Lil Wayne And Eminem’s ‘Drop The World’: Check Out Preview!

Video premieres March 11 on MTV. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne in the “Drop the World” video Smashed TV sets, burning fires and pure chaos mark the proceedings for Lil Wayne ‘s “Drop The World’ music video featuring Eminem . An exclusive 30-second clip is available on MTV.com and the video is scheduled to premiere March 11 on MTV . Director Chris Robinson told MTV News recently that the visuals would be aggressive and feature a heavy amount of technology and in the preview, Robinson’s warning is apparent. Wayne is standing at the crossroads of an abandoned block and as he raps the song’s chorus — “I’m gonna pick the world up and drop it on your f—— head” — while an army of looters run back and forth, smashing items and making sure pandemonium ensues. Robinson described the shoot as “just energy” and raved about Eminem’s entrance. “You got two guys who are basically huge supernovas coming together, and the way that the song is constructed is great,” he said. “Because unless you see it coming, you don’t know Eminem is on the track. The first two hooks and the first two verses are all Wayne, and it’s kind of a surprise when Eminem comes through, and we matched it visually how Eminem enters the piece. From the concept and to just hearing the lyrics, with both of these amazing lyricists killing it, the whole video is just energy.” In the clip, a comet strikes the sky and seconds later Eminem appears among the debris. Wayne then joins Em as the two pose for cameras. “It hurts but I’ll never show/ ‘Cause pain you’ll never know/ If only you could see how lonely and how cold/ And frostbit I’ve become,” the Detroit MC kicks off the third verse, singing his flow. The collaboration is from Wayne’s rock-leaning effort Rebirth. Wayne had long sought out Shady to join forces with him on a record . They were both part of the all-star “Forever,” also featuring Kanye West and Drake, but fans clamored for just the two superstar lyricists to appear on a song together. However, it wasn’t until recently that Eminem was available, after working on his comeback album and battling his drug addiction. “There hasn’t really necessarily been a time for me to go to collaborate and sh– lately, because I been so locked down in the studio,” Eminem said. “But I’m open for whatever. There’s a lot of rappers in the game I respect, especially right now.” Related Videos Lil Wayne’s ‘Road To Rikers’ Related Photos Lil Wayne Heads To Rikers Island Related Artists Lil Wayne Eminem

