Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil set the bail for Miata Phelan, 24, of the 6800 block of South Talman Avenue, who is charged with first-degree murder. The visibly pregnant Phelan, who appeared in court today wearing pink sweat pants with black stripes, a pink top, and black leather jacket, allegedly plunged a knife into Larry Martin’s left flank on April 30, prosecutors said. Martin, 28, is the father of her unborn child and they lived together. How did it all pop off? Well… Before the stabbing happened, Phelan, Martin, Martin’s 8-year-old son and 25-year-old cousin, a man, went shopping at a shopping mall. On the way home, Phelan accused Martin of being selfish because he bought things for his cousin and son but not for her, Asst. State’s Attorney Glen Runk said. Court records show Phelan turned 24 on May 1. Runk said Phelan struck Martin while he was driving, almost causing an accident, and after Phelan drove to Martin’s mother’s home to drop off shoes for Martin’s brother, she kicked and scratched Martin before driving away in his car, leaving Martin, his 8-year-old and Martin’s cousin outside. The three walked to the couple’s nearby apartment and when Phelan arrived about the same time, she and Martin began arguing again and she locked the three outside, Runk said. Martin banged on the door until she opened it and once inside, Phelan stabbed Martin in his side with a knife, Runk said. According to witeness report, Phelan said: “This is what you get for messing with me,’’ Runk said, quoting Phelan. “I hope you die, mother f—–,” Naturally, this type of thing will spark outrage toward the the murderous soon-to-be-mom, but she just threw away her life for nothing. Asst. Public Defender Lisa Brean said Phelan is a life-long resident of Chicago, who is eight classes away from receiving a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Columbia College in Chicago. Brean said she is pregnant with the victim’s child and surrendered herself to police. Judge Criticized For Sending Transgender Girls To Adult Women’s Prison Via NYDailyNews An unusual decision to put a transgender girl at a Connecticut women’s prison is sparking a heated debate over how to handle a teenager called dangerous by the state but portrayed as vulnerable by her attorney. A judge sent the 16-year-old girl, identified as Jane Doe in court papers, to York Correctional Institution this month at the request of the Department of Children and Families. Authorities say state law allows judges to transfer custody of juvenile delinquents from the DCF to the Correction Department when they are deemed dangerous and cannot otherwise be safely held. Aaron Romano, the girl’s attorney, said putting her in an adult prison violated her rights and federal law; he wants her placed with a foster family and receiving treatment. He said she’s been kept in a cell 22 to 23 hours per day in a wing for mentally ill inmates. “There are prisoners who are screaming and banging and yelling all hours of the day, all hours of the night,” Romano said. “That is not the way that the constitution says that we treat our juvenile delinquent.” The case marks the first time a transgender juvenile has been transferred to the Connecticut Department of Correction, according to Romano and a Correction spokesman. It’s the second time in Connecticut that a judge has granted DCF permission to transfer custody to the Correction Department, Romano said. The girl was born male but identifies as female and has undergone hormone treatment, her attorney said. Sounds like a clusterf**k. DCF Commissioner Joette Katz said that although the law suggests that anatomy determines the placement, DCF worked intensively with prison officials to have her placed at the women’s prison. “I asked the Juvenile Court to transfer the youth to the adult system with great reluctance and sadness,” Katz wrote in an op-ed in The Hartford Courant. “It was the only acceptable option to ensure the safety of other youths for whom I am responsible. She has repeatedly, and over an extended period, assaulted girls and female staff members.” The latest physical assault left a staffer with a concussion, eye injury, bites and bruises, Katz said. The girl said in a statement released by her attorney that a prison guard watches her take a shower or use the bathroom. She said she’s been moved away from where women were constantly screaming and crying. “I keep telling myself that this is just a nightmare but it doesn’t end,” she wrote. “I know that I need to work on my issues and I want to work on my issues but this is not the place for that to happen. I am afraid of the women here and I don’t want to be around them. They yell comments to me and make fun of me when they see me.” She needs quit her b****hin’, grab her sack, and show those criminal beyotches who’s boss if she was so big and bad in the juvenile detention center. This is sad. Elderly Couple Found Dead In Murder-Suicide It’s always so unfortunate that these couples couldn’t work out whatever issues they had without things turning violent. According to Boston Globe: A relative arrived at the yellow home on Dunbar Road to check on the elderly couple who live there early Tuesday and found them dead in an apparent murder-suicide, authorities said. Elizabeth A. Coyne, 81, and her husband, Donald P. Coyne, 83, suffered injuries “consistent with gunshot wounds,” Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey’s office said in a statement. A .25 caliber Walther pistol that authorities said they believe Donald Coyne owned was found at his side when they were discovered about 7:12 a.m. David Traub, Morrissey’s spokesman, declined to say how many times either person was shot or where. Man Facese $5,000 Fine For Peeing In Co-Worker’s Coffee A trifling Virgina man will now be responsible for coughing up $5,000 as a consequence to his disgusting decision to urinate in his co-worker’s coffee pot. via Gawker If you were thinking of pissing in a co-workers drink, here’s something that should give you pause: A man who admitted spiking his colleague’s coffee with urine was ordered to pay $5,001 in damages. And that fine was in addition to the year-long prison sentence he’d already received. According to the Daily Progress, on March 16, 2009, James Carroll Butler used an empty soda can to scoop urine from a toilet into his co-worker Michael Utz’s personal coffee pot at the water treatment plant in Culpepper, Va. He returned the pot to the coffee maker “hoping [his co-worker Michael] Utz was the person who would get the urine-tainted coffee.” Sure enough, Utz tried to brew coffee but stopped when “he was hit with a strong smell of urine, observing fluid already inside his coffee pot that he had not put in there.” Utz told his supervisor, who suggested testing the liquid at a lab. The results came back positive for urine and feces. Butler confessed to the crime the next day. “I done something I am very much ashamed of to a co-worker for [reasons, which are] stress-related [and] things going on in my life on and off the job. I am very much ashamed of my stupid and childlike behavior,” Butler wrote in a letter. Court documents obtained by the Daily Progress show that $5,000 will go towards punitive damages and $1 will go towards compensatory damages. While well short of the $728,000 he was seeking, Utz is “really, really happy about the victory and he’s glad it’s done,” according to his attorney. SMH!! Shutterstock
