Axl Rose Turns Down Guns N’ Roses Rock Hall Induction

‘I respectfully decline my induction as a member of Guns N’ Roses to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,’ frontman posts on Facebook. By James Montgomery Axl Rose Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images Ever since Guns N’ Roses were announced as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees in December, speculation has swirled about just who from the band’s lengthy list of current (and former) members would show up at the ceremony. Well, now we know who won’t : mastermind Axl Rose, who announced Wednesday (April 11) that not only does he have no plans to attend Saturday’s induction ceremony in Cleveland, but he wants nothing to do with the Hall at all. “I won’t be attending … and I respectfully decline my induction as a member of Guns N’ Roses to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Rose wrote in a Facebook message. “I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized, nor may anyone be permitted, to accept my induction or speak on my behalf. Neither former members, label representatives nor the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should imply, whether directly, indirectly, or by omission that I am included in any purported induction of ‘Guns N’ Roses.’ ” Rose added that his reasoning behind the message was “personal” and “neither meant to offend, attack or condemn” any GN’R members who decide to attend the induction. He also hinted that, since Guns were announced as inductees, he’d worked with Hall officials to find an appropriate solution to the very real problem of who would be inducted under the name of Guns N’ Roses, hoping to avoid “a complicated or awkward situation.” But, apparently, no solution could be reached. “I feel we’ve been polite, courteous and open to an amicable solution in our efforts to work something out,” Rose wrote. “Taking into consideration the history of Guns N’ Roses, those who plan to attend, along with those the Hall — for reasons of their own — have chosen to include in ‘our’ induction … and how those involved with the Hall have handled things … [it] doesn’t appear to be somewhere I’m actually wanted or respected.” A spokesperson for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment by press time. Rose also used his open letter to (once again) put to rest any and all speculation of burying the hatchet with former members — like guitarist Slash or drummer Steven Adler, to name a few — and launching a full-scale reunion tour, writing: “Time to move on. People get divorced. Life doesn’t owe you our own personal happy ending, especially at another’s — or, in this case, several others’ — expense,” he wrote. “Maybe we can get the ‘no show, grandstanding, publicity stunt, disrespectful, he-doesn’t-dare-about-the-fans crap out of the way … no one’s taking the ball and going home. … From my perspective, in regard to both the Hall and a reunion, the ball’s never been in our court. “In closing, regardless of this decision and as hard to believe or ironic as it may seem, I’d like to sincerely thank the [Rock Hall] board for their nomination and their votes for Guns’ induction,” he added. “More importantly, I’d like to thank the fans for being there over the years, making any success we’ve had possible and for enjoying and supporting Guns N’ Roses’ music. I wish the Hall a great show, congratulations to all the other artists being inducted, and to our fans, we look forward to seeing you on tour!” What do you think of Axl’s note? Miley Cyrus’ ‘LOL’ Trailer: 5 Key Scenes

