Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, head of the Islamic State or Iraq and the Levant, yesterday appeared on a 19-minute audiotape calling on Muslims to come to the territory his group has seized to help build an Islamic state. A meeting was soon organised with ISIS overall chief Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, an Iraqi, in which al Shishani pledged loyalty to him, say reports. He first showed his battlefield prowess in August 2013, when his fighters proved pivotal in taking the Syrian military#39;s Managh air base in
Many have tried and failed to reboot Wonder Woman for contemporary audiences (some rather famously – looking at you , David E. Kelley). If The CW succeeds with “Amazon,” their origin series will envision the Amazonian warrior princess as a tough twentysomething fish-out-of-water named… Iris. According to Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva , a casting breakdown calls for Wonder Woman/Iris (maybe that’s just a code name, let’s hope) who’s at least 5’8″ and looks to be in her twenties; the character “comes from a remote, secluded country and until now has spent most of her life as a soldier and a leader on the battlefield.” Wonder Woman may be a leggy Amazonian goddess who’s handy in a fight, but her journey is so Beastmaster 2 : “Because of relentless brutality of her life at home, Iris looks at our world with absolute awe and astonishment. She’s delighted and just as often horrified by the aspects of everyday life that we take for granted: skyscrapers, traffic, ice cream. It’s all new and fascinating and sometimes slightly troubling to her.” This Wonder Woman is a tactless heroine with no social skills who’s an overachieving idealist who “can tell when you’re lying to her,” although it’s unclear whether that’s because she has a Lasso of Truth or if that iconic accessory has been metaphorically internalized. “Iris is completely unschooled in our world, our culture, our customs,” continues the breakdown. “And she’s completely inexperienced at interpersonal relationships. She has no social filter, does not suffer fools, and tends to do and say exactly what’s on her mind at all times. She’s bluntly, refreshingly honest. She can tell when you’re lying to her. And she doesn’t have time or patience for politics or tact because she’s too busy trying to experience everything our world has to offer. There are too many sights to see and things to learn and people to care for. Hers is a true, noble, and generous heart.” Etc., etc. Avengers director Joss Whedon (who’s also tackling Avengers 2 ) was set in 2005 to write and direct his own Wonder Woman film, which would have also followed a fish-out-of-water approach. Whedon described his version of the Wonder Woman mythos to Rookie Magazine last year: “[Wonder Woman] was a little bit like Angelina Jolie [laughs]. She sort of traveled the world. She was very powerful and very naïve about people, and the fact that she was a goddess was how I eventually found my in to her humanity and vulnerability, because she would look at us and the way we kill each other and the way we let people starve and the way the world is run and she’d just be like, ‘None of this makes sense to me. I can’t cope with it, I can’t understand, people are insane.’ And ultimately her romance with [classic Wonder Woman love interest Steve Trevor] was about him getting her to see what it’s like not to be a goddess, what it’s like when you are weak, when you do have all these forces controlling you and there’s nothing you can do about it. That was the sort of central concept of the thing. Him teaching her humanity and her saying, OK, great, but we can still do better.” Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is concurrently planning a Justice League movie and Wonder Woman standalone films , which will need to find their own starlet to don that star-spangled onesie and boots. With The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part II finally in theaters, it’s time to get to spoiler-talkin’ — did Bill Condon & Co. blow minds with the Big Crazy Twist in their big-screen adaptation? How much sexy time do newborn vampires have? Is imprinting totally not creepy when the power of Taylor Lautner ’s abs is compelling you? Spoilers, obviously! Five films and a few billion dollars into Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight franchise, the Breaking Dawn crew have put together arguably the best film in the series. Whether you’re a Twi-hard or staunchly unconverted to the sparkly cause, sound off below on all the over-the-top vampire theatrics of the franchise finale, starting with these nine key moments, scenes, and changes from the book: The Battle Sequence Let’s shove the elephant in the room out of the way first: How about that battle scene? The X-Men -style mutant power stand-off that closes Meyer’s novel series was always going to be the film’s biggest technical challenge, with invisible vampire powers surging across the battlefield left and right. Harder still, in the books the battle was anti-climactic, a non-starter that never actually takes place on the page. I repeat: Nobody dies. No heads roll. Literally nothing happens. Enter screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg and Meyer’s big cinematic fix. We now see what Alice sees, the future possibility of a Cullen-Volturi massacre that ends with Aro’s death, not to mention the certain doom of many beloved Twilight characters. The fake-out ending allows for the best action of the franchise, not to mention a key element seldom seen throughout the faithful films to date — surprise. Bella’s Fierceness Critics, feminists, and non-fans of the books have long complained about Bella’s passivity, with good reason; for the majority of the series she’s fragile, self-doubting, and almost always in need of protection by the men in her life. Where Breaking Dawn is most satisfying, then, is in Bella’s emotional and physical transformation. She’s strong. She can arm-wrestle and eat mountain lions. She has a temper. She has an appetite for blood, and for sex. After four years of watching Bella mope around Forks, she finally grows a pair — and while that is a reversal of the average-girl fantasy that made Twilight popular to begin with, and despite the fact that her superpower is a maternal and protective “shielding” talent instead of something more, y’know, awesome, it’s so much better to see Bella Swan strong than not. Jacob’s Abs They’re real, and they’re fabulous. They’re also, hilariously enough, integral to the scene at hand: Jacob strips down in front of Charlie to morph into wolfy form in order to keep the Cullens from leaving town. The exchange between Taylor Lautner and Billy Burke also injects a much-needed dose of levity to the franchise, which brings me to… The Humor Finally, the Twilight franchise has a sense of humor. That sidelong glance between Edward and Jacob before Bella learns her bestie has eyes for her new baby; the way newborn Bella hungrily grabs her man, ready to do it for forever now that she no longer has to worry about getting pregnant and being crushed to death/being eaten in the heat of the moment. And while we’re on the subject…
