Source: Infinity Ward / Activision Today (August 1), Infinity Ward and Activision unveiled the multiplayer mode for the upcoming “reboot” of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and boy does it look GOOD. With fans of the ridiculously popular first-person shooter franchise already hyped after seeing the story mode trailer , today’s reveal during the big live stream event in Los Angeles definitely has them salivating. In the 3:02 clip we are pleased to learn that Killstreaks are returning and they are not the same old ones we are used to from previous titles. We also get a glimpse of the new maps players will battle it out on for COD dominance. During the event, Infinity Ward discussed the many changes players can expect when they play the game. The reimagined version of Modern Warfare will be scrapping symmetrical three-lane maps we were used to in favor of more open-ended stages. Developers also revealed there will be deep weapon customization in the game. Gone is the Pick 10 system with players now able to customize weapons with up to 60 attachments. Game loadouts will now allow combatants to carry both a lethal and tactical grenades, two guns and equip three perks. A “Ground War” mode is also coming to Modern Warfare’s multiplayer that will allow up to 100+ players to take part in the action. It wasn’t shown during today’s event. This news followed the reveal of the games new 2V2 “Gunfight” mode back in July. Activision also spilled the beans on upcoming Beta with PlayStation 4 owners getting first dibs beginning September 12-13 (early access) and September 14-16 (Open beta). As announced previously, Modern Warfare will allow all the consoles to play nice with each other introducing cross-play to the franchise. Early access for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners begins September 19-20 with the open beta kicking off September 21-23. After successfully hosting over 300 people of color last summer, #BlackGirlBeachDay is BACK. The event was born from the brilliant minds of Christina Bright and Snap Lancaster . After the friends curated a small beach gathering two years ago Black Women from all over attended the next year, expanding their attendance nearly tenfold. Unfortunately, the ladies ran into some struggles including cops harassing them over ‘loud music’. Now they’re legitimizing the meetup. This year’s event will include security, lifeguards, a carpool and a plethora of activities. Chicken Bone Beach was a rare haven for families seeking some oceanside relief from the heat and quickly became a HOT SPOT! . . . When Chicken Bone Beach was segregated , many of the nearby restaurants refused to serve black customers. As such, families would have to pack their own picnic lunches. Their leftovers would litter the beach, scattered by animals and the elements. The name Chicken Bone Beach arose from the large amounts of leftover bones found in the sand. With the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, all Atlantic City beaches were open to everyone and this all-black beach disappeared. By the 1970s Casinos further changed the culture of the beach by making Atlantic City into a world class resort which in turn limited access to all working class families. To protect this endangered African American heritage site, the Atlantic City Council passed an ordinance in 1997, declaring Chicken Bone Beach (also known as the Missouri Avenue Beach) into an historical landmark. . . According to WRAL.com , Lee Dingle was playing with his children in the ocean at Oak Island when a huge wave forced his head to the ground. His neck broke and his throat swelled, causing his brain to be deprived of oxygen. “A powerful wave at the beach, something totally unexpected,” said April Schweitzer, a family friend. “There was just too much swelling to do anything for him.” Damn. Dingle was 37 and left behind six kids. His wife, Shannon Dingle, wrote on Twitter: “Some heroes – including our kids – tried to save him, but it wouldn’t have mattered what they did. His body couldn’t recover from the initial injury. We met when I was 18 and he was 19, and we’ve been together ever since. I wasn’t supposed to be saying goodbye at 37. About one month ago, Fernanda Flores posted an massive 44-minute documentary explaining why her marriage to Jonathan Rivera came to an end. She leveled some major accusations against him at the time. Now, Fernanda has opened up further to fans. And this time, she has some words about Jonathan’s new girlfriend, too. … First of all, fans want to know if she heard from Jonathan after she posted her video accusing him of money problems, drinking problems, and abuse. “No he didn’t,” Fernanda shares. “We don’t have contact at all.” She did note that his family reached out to her to ask that a photo of them that was featured in the video be removed. Fernanda obliged their concerns, pulling the video, editing it, and then returning the new version. “I totally get it,” Fernanda explains. Naturally, since Jonathan has been flaunting his new lady love on social media, the topic came up. Fernanda says that she doesn’t “really have an opinion.” That makes sense. They’ve never so much as met. That said, Fernanda does admit that she’s surprised that this girl would willingly be “with a married man.” Wait, what? We were all under the impression that their divorce papers were taken care of earlier this summer. “He said that he signed the divorce papers. Lie,” Fernanda declares. “He just filed for divorce,” she adds. “And I just got the paperwork last week” “How you don’t respect yourself as a woman?” Fernanda seems to ask Fernanda’s new girl. “Divorce first and then, well see, right?” she suggests. Fernanda offers an explanation for why, despite her youth, her looks, and her modeling