A school affiliated with Bishop Eddie Long’s Lithonia megachurch — New Birth Christian Academy — is shutting down. Parents received letters just two days before Christmas, telling them the school would close on January 4th. New Birth Christian Academy, which enrolls students in kindergarten through the 12th grade, has been struggling financially for years. A financial deficit and declining enrollment left its board of directors with no other option but to temporarily close the school. Art Franklin, a spokesman for New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, is keen to stress the school’s closure is not linked to the sexual allegations against Bishop Eddie Long, which culminated in the pastor taking a sabbatical to “tend to family business” after his wife Vanessa filed for divorce. The letter also stated the staff at New Birth will help students and parents find a new school. The academy, founded by Bishop Eddie Long and located within the church, is closing after 18 years, forcing parents of more than 200 students to scramble to find new schools by next week. After allegedly getting into a fight over a piece of candy which resulted in the killing of Brick Squad rapper Slim Dunkin earlier this month, rapper Young Vito (real name Vinson Hardimon) has been arrested after turning himself into the police. He is being held at the Fulton County jail on murder and gun possession charges pending a bond hearing. Vito showed up to Atlanta Police headquarters looking quite different. He cut off his dreadlocks and was clean shaven, and had nothing to say when he went into custody. Police say they believe a fight over candy led to the murder of Brick Squad rapper Slim Dunkin over the weekend. Slim Dunkin (real name Mario Hamilton) was shot and killed at a recording studio on Memorial Drive on Friday night. Police said Slim got into an argument with another man over a piece of candy prior to the fatal shooting. Despite there being 15-30 people in the recording studio at the time of the murder, so far, no witnesses have come forward. Slim Dunkin was headed to the recording studio to appear in the “Push Ups” video for Gucci Mane and V-Nasty, a track he rapped on that appears on the duo’s street LP, “BAYTL.” Slim Dunkin has also recorded with his best friend, Waka Flocka Flame , Roscoe Dash and others.
