Paul Wall, Baby Bash Arrested For Drug Possession

‘Fresh out the El Paso County jail wit @Babybash @Biggroy, in the same tank they held Willie Nelson/Johnny Cash,’ Wall tweeted following his release. By Gil Kaufman Paul Wall Photo: FilmMagic Rappers Paul Wall (born Paul Michael Slayton) and Baby Bash (Ronald Ray Bryant) were arrested in El Paso, Texas, early Sunday morning on suspicion of possession of less than two ounces of marijuana. The pair, who were in town to perform at the Summer Jamm 2011 show on Saturday, were released on Sunday afternoon after each posted a $300 bond, according to the El Paso Times . Wall announced the arrest on his Twitter account, writing, “fresh out the El Paso County jail wit @Babybash @Biggroy, in the same tank they held Willie Nelson/Johnny Cash,” accompanied by a photo of him in the back of a police car with Bash, who is in handcuffs. The arrest occurred in what was described in press accounts as a “drug-free” zone, a detail that was explained in a subsequent Facebook post from Bash. While Wall, 30, seemed to have a good sense of humor about the incident, Bash, 41, was a bit more heated in his Twitter response. “Ain’t 2much worse than a ” HOE ASS PUNK EL PASO COP that abuses his authority, just cuz me and Paul Wall are artists! Only GEEKS and fools who don’t have any spine abuses Authority! But I’m back in the FLESH feelin’ so FRESH, out the tank mang!” He quickly clarified , though, that he was not lashing out at cops over the arrest. “I’m not here to diss ALL police, they have a tuff gig and I respect that! BUT u have the ONE or TWO that will disrespect & abuse the power cuz maybe they got picked on in high school a lot and now have a chip on their shoulder, and that’s exactly wut happened to us, all we did was SMELL like weed and wen he couldn’t find it and we didn’t snitch on who sparked it, he got overdramatic and took us in! He found out who we were and really got big shot on us! Haha even his partner said he’s a di–.” Bash continued , claiming that bail was low because the judge “knew it was a bogus call.” He said the pals admitted in court that they had smoked earlier, which is why they “smelled like tree,” but that they didn’t have any marijuana on them at the time of the arrest. “That made him [the officer] mad cuz he thought RAPPER must have large amount!” A spokesperson for the El Paso Police Department was not available for comment at press time. Prop 8: Federal Appeals Court Puts California Same-Sex Marriages On Hold Indefinitely | Updates

Federal Appeals Court Puts Same-Sex Marriages On Hold Indefinitely http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_KrNl-GdSDb4/SF_T82PjUSI/AAAAAAAAAcY/fecu5sd8RO4/s400/s… Breaking: Ninth Circuit Stays Prop. 8 Decision _____ http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2010/08/federal-appeals-court-blocks-enfor… Los Angeles Times Southern California — this just in No gay marriages in California before December, court rules August 16, 2010 | 3:58 pm The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday agreed to keep same-sex marriages on hold until at least December. In a brief order, a three-judge panel agreed to an expedited review of U.S. District Judge Vaughn R. Walker's Aug. 4 ruling that overturned Proposition 8 as a violation of the federal Constitution. The panel agreed to hold a hearing on the case during the week of Dec. 6 and ordered both sides to present arguments on whether the campaign for Proposition 8 has legal authority to appeal Walker's order. Walker had declared Proposition 8's ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional, saying it violates gay men's and lesbians' rights to equal protection and due process. The defendants in that case were Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown, but they declined to defend the law. As the losing parties, they have the authority to appeal Walker's ruling. But they hailed Walker's decision and said they would not appeal. A private group that opposes same-sex marriage, ProtectMarriage.com, defended Proposition 8 during the trial Walker held earlier this year. The group wants to appeal his ruling but may lack legal standing to do so. — Maura Dolan in San Francisco added by: EthicalVegan

LAT Writer Declines to Give Details on Huge Defeat of ObamaCare by Missouri ‘Republican Voters’

Wouldn’t you say that an important part of any election story would be the numbers involved, especially in the case of landslides? Perhaps someone should give a heads up on this to Los Angeles Times writer Noam N. Levey of the Times’ Tribune Washington bureau. Although he does report that Missouri voters, whom he labels as “Republican voters,” voted to approve Proposition C yesterday which challenged ObamaCare’s requirement that Americans must purchase health insurance, the all important margin of the lopsided victory was noticeable by its absence. Reading Levey’s article you wouldn’t know if Proposition C was approved by 51 or 52 percent of Missouri voters or was the actual figure so much higher that Levey found it painful to relay that information? Reporting from Washington — Striking a largely symbolic blow at President Obama’s healthcare overhaul, Missouri voters approved a ballot measure Tuesday challenging the new law’s requirement that Americans buy health insurance starting in 2014. The proposition, which sought to deny the federal government the authority to penalize people for not getting insurance, is expected to have little practical effect on implementation of the healthcare law. But the Missouri measure represented the first electoral test for the landmark legislation that Obama signed in March. And it underscored continued hostility to the law from Republican voters. So what was the actual size of the number of “Republican voters” who approved of Proposition C in Missouri? Since Levey won’t provide that detail, let us turn to the Wall Street Journal for that information: With all precincts reporting, 71% of voters supported Proposition C , establishing a state law that says Missouri cannot compel people to pay a penalty or fine if they fail to carry health coverage. Twenty-nine percent voted against the proposition. So an overwhelming 71% of Missouri voters supported proposition C and they were “Republican voters” according to Levey. No wonder he was embarrassed to reveal the actual number. 71% would mean a lot of voters other than “Republican voters” cast their ballots in favor of proposition C.  Despite this obvious fact, Levey continues with his Republican obsession: Opposition to the law has remained particularly intense among Republicans, with nearly 8 in 10 in a recent national USA Today/Gallup survey saying it was a “bad thing.” So it’s all the fault of “Republican voters” who must make up 71% of the Missouri electorate according to Levey’s premise. Of course, the absurdity of that premise is probably the reason why he declined to report on the actual details of the Proposition C landslide yesterday.

Why We Need Federal Safeguards for Coal Ash

One of the homes destroyed by the December 2008 Tennessee Valley Authority coal ash disaster in Harriman, Tenn. Photo by Lyndsay Moseley. How would you like to live near a pile of toxic waste that, every time the wind blew, spread its particles into your neighborhood? Or this—how would you like to live near a pond full of toxic waste that had no liner and could be seeping into the groundwater and nearby waterways with no penalty? This is happening to thousands of Americans right now—and the toxic waste is coal ash, the by-product of burning coal for energy…. Read the full story on TreeHugger
