Lupe Fiasco To Preview New LP On Forthcoming Tour

Concerts will highlight material from MC’s forthcoming LP, We Are Lasers. Lupe Fiasco Photo: Johnny Nunez/WireImage Lupe Fiasco is following his participation in Kenna’s trek up Mount Kilimanjaro with a trek of his own: a he’s announced via LupeFiasco.com. [The jaunt begins in Claremont, California, and comes after the rapper’s recent performance in New Zealand, where he introduced new material from his forth-coming third LP, We Are Lasers, slated for release later this year. “This will be the first time we actually performed a lot of the new songs of off the new record, so it’s exciting,” Fiasco told New Zealand’s 3 News of his show. Though there’s no “We Are Lasers” single yet, Fiasco says the LP, the title of which he describes as representing “chaos, anarchy, rebelling against the system and individuality,” is completed and submitted to his parent label. ” Lasers [is coming] soon,” said the MC. “It’s on my label Atlantic, so they have it, it’s finished. I’m just waiting for them to give me a release date to put it out.” And since he’s threatened to quit the rap game in the past, the Chicago rapper allayed fears by saying he’s got a little bit more juice in him. “I think the ‘Lupe Fiasco’ show is almost coming to … the middle,” said the rapper. “Everything from here on out will be the grand closing.” In addition, Fiasco says he’s working on a book, that he’ll release under his given name Wasalu Muhammad Jaco. “I started as a writer. Since I was a little kid, I’ve been telling stories. Actually hip-hop has just been an extension of me telling stories, so putting it in a more traditional form as far as a book has always been a part of the plan,” he added. Of course, Fiasco will be featured on MTV’s “Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro” a 90-min documentary depicting musicians Kenna, Santigold, actors Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch and Isabel Lucas and a group of scientists and activists on their journey to the top of the highest peak in Africa as they learn about water issues and climb through snow, sleet, rain and treacherous terrain on their way to 19,340 feet. The climb is an effort to raise awareness about the global clean-water crisis and the “Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro” airs on March 14 at 9 p.m. Lupe Fiasco’s tour dates, according to his Web site:

Diddy Says He Has No ‘Master Plan’ With Rick Ross

‘If it organically grows into something, that’s cool,’ he tells MTV News of his Ross co-sign. By Shaheem Reid Diddy Photo: MTV News “Whenever Diddy calls, I know it’s ’bout a big check,” Rick Ross raps on Diddy-Dirty Money’s “Angels” remix. The Boss and Chairman Combs have been hanging tight a lot lately. They’re on the “Angels” remix together, they jumped on Waka Flocka Flame’s “O Let’s Do It” as well. Ross even posted footage of himself on a jet that was “lent out” by Diddy as he flew from Las Vegas. The ultimate Diddy co-sign had to be on the set of the “Angels” remix video, when Puff compared Rick to the Notorious B.I.G. “I guess him and Biggie locked up in a room,” Diddy said about Ross’ rhymes on the track in an online video . “My man D-Roc even said that. My man D-Roc co-signed. He said, ‘That man right here is sounding like our homie.’ That’s a mean co-sign. I don’t know what was going on in the studio, the spirits was connecting. It ain’t bootleg; it’s organic — straight Whole Foods. A lot of n—as be having preservatives in y’all sh–. This sh– is straight uncut raw. “This right here is just the beginning,” Diddy added. “Look out for us to do more things.” So what exactly are those things? We caught up with Diddy in Dallas during NBA All-Star Weekend, and he said we’ll all just have to see how everything goes. “We’ve just been doing little things together,” Diddy explained. “If it organically grows into something, that’s cool. But it’s not no master plan for something else bigger than that.” Ross and the Carol City Cartel just put out the mixtape The Timeless Audemars Piguet Collection. It’s the prequel to Ross’ upcoming Teflon Don LP. The first record from the album is “Mafia Music 2” featuring Chrisette Michele. The video was shot by Spiff TV for Maybach Films and launched on Tuesday. Related Artists Diddy