‘I spit and I spit for real, so I wanted to bring that hunger aspect to it and that feeling like I gotta be #1,’ MC says of The Hunger Game. By Rob Markman, with reporting by James Lacsina Tito Lopez Photo: Main Pick Headliner : Tito Lopez Representing : Gulfport, Mississippi Mixtape : The Hunger Game Real Spit : Tito Lopez sure is confident; then again, if you could rap tightly packed bars like the Gulfport, Mississippi, MC, you would be too. On his latest mixtape, The Hunger Game, Tito puts all of his skill and confidence on full display. “I named my mixtape The Hunger Game basically because if anybody knows me, they know I love movies,” Tito told Mixtape Daily. Lopez found a parallel in “The Hunger Games” film and the rap game where he hopes to one day be crowned a king. “If you never seen that movie these kids have to fight to the death, they’re kids and it’s really kind of messed up. They gotta fight ’till it’s one winner and I feel like that’s the competition aspect that’s missing out of rap,” he said. On “Try Me,” Tito invites all would-be detractors to the battlefield. “Feast on beats and pick my teeth, if you want some bitch come find me/ I’ll make it hard for you to stand as a man, let alone stand by me, come try me,” he spits to end his first verse. Tito is currently a rap underdog, even though his talent has earned him a deal with Capitol Records. On “Mass Appeal 2.0” he proves his worth lyrically over a re-worked Gang Starr instrumental and then rhymes over another DJ Premier beat with his “Devil’s Pie” freestyle. Both are winners. With “Jessica,” Tito shows that it isn’t all slick metaphors and battle raps, as he weaves an intricate story rhyme about a high-school crush. His current single “Mama Proud” shows even more range; it’s a heartfelt tune dedicated to his come-up in the game. After listening to tracks like “Black Ice Freestyle,” “They Told Me” and “Ventilation,” it becomes increasingly difficult to deny Tito his place in the game. “I spit and I spit for real, so I wanted to bring that hunger aspect to it and that feeling like I gotta be #1,” he said. “If I gotta knock cats out to be that, I will be that.” Joints to Check For > > “They Told Me”— “It’s like a triumphant type joint. I’ve made that just to basically let people know I’ve come along way.” > > “Jessica” — “This is one of my favorite joints period. I tell a story about a girl who she has low self-esteem, she made some bad choices, had a hard life and she don’t have no self-respect or nothin’ like that. Basically during the story, I’m trying to tell her to respect herself more, to make better choices.” Related Artists Tito Lopez

Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth make their big superhero debut as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. By Josh Wigler Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. in “Avengers” Photo: Marvel In 2008, during the final moments of “Iron Man,” the world at large became aware of a phenomenon that comic book readers have known about for years when Samuel L. Jackson, dressed eye to toe in S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury’s black leather garb, introduced the concept of “the ‘Avengers’ initiative.” Fast-forward almost four full years later, and we’re nearly there: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are on the cusp of assembling for “Marvel’s ‘The Avengers,’ ” and today (October 11), true believers across the globe are getting their first glimpse at the superhero blockbuster’s all-star roster in action. Directed by Joss Whedon and featuring all of your favorite Marvel heroes including Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and ol’ Shellhead himself (Robert Downey Jr.), “The Avengers” is poised to be the biggest comic book movie of all time … and the trailer certainly helps to sell that epic scope. The “Avengers” trailer , which debuted online at Apple.com , begins with a menacing monologue from familiar adversary Loki, last seen at the end of “Thor” falling into a cosmic abyss. “You were made to be ruled,” he whispers cruelly as shots of carnage and chaos flood the screen, “and in the end, it will be every man for himself.” A quick cut of scenes brings us to Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his boss, Fury, putting their heads together about how best to solve this unknown, ongoing crisis hatched by Loki and his devious plotting. “There was an idea,” Fury says, “to bring together a group of remarkable people, so that when we needed them, they could fight the battles that we never could.” Cue those remarkable people: the Asgardian hero Thor, the time-displaced Steve Rogers, the easily enraged Bruce Banner, the eagle-eyed Clint Barton, the deadly Black Widow and, of course, the eternally arrogant Tony Stark. We see these heroes on the battlefield fighting both alongside each other and against one another, showing just how difficult it’s going to be for these superpowered warriors to get along. But even if they can’t settle their differences, Stark is looking on the bright side: “If we can’t protect the Earth, you can be damned sure that we’ll avenge it.” Between Nick Fury launching a bazooka at an unseen assailant and Banner transforming into “an enormous green rage monster,” we’d say most of our “Avengers” trailer wishes have been fulfilled. The movie assembles in theaters on May 4, 2012. Here’s a highlight reel of what Battlelog offers, though I’m sure many of us know what it does far too well with the Battlefield 3 beta currently open to all willing participants.