Jack Johnson Reveals To The Sea Album Details

‘We try to get it live as much as we can,’ Johnson tells MTV News of his recording process. By James Montgomery Jack Johnson Photo: MTV News Jack Johnson ‘s last album, 2008’s Sleep Through the Static, bested the likes of Alicia Keys and Sheryl Crow to debut at #1 on the Billboard albums chart . He then surprised pretty much everyone by staying there for a second week, selling more copies than Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black (which had just won Record and Song of the Year at the Grammys) and Herbie Hancock’s River: The Joni Mitchell Sessions, which had just won Album of the Year. Oh, and then stayed at #1 again the following week too. The point is, eventually, people are going to have to stop being surprised by Johnson’s success. He is, after all, one of the most popular singer/songwriters on the planet (perhaps the most), capable of selling millions of albums, selling out stadiums around the world and staging an annual concert — the Kokua Festival — on his home island of Hawaii. Perhaps the surprise comes from the fact that Johnson is arguably the most down-to-earth musician in the business, shunning the spotlight and donating 100 percent of the proceeds from his tours to charities. Calling him a celebrity just doesn’t seem right. Still, there’s a pretty good chance that later this summer, you will begin reading the same stories about Johnson’s unlikely success, because that’s when he’ll release his new album, a deeply personal collection of songs that’s almost certain to top the Billboard charts yet again (and stay there for an extended period of time). “The album is called To the Sea. I guess it’s a reference to a father leading his son to the sea, with the water representing the subconscious. So it’s about trying to go beneath the surface and understand yourself,” Johnson told MTV News on Tuesday. “I have three kids … so the album is about that. It’s both me as a son of my own father and me looking down at my kids. I’m 34, right at this transition of still feeling like a child sometimes, but other times feeling like a father, and finding the father in myself. It’s all about those things.” Recorded in just three weeks in Johnson’s Mango Tree Studios, Sea is meant to capture the man and his band as they’re supposed to be heard: live and loose. It was mainly committed to tape in one room, with minimal use of overdubs, and an increased focus on letting the instruments bleed into one another. It is very much the sound of a band setting up in a room and just playing. “We don’t need much time. Just four guys in the band, we try to get it live as much as we can, keep as much of it with the bleeds in it,” Johnson smiled. “Three weeks is about as long as we could spend, because we tend to start overthinking things if we go longer than that. We’re a pretty small band, with pretty simple songs.” Sea is scheduled to hit stores June 1, and the first single from the record — a tune called “You and Your Heart” — will debut on radio next month. “[That song] started off with this guitar riff that I had around for a while, actually had it on the last record, and we liked it, but we didn’t have any words for it yet, nothing came natural, so I didn’t use it,” Johnson said. “And at some point, some of the books I was reading started leading me in a certain direction, kind of like this broken king character. That area you get in sometimes, where you stop trusting your heart and you start thinking too much about logic and this and that. So it’s basically about that separation that can happen between the self and the heart and trying to trust your heart again.” Other standouts include the title track (which Johnson said was written “in, like, 10 or 15 minutes”) and “At or With Me,” a buzzing, punching number recorded “in one take, one time.” And while the whole idea of working fast and loose isn’t exactly a new one, Johnson’s reason for doing so might be. After all, he was making it in Oahu. “You know, the studio doesn’t have any windows in it, and it’s kind of this closed-off space,” he said. “We went in there to work. But it’s also the kind of place you want to spend as little time as possible in. You wanna go outside. Or, at least, I did.” Related Artists Jack Johnson

Rapper J-Kwon Missing, Label Says

‘If anyone has seen J-Kwon or has access to him, please let him know,’ label says in statement. By Shaheem Reid J-Kwon Photo: Vince Bucci/Getty Images St. Louis native, J-Kwon , who made a huge splash in 2004 with the hit “Tipsy,” has been missing for almost a month, his label says. Gracie Production released a statement Tuesday night asking for help finding the MC. “J-Kwon is a big part of the Gracie family, and we are obviously increasingly worried and want to make sure he is OK,” Gracie Productions CEO/President Tony Bucher said in the statement. “We’ve already received thousands of e-mails from fans and supporters who are worried about J-Kwon, and we want everyone to know how much we appreciate the love and support. If anyone has seen J-Kwon or has access to him, please let him know we are worried about him, and to please let us know everything is ok.” Bucher and Gracie productions have also gone as far as setting up a Twitter page @WhereIsJKwon so fans can write with any info they may have. According to a rep for Gracie Productions, Kwon was working on a self titled album to be released on March 23. Last year, via the indie, the 24-year-old rapper put out the albums Hood Hop 2 and Hood Hop 2.5. J-Kwon’s biggest project was the original Hood Hop, which came out in 2004. Powered by the party anthem “Tipsy,” the then 17 year-old gained national exposure and even performed on “Saturday Night Live.” “I’m 17, so I can’t get into the club,” he explained to MTV News in 2004 about the controversial song. “I used to stand outside and see people so tipsy, so drunk, they basically did like a two-step away from the club. I took all that and was like, ‘OK, what does every teen think?’ When I say, ‘Teen drinking is very bad, but I got a fake ID though,’ people think I’m actually promoting drinking to teens. Nah. When I say, ‘Everybody in the club getting tipsy,’ I mean we ain’t drinking but everybody else is. That’s what we see, not what we do. A lot of critics come at me about this. If I was promoting teen drinking, believe me, I would’ve sold the song for an ad.” Kwon had a hard knock life to begin with. He was kicked out of the house at age 12 and became homeless. In 2003, he auditioned for LA Reid and Jermaine Dupri, who were at the Arista at the time. “When I went in for the deal I was like, ‘What if they don’t sign me? Forget them. If they don’t sign me, I’mma keep rolling.’ That’s how I approach every situation,” he told MTV News. “So I’m rapping for LA and at the end of the verse, my line was something like, ‘You don’t like it, LA, bite me,’ and I turned around and mooned him, straight up.” Hood Hop was the only J-Kwon album released under the So So Def imprint before the rapper and the label parted ways years later. Lil Wayne’s Sentencing Rescheduled For Monday

