Getty Images Man Gets 12 Years In Prison For Biting Off Part Of His Ex’s Lip A 23-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for biting off a part of his ex-girlfriend’s lip. Seth Aaron Fleury from South Carolina pleaded guilty on Thursday to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. He is going to serve at least 85% of the 12 year sentence before he becomes eligible for parole, according to a release from state solicitor W. Walter Wilkins. The incident happened when Fleury met up with his former girlfriend Kayla Hayes on October 21, 2017, to discuss the status of their relationship. Fleury got angry when Hayes was clear that she didn’t want to continue dating him. When he tried to lean in for a kiss, Hayes pulled away, which is when Fleury chomped down on her bottom lip with so much force that part of her lip was amputated. Following the incident, he left the scene, according to the release. Hayes underwent an unsuccessful procedure in an attempt to have her lip reattached, and now has permanent, serious, scarring and a limited range of motion in her mouth as a result. Fleury’s attorney said that he intentionally bit Hayes, according to a Facebook post that she wrote. “I had to listen to his attorney say that when he attacked me, it was intentional. Saying that he claimed ‘he was going to leave his mark for me next boyfriend,’” Hayes wrote. She also recalled the attack — which took place almost a year ago. “This was the day that a piece of me died…Sitting in a puddle of my own blood with the majority of my lip laying on my leg, my whole mouth on fire, confused and terrified, I didn’t know how I could ever show my face again. At that point, honestly wishing that those very seconds would just be my last- I wanted to give up for good.” She continued, saying she struggled with the fact of her new reality post surgery: “What I just woke up from was no joke. Never a day in my life will I ever wake up living my ‘normal’ life again,” she said. Wilkins hopes that her attacker’s sentence sends a serious message about domestic violence. “This case demonstrates the unique circumstances under which domestic violence occurs, and how quickly these situations can escalate into violence,” he said. “Hopefully this prison sentence will make it clear to both this defendant and other abusers that domestic violence in any fashion will not be tolerated.”

Despite being accused of attempted rape and sexual misconduct, it seems very likely that Brett Kavanaugh will be confirmed next week as the next Supreme Court Justice. He’s about to hold one of the more influential jobs in the country. Kevin Jackson, conversely, is now out of a job… following detestable comments the Fox News contributor made on Twitter yesterday. The now-ousted television personality Tweeted up a disgusting storm on Thursday throughout the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing that involved interviews with Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford . The latter, of course, claims that Kavanaugh forced her on to a bed in the summer of 1982 and tried to rape her. Both Dr. Ford and Judge Kavanaugh were grilled for hours by various members of the United States Senate yesterday morning and afternoon, with most viewers believing that Ford offered a very credible and vulnerable testimony. But Jackson was not one of these viewers. “To hell with the notion that women must be believed no matter what,” Jackson wrote in one tweet. “Lying skanks is what these three women are, and we all know more.” Jackson was referring not just to Ford with this message, but also to Deborah Ramirez, who alleges that Kavanaugh stuck his penis in her face during a gathering at Yale and made her touch it… … and Julie Swetnick , who alleges that Kavanaugh was at minimum “present” during a gang rape in the early 1980s. (After a Twitter user reprimanded Jackson for his harsh words, he replied: “That’s my attitude toward liars of any gender.”) Fox News severed ties with Jackson several hours later, calling his remarks “reprehensible.” But this didn’t stop Jackson from Tweeting — or from doing his best to own the Libs. “Just so we are clear #Leftists, I stand on my principles even if it costs me a gig,” he wrote after he got canned. “You remain lying scum, willing to CRUSH good people for your devilish ideology.” Said Fox News in its full remarks after letting Jackson go: “His comments on today’s hearings were reprehensible and do not reflect the values of Fox News.” But this has simply made Jackson into a martyr, at least in the eyes of Jackson himself. “I stand on the principle of FAIRNESS in the treatment of ALL people,” he also wrote yesterday, adding; “The #Kavanaugh farce proves that #Leftists are simply putrid. My stance got me fired as a Contributor on Fox, and that’s their choice. I made mine!” Back on September 20, Jackson called the Ford allegations “MeToo bullshit at it finest.” He has appeared on the Fox News channel for years, although it’s not clear when he became a contributor. “Wow, #ChristineFord looks rode hard and put up wet, as we say in the country,” he Tweeted yesterday upon getting a look at Ford. To be clear: only gross sexists say that in this country. Please don’t believe this is a commonly-used saying across the country, residents across the globe.