D. Woods Says Diddy Influencing Her Post-Danity Kane Career

‘He’s an incredible business mind, so I took a lot of those things for myself,’ singer says. By Jocelyn Vena D. Woods Photo: George Napolitano/ Getty Images The ladies of Danity Kane have been lying low since the drama of their highly publicized breakup . Now D. Woods, who was kicked out of Danity Kane by the group’s former boss, Diddy , is ready to return to the music industry. Woods stopped by “The Mo’Nique Show” to perform “Legalize Me” off her new album, The Gray Area, due out later this year. And she admitted that as things were getting bleak for the future of Danity Kane, she knew that she wouldn’t be in the group for much longer. “I had to suck it up and just bow out gracefully,” she explained. “You put the pieces together. You know when you’re not gonna be there much longer, so that’s kind of how [I dealt with it]. And my mother, she set a wonderful example. I’m glad I had a really great teacher, and she was very proud of how I handled myself.” If she learned anything from the whole debacle it was by watching Diddy mold Danity Kane into the chart-topping success they once were. “He’s an incredible business mind, great marketing, visionary. So I took a lot of those things for myself,” she said. “And of course I’m remixing them and now I have my own label imprint, and guess who the first artist is: me!” With a new label of her own and a new album ready to go, Woods says that making The Gray Area was the best way to vent about her experiences. ” The Gray Area is a collection of songs that I made through this transition period,” she said. “And instead of being depressed or down on myself or unproductive, I got in my studio and did what I do. That’s been my therapy. I have a lot that I haven’t even shown the world.” What do you think of D. Woods’ new song? Are you looking forward to what she does next? Tell us in the comments below! Mariah Carey Wows Crowd, Pokes Fun At Herself At L.A. Show

‘I know it’s a diva moment,’ singer jokes as she summons hair and makeup people onstage. By Ryan J. Downey Mariah Carey performs at L.A.’s Gibson Amphitheatre on Tuesday Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Early into her set, Mariah Carey smiled widely as she surveyed the packed Gibson Amphitheatre on night one of a two-night stand. “You sound very, very festive,” she told the audience. She picked up a glass from a table full of beverages. “This is water — don’t get it twisted, please. Now that’s not to say there aren’t other things on the table. This is L.A. And I have been known to have a sip or two in L.A.” Mariah Carey On Tour It was one of several moments of feisty self-effacing humor from the chatty singer. Throughout the night, her between-song banter felt light, honest and steadfastly lucid, in stark contrast to recent well-publicized bouts of public babbling . Her intimate connection with her fans was palpable from start to finish. The evening began at 9 p.m., right on schedule. “I’m usually much more late and people criticize me for that,” she pointed out later in the show. “But tonight, in Los Angeles, was I on time?” The crowd roared in the affirmative. A rousing rendition of “Shake It Off” set the tone for what felt like a celebratory evening. The band and backup singers stood toward the back of the stage on high platforms, resembling a 1950s dance-show set, which kept the focus on Carey. The crowd sang the “I will hunt you down” refrains back to her, loudly, during “Touch My Body” and kept the participation going throughout the night. Backup dancers disappeared and returned in varying configurations throughout the show. “I had forgotten about this song the whole tour and I don’t know why. Funny I should forget it considering the title,” she laughed as she introduced “Don’t Forget About Us.” She stayed dressed in a form-fitting short dress with a flared, tutu-like bottom for the first portion of the night, occasionally using a white mic stand. There were a couple of wardrobe changes into other form-fitting attire. Mariah took a gulp of champagne (and later shilled for her own upcoming brand) while lying seductively on a chaise that seemed to have been brought out expressly for that purpose before singing “Always Be My Baby.” It was the most symbolic moment of the evening, somehow embodying the many facets of her appeal in a single action: beauty, sexiness, luxury, playfulness and talent. At one point she complained about a chair being placed too far from the fans — the electric fans. “Don’t you know that my hair naturally blows just like in all of the videos? That’s real,” she joked. She asked for hair and makeup people to come onstage and touch her up, saying, “I know it’s a diva moment, but I don’t care.” But the vibe of all of the antics was coy and knowing, like a joke within a joke that all of the crowd is in on. “I went to beauty school, so I can do this, too. Five hundred hours! The teacher hated me.” A few tasteful and well-timed moments of seriousness notwithstanding — “Fly Like a Bird” was dedicated to her late bishop, “Angels Cry” to the people of Haiti — the evening rolled out with a relaxed vibe and the hits kept flowing, including “Make It Happen,” “It’s Like That” and “Up Out My Face.” A male backup singer took over for a cover of Justin Timberlake’s “Rock Your Body.” “The ‘Heartbreaker’ remix was my favorite part of the night,” a 20-year-old fan named Manny told MTV News. “I wrote it for my husband, who is not here tonight because he had business,” Carey said before “The Impossible,” the night’s only reference to Nick Cannon. “Whatever. Maybe he’ll surprise me one night.” Mary J. Blige was also absent for the text-message-drama song “It’s a Wrap,” which didn’t stop Carey from belting out the entire number herself. “Give it up for the jet skis in the video!” she shouted during “Honey.” Carey thanked Jermaine Dupri for co-writing “We Belong Together,” which she said he told her was Billboard ‘s Song of the Decade. It also holds a high honor in the heart of at least one concertgoer, Tiffany, 21. “It’s my favorite song from Mariah. It’s my favorite song, period,” she told MTV News. Carey returned for an encore, “Hero,” before unleashing the crowd into the night to fend off bootleg T-shirt vendors as they wandered Universal City Walk. A remixed version of Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, called Angels Advocate, was due in stores this month but pushed back to March . Carey mentioned during the show that it might be pushed back again. Adam Lambert Says Susan Boyle’s Album Made Him Laugh