Remake of 2008 French film finds Cyrus seeking revenge on a cheating ex-boyfriend. By Fallon Prinzivalli Miley Cyrus in “LOL” Photo: Lionsgate It’s been a long time coming for Miley Cyrus’ remake of the 2008 French film “LOL.” Since the announcement back in 2010 that the film is being distributed by Lionsgate , news on the movie has been lacking. Well, not anymore, Cyrus fans. On Tuesday, the official trailer for the film dropped, which gives fans a preview of what the movie has in store. In a generation that spends more time updating the world about their problems than their families, 17-year-old Lola’s (Cyrus) status is constantly changing. As an attempt to get back at her — now ex — boyfriend Chad for cheating on her with Ashley ( Ashley Greene ), Lola starts seeing his best friend, Kyle ( Douglas Booth ). Her life begins to spiral downward as her grades drop while she experiments with drugs and sex, and a divorce has her mom completely oblivious to it all. Soon she starts to fall for Kyle and things get even more complicated. The trailer is a great peek at the teen drama, and we have the five key scenes from it. EX -Boyfriend The trailer begins with Lola’s voice over: “Every year it’s weird going back to school, but here we are just going with the flow, trying to love and laugh out loud.” She abruptly stops laughing when she calls out Chad on not texting her throughout the summer and he admits he hooked up with Lola’s rival Ashley. She acts like she doesn’t care, but as soon as she enters her room she begins crying on her bed. This emotional scene that sets up the rest of the trailer. A New Beginning Lola quickly gets over her failed romance as she begins hanging out with Chad’s best friend Kyle. A montage begins of their new friendship as they share a lollipop, rock out on an air guitar and come this close to kissing by his car. Everything is even more wonderful when he tells her, “You’re amazing.” We imagine audiences will quickly become fans of Booth. “I can’t believe I ever dated you!” But the puppy love comes to a halt when Lola begins her sexual awakening. It seems rumors begin circulating when Chad says to Lola in the school courtyard, “Now that you’re giving it up I figured maybe I could get some.” The next scene shows Lola lashing out and pushing him into a gate screaming, “I can’t believe I ever dated you!” The trailer isn’t clear on what exactly causes the outburst, but we’re betting it’s pretty bad judging by Lola’s reaction. Trouble In Paradise? As it turns out, Chad’s comment is just the beginning of situations that spiral out of Lola’s control. The next few scenes show a fight with her mom about her grades dropping and a drunken make-out session with Kyle. Her life gets even worse as she witnesses Kyle walking with his arm around Ashley. When she confronts him about it, he denies it and she spits out, “You’re disgusting.” But we already knew Greene’s character would cause a stir when Demi Moore told MTV News “she’s really saucy.” “Status can change, but true love remains the same.” Throughout the next montage of scenes, we see “status can change, but true love remains the same” typed out across the screen as Kyle dedicates a song to Lola and she makes up with her mom. Finally, as a smiling Kyle rests his head on an equally happy Lola, the trailer leaves us with the feeling that despite the craziness of high school, everything will work out for Lola in the end. After all, she did say she just goes with the flow and high school is only the beginning. Are you planning on seeing “LOL” in theaters? Leave your comment below! ‘The Voice’ Results: Pip And Jamar Rogers Sail Through

But Team Adam’s Kim Yarbrough and Karla Davis and Team Cee Lo’s Tony Vincent and Erin Martin aren’t so lucky. By James Dinh Adam Levine Photo: NBC Another batch of four aspiring superstars, this time from Team Adam and Team Cee Lo, were eliminated on Tuesday night (April 10) during the second week of live shows on “The Voice.” It was only 24 hours earlier that 12 contestants from the two teams battled it out before America and the judges to score a spot in the competition’s quarterfinals, which begin next week. Host Carson Daly was quick to announce (in random order) the three hopefuls from each team who scored the most votes, leaving the remaining group of contestants to battle it out in an effort to nab a “save” from their mentor. Free from the chopping block on Team Adam included Mathai, Tony Lucca and Pip. It was the trio of K’s (Katrina Parker, Kim Yarbrough and Karla Davis) who were left to duke it out against for Adam’s save. With new tunes and desire to win, Yarbrough continued to prove her belting strengths on Jennifer Hudson’s “Spotlight,” while Karla Davis opted to slow it down with Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Ultimately, it wasn’t too difficult to guess who Adam saved when Christina, Blake and Cee Lo all opted for Katrina and her rendition of No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak.” “Rather than have it be a long, drawn-out thing. I’m not gonna be emotional about this decision,” the Maroon 5 frontman said. “Katrina, you’re the winner.” Up next was the announcement from Daly that Juliet Simms, Jamar Rogers and James Massone had all received the most votes from the viewers at home, landing Tony Vincent, Cheesa and Erin Martin at the bottom of the totem pole and up for elimination. Before you knew it, the sing-off was under way once again. Vincent brought mystique to his performance of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” but viewers saw Cheesa earn immediate praise for her cover of Celine Dion’s “All By Myself” with an immediate nod of approval from Cee Lo after the number. Erin Martin’s rendition of Ellie Goulding’s “Your Song” was acceptable, but not enough to overthrow the panel’s unanimous love of Cheesa. Before all the eliminations even went down, “The Voice” welcomed Jessie J early into the broadcast, where the British belter brought fans in the audience to their feet with her hit “Domino,” with the help of Team Christina. Madonna’s MDNA On Track For Biggest Second-Week Sales Drop Ever