In December of 2016, former Bridalplasty contestant Lisa Marie Naegle was found brutally murdered . It has been nearly two years, but the murderer has been convicted. He was the last man with whom she was seen alive. People reports that a man named Jackie Jerome Rogers has been found guilty of Lisa Maria Naegle’s appalling murder. The court found that on the night of December 18, 2016, he murdered Naegle in his car. Investigators believe that he killed her by striking her at least eight times with a hammer while the two of them were both in the vehicle. He then buried her body in a shallow grave in his own backyard. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office confirmed the results of Rogers’ trial. Naegle and Rogers had been having an affair at the time. Rogers was 34 and her former student. Just hours before her grisly murder, the two attended a friend’s birthday party at a restaurant in Torrance, California. That, investigators discovered, was the last time that anyone but Rogers saw Naegle alive. On Monday, September 24, Rogers was charged with First-Degree Murder. Though Naegle became famous for her role as a reality star contestant on Bridalplasty, in real life, she had a job. She worked as a nurse. When she did not show up for work the following, that set off alarm bells with her coworkers and family. Friends attempted to file a missing person’s report right away. Unfortunately, they were told that they needed to wait 72 hours before an adult’s absence became an emergency. As we now know, Naegle was already dead at the time. Still, even before the police investigation began, friends and family had a lot of questions for Rogers. He claimed to have left Naegle at the restaurant because he felt tired. That did not add up. Then, video surveillance showed that Naegle had left the restaurant with Rogers. Rogers changed his story, claiming to have dropped off Naegle at a gas station. No one was buying it. Rogers became visibly upset at this point. It can seem cruel that it took nearly two years for Naegle’s murderer to be convicted, but the justice system rarely moves swiftly. We hope that this news gives her family the closure that they need. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Passed Away in 2016: Gone, But Not Forgotten
Image via Splash/Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office Botham Jean’s Family Suing Amber Guyger The family of Botham Jean is preparing to file a lawsuit against the officer who killed him and the city of Dallas, Texas. NBC News reports that Jean family Attorney Lee Merritt announced that there will be a lawsuit against now-fired Dallas police officer Amber Guyge r and the city of Dallas. Guyger is facing a manslaughter charge for fatally shooting Jean September 6 after she “mistook his apartment for her own.” No word yet on when the suit will be filed. This is pretty common practice with police brutality cases. Remember when the city of Baltimore paid Freddie Gray’s family $6.5 million??? It’s not a conviction or an admission of guilt, but we’re sure it helps with the unjust pain and suffering. WE HOPE BOTHAM JEAN’S FAMILY GETS ALLLL THE MONEY THEY DESERVE.
Judy Eddy/WENN.com Meek Mill To Be Honored By Inaugural R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players Award Billboard is throwing the first ever installment of a new awards show they have dubbed R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players. The show will air on Thursday, September 27 and has announced that the event’s marquee moment will be Meek Mill receiving the first ever “Power Players Impact Award.” CNN’s Van Jones will be the one to present Meek his award. Billboard reports that they are hoping to recognize the “strength [Meek] has demonstrated in the face of America’s criminal justice system, the light he has shined on the country’s need for justice reform and his constant creative output.” Back in April, the Philly rapper was released from Pennsylvania state prison on bail after he was sentenced last November to two to four years in prison. The rapper is still fighting the probation violation charge that prompted the sentence, which was issued on the basis that he was arrested earlier last year, once for reckless driving and once for fighting at an airport, although both charges ended up being subsequently dropped. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered Mill’s release amid a contentious legal battle, in which the rapper’s lawyers argued that his judge was biased. Beyond that, his original arresting officer, who was the sole witness in the 2008 trial for drug and firearm charges that later resulted in Meek’s probation, was banned from witness stands by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office due to a history of “lying, racial bias, or brutality.” In the few months since Meek’s release, the Roc Nation rapper has been a very outspoken advocate for criminal justice reform. In addition to public comments, he formed a reform awareness foundation with Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin and partnered with Jay-Z to create a docu-series about about the criminal justice system. Congrats to Meek on the upcoming award.
