on the Block in the Sweet 16, so expect another close matchup in this round. Fun fact about these two groups: Westlife’s first seven singles debuted at the top of the U.K. charts, tying with the Beatles’ record. East 5ive vs. Jonas Brothers : 5ive have surprised many of the fans watching this competition. They took out two of the biggest boy bands of the late ’90s in the early stages of competition, ‘NSYNC and LFO, and will now face off against the Jonas Brothers. While 5ive haven’t been an active group since 2001, they fanbase is still very loyal. It might be tough, however, to get past the Jonases. The JoBros are still very much a group and are reportedly working on their next album, which may motivate fans to keep voting. This matchup will most likely be another nail-biter. West The Wanted vs. Big Time Rush : Rushers are making their presence known in this competition as they helped their group, Big Time Rush, overpower R&B chart-toppers Boyz II Men . Things should get very interesting now as BTR take on the Wanted: The Brit newcomers fought to the death in the last round, barely making it by the Monkees, so be ready for another down-to-the-wire clash for this pair of relatively new boy bands. South One Direction vs. Mindless Behavior : This should be a fight to the finish with fans of both groups casting votes like crazy. Mindless had a big win over NKOTBSB and they hope to carry that momentum into the Elite Eight. But 1D fans have also been voting furiously, giving One Direction relatively easy wins over their competition thus far. Voting for the Elite Eight in MTV’s Battle of the Boy Bands runs until noon ET on Wednesday, May 2. Winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite band made the cut, make sure you keep voting. Tune in to AMTV and MTV Hits for their boy-band video takeovers each day and make sure to spread the word on Twitter using the hashtag #BBB and like us on Facebook for updates!