Fire at courthouse delayed Tuesday’s scheduled sentencing, which will now take place on March 8. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil wayne Photo: MTV News Lil Wayne’s sentencing has been delayed yet again. Now, the rapper will appear before a judge on Monday and turn himself in to begin his one-year prison sentence. The rapper was scheduled to appear in a Manhattan courtroom on Tuesday, but a fire at the New York Criminal Court building delayed his hearing. This is the third delay overall. The rapper was originally slated to be sentenced last month , but his attorney made a last-minute request to postpone the proceedings in order for Wayne to undergo dental surgery . The judge granted the request and rescheduled the proceedings for Tuesday of this week. But when an unexpected fire occurred Tuesday morning at the courthouse, all afternoon cases were pushed back. A spokesperson for the Office of Court Administration told MTV News Wednesday morning (March 3) that Lil Wayne’s case has be rescheduled for Monday, March 8. Wayne is expected to formally enter a guilty plea to attempted gun possession after he and prosecutors reached a deal in the case in November. He will serve a one-year prison term , and it is widely believed that he could be out in as early as eight months later, assuming good behavior. The rapper was arrested in 2007 on gun charges and was facing up to 15 years in prison if convicted. The MC star is expected to turn himself in immediately after his sentencing. In other states, Lil Wayne could have gotten off with a misdemeanor rap and probation. However, in New York , permission to carry firearms is primarily limited to law-enforcement officials and those affiliated with authorities. The Empire State’s stringent gun laws were originally enacted during former governor George Pataki’s administration. On Tuesday, with an unexpected extra night of freedom, Wayne surprised fans at Madison Square Garden when he appeared onstage with Young Jeezy during Jay-Z’s headlining show. 1633050 While Wayne’s plans for the coming days were unclear at press time, expect to see more exclusive videos from the MC right here on MTVNews.com. Rihanna Working On New Album, Producer Confirms

‘It’s about getting past any drama and just being happy to be alive,’ says Sean Garrett of track he wrote for pop star. By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna Photo: PictureGroup/ Evan Agostini After her more morose turn on her 2009 release, Rated R, Rihanna has promised that her follow-up disc will be “more energetic.” And hitmaking producer and songwriter Sean Garrett is one of the people helping to spruce up Rihanna’s edgier sound. “I got a record on Rihanna’s new album,” Garrett tells Rapup.com . “She’s got some surprises. The record I gave her was very, very positive, very big. It’s a f—ing smash.” The track, he says, is “a humongous radio record,” more in tune with her previous releases like “Umbrella” and even her latest single, “Rude Boy.” “It’s just so infectious. It’s about getting past any drama and just being happy to be alive,” he explained. “It’s an encouraging record. It feels great, and it’s got great tempo. I made sure that it was bulletproof. “It should be a single unless something crazy happens,” he continued. “It’s hot as f—. I think it’s a record that’s gonna stay on the radio for a long time.” Garrett, like some fans and critics, was surprised about the dark material on Rated R. — and not in a good way. “Whenever I think of Rihanna, it makes me happy. To be honest, I wasn’t really that excited about hearing her in a dark zone,” he said. “I love Rihanna for being that girl. … She’s like the lil’ fantasy chick — nice brown skin, beautiful woman with a Caribbean swagger that’s ridiculous.” Are you looking forward to Rihanna’s next album? Lil Wayne Joins Young Jeezy Onstage During Jay-Z’s NYC Show