Album is on pace to suffer an 88 percent drop in week two on Billboard charts. By Gil Kaufman Madonna Photo: PictureGroup/ Evan Agostini It appears that Madonna fans gave the singer all their luvin’ two weeks ago, and had little to spare during the most recent Billboard album sales reporting period. Though final figures will not be available until Wednesday morning, on Tuesday (April 10), Forbes reported that the “Girl Gone Wild” singer was on pace to put up the biggest second-week sales drop in chart history. Reporter Roger Friedman wrote that he was told that after debuting at #1 on sales of 359,000 copies in its first week, MDNA is on pace to tumble 88 percent to around 46,000 copies for the week ending Sunday. The piece even calls into question whether Madonna truly topped the charts in the first place, noting that “most” of the first-week sales were for albums included in the sale of tickets to the star’s upcoming tour. “That promotion artificially inflated Madonna’s numbers, putting her first before Lionel Richie and his Tuskegee album,” Friedman claimed. “I do think that all the people involved in the Madonna ticket-CD deal should apologize to Richie for denying him his rightful place at number 1,” he wrote. Madonna has done some high-profile promotion of the album, including playing the Super Bowl halftime show , a pop-in at the recent Ultra Music Festival in Miami, a Facebook interview and Twitter Q&A , but the combination of lukewarm reviews and two singles that failed to gain traction may have done the album in. If the numbers hold, Madonna’s drop will outpace one of her biggest acolytes, Lady Gaga , who suffered an 84 percent dip in week two for Born This Way. (That album’s sales were goosed by a discount 99-cent sale in its first week.) Then again, Gaga moved more than 1.1 million copies in her bow. Related Artists Madonna

Justin Bieber Will Show Off His ‘New And Fresh’ Side In ‘Boyfriend’ Video

‘Boyfriend’ clip is going to ‘make people like the song more,’ singer tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kelly Marino Justin Bieber’s Boyfriend Photo: Walmart/ Island Justin Bieber is gradually giving fans a taste of his forthcoming video for “Boyfriend.” In the latest tease for the clip, which he tweeted out , several more shots are revealed. They include a watery, booming speaker, Bieber whispering in a pretty girl’s ear and the singer standing in silhouette, snapping his fingers in front of the moon. “I think people are going to be really happy [with the video] and … I think it’s going to make people like the song more,” Bieber told MTV News on the set of the video, directed by Colin Tilley. “The album, in general, is just really new and fresh and I think people are going to be really happy to hear it.” The song certainly represents a more mature sound for the 18-year-old, who has abandoned the doo-wop-influenced pop of his past for a Justin Timberlake vibe . But if fans think Believe will sound like “Boyfriend,” Bieber explains that this track offers only a sampling of the album’s overall sound. “I think it’s part of it,” he said. “I mean, my whole album is so different and every song’s different on the album, and I think that what’s special about it is nothing sounds the same.” After Bieber teased that he’d be hitting the studio with his mentor Usher , the two tweeted a bit more about working together. “Ohh … and trust we got a duet coming for ‘LOOKING 4 MYSELF’ and ‘BELIEVE,’ ” Usher tweeted about working with the teen star on both of their forthcoming albums. “He has come a long way. Proud to see his evolution as an artist!” Believe will drop later this year, with the “Boyfriend” video dropping sometime soon. Looking for Myself, Usher’s next album, will be released in June. Jack White Would Make A White Stripes Record ‘Right Now’

