Justin Bieber’s ‘Boyfriend’ Poised For Big Debut

The lead single off Believe could sell 400,000 downloads in its first week. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: WireImage He’s beloved by millions of teenage girls who already think of him as their “Boyfriend,” and now Justin Bieber ‘s edgier track seems poised to be one of the teen star’s biggest hits yet. According to Billboard, the song, which dropped Monday, could sell upwards of 400,000 downloads in its first week, giving it a big push on next week’s Billboard Hot 100 chart. This would give the singer his best sales week for a song to date in his career. His biggest thus far belongs to “Never Say Never,” which moved 199,000 downloads in its first week, eventually peaking at #5 on the Digital Songs chart. Based on the estimates for his Hot 100 debut (which takes into account radio airplay, sales and streaming data), Bieber could land in the top five going into next week. So far, his most ubiquitous track, “Baby,” is also his highest debut on the Hot 100, having landed at #5 in 2010. It seems that radio is also embracing the lead Believe single . While Bieber has always had a large fanbase and solid record sales, radio airplay has eluded him a bit. But Billboard further reports that this song could land him in a solid place on the Pop Songs top 10 based on early airplay. So far, he’s only managed to land at #14 in 2009 with “One Time” and #16 with “Baby.” “Boyfriend” was co-produced and co-written by Mike Posner, who explained to MTV News that they always intended to make a song that would shift Bieber’s career from tween heartthrob to legitimate pop star. “I think our goal was to make something that me and my friends could listen to in the car,” Posner explained. “I think we’ve all known Justin since he was 13, and that’s not the kid I was in the studio with anymore. He’s an 18-year-old. He skateboards with Lil Wayne and hangs out with Lil Twist. Those are his homies. And he listens to hip-hop and he’s a really cool kid. He’s not like a corny guy.” Related Videos Happy Birthday, Justin Bieber! Related Photos Justin Bieber’s Birthday: Celebrating 18! Related Artists Justin Bieber

Pitbull Would Love To ‘Follow In Will Smith’s Footsteps’

‘He’s the blueprint of what any artist in the music business would look up to,’ Pit tells MTV News on the set of ‘Men in Black III’ music video. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf Pitbull Photo: MTV News He wants it all, chico. Pitbull is a proven hitmaker, so it’s no wonder that he was tapped to record “Back in Time,” the first single from the upcoming “Men in Black III.” Who knows? Maybe the union will lead to a future Hollywood collaboration. Not only is Pit a fan of the “Men in the Black” franchise; he’s a big fan of star Will Smith as well. “I think he’s the blueprint of what any artist in the music business would look up to and idolize what he’s done,” Pit told MTV News on Monday night from the L.A. set of his “Back in Time” video. “As far as not only in the music business, but also in Hollywood, how he’s gone from not only one of the best artists musically [to] also one of the best actors, I would say, around the world.” It was Big Willie himself who recorded the theme songs for the first two installments of the “MIB” trilogy (1997’s “Men in Black” and 2002’s “Black Suits Comin’ “). Now, Pit takes the reins and looked to a sample of Mickey and Sylvia’s 1950s classic “Love Is Strange” for inspiration. According to the Miami rap artist, the song falls right in line with the upcoming film’s time-traveling plotline. Pitbull is looking forward to the day he and Smith can collaborate again. “I think in every way, shape and form, we’d love to follow in Will Smith’s footsteps,” he said. “We’re working on the music for the movie, and hopefully, one day, we’ll work in a movie together.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Men in Black III.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Justin Bieber Will Change ‘The Landscape’ With Believe

Producer Mike Posner says Bieber’s next album will make pop artists ‘go back to the drawing board.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kara Warner Justin Bieber Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images This week, Justin Bieber dropped his single “Boyfriend,” marking his first step toward making more mature-sounding pop tunes. Co-producer Mike Posner told MTV News that Bieber’s upcoming Believe album displays how far he’s come since the sugary sweet ditties of his My World days. “I think our goal was to make something that me and my friends could listen to in the car,” Posner explained. “I think we’ve all known Justin since he was13, and that’s not the kid I was in the studio with anymore. He’s an 18-year-old. He skateboards with Lil Wayne and hangs out with Lil Twist. Those are his homies. And he listens to hip-hop and he’s a really cool kid. He’s not like a corny guy. “So I wanted to make something that reflected who he is now and who he is going to continue to be,” he continued. “We’re still working more on the project and it sounds really incredible. I think people have been waiting [for] when he’s going to turn that corner, and the time is now.” But Believe isn’t going to change just Bieber’s career, but all of pop music, Posner added. “He’s kind of bringing soul back, and rhythm and blues back and definitely hip-hop into his music. I’m really excited to see how it’s going to change the landscape, and I know a lot of artists are going to have to go back to the drawing board.” “Boyfriend” is the lead single off Believe, which will drop later this year. A video is currently in the works, but no release date has been announced. Do you like Justin Bieber’s new sound on “Boyfriend”? Leave your comment below! Maroon 5 To Collaborate With Wiz Khalifa On Overexposed