Weezy, who was supposed to be sentenced to prison Tuesday, was also joined by Young Money’s Drake and Nicki Minaj. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne (file) Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Jay-Z has said that Madison Square Garden should be called “The House That Hovie Built,” but on Tuesday night (March 2), Young Jeezy was the one who startled the sold-out Blueprint 3 Tour crowd by pulling the trump card that tore the roof off. The Snowman called out Young Money artists Nicki Minaj and Drake, as well as the label’s CEO, Lil Wayne. Jeezy came out about 45 minutes into Jay-Z’s set to perform “Real as It Gets.” Hov then turned the reins over to Jeezy, who threw out a few of his street-approved rhymes, like his verse on Shawty Lo’s “Dey Know.” Jeezy told the crowd that his friend Lil Wayne was supposed to go to jail that day , but a courthouse fire delayed his sentencing on weapons charges once again. Jeezy said he wanted to bring someone out to dedicate a record to him. Nicki Minaj then came out and did her verse from “Bedrock.” After the song, Jeezy told Nicki to stay, and the beat for “I’m Goin’ In” came on. Lil Wayne then emerged from the mini-stage where Jay’s Roc Boys band was playing and jumped on the main stage with Jeezy. The concertgoers — who were already on their feet — gave the New Orleans native a phenomenal response. Wayne’s face lit up as he rapped his verse. Drake then came out, breaking the night’s all-black dress code by wearing all white instead. The crowd gave Drizzy loud approval during his verse. Young Jeezy closed the song out, and all three men yelled the chorus: “I’m goin’ in, I’m goin’ in, and I’mma go hard!” “Jeezy, you a real n—a,” Wayne said, saluting the Snowman. “We with you 100 percent,” Young told Wayne. Jeezy told the fans to make some noise for Wayne and Young Money, which they were already doing. From there, the Atlanta rapper dug into his catalog with thumpers such as “Crazy World,” “Go Crazy” and “Go Getta.” Jeezy closed out his set by bringing out another guest, Akon, for “Soul Survivor.” Related Videos Lil Wayne’s ‘Road To Rikers’ Related Photos Lil Wayne Heads To Rikers Island Related Artists Lil Wayne Jay-Z

Kanye West Posts Long Blog On Creativity, Alexander McQueen And More

‘For me the hardest thing is to ‘just’ agree and that is what sparks creativity,’ West writes. By Jem Aswad Kanye West Photo: Stefania D’Alessandro/ Getty Images Kanye West relaunched his Web site last week, and while the first day only featured his “Coldest Winter” video and an arty photo of his girlfriend Amber Rose, it’s filled out recently and on Tuesday (March 2), he posted one of his long all-caps blog entries, rendered even more difficult to read (and cut-and-paste) by his new site’s format. Titled “Creativity,” the post finds Kanye musing on his own past, deaths in his family, the recent death of designer Alexander McQueen (of whom West was a big fan) and much more. “I’m on the plane listening to [his 2004 debut LP] to The College Dropout, ” the post reads in part. “It brings back so many memories.” He then talks about the deaths in his family since that time, and the early days of his career. “We were the underdogs,” he continues. “I never feel like I’m not the underdog. I never felt completely comfortable. I’m tormented by the need to create. With the loss of McQueen I feel like we lost one of the faces of modern creativity’s Mount Rushmore. … Maybe McQueen felt his job was done because his last collection was the greatest of the decade. We are all so hurt. I know we’re selfish because he brought us so much joy and inspiration. I know how it feels when the night demons come. We can’t let them control our hands and feet. … I was blessed with the opportunity to bring my and others dreams to life. It’s like performing magic or something. It’s surreal. We bring the unrealistic to reality. … When I wake up in the morning and brush my teeth and look in the mirror it’s like I see Michael [Jackson, presumably] and my mom and Malcolm [X, presumably] … Who’s that African in the background Mom? Oh, he created the original layouts for the pyramids, but he was written out of the history books and his MTV award was given to ‘Aliens.’ … Everything is an opinion. The way you dress is an expression of your opinion. Your religious beliefs are your opinion. The music you turn up loud is your opinion. For most people it’s easier to just agree. For me the hardest thing is to ‘just’ agree and that is what sparks creativity. The feeling that something can be better, the feeling that something’s missing, the feeling that something’s needed.” What do you think of Kanye’s post and his new Web site?