In a New York Times Magazine profile, White hints that the dynamic between him and Meg White ultimately led to the band’s demise. By James Montgomery Jack White Photo: WireImage Jack White gets deep in a New York Times Magazine feature, discussing his marriage, his children and his relationship with former wife/ White Stripes drummer Meg White (he also talks about being taught how to weld by Bob Dylan, though perhaps that’s a story for another day). For the first time since announcing the end of the Stripes last year, White talked about the dynamic that ultimately led to the band’s demise, intimating that it was Meg who didn’t want to continue making music, and that he was forced to bring the project to a close “so we can move on with our lives.” “Some people can live their whole lives in limbo,” White said. “There came a point where I said, ‘If we’re not doing this, we need to put an end to it right now.’ And that’s what she wanted to do.” When asked by writer Josh Eells why Meg no longer felt like being a part of the White Stripes, Jack responded: “You’d have to ask her. I don’t know what her reasons are. Having a conversation with Meg, you don’t really get any answers. I’m lucky that girl ever got onstage, so I’ll take what I can get. “Meg completely controlled the White Stripes,” White continued. “She’s the most stubborn person I’ve ever met, and you don’t even get to know the reasons.” Meg White declined to be interviewed for the Times piece, though Jack seemed to backtrack on claims he made to British magazine NME last month, when he said there was “absolutely no chance” he’d ever re-form the Stripes, admitting that he misses making music with Meg. “I’d make a White Stripes record right now. I’d be in the White Stripes for the rest of my life,” he said. “That band is the most challenging, important, fulfilling thing ever to happen to me. I wish it was still here. It’s something I really, really miss.” In the meantime, he’s moving on. White’s first solo album, Blunderbuss, is set to hit stores on April 24. Amanda Bynes’ DUI Arrest: More Details Emerge

Actress’ dad tells People his daughter wasn’t drunk, while TMZ reports that Bynes returned to the bar after her arrest. By Kara Warner Amanda Bynes Photo: Handout/ Getty Images Amanda Bynes was arrested in Los Angeles last Friday on a misdemeanor driving under the influence charge after reportedly getting into a minor accident with a Los Angeles Police Department officer. The “Easy A” and “She’s the Man” actress has not yet released a statement on the incident, but Bynes’ father recently told People magazine that his daughter was not intoxicated at the time of her arrest. “She was not drunk,” Rick Bynes told the mag. “I was told that she blew a zero on the Breathalyzer. She didn’t have a single drink that night. My daughter doesn’t drink.” Poppa Bynes went on to say that the police officer who arrested his daughter was at fault because he pulled out in front of her as she was turning. He blamed the actress’ seemingly intoxicated behavior on her being “upset and very emotional” in getting arrested. According to TMZ , Bynes’ emotional state wasn’t so compromised that she couldn’t resume partying that same night. The site claims the actress and a few of her friends attempted to return to the bar at the Standard Hotel in Hollywood just hours after her arrest but were denied re-entrance by hotel staff. Bynes was given a citation and released from police custody on $5,000 bail. She will have to report to court when a hearing date is set. A few months before the release of “Easy A” in 2010, Bynes declared on Twitter that she didn’t enjoy performing anymore and planned to retire from acting. Her retirement lasted all of 35 days, as she tweeted in late July of 2010 that she was “unretired.” Amanda’s dad cited his daughter’s break from acting as the reason the tabloids go after her. “She is a good girl,” Rick Bynes told People. “She just chooses not to work, and because of that, people go after her.”

