It’s called “Left, Right and Center,” which claims to be a “civilized yet provocative antidote to the screaming talking heads that dominate political debate.” But there’s not a whole lot of truth in advertising for KCRW Santa Monica’s radio program , which is also podcasted on the Internet. The show normally features Robert Scheer, editor of the left-wing investigative Web site Truthdig.com and a former Los Angeles Times columnist, representing the left. Matt Miller, a former Clintonista and senior fellow at the left-wing Center for American Progress represents the so-called center. And former Washington Times editorial page editor and visiting senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation usually represents the right. And for whatever reason, HuffPo editor Arianna Huffington is included to represent what they call the “independent progressive blogosphere,” as if that is somehow different from the “left.” For the June 11 edition of this show , both Blankley and Miller were away and replaced with David Frum, a recently terminated fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, representing the “right” and Lawrence O’Donnell, of MSNBC’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” fill-in fame, representing the “center.” And it was on the broadcast Frum used the platform to take a shot at the Club for Growth. “The Club for Growth is nicknamed amongst some Republicans, ‘The Club for Electing Democrats’ because what it does is it has all these primary challenges,” Frum said. “And either it bleeds existing incumbents or else it opens the way to the election, to the nomination of a less electable Republican and the loss of the district to the Democrats.” If that were indeed the case, should Club for Growth President and Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate Pat Toomey be trailing his Democratic opponent Rep. Joe Sestek? That’s not the case according to three out of four polls posted on Real Clear Politics (the outlier poll being the Daily Kos’ poll). But Frum goes on to make another point – that the unions, by playing more of a role in particular campaigns, are straight out the Club for Growth playbook. “So it is fascinating to me for the unions to decide we’re going to be ‘The Club for Electing Republicans’ on the Democratic side,” he continued. “It is always worth remembering there is not symmetry here. The Republican base is actually bigger than the Democratic base. But a third of the country identifies as conservative, that’s not a majority.” And according to Frum, since the conservative base is larger, the $10 million big labor used in Arkansas in the Blanche Lincoln-Bill Halter race for the Democratic nomination was spent in vain. “But only a fifth of the country identifies as liberal,” Frum said. “That’s even farther from a majority. I think a lot of Democrats in a lot of places, who come October are going to be hungry for that $10 million that is not going to be there for them.”

The Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP last week forced Hallmark to pull from its shelves a graduation card the civil rights group deemed racist. “Printed on the card, is dialogue such as, ‘Watch out, Saturn, this grad is gonna run rings around you!'” reported the Orange County Register on June 3. “And on the audio chip that plays once the card is opened, [characters] Hoops and Yoyo continue their riffing on all the things new graduates are going to do once they get out there to take on the universe…’And you black holes — you’re so ominous! And you planets? Watch your back!'” But as KABC-TV reported, folks at the NAACP hear the words “black whores” (video follows with additional quotes from the OC Register and commentary, h/t Hot Air headlines ): Sounds like an innocent enough reference to that peculiar feature of the solar system known as a black hole to us. But members of the NAACP hear it differently, saying the high-pitched voice of Hoops — or Yoyo, we still can’t keep ’em straight — says “black whores” and is a racist slur against African-American women. Hallmark’s response to KABC was to defend the card — which has been sold for three years now with no complaints — as not being racist at all, but then to go ahead and pull it from all its stores anyway. Imagine that. The card has been around for three years, has a planetary theme addressing a common astronomical term “black holes,” but because some people hear the word “whores,” it has to be pulled — in the same week America’s media lined up to support Helen Thomas despite her anti-Semitic remarks to a rabbi. Sure is an interesting world we live in today.

Six stadiums will each have 15 seats equipped with headphones, and trained commentators will report live on the action happening down on the pitch. In addition, each of these six stadiums will have 15 seats that will be allocated to their sighted guides who will accompany them, while specially trained volunteers will provide assistance within the stadiums. This is a premier in South Africa’s sporting landscape. The initiative, launched by the Swiss National Association for the Blind (SNAB) and the South African National Council for the Blind (SANCB) and financially supported by FIFA, is aimed at making the tournament accessible to all. FIFA Partner Sony is providing the necessary transmitters that will allow people to receive match-day commentary in the stadiums free of charge. The SANCB is ensuring that the tickets are fairly allocated and only a very limited number of tickets are still available for 19 matches via .www. sancb.org.za . “Football is a universal sport and it must be accessible to everyone. We are therefore delighted to be able to make this unique live experience in the stadium also accessible to visually impaired and blind people. This project is another launching pad for South African sports and will create a legacy with services and facilities at football grounds for visually impaired and blind South Africans,” said FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter. The Institute of Advancement of Journalism was responsible for sourcing, training and coordinating the audio descriptors, while the Academy of Sound Engineering students will perform the technical audio functions that will be necessary to ensure that the audio descriptions are correctly transmitted to the visually impaired fans at the stadiums. CNN anchor Dr. Sanjay Gupta refreshingly made an implicitly pro-life argument during a report about how toxic chemicals possibly affect the unborn children: “Here in the womb, enveloped in darkness and warmth, a baby’s life begins in earnest. It is a sacred space: pristine, insulated, more than nine months of safe refuge from the world outside ” . Dr. Gupta made that statement as he gave a voice-over for the first segment of his “Toxic Childhood” special, which first aired on Thursday evening at 8 pm Eastern. CGI of a baby in the womb played as he described the “sacred space.” The anchor continued on this note in his first question to Dr. Frederica Perera of Columbia University: ” We imagine a baby sort of nice and safe and tucked away in the womb , impervious to all the assaults that occur on the body. You say, not so fast?” So Gupta twice referred to the unborn human as a “baby.” Despite this pro-life language, the CNN anchor failed to mention the liberal affiliation of the Environmental Working Group, an organization whose study he cited during the report, and how they are a project of the Tides Foundation . On two earlier occasions as well, Gupta leaned towards the pro-abortion side. During a December 19, 2008 segment , he included only one pro-life voice among several statements and clips from pro-abortion groups opposed to the expansion of health care workers’ right not to participate in controversial procedures such as abortion and in-vitro fertilization. The doctor also failed to correct former President Clinton after he repeatedly referred to human embryos as not being fertilized during a March 11, 2009 interview. Over the past year, CNN has slanted several times towards the pro-abortion position. Correspondent Carol Costello’s June 2, 2009 report highlighted a prediction by former Washington Post reporter Cynthia Gorney that there would be a “huge backlash” against pro-lifers after the murder of late-term abortionist George Tiller. CNN senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin fretted in a November 23, 2009 column that “abortion, as the academics like to say, is being marginalized.” Earlier in 2010, CNN.com attacked black pro-lifers and anchor Kyra Phillips conducted a softball interview of a woman who Tweeted her abortion as it took place. On the other hand, CNN’s Anderson Cooper spotlighted a woman who decided not to abort her infant daughter despite her severe genetic defects during a June 2, 2009 interview .

