Jessa Duggar: Speaking Engagement Protested By Victims’ Rights Advocates

Jessa Duggar has undergone quite a shift in public perception in recent months. Thanks in no small part to the various Josh Duggar sex scandals , Jessa has gone being seen as the semi-relatable “down to earth one” in a family full of religious zealots, to the embodiment of the sort of misogynistic, oppressive culture that allows a predator like Josh to go unpunished. Sources say Jessa is angry that Josh’s indiscretions have led to a lack of public interest in her pregnancy , and now she may have yet another reason to be pissed off at her oldest brother: According to Radar Online, Jessa’s upcoming speech at the Southern Women’s Show may be canceled due to outrage over her family’s sheltering of a deviant molester and adulterer. “I would bet that there will be many women coming to your event that have been sexually molested,” wrote one critic on the event’s Facebook page. “How do you think they will feel about this girl who minimizes it and has been taught it is her fault. You seriously need to re-think who your paid guests are! “Why the hell would you invite a girl who was raised in a family that looks down on women?” wrote a different Facebook user. “I’M NOT GOING NOW!!! P*** poor role model, liar from a bigot family. BOYCOTT!” wrote another. Jessa was initially viewed as a sympathetic figure, having been groped and sexually harassed by her brother when she was still in her pre-teen years. Her vehement defense of Josh’s actions , however, have led many to believe that she’s too brainwashed by her family’s patriarchal beliefs to make a suitable speaker for an event designed to empower women.  Currently, Jessa is still scheduled to take the stage at 1 pm tomorrow. Tila Tequila: Kicked Out of Celebrity Big Brother House Due to Neo-Nazi Beliefs

The current season of Celebrity Big Brother is only one episode in; the series doesn’t even air in the US, and yet somehow, we’re already hooked on the drama. Earlier today, we reported that Farrah Abraham attacked her housemate just minutes into the season premiere, and now TMZ is reporting that MySpace model-turned-raving-lunatic Tila Tequila has already been kicked off the show. The decision stems from a social media post from 2013, in which Tila described her love for Hitler and posed in full Nazi regalia in front of a backdrop of the Auschwitz concentration camp. Ms. Tequila has converted to Judaism less than a year earlier, so we think it’s safe to say she was more than a bit confused at that point in her life. Whatever the case, Tila’s bizarre pro-Hitler rant and wildly offensive photo has now cost her a spot in the Big Brother house. Sources say producers reached the decision after the topic of racism came up in a conversation amongst housemates, and Tila predictably offended several other cast members. That segment will reportedly never air. Thousands signed petitions protesting the show when it was announced that Tila had been cast earlier this year. It didn’t take long for them to get their wish, and as a bonus, Tila will reportedly not receive the $175,000 that she was supposed to be paid for her participation. So it looks like Farrah is officially the most dangerous psychopath in the house now. Interestingly, she and Ms. Tequila are old friends. Tila gave her Best Celebrity Sex Tape award to Farrah when she won in an upset victory earlier this year.

Liam Neeson Reportedly Signs Up for Battleship

Well, this probably accounts for around $10 million of the reported $200 million Universal has set aside for Battleship . Taken star Liam Neeson has signed to play Admiral Shane, a naval officer whose daughter (Brooklyn Decker) is engaged to the newly shorn Taylor Kitsch. Expect much arguing and, ultimately, begrudging acceptance. Also: Aliens . [ Deadline ]

Today in Unwatchable Things: Uwe Boll’s NSFW Holocaust Movie Trailer

The teaser trailer for Uwe Boll’s Auschwitz has finally made its debut, and — what’s that you say? Why yes, the man behind Bloodrayne , Alone in the Dark and Postal has gone and made a movie about the notorious Nazi death camp, flinging awareness of it your way like a little graphic, NSFW poison dart. Just because I ducked doesn’t mean you have to. Tell me what I missed (besides Boll playing a Nazi guard, pictured) after the jump.

USA Today Blogger Annoyed by Ground Zero Mosque/Auschwitz Convent Analogies

“Ground Zero is not Auschwitz, so why all the analogies?” USA Today religion blogger Cathy Lynn Grossman asks that question with the headline of her August 18 Faith & Reason post . Grossman explained that the comparison stems from conservatives who pointed out an incident in the early 1990s when Pope John Paul II halted a planned convent near the Auschwitz concentration camp. The nuns had every right to build the convent, but it was unwise and insensitive to do so, leading the pontiff to scrap the plan. By way of analogy, Muslims have every right to build a mosque near Ground Zero, but the insensitivity of doing so blocks from the site of the deadliest radical Islamic terror attack in U.S. history should lead Muslim leaders to call for the project to be scrapped. But Grossman then went on to quote two liberals who reject the Auschwitz analogy as invalid before she conflated the Ground Zero mosque issue with isolated incidents across the country where other folks are raising NIMBY objections to mosques in their hometowns (emphasis Grossman’s): Meanwhile, none of the analogies flying about address whether people who are enraged at Islam care about individual Muslms or mosque zoning — from Manhattan, to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to Temecula, Calif., where a Baptist pastor objects to a mosque planned for near his church. And New York Gov. David Paterson will soon meet with Cordoba Initiative planners behind the lower Manhattan community center to discuss the location. Does this sound familiar? Are we still on the post from earlier this week? Is anywhere far enough away to suit critics? How do you apply the First Amendment here?