Band tells Rolling Stone album due out in June will be ‘our most ‘pop’ record ever.’ By Elizabeth Lancaster Maroon 5 Photo: Daniel Boczarski/Getty Images Maroon 5 is making moves like Jagger in 2012 with the announcement of their fourth record, due out June 26. Lead singer Adam Levine told Rolling Stone fans should expect Overexposed to be “one of our most diverse and poppiest albums yet.” With an ever-evolving sound, Maroon 5 is sure to impress with the new 10-track record. Already announced is “Payphone,” a surprising (but promising) track featuring Wiz Khalifa that hints that this album will be heavy on collaborations. From working with Rihanna to Christina Aguilera, the group has plenty of experience experimenting with different sounds and genres. But “Payphone” seems like it could become the group’s most distinct collaborative work yet. 2010’s Hands All Over was the first time the group had worked with an outside writer, and they liked it enough to try it again this time around. The group’s guitarist, James Valentine, told Rolling Stone, “At this point in our career I think it was a good thing to completely mix up our process and it yielded good results, as well as a more collaborative spirit within the band. We wanted to make something that sounded contemporary with the elements of a lot of early eras of pop music. This is our most ‘pop’ record ever and we weren’t shy about really going for it.” With nine Grammy nominations and three wins behind them, it will be exciting to see what they’re like they’re not being shy. Demi Lovato Sets ‘Give Your Heart A Break’ Video Release

‘This is a song about faith,’ Lovato says of Unbroken song, for which video premieres next week. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: MTV News Demi Lovato fans won’t have to wait too much longer to see the singer’s video for her latest single, “Give Your Heart a Break.” The video for Lovato’s second Unbroken single will premiere April 2 on E! News. In several teased shots from the clip, a bare-faced Demi looks out from behind a curtain and flirts with her love interest. In another shot, said shirtless love interest returns her tender glances, also from behind a curtain. “The new music video, I’m basically trying to convince a guy that I didn’t break his heart, and we get into a fight and I try to win him over again,” she told MTV News . “So I do something special for him at the end of the song.” The video certainly seems like it’s going to be sexy, and Lovato commented on having to get romantic with someone she barely knows on set. “It’s kind of funny. It’s part of the job though. You just try to get through it, but it is kind of awkward at first when you have to act like a couple with someone that you don’t know,” she said. “He was really sweet, really sweet and really cute.” Recently, Demi opened up a bit more about the track in a video she posted on Twitter . “19-years-old … sometimes it feels like during that brief time that I’ve been alive that I’ve lived through more emotions than people twice my age,” she said. “I think that’s the reason I sing about love so often in the music I make.” She explained that despite the play on the word “heartbreak” in the title, the song is about the exact opposite. “Last year I began working on a song about a different kind of love,” she said. “It’s a song about showing someone you love that you’re the one right in front of them. This is a song about faith.” Related Videos ‘Demi Lovato: Stay Strong’ — The After Show ‘Demi Lovato: Stay Strong’ Related Photos ‘Demi Lovato: Stay Strong’ After Show Demi Lovato Style Evolution Related Artists Demi Lovato

Madonna Makes Peace With Deadmau5 Over Ultra ‘Molly’ Comments

‘I don’t support drug use and I never have,’ Madonna Tweeted. By Gil Kaufman Madonna Photo: Getty Images A day after Madonna to task for seemingly making a drug reference during a surprise appearance at the Ultra Music Festival,
the singer buried the hatchet with the EDM superstar during a surprise Twitter summit. Deadmau5 went in hard on Madonna after she blew away partygoers over the weekend while introducing EDM icon Avicii, asking them, “How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?” That incensed Mau5, who slammed
Madonna for seemingly making a thinly veiled reference to the illegal drug MDMA (ecstasy), which is also alluded to in the title of her new album, MDNA .
Though she isn’t known for having an active Twitter presence, Madonna signed on Monday to chat with her fans under the handle, @MadonnaMDNAday. Deadmau5 was among those who joined the conversation, and the 31-year-old party starter followed up his epic 800-word Tumblr rant by telling Madonna, “You’re a role model to 100’s of millions. You have a powerful voice, EDM could use your positive influence, not ‘molly’ talk.” Madonna, 53, Tweeted a 1989 image of herself wearing Minnie Mouse ears with a new thought bubble that read, “From one mouse to another. I don’t support drug use and I never have. I was referring to the song called ‘Have You Seen Molly’ written by my friend Cedric Gervais who I almost worked with on my last album …” Deadmau5 seemingly accepted her apology, responding, “Fair enough, I was just voicing my concerns as I usually do. +1 respect for clearing it up personally … regardless, just be a little more aware of what you should represent at EDM events, and I’ll watch my mouth.” That was good enough for Madonna, too, who replied, “Communication is always best. You should have called me first, we could have cleared it up ‘privately.’ 😉 See you on the road.” And that was that. Deadmau5 was pleased with the response, telling his nearly one million followers, “Well there you have it kids. I’ve said what I needed to say, which ill still stand by, and so did she. life goes on. No more talk of that.” Related Artists Madonna