I admit I rented the brand new Artie Lange Jack and Coke DVD (my DVD store gets DVDs 10 days earlier before the normal release) right away because of Howard Stern Show Artie Lange’s recent suicide attempt as I thought this being America there will now be a Mad Rush for the DVD and it’ll be hard to rent for weeks. It arrived at my DVD store within 5 minutes after I entered the store and I pounced on it. Normally, I would have seen it maybe a few months after the release but I figured it would be unavailable for a while so rent it when the goings good. As it is, the Artie Lange Jack and Coke DVD is so hilarious I wound up buying it the day after I rented it, its so funny, easily the funniest stand up comedy act I’ve ever seen and I want to have the DVD all the time to show my friends, family, cool girlfriends, etc. For any of you who saw Artie Lange on his classic appearance on the First Joe Buck TV Show, imagine around 90 minutes of this stuff, non-stop, even more politically incorrect and offensive and 10 times funnier. Artie Lange’s routine on Tom Brady and his wife Giselle Bundchen is so funny, sick and profanely offensive, it’s a classic! I can’t repeat any of that or most of Artie’s jokes here on this blog unfortunately because they are beyond X-Rated! To give you an idea about this DVD, Artie Starts out his act riffing about how he’s glad “Heather Ledger died” and non-stop Gay jokes that I think gays with a sense of humor might like and not be offended. Artie proceeds to use the N word, makes jokes at his own expense and offers plenty of drug jokes, sex jokes, minority jokes, the Special olympics, Aids jokes, and minority imitations with no filtering, but no matter how offensive Artie Lange’s jokes and presentation is, he is hilarious. A comedian who doesn’t filter his outrageously offensive humor. If this isn’t your thing then obviously you shouldn’t rent or buy the Artie Lange “Jack and Coke” DVD. It’s too bad, “Jack and Coke” didn’t come out immediately after Artie Lange’s appearance on the Jack Buck show which reminded me of Dennis Hopper and Kyle MacLachlan’s charaters in the David Lynch move “Blue Velvet” as it would have sold a million copies. I hope Artie Lange makes a full recovery from whatever’s bothering him and lives a long, good life. We need the Artie Lange’s in this world. See Artie Lange’s “Jack and Coke” DVD, its hilarious! By Gil Kaufman Crystal Bowersox on “American Idol” Photo: FOX During Wednesday night’s results show, Crystal Bowersox talked about how exciting it is for her to see how her run on “American Idol” has brought some hope to her struggling hometown of Toledo, Ohio. She got emotional when reliving her trip home last week and the joy she saw in the eyes of her northwest Ohio fans. On Thursday (May 20), that pride was peaking after the single mom made it to next week’s finale . “I feel incredible about her making it all the way,” said good friend Nate Woodward , who was in the audience for both shows this week in Los Angeles. “I’m not surprised, because I certainly think she has the ability, but it’s still kind of weird. We come from this little town, and to see her do it — even though we know she has the talent — is pretty awe-inspiring.” Just like Bowersox, Woodward hesitated for a second on Wednesday night when host Ryan Seacrest announced her finale bid, because he said it’s a bit hard to hear the audio from the stage in the “Idol” studio. “It was confusing,” he said of the moment when Seacrest told Crystal she’d be joining Lee DeWyze in the finale, to which she said “I’m safe? I’m safe?” “We felt the same way Crystal did, and the crowd was all asking, ‘What did he say?’ But once we figured it out, it was kind of emotional,” Woodward recalled. “I was with her boyfriend, Tony, and his two sisters, and we just all jumped up and down and clapped and got pretty emotional.” Woodward said he also got emotional when watching the footage of the hometown visit, because he knows what a huge impact her success has had on people back home and how genuine her feelings are about the trip back. “It really does give us something to feel good about right now,” he said. “People have something to smile about. But more than anything else, it comes down to the fact that she does actually have a gift and talent.” Will she win? Nate sure hopes so, and he thinks she deserves it, but he knows Lee is stiff competition and that no matter what happens Crystal — whom he used to watch play to a dozen or so people from behind the bar at the Village Idiot bar back home — has already won just by getting this far. “I wasn’t surprised that Crystal advanced yesterday, but still, I was nervous and happy when they announced that,” said John Schafer, the booker for the Village Idiot . “I believe that, clearly, she has been the best from the beginning and is the one to beat.
