Nicki Minaj’s ‘Beez In The Trap’ Video Is A Thank-You To Strippers

Brand-new clip is a throwback to MC’s pre-Young Money days when she was performing for her ‘most die-hard fans’ at strip clubs. By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj in her video for “Beez In The Trap” Photo: UMG Who says you can’t go back? Nicki Minaj surely doesn’t, as her brand-new, eye-popping “Beez in the Trap” video is a throwback to the MC’s pre-Young Money days. “When I was doing my mixtapes, I would perform in strip clubs, I would perform in clubs and it was just like some of my most die-hard fans would be in these places,” Nicki told MTV News on Friday after putting on a secret show in Times Square . “I wanted to kinda like honor them — kinda honor all my girls in the club and just say thank you for the support.” The Benny Boom-directed clip, which was released Friday, follows Nicki as she struts through the nudie bar counting hundreds and working her money-maker in some very flattering outfits. In one scene, Ms. Minaj sports a leopard-print catsuit and shakes her tail feather alongside “Beez in the Trap” guest 2 Chainz . “When I see the strippers and all of that, they always show me love, so I wanted to kinda make a video around them,” the reigning rap queen said. “I hit up Benny Boom like, ‘Yo, I need a sexy video right now.’ I knew 2 Chainz wasn’t gonna be mad.” “Beez” is the second video from Nicki’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. The album, which is expected to hit #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart later this week, features an even distribution of pop tracks like the RedOne-produced “Starships” and more street-oriented material. The 2 Chainz-assisted track definitely falls in the latter category. “He’s an amazing dude, very hard worker,” Nicki said of the bubbling Atlanta MC. “I love my ‘Beez in the Trap’ video. This is my hood video, obviously.” What do you think of Nicki Minaj’s “Beez in the Trap” video? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Nicki Minaj

Stalley Relives Savage Journey To Maybach On New Tape

‘I still want so much more, and there’s so much more to get,’ he tells Mixtape Daily of Savage Journey to the American Dream. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Ade Mangum Stalley Photo: Getty Images Main Pick Headliners : Stalley Representing : Massillon, Ohio Mixtape : Savage Journey to the American Dream Real Spit : The road to the riches is no doubt a bumpy one, but now that Massillon, Ohio, MC Stalley is riding with the Maybach Music Group, his trip should be a bit smoother — or so you’d think. On March 30, the bearded Maybach spitter dropped Savage Journey to the American Dream. “I named it Savage Journey to the American Dream because that’s just what I’ve been through,” Stalley told Mixtape Daily. “I’ve been searching for that American dream, and I’ve been on a savage hunt for it for the past year.” Stalley first began making a name for himself in 2009 when he dropped MadStalley: The Autobiography, a mixtape he released with Mickey Factz’s GFC camp, on which he rhymed over classic Madlib productions. It was a subtle yet effective shot that would help Stalley make a name for himself in quite a few influential rap circles. After linking with Damon Dash’s DD172 outfit and recording alongside guys like Mos Def and Curren$y, the Ohio native found his lane and released Lincoln Way Nights in 2011. It was his most notable release and helped him get noticed by Rick Ross . “One of my goals was to be a signed artist, and now I’m with MMG and Warner Bros.,” he said. “I thought that things would calm down and I would kinda be satisfied with that, but I still want so much more and there’s so much more to get.” On Savage Journey, Stalley navigates through the pitfalls that await young rappers. “Lane to lane switchin’, keep these lames and dames at distance/ Eight-cylinder pistons, it’s money talkin’, listen/ And it’s tellin’ me go get it, and I’ve been on my way,” he spits on the moody “Route 21.” Curren$y shows up on the car-themed “Hammers & Vogues,” and on “Lover’s Lane,” Stalley makes a pit stop after getting sidetracked by some overzealous females. Stalley gets props, holding down most of the mixtape by himself, but he of course gets help from his MMG family. Rozay and Meek Mill show up for the Block Beattaz-produced “BCGMMG,” and Wale lends a helping hand on “Home to You.” Whether Stalley will ultimately see his dream fulfilled remains to be seen, but with his underground rep already solidified, there’s nowhere to go but up. The Wanted’s ‘Glad You Came’ Tops Pop Songs Chart