‘I’m happy for her success, but that album is terrible,’ Lambert says of LP that outsold his own. By Jocelyn Vena Adam Lambert Photo: Mark Von Holden/ WireImage When Adam Lambert released his debut album For Your Entertainment in November, he was able to best both Rihanna and pal Lady Gaga on the albums chart. But he was still outsold by one other reality show contestant: Susan Boyle. “I know, if only it weren’t for Susan Boyle!” the “American Idol” alum joked in the March issue of the U.K.’s Gay Times magazine “I’m happy for her success, but that album is terrible. [The cover of the Rolling Stones’] ‘Wild Horses’ is the one that made me laugh the hardest. I just died when I heard it. I was crying with laughter. It was the most horrendous, sacrilegious treatment of that song!” And though his criticism of Boyle’s album sounds harsh, Lambert is more intent on silencing his own critics. “Still, when my album charted, it was validating,” he added. “I was feeling bit attacked, like I had to vindicate something. I thought: ‘Wow, look what I did.’ ” Three months after his American Music Awards performance , Lambert told the magazine that he’s still surprised by the public’s response to the show. “It catches me off guard,” he said. “In my circle, and in a lot of the underground clubs and performance spaces in Los Angeles nobody thinks twice about it, they love it. Then I gave what I thought was a harmless performance and everybody jumps down my throat about it. And I’m like, ‘Sorry, I didn’t realize it was going to be that big a deal.'” Lambert also didn’t think his glam album cover for For Your Entertainment would be so talked about. “With the soft focus, and the retouching nobody would have said a word [if it was a girl on the cover],” he said. “Here in the States, a lot of people are really uncomfortable with it, which is hilarious.” Earlier this month, Lambert told MTV News that he was excited to tour overseas, where he thinks his on- and offstage antics won’t seem so controversial. “I think the European audiences are generally a little more liberal,” he said. “I’m sure there are certain things that I do that won’t upset people as much as they do here.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Adam Lambert Related Photos MTV News’ 2009 Men Of The Year: #3 Adam Lambert MTV News’ 2009 Women Of The Year: #8 Susan Boyle Related Artists Adam Lambert Susan Boyle

