Stephen Baldwin was arrested Thursday on charges that he has not filed state income taxes for three years. The youngest Baldwin brother pleaded not-guilty at an arraignment in Rockland County, New York. He was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court on February 5th. District Attorney Thomas Zugibe’s office released a statement that Baldwin failed to file for 2008, 2009, and 2010 tax seasons. Baldwin owes over $350,000 including penalties and interest. Stephen Baldwin, who became a conservative political activist a few years ago, has cooperated with officials over the year long investigation into his finances. He wrote a check for $100,000 as part of a down payment in “good faith.” Baldwin could face up to four years in state prison if convicted.

He claimed he owes more than $2.3 million and owns a New York property valued at only $1.1 million. His wife, Kennya Baldwin, also is named in the document. In December 2010, Baldwin filed a $3.8 million lawsuit against actor Kevin Costner over oil-separating technology that was used to help solve the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. In June 2012, a jury found in favor of Costner and awarded Baldwin no damages. The AP reports on the ongoing courtroom drama between actor/reality TV personality/bankrupt Republican Stephen Baldwin and actor/musician/celebrity investor Kevin Costner , which took a turn for the salacious this week when a witness testified that Baldwin had transpired to “blackmail” Costner over a sum of $21 million involving the pair’s interests in ocean clean-up technology, of all things, following the 2010 BP oil spill. “I said, ‘Stephen, that’s blackmail,'” [business associate Scott Smith] recalled.