British group are first boy band to see a debut track hit #1 on Billboard ‘s chart since Hanson in the ’90s. By Jocelyn Vena The Wanted Photo: MTV News If you’re one of those people who thinks the era of boy bands has come and gone — think again. After One Direction topped the Billboard charts with their debut album, Up All Night, the Wanted are also now chart-toppers. Their British group’s cheeky, innuendo-filled single “Glad You Came,” is currently the #1 song on the Billboard Pop Songs chart. The last time a boy band’s debut track took the top spot on that chart was back in 1997 when Hanson’s ubiquitous “Mmmbop” sat at #1 for eight weeks. In fact, it’s been about a decade since any boy band managed hit that high on the Pop Songs chart. (O-Town nabbed the spot back in 2001 with “All or Nothing.”) The Wanted are set to drop their debut U.S. album on April 24. Island Def Jam president and COO Steve Bartels commented on the popularity of the song, which has sold 1.5 million copies and placed at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Judging from the explosive reception to [the song] at radio and online, the appeal of that sound is as solid as ever, no matter how you describe it, a boy band or simply a male pop vocal group, which is what the Wanted is,” he said. “We have seen proof of this over the past several weeks with sales and when the ‘Glee’ cast covered the song [on its February 21 episode]. No matter what name you give the Wanted’s style, people of all ages have connected with the group. That connection is priceless.” The guys are certainly not resting on their laurels. They opened up to MTV News last week about shooting the video for their new single, “Chasing the Sun.” “We saw a lot of treatments and a lot of them took it literally: somewhere chasing the sun,” Jay McGuiness told us. “But we decided we weren’t into that. We worked with a director called Director X, so we know it’s going to be a good party. But we’ll leave the details until we release it.” The guys also shared that they’re hoping to get a rapper on a remix of the track. But the only clues they would give us was that the MC loves cats and it’s not Cee Lo Green, who frequently chills with his cat Purrfect on “The Voice.” What do you think of the Wanted? Toms Shoes Founder Wants You To Ditch Your Shoes

Blake Mycoskie hopes to raise awareness about global poverty on Tuesday with One Day Without Shoes. By Uptin Saiidi A group marches on behalf of TOMS Shoes to raise awareness for global poverty Photo: Tom’s Shoes The guy responsible for putting thousands of pairs of shoes on needy children is now asking for a different kind of favor: Take off your shoes. On Tuesday, One Day Without Shoes encourages people to walk barefoot to raise awareness of global poverty. Whether you go barefoot for as little as 10 minutes, during your lunch break, or make it a full-day affair, Toms Shoes creator Blake Mycoskie hopes to generate buzz that will help attract aid for children in need of shoes around the world. MTV News recently caught up with Mycoskie to learn more about the campaign, which is in its fifth year. “Taking your shoes off for that one day will help create a lot of awareness, not only for what we are doing at Toms, but for what you might want to do or what someone else is doing to help in global poverty. It’s an easy way to get involved, and it’s my favorite day of the year, and it’s free!” More than 250,000 people around the world went barefoot last year in support of One Day Without Shoes. Since the company was first founded in 2006, it’s had major success with its one-for-one model, where it donates a pair of shoes to children in need for every pair purchased. The classic style of the shoe was first inspired by shoes worn by Argentine farmers for centuries, which Mycoskie observed during his travels as a contestant on “The Amazing Race.” As of last September, the company has donated more than 1 million pairs, but the success did not happen overnight. “The first year that we started Toms was this amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience, because we didn’t know what we were doing and we were traveling around the world, we were begging people to buy our shoes, we were figuring out how to give them away, we had no money and were literally just in that survival mode,” Mycoskie recalled. “A couple of years ago … we were able to move into an office and have a little more of a sustainable business and see the business grow and the media accept us and the retailers, and that was really awesome.” In 2011, the company launched Toms eyewear, using a similar model of one-for-one to help children receive either medical care, prescription glasses or sight-saving surgery. As for the future of Toms Shoes, Blake has another shoe company in mind that he’d love to follow in its path. “I think that the dream is for Toms to follow in the Converse path. They have become a classic global fashion item that no matter what age you are or what country you live in, you have a pair of Chuck Taylors.” For Tuesday, though, regardless of the kinds of shoes you own, Mycoskie is hoping you leave them at home. Will you participate in One Day Without Shoes? Let us know in the comments!

