Drake Covers The Fader’s 100th Issue, Talks 2015 Glo-Up, Becoming A Target, And Breaks His Silence On Meek Mill’s Twitter Fingers

Drake Covers The Fader Issue 100 In the latest issue of The Fader , Drizzy lets his beard flourish and talks about the joys of finding a new way to flow and how the material on If You’re Reading This really wasn’t quite as exciting for him as it seemed to be for the rest of the world. Drake also finally spoke for the first time on ending Meek Mill’s career addressing Meek in the studio two times to very little response… “I’m just gonna bring it up ‘cause it’s important to me,” he says. “I was at a charity kickball game—which we won, by the way—and my brother called me. He was just like, ‘I don’t know if you’re aware, but, yo, they’re trying to end us out here. They’re just spreading, like, propaganda. Where are you? You need to come here.’ So we all circled up at the studio, and sat there as Flex went on the air, and these guys flip-flopped [about how] they were gonna do this, that, and the third.” He recorded “Charged Up” that very night and released it the next day on the same episode of OVO Radio that saw the debut of “Hotline Bling.” “Given the circumstances, it felt right to just remind people what it is that I do,” Drake says, a proud smile creeping into his face, “in case your opinions were wavering at any point.” When a reply to “Charged Up” didn’t come, Drake could hardly believe it. “This is a discussion about music, and no one’s putting forth any music?” he says, speaking with a furrowed brow, as if reliving his incredulity. “You guys are gonna leave this for me to do? This is how you want to play it? You guys didn’t think this through at all—nobody? You guys have high-ranking members watching over you. Nobody told you that this was a bad idea, to engage in this and not have something? You’re gonna engage in a conversation about writing music, and delivering music, with me? And not have anything to put forth on the table?” And thus…Drake made the conscious decision to end it altogether and we were all blessed with “Back To Back.” It was then that he decided to just go ahead and do another song. “I was like, ‘I’m gonna probably just finish this.’ And I know how I have to finish it. This has to literally become the song that people want to hear every single night, and it’s gonna be tough to exist during this summer when everybody wants to hear [this] song that isn’t necessarily in your favor.” It’s cold in the 6, huh? Lady Gaga’s ‘Alejandro’: The Summer Jam Of 2010?

Song came out last fall, but video is on the way — and who would bet against Gaga? By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Interscope Records Sure, it’s from an album that came out last year, but that doesn’t mean you should bet against Lady Gaga’s “Alejandro” in the Summer Jam Sweepstakes . After all, there are about a million compelling reasons why it could very well be the biggest song on the beaches, chief among them this one: At this point, why bet against her? Yes, in her meteoric rise to the top of the pop world, there’s not much Gaga hasn’t accomplished, though a surefire summertime smash may be one of them. “Paparazzi” started picking up steam in the summer of 2009, but due mostly to scheduling, LG has yet to release a single during tanning season. Until now, that is. Because “Alejandro” is primed and ready as the third single from her massive Fame Monster album, and thanks to a high-profile (and slightly controversial) performance of the tune on “American Idol” and sure-to-be discussed video in the works (it’s due next month), it wouldn’t surprise us to see Gaga topping the charts this summer, which, by proxy, would all but cement the song as the official soundtrack to the bikini months. There’s plenty to love about the song, too: From the sparkling, slightly Spanish production work of frequent collaborator RedOne to the goofy accent Gaga adopts for the tune, it’s very much an over-the-top delight, and we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out just how much it reminds us of Madonna’s easy, breezy “La Isla Bonita,” which was a hit way back in the summer of ’87. And let’s face it: If there’s one song that will serve as the score to your summer-long fling with a dreamy-yet-slightly-distant exchange student (“I know that we are young, and I know that you may love me/ But I just can’t be with you like this anymore, Alejandro “), well, this is probably it. So while it faces some stiff competition — from the likes of Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” and the B.o.B/ Hayley Williams team-up “Airplanes” to name just two — “Alejandro” feels like a strong contender to become the song of summer 2010. And if/when it does, it’ll only further illustrate the fact that Lady Gaga can basically do anything. Like we said, why would you bet against her? Vote for the summer jam of 2010 in the MTV Newsroom now, and stay tuned all week for more on the hottest songs of the season. Related Videos Who Will Have The Song Of The Summer?