If you’re a Duggar fan, then you’re likely aware that Jana Duggar is single . Jana’s marital status is a big deal among Duggar obsessives, as most of the women in her family are well on their way to spawning a legion of flannel-clad fundies by the time they turn 28. There are many theories as to why Jana might still be single . And of course, very few of them take into account such eminently logical explanations as “she hasn’t met the right guy,” or “she might just prefer being single.” Instead, every few weeks a new theory emerges to explain why Jana insists on bucking the family trend, and most of them involve some scandalous secret that the Duggars are supposedly going to great lengths to keep buried. The latest has to do with Jana’s longtime friend Laura DeMasie. Given the amount of time these two spend together and the fact that they’ve both defied expectations by remaining single, we suppose it was only a matter of time before fans began speculating that Jana and Laura are dating . And if it were true, it would be a deeply satisfying narrative: Two women in a male-dominated frontier finding solace in one another’s arms, like some sort of reality-TV version of a Willa Cather novel. But of course, the Duggars are not deriving as much pleasure from the Jana-Laura love story as the rest of us. Asked point-blank on Twitter this week if Jana and Laura are romantically involved, the ever-outspoken Derick Dillard replied simply, “uh no.” Apparently, that wasn’t blunt enough for one fan, who replied: “Derick you should have put just ‘no’ the ‘uh’ implies you don’t know lol, so this is not confirmation for the masses.” That led Laura to speak out on the matter herself: “How about this then: no,” she replied. Jeez, you would’ve thought someone accused her of something truly scandalous, like preferring Applebee’s to Chili’s. Jana still hasn’t spoken out on the matter, but that’s at least partially due to the fact that partially due to the fact that as an unmarried Duggar woman, she’s not allowed to use social media. So for now at least, we guess the Jana-Laura love story is dead and buried. Fortunately, Duggar fans will always have their fan fiction. Thomas Ravenel is merely under investigation for rape. But the former Southern Charm star has now been arrested for assault and battery. Here is the wealthy reality star’s mug shot: According to Charleston County jail records, Ravenel was booked at 10:11 a.m. on Tuesday and, as of this writing, remains behind bars. The circumstances surrounding his arrest are unclear, however, although news outlets say the charges are “second degree” in nature. As mentioned at the outset of this article, Ravenel has been at the center of another, likely far more serious investigation for months. Police started looking into Thomas back in May after a woman reported him for sexual assault. An ex-nanny to his kids has gone on record as saying that Ravenel “corralled” her into the master bedroom, dropped his pants, blocked the door and “ proceeded to rip my clothes off .” She said this incident took place while Ravenel’s daughter was asleep in the room next door and that she managed to escape before the ordeal went any farther. “Although I believe he should be in jail for his crimes, the reality according to statistics is that he will go unpunished,” the nanny told People Magazine, adding this spring: “I feel the only justice I will receive is to share my story in the efforts to educate the public and support assault survivors Another woman, meanwhile, has also accused Ravenel of attempted rape. In this instance, Ravenel allegedly forced himself on a date back in 2015 , pushing his fingers into her private parts and shoving his penis in her face. According to this alleged victim’s daughter, the woman screamed at Ravenel that he was a “rapist,” which caused him to stop his actions long enough that she also managed to escape. Ravenel, through his attorney, has denied both of these accusations. “My client enjoys a certain degree of fame, which has unfortunately made him a vulnerable target for such claims,” this lawyer, Richard P. Terbrusch, said in response to this second allegation. “The person this woman describes is simply not the man that I know. My client is a loving father, successful businessman, and upright member of the community. He is appalled and hurt by these allegations – and is committed to defending his reputation in the appropriate legal forum.” In response to the hit his reputation has taken as a result of these claims, Ravenel quit Southern Charm several months ago. The lead cast member for the first five seasons of this Bravo program, he said via Twitter that producers have been making him look bad and he’s simply had enough of allowing them to do so. “I’m not doing the show anymore,” he wrote as confirmation, proceeding to play the victim as follows: “In the contract they have the right to fictionalize your story. They took advantage of me. I decided I’ve got too much to lose and informed them I’m not coming back.” Oh well. We have one response to Ravenel’s announcement above: Don’t let the door hit you on the way out! View Slideshow: Southern Charm: How Much Are the Stars Paid?