Jennifer Lopez Says She’s Already Signed New Label Deal

Singer says Love? will be out this summer. By Gil Kaufman Jennifer Lopez Photo: Mike Coppola/ Getty Images That was quick. A day after her manager confirmed that she split with longtime label home Sony Music, Jennifer Lopez announced that she has already signed a new deal and will drop her long-in-the-works comeback attempt, Love?, this summer. The Evolution Of: Jennifer Lopez “I am making this statement to put an end to any confusion in regards to my next album, titled Love? ” Lopez said, according to Billboard. “I have belonged to the Sony family since the beginning of my career as a singer and together we’ve had great success. I have fulfilled my contractual responsibilities with Sony/Epic up to this point, and we have both reached friendly terms about my departure from the label. I’m also happy to say that we’ve found a new home for my album, Love?, and that it is slated for release in the summer of 2010.” Lopez did not specify what label she has signed to, but Deadline Hollywood , the blog that originally broke the story of the Sony split, reported that the singer/actress is in talks with Island Def Jam. Neither side has discussed what precipitated the split, but Deadline speculated that it might have been a response to the poor critical and commercial reception to the album’s first official single, “Louboutins,” which failed to light up the charts. The site also suggested that Lopez, who has sold nearly 12 million albums in the U.S. since her 1999 debut, could have walked voluntarily after fulfilling her Sony contract with “Louboutins” and a previously leaked single, “Fresh out the Oven.” Lopez is the musical guest and host of “Saturday Night Live” this week. By Shaheem Reid Drake and LeBron James Photo: canvascleveland.com Celebrity Favorites Drake coached a basketball team in his “Best I Ever Had” music video , and he recently had a chance to call plays with NBA legend Magic Johnson during the NBA All-Star Game festivities in Dallas. Drake and Magic’s team beat the squad coached by Alonzo Mourning and assistant coach Mario Lopez. Common, Chris Tucker and Pitbull were among the celebs who played with athletes such as Rick Fox, Chris Mullin and Terrell Owens. Magic, an NBA Hall of Famer, said working with Drake earned him cool points at home. “Drake is bringing a lot to the table, man, with a young audience,” Magic said in Dallas. “He’s from Toronto. I think he’s bringing it hard and heavy, you know? My daughter said I was cool because I was coaching with him instead of him coaching with me. All right, thank you!” Meanwhile, LeBron James is like all of us, waiting on Drizzy’s Thank Me Later debut . Put aside the fact that they both endorse Sprite or that Drake’s “Forever” was the highlight of James’ “More Than a Game” film soundtrack — #23 said the Toronto MC is just gifted. “Unbelievable recording artist,” LeBron said of Drake. “Unbelievable talent. Lady Gaga Poses Topless In Q Magazine

‘I consider myself quite the lady,’ Lady Gaga says in interview with magazine. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga on the cover of Q magazine Photo: Q/ Q4music.com Lady Gaga’s appearance on the cover of England’s Q magazine is causing quite a stir: In the photo, she is seen topless, covering her chest with nothing more than her gloved hands or mesh wiring, and in some shots sporting a bulge in her black pants that is presumably a strap-on. In the issue, which hit newsstands on Tuesday (February 23), Gaga talks all about arguably the most infamous rumor of the many that have followed her around: that she is a hermaphrodite . “We all know that one of the biggest talking points of the year was that I have a d—, so why not give them what they want?” she told the magazine . Although she may come off as an unconventional person, Gaga admits she actually is quite old-fashioned in many respects. “Well, I believe in certain institutions: cooking, serving dinner, taking care of my family,” she said in the magazine. “So I consider myself quite the lady.” In the interview, Gaga also shares how her strong-willed attitude and decision to not have a conventional pop star image have, at times, been an issue for her. “The last thing a young woman needs is another picture of a sexy pop star writhing in sand, covered in grease, touching herself. My image was an issue at my record label. I fought for months and cried at meetings,” she said. “I got criticized for being arrogant because if you’re sure of yourself as a woman they say you’re a bitch whereas if you’re a man and you’re strong-willed it’s normal.” Lady Gaga is on tour in England through next month.