Katy Perry Reissue Is Teenage Dream ‘With A Face-Lift’

Perry closes the Dream chapter with Complete Confection. By James Montgomery Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection Photo: Jive More than 20 months after Katy Perry released her smash Teenage Dream album — and became one of the biggest pop stars on the planet — she’s releasing it again, this time as a fully stocked Complete Confection, which ties up all the loose ends and, in a sense, brings this rather amazing chapter of her career to a close. While stars reissuing their biggest albums is certainly nothing new, Perry’s approach to the Confection certainly is: She makes no bones about the fact that this one is for both her die-hard fans and those still (somehow) contemplating joining her flock. “This isn’t a ‘reloaded’ album, it’s not an album with eight songs that are new … it’s not my third record. It’s my second record, with a face-lift,” she laughed. “I don’t want it to feel contrived or manipulated. … I had the idea to do a reissue, like that one last ‘wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am.’ Like, ‘Here’s Teenage Dream, if you’re on the edge of being a fan.’ … It’s for that last push of, like, ‘Jump in with me. Why not? You’ve already bought five songs, so you might as well complete your album!’ … But really, why I did it was because I know my fans always want more, so it’s for the die-hard fan to have a nice, complete package.” And to that end, Complete Confection is packed with all the hits and remixes, not to mention a trio of unheard tracks, two of which are Dream holdovers and one brand-new song (“Wide Awake”) she wrote and recorded in just two days as an added treat for her fans. It’s also a setup for the next phase in her career, the upcoming “Part of Me” concert film . As Perry has proved time and time again, there’s a true purpose behind everything she does these days. “There were two songs that I had from Teenage Dream that I couldn’t put on [the album] — ‘Part of Me’ and ‘Dressin’ Up’ — and then I knew we were doing this re-release, so I was like, ‘I’ve got to get into the studio, because I can’t wait eight months to be able to put out this feeling that I’m feeling right now,’ ” she explained. “Because God knows it would take me another eight months to do another record. I couldn’t do it on the fly; it just takes time to set up a record! “So … I had two days to write, and I wrote it with my regular crew — Dr. Luke and Max Martin and Bonnie McKee — and then I had two days to record, and it was literally like, I submitted the lyrics before I submitted the music, because it was like by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin that I put that song on the record,” she continued. “But I have a film that’s coming out in the summer, a concert documentary, behind-the-scenes, real in your face, and… not only did I write the song because I needed to flush that out of my system, but I wrote it for the film as well.” Will you pick up Katy’s Complete Confection ? Madonna Fans Weigh In On MDNA

One fan says her latest album ‘proves once again that Madonna is still the Queen of Pop,’ while others prefer her previous works. By Kara Klenk Madonna Photo: Getty Images Over the past couple of months, fans have devoured any and all clips, stills and teases available during the lead-up to the Queen of Pop’s latest creation, and now, Madonna worshipers can finally get their hands on MDNA in its entirety. And seeing as it’s already the #1 album on iTunes, it seems that Madonna has done it again. Most seem generally pleased with Madge’s latest effort, deeming it “pop perfection.” For anyone who thinks that Madonna’s in danger abdicating her throne, @MDNABornQUEEN assured the Twittersphere that, ” MDNA proves once again that Madonna is still the Queen of Pop.” In terms of her competition, @zahidkatycat maintained that the album is “better than Lady Gaga’s Born This Way!” MDNA seems to be further proof that the 53-year-old mother of four has no plans to slow down, and fans have taken note. @LydiaT2 called her “ageless and an absolute DIVA.” Some fans say MDNA is her best album yet. ‏@fermares tweeted that it’s “somewhere in between the genius of Ray of Light and the innovation of Confessions. ” @robnmozangeles raved about the album and especially liked “the way she used multiple producer[s] to create a cohesive narrative of sound & emotion. Still the Queen!” Check out a track-by-track review of MDNA Others were supportive of the album but weren’t sure it was her best work. @MDNAMonster tweeted, “It’s amazing! But compared to her previous albums ( Hard Candy excluded) it’s kinda weak” and @iamjimmey wrote, “I love MDNA ! But I think she can do better!” Many fans truly believe Madonna is offering up something new and different with this album, but they all have their favorite, and least favorite, tracks. @tim__fitzgerald called “I’m Addicted” and “Gang Bang” his favorites, while @clau_dinha08 wrote, “I really love Girl Gone Wild right now, because that’s such a good beat!” @kakadre had trouble pinpointing one because “it’s all perfect” but listed “Gang Bang” and “Love Spent” as two tracks that stand out. @GimmeNick commented, “Her most vulnerable album, so innovative and the ultimate definition of art, every track is a 10/10- only low point is ‘B-Day Song’.” While MDNA has been plagued by leaks for months now, one fan, @whoneedsit, put it best by tweeting, “If you’re a true #MDNAFAN you get your ass out and buy it.” What do you think of MDNA ?