Bassnectar Calls Lupe Fiasco ‘Wicked’ On Vava Voom

With ninth album out Tuesday, Bassnectar tells MTV News he tries ‘to make all music thicker and heavier.’ By Akshay Bhansali Bassnectar Photo: Shaun Hollingsworth, Bassnectar With beginnings in death metal, Bassnectar (born Lorin Ashton) is so much more than that today, though metal is still clearly a large part of who he is. Besides catching his long air thrashing during his epic live shows, one need only listen to a couple of tracks on his latest album, Vava Voom — “Pennywise Tribute” and the album’s closer, “Chronological Outtakes” — to know his metal flag still flies high. Over nine albums, in a career that spans longer than a decade, fans have come to adore Bassnectar’s exceptionally diverse sonic palate. Of course, there has been one constant over the years: His desire to make every release heavier than the last. When MTV News caught up with Bassnectar in Miami recently, he shared, “Musically, I really focus on playing and making what I love, and I don’t let myself get bogged down with, ‘Is this the newest? Is this the freshest? Is this the most popular sound?’ “What I don’t want to do is impose rules on myself,” he continued. “I don’t like to think of myself as having one particular style. I just like to make all music thicker and heavier, whether it’s rock music or metal or punk or classical, downtempo, dubstep, whatever it is. I just like to take heaviness and apply it to forms of music.” On Vava Voom, out Tuesday, Bassnectar has continued his legacy of sonic exploration. “Ugly” and “Ping Pong” are bass whoppers. “Empathy” is sheer cinema, reminiscent of a lost “Tron Legacy” cut. “Do It Like This,” featuring his frequent collaborator friend ill.Gates, is almost an indescribably sumptuous mix of rock, hip-hop, glitches and wobbles. The album also features Amp Live, Jantsen, Mimi Page and Tina Malia. And then there’s the title track, featuring bars by rapper Lupe Fiasco. “That was one of the most interesting collaborations that I’ve had recently, partly because of the friendship I was able to make with him,” Bassnectar revealed. “Voom” is a Southern bass track with a pitched-down hook, similar to chopped and screwed with a scaling melody reminiscent of ’80s Atari games and early Neptunes production, before breaking into a dubstep-flavored ending. And Fiasco adds primo bars. “He’s a really creative person, and he rhymes fully improvisationally,” Bassnectar revealed. “So, he makes one sentence, and then you play back that sentence, and he comes up with another one. There’s two sentences, and then he says the third sentence. And then, basically, this crazy poem unfolds. It was wicked.” Bassnectar sold over 200,000 tickets on his U.S. tour last year, and with Vava Voom out Tuesday, he’s back on his tour grind through July, with demand for his live stage show greater than it’s ever been. “Last year, when we sold out Red Rocks, which is a 10,000 person venue, it happened a couple of weeks in advance. And I was speechless,” he shared. “This year, it sold out in one day. And after selling out in one day, we added a second show that’s going to sell out as well, so it’s just a stunning time.” Related Artists Lupe Fiasco Bassnectar

Justin Bieber’s ‘Born To Be Somebody’ Backs New ‘Bully’ Ad

‘My fans are always up for supporting a great cause,’ Bieber says in a statement about his support of the documentary. By Kara Warner Justin Bieber Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images On the heels of the very successful release of his new single “Boyfriend,” teen phenom Justin Bieber is lending his star power and the song “Born to Be Somebody” to a very worthy cause: the TV ad campaign for “Bully.” The Weinstein Company announced Monday (April 9) that the Bieber-backed TV spot, which debuted on Fandango , will begin airing all over the U.S. ahead of the film’s PG-13 release this Friday. “My fans are always up for supporting a great cause. It’s one of the things I’m most proud of as an entertainer,” Bieber said in statement of his decision to be involved with the documentary. “I hope they see ‘Bully’ with their friends and help start the conversation so we can end bullying.” The highly publicized documentary, which depicts the often-disastrous results of school bullying, originally received an R rating by the MPAA, which inspired 17-year-old Katy Butler to start a viral petition that received over 500,000 signatures , including Bieber, Ellen DeGeneres, Johnny Depp and Demi Lovato. MTV’s own Vinny Guadagino from “The Jersey Shore” also got involved via the anti-bullying campaign the Bully Project tied into the promotion of the film. The campaign is a partnership between GLAAD and the Weinstein Company designed to spread awareness about bullying and to give people opportunities to add their name in support.