work, she isn’t back in the dating game. She reasons: “some people just go right away to relationships to feel good with themselves and say ‘look how happy I am.’” “Other people heal by themselves, deal with the pain … and then move on,” Fernanda states. The implication here is that Fernanda is of that second variety, working on herself before she tries love again. It also sounds like she’s caling Jonathan’s happiness shallow or performative. “The producers reached out to me when we separated,” Fernanda reveals to her fans. But, she notes, they also made contact with Jonathan. “He answered them,” Fernanda says. “He talked to them. He filmed with them. He [sold] his part of the story to them.” “The reason why I didn’t is because I got zero from the show,” she explains. “I got no money from it.” “He did,” she notes. “And I felt like that was really, really unfair because I came here without money.” “I didn’t want to be part of that anymore,” Fernanda explains. She’s not the first 90 Day Fiance star to want to take charge of her portrayal. On the more positive and less dramatic side of things, it does sound like Fernanda is much happier these days. Spearheaded in Long Beach, California, ComplexCon is Complex’s “world fair of youth culture” and is known for bringing thousands of sneaker heads, change makers, community leaders, artists, fashion gurus, entertainers and celebrities together for two-days of music, art, discussion, entertainment and culture. Now, the annual festival is making its way across the country for the first time ever and introducing the Windy City (and the nation) to ComplexCon Chicago in what appears to be the network’s biggest event yet. Executive Producer Isis Arias Clermont promises that the inaugural ComplexCon Chicago will be unlike any other. “It’s different than traditional festivals that are more focused on music and art,” Clermont explained. “It’s really bringing the ‘URL to IRL’. The experience includes retail and shopping opportunities with cool brands, music performances (which are the energetic part of the show) and Complex Current which is a format of our panels and fireside chats with talent that speak to different topics that our audience is interested in.” One of the ways Chicago will differ from Long Beach is through the introduction of the first ever ComplexCon Community Week which is a weeklong series of community driven events meant to provide resources to cities (like Chicago) that birthed Complex Culture. Led by Complex’s Director of Community Outreach, Nicole Russell , ComplexCon Community Week will kick off on Monday, July 15th and conclude on Friday, July 19 th , right before ComplexCon officially begins. “It was really important to use this platform to inspire the people watching us to do more for the community – not just in the spaces where ComplexCon will be hosted but in their own,” Russell said. “We’re really trying to make sure we’re bringing awareness to different organizations but also showing everyone that’s tuning in how they can get involved and stand up for the causes that matter to them.” ComplexCon Community Week will consist of a variety of events such as a Soup Kitchen Takeover in partnership with Jaden Smith, a STREETWEAR.EDU panel discussion hosted by Trinidad James and a small Chicago-style block party for A Night Out Against Gun Violence, an event that Russell believes will help shine a light on some of the initiatives that the Chicago based Save Money, Save Life Foundation already supports. “It’s really just about bringing awareness to the people that are here [in Chicago] and showing them how they can show up and support one another,” Russell explained. “I think when you’re looking at the news and you’re seeing all of these things happening, all these challenges in your own community, everyone wants to know how they can help and what can they do. Not everyone has those tools to just fix, or not everyone knows what to do to inspire the change. We wanted to use this platform at Community Week to provide that information.” As Community Week kicks off and ComplexCon Chicago grows closer, Clermont and Russell appear to be tackling everything with ease. These ladies are leading the charge on one of the biggest events for our culture in a male dominated industry– and are killing it. “I think this has been an incredible opportunity,” Clermont said. “Everything comes with its own challenges and I think for us to be in the positions that we’re in, have the ability to have a voice in the room and really help lead these things has been great.” In spite of the challenges that come with pulling off any successful event, the ladies both agree that working with such an amazing female-led ComplexCon team has been quite rewarding and inspiring. “It’s really cool to be on such a dynamic team of fearless women,” Russell said. “There’s a lot of pressure, especially in a new role where were creative something for the very first time, but there’s support here. And its support coming from other women, which is great. So, it makes my job easier.” With three successful ComplexCons already in the books, introducing the annual culture staple to the city of Chicago is right on time, as Clermont believes that Chicago’s culture is exactly what embodies the Complex brand. “We definitely feel that Chicago is a city that’s culturally important to us. They have a strong audience that is interested in the things that we’re putting together such as hip-hop, streetwear and sneaker culture.” Clermont also assured us that Chi-Town is definitely in for a treat this weekend as the ComplexCon Chicago team has a ton of surprises up their sleeves for the first ever event. “We’ve got a lot of surprises on the ground,” Clermont said. “It’s one of those things that you just have to be there for.