Far East Movement Promise ‘Booty Popping’ On LMFAO Tour

Sorry for Party Rocking Tour kicks off May 22 and also features Quest Crew, Sidney Samson, Eva Simons and Natalia Kills. By Jocelyn Vena Far East Movement Photo: MTV News Far East Movement clearly aren’t preparing any apologies for their upcoming Sorry for Party Rocking Tour with LMFAO. When MTV News caught up with the fellas of FEM recently, they shared what the motto is for the 26-date trek, which will also feature the Quest Crew, Sidney Samson, Eva Simons and Natalia Kills. “It’s gonna be a whole lot of bass and a whole lot of showers,” J-Splif explained. “Bring your raincoats.” “There’s going to be a little bit of wiggling going on,” Kev Nish added. “There’s gonna be shuffling, booty popping, a lot of movement. That’s what both crews like to do. Big shout-out to [LMFAO’s] RedFoo and the Party Rock Crew and [our label] Cherry Tree, really, for putting this all together.” The tour will kick off in Columbus, Ohio, on May 22 before partying all around the country, including stops in Seattle, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Miami. The tour will wrap up on July 4 in Toronto. And, given the two groups’ long, rambunctious history with each other, it should come as no surprise that their focus will be on having fun. “We’ve been friends with LMFAO since, like, the diaper days,” Nish continued. “We was all partying in diapers, chilling in the crib. But, yeah, we’re grateful to them, all the love they’ve shown us. RedFoo actually co-directed/executive produced the video for ‘Live My Life,’ and we took the energy of the tour that we’ve already been on and put that on camera.” May 22 also happens to be the day Far East Movement drop their new album, Dirty Bass, which features Justin Bieber on the lead single, “Live My Life,” and Tokio Hotel’s Bill Kaulitz on “If I Die Tomorrow.” Are you planning on seeing Far East Movement and LMFAO live? Daughtry Sued By Former Bandmates Over Royalties

Former Absent Element members claim Daughtry owes them royalties over four songs they wrote together. By Gil Kaufman Chris Daughtry Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ Getty Images Chris Daughtry is headed to court in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he will face off against three of his former bandmates in a royalties dispute. Ryan Andrews, Scott Crawford and Mark Perry, who were in the band Absent Element with Daughtry before the chrome-domed rocker went on to national fame on “American Idol” in 2006, filed suit against the singer in Guilford County Superior Court on Thursday, according to The Charlotte Observer . The men claim that Daughtry defrauded them out of royalties for four songs that they say feature music and lyrics they wrote together. The lawsuit accuses Daughtry of, “constructive fraud, breaches of fiduciary duty, unfair trade practices, and other deceptive and wrongful conduct.” In the lawsuit, the three men claim, “All four members wrote music and lyrics for Absent Element’s songs, collaborated on the arrangement and recording of those songs, regularly consulted with each other on matters relating to the business of the band, and made partnership decisions based on majority votes.” The “Home” singer, who placed fourth on season five of “Idol” and has gone on to a platinum-selling career as the leader of the hard rock group bearing his last name, responded to the suit with a posting on the . “I am very hurt by these false accusations,” he wrote. “The songs listed in this lawsuit were written solely by me and no one else and at this time, I have no further comment.” Related Artists Daughtry

One Direction Fueled By ‘Adrenaline Rush’ On ‘SNL’

