Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People of 2012 special aired last night, and the #1 most fascinating of the electic mix of individuals was revealed at last: David Petraeus! The special highlighted the achievements and antics of those that kept us enthralled for the past 12 months, from Ben Affleck to Gabby Douglas to Honey Boo Boo . But it was Petraeus, the decorated U.S. military hero now disgraced by an affair that forced his resignation as director of the CIA, who took the top prize. “He is, without question, one of the finest officers and minds of his generation,” said Walters. “Then shockingly, he resigned as head of the CIA because he’d had an extramarital affair with Paula Broadwell, his biographer. … The story was irresistible.” “The keeper of the nation’s secrets, unable to conceal his own.” Yes … the story of a man attracted to a younger woman who was taken with him is so unique. Paula Broadwell , of course, was revealed as Petraeus mistress after apparently emailing Jill Kelley, another woman he knew socially, and telling her to step off. Petraeus has been married to his wife, Holly, for 37 years. On the entertainment side, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane received a spot, along with British boy band One Direction and 50 Shades of Grey author E L James. Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger cracked at joke at the 12-12-12 Concert For Sandy Relief last night in New York that didn’t sit well with some fans. Rolling Stones 12-12-12 Concert “This has got to be the largest collection of old English musicians ever assembled in Madison Square Garden,” he said of the star-studded benefit show. “But I’ve got to say, if it rains in London, you’ve got to come and help us, OK?” Fans expressed varying degrees of shock, as victims of Hurricane Sandy in the tri-state area are still reeling from the $70 billion in damages caused by the storm. It’s hard to believe Jagger was actually belittling the event, or the storm. More likely, he was just making light of the fact that a bunch of old British guys (The Stones, The Who, Paul McCartney , Roger Waters ) were brought in to raise money for NYC. Sean Lowe is set to debut as The Bachelor in less than a month, and he promises emotion, surprises and drama – just no second thoughts about Emily Maynard. Of course, we already know how his season supposedly ends – see The Bachelor spoilers for the long and short of it – but that’s neither here nor there. In a chat with the media today, Sean Lowe discussed the “mystery contestant” in the premiere, to Emily Maynard, cat-fighting, early favorites and more. Excerpts from his wide-ranging interview below: On early favorites this season : “There was definitely one girl in the first episode that catches my eye, and she does receive the very first rose.” “You’ll see that that first feeling and those initial sparks, they’re going to play out over several episodes, and it’s going to be an interesting relationship.” On drama among the women : “There’s going to be drama and a little cattiness. It’s almost inevitable for it to happen, but it always irritated me.” “When girls got caught up in the drama and lost focus on the reason we were all there … I just wanted them to focus on the relationship we had.” “It’s tricky, because you hear women say certain things about certain women, and I would think to myself, ‘Well, I haven’t seen that, so I’m gonna make my own judgment.'” “But then I would hear multiple women talk about that same woman, and then you start to think, Well, maybe there is something there and you have to investigate.” On the choices by the producers : “The producers did an excellent job, they truly did. I told them I wanted girls who were well suited for me.” “I got to know [the producers] really well while I was on The Bachelorette and they got a good sense of who I am, but I was blown away by the amount of wonderful women.” “I had no idea I would become so attached and emotionally invested in multiple women.” “I’d heard about that happening on past seasons from people who’d done the show, but I thought that would be so hard. But it can happen, and it did happen.” On the mystery contestant : “I think America will be surprised to see who it is. I know I was certainly shocked when she stepped out of the limo on the first night.” “I’m glad she did come the first night. I probably would’ve done the same thing [Ben Flajnik] did, so I wouldn’t infuriate the other women that had been there several weeks.” On being on The Bachelorette : “My feelings for Emily were very real, and most of the people who watched the show could definitely recognize that.” “I wouldn’t have accepted The Bachelor unless my heart was definitely mended. Steve Czaban and Andy Pollin, ESPN radio hosts based in Washington, D.C., have been suspended for derogatory comments made in a rant about transgender basketball player Gabrielle Ludwig. Ludwig plays basketball for Mission College and was born Robert Ludwig, a fact Czaban and Pollin couldn’t get enough of. “How does this work? You lose testicles and gain eligibility?” one host asks in the following video. Steve Czaban and Andy Pollin Rant About Transgender Player With Czaban and Pollin constantly referring to Ludwig as “it,” they continued: “This whole gender-bending thing, you know, whatever you’ve got to do to scratch that inner itch and quell those inner demons, that’s fine, but don’t go playing sports then. And don’t go playing sports saying, ‘but I’ve go the rights of everyone else.’ “Yeah, you’ve got the rights to live as a human being with everybody respecting you, but athletics is different.” Said ESPN in a statement, announcing the suspension: “We strongly believe two of our employees crossed the line when discussing a transsexual person on their program last Thursday. Such intolerance and insensitivity will never be tolerated by this company. Breaking, shocking news, readers : Miley Cyrus has been spotted in actual clothing! We know this is difficult to believe, based on the attire Miley donned in Paris and in Rio last week. But it’s true, and we can prove it: Meanwhile, in other news, it appears as though reports of a split between Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were premature. These two were spotted in California yesterday, holding hands and looking as happy as ever. We may criticize Miley (often), but we wish her nothing but the best in her personal life. Perhaps she and Liam will soon get married, have children and settle down away from the spotlight. Far, far, far away from the spotlight. A gossip site can dream, can’t it?