Former Counting On star Derick Dillard seems unable to stop his bigoted social media attacks on trans teen TV star Jazz Jennings. Fortunately, Jazz doesn’t care what Derick thinks , which is what the kids call a big mood . But even though Jazz is doing her level best to ignore his hate, Derick is firing back and doubling down on his claim that Jazz’s very existence is some form of child abuse. Derick Dillard still doesn’t have a job , and some wonder if that might be why he has so much extra time to tweet hateful things about Jazz Jennings and the trans community. In a recent interview, Jazz, who underwent gender confirmation surgery known as bottom surgery in June, said that she has a don’t-feed-the-trolls approach to Derick’s vitriolic tweets. She says that he’s just trying to elicit a reaction, and that she’s not going to give him what he wants. A Twitter account that appears to primarily exist to attempt to engage with various celebrities asked Derick if he has a response. Derick, seemingly thirsty for the attention, was only too happy to reply. “I just speak out against child abuse, and especially those who promote it, because it’s the right thing to do,” Derick claims in a tweet. “It’s just absolutely awful,” he has decided. “And should not be celebrated.” Obviously, parents supporting their trans children are doing the literal opposite of child abuse. But if you think that it’s hypocritical for a member of the extended Duggar family to make Derick’s statement, you’re not alone. Fans laid into Derick on the subject of child abuse. Fans had some serious questions for Derick. “Do you think blanket training is child abuse?” asked on person on Twitter. Blanket training, a practice of teaching months-old babies to obey their parents by using pain and fear, is advocated by Michael and Debi Pearl. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are tied to this abusive practice . “You should speak out against Michael and Debi Pearl. Children have actually died at the hands of parents upholding the Pearls view of ‘child rearing.’ That’s child abuse,” says another tweet. “Teaching parents how to physically abuse infants and children,” the tweet continues. “Speak out against them.” But the practice of hitting babies to break their will at a young age isn’t the only child abuse scandal in the Duggar family. “You seemed to have no problem appearing on a TV show of a family that forced their sexually abused daughters to appear on Fox News,” accused another tweet. The tweet went on that the girls were forced “to say that none of them even knew what their brother was doing to them because they were all asleep, when the police report told a different story.” Another tweet also brought up Josh Duggar, asking: “So, when are u gonna speak up about your in laws promoting child abuse by protecting ypur brother in law?” That tweet continued: “Or does that not matter because they believe in God? You’re a hypocrite and a hateful man. You don’t get to hide behind god as a way of disguising that.” Child abuse is an extremely upsetting subject. Countless children every day live in fear of a family member or supposed “caregiver.” The world does not do enough to protect its children. Fortunately, Jazz, who will be 18 on October 6, 2018, has a loving and supportive family who have cheered her on as a girl and as an advocate. We only wish that more transgender children received love and support instead of responses like Derick’s. While Derick’s anti-trans attacks on Jazz saw him booted off of Counting On , the good folks over at The Ashley note that I Am Jazz begins airing its fifth season in 2019. It sounds like she’s right to ignore Derick’s social media vitriol. She doesn’t need it to stay relevant — but he does.