Boy band opens up to MTV News about their debut appearance on the NBC sketch comedy show. By Jocelyn Vena One Direction Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — One Direction knocked a major milestone off their bucket list on Saturday night when the guys took the famed stage of “Saturday Night Live” to perform. It was the first time anything resembling a boy band played the show since Valentine’s Day 2009 when the Jonas Brothers were the show’s musical guests. For a band whose chart-topping album is called Up All Night, it wasn’t difficult for the guys to spend the night wooing fans and non-One Directioners alike with their tracks “One Thing” and “What Makes You Beautiful.” The appearance proves that the guys have truly been embraced by the American public. MTV News was on set with the guys days before their episode aired and got a sneak peek at what the fivesome would be up to come show night. In addition to crooning their way into sleepless Americans’ hearts, they also got to shimmy their way through a talk-show-themed skit with host and “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara. They played the actress’ five kids, who learn that their father is sleeping with her incarcerated mother, whom she just met for the first time. “I think a lot of it is gonna be a big adrenaline rush,” group member Harry Styles told us during rehearsals. “The show’s so big over here. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun and I think we’re gonna have as much fun with it as we can.” Niall Horan noted that the guys loved appearing on the show because they really do enjoy goofing around. “This is our kind of show,” Horan told us on set, in between rehearsals and photo shoots. “You know, we like to have a bit of a laugh. This is our perfect kind of show [and] we get involved as much as we can.” What did you think of One Direction’s appearance on “Saturday Night Live”? Tell us in the comments! ‘Dark Shadows’ Score A Far Cry From Slapstick Trailer

Is Tim Burton’s vampire flick darker than the campy trailer had us believe? By John Mitchell Johnny Depp in “Dark Shadows” Photo: Warner Bros So we’ve been talking a lot about that gonzo first trailer for “Dark Shadows.” It’s got its defenders and its detractors and that’s all pretty well documented , so we’re not going to spill any more ink on it. But now Warner Bros. has muddied the waters a bit by releasing Danny Elfman’s full score for the film — and it’s definitely not the score to a slapstick comedy. First things first, the trailer unquestionably makes “Dark Shadows” seem like a farce. We’ve argued that’s not necessarily a bad thing — sometimes a radical overhaul is what it takes to reinvent something old for modern audiences (see: “Charlie’s Angels,” “Mission Impossible”) — but the tone set in the trailer is a complete departure from what everyone expected, while Elfman’s score, which can be heard in its entirety on WB’s Watertower Music , seems perfect for the film that fans of the TV show thought they were getting. Strange, right? Elfan’s score is rich, deep and dark. It is heavy on strings, ambient sounds and atmosphere. The drama factor is high and there’s little evidence of slapstick. Tracks like “Killing Dr. Hoffman,” “Deadly Handshake” and “Barnabas Collins Comes Home” have an almost menacing and methodic feel, and “Dumping the Body” and “Widow’s Hill” are rife with shadowy action. The music for the film is kind of amazing, actually. (Should Danny Elfman begin readying for his fifth Oscar nomination?) But what is most exceptional about it is how little it fits the film Burton had us expecting. There’s been some indication from sources close to the film that the comedic elements were dialed up for the trailer. After its initial arrival and ensuing fan backlash, co-star Chlo

Kanye West’s ‘Mercy’ Looks G.O.O.D. On 2 Chainz’s Resume

Kanye, Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz unite on new G.O.O.D. Music single. By Rob Markman Hit-Boy Photo: MTV News Two new Kanye West songs in just two days — now that’s what we call a G.O.O.D. week. A day after dropping “Theraflu,” the Louis Vuitton Don dropped a second single, this time with his G.O.O.D. Music cohorts on Thursday night. “Mercy” not only features rhymes from Yeezy, but Big Sean , Pusha T and 2 Chainz as well. The track, which premiered on Chicago’s WGCI, was released on iTunes at midnight in conjunction with the religious holiday Good Friday. Big Sean and Pusha T set things off, while Yeezy and 2 Chainz bring up the rear lyrically. For 2 Chainz, who recently signed to Def Jam Records, being featured on such a high-profile track has further validated his success of late. “I’m excited about it,” 2 Chainz said on Thursday during a Def Jam-orchestrated press conference call. Though he isn’t signed to West, 2 Chainz said he’s done so much work with Yeezy that he forgot what his “Mercy” verse sounded like. “I’ve done a lot of work with ‘Ye for, like, a year now, and it was one of those songs where I called him and I told him, ‘Man, play my verse over the phone because I don’t remember,’ ” he said. “That’s a good look to add to the r
