General David Petraeus Tops ’10 Most Fascinating People of 2010′ List

Key player in guiding Afghanistan conflict beat out Justin Bieber, LeBron James on annual list. By Mawuse Ziegbe The cast of “Jersey Shore” on ABC’s “10 Most Fascinating People of 2010” special on Thursday Photo: ABC As Barbara Walters put it, her rundown of the year’s biggest movers and shakers, the “10 Most Fascinating People of 2010,” was definitely “eclectic.” After several revealing interviews with figures such as elderly “It” girl Betty White and the cast of MTV’s “Jersey Shore,” Walters and crew chose General David Petraeus as the most intriguing figure of the year for his role in the ongoing war in Afghanistan. Like last year, a Washington DC headline-maker topped the list, following First Lady Michelle Obama’s seat at the top spot in 2009 . Walters dubbed him “an American hero” for his efforts in the embattled region. However, most of the list was populated with stars known more for their ability to spark tabloid rumors instead of calm countries grappling with civil unrest. Octogenarian comedienne Betty White kicked off the list with a frank discussion of her 2010 spike in popularity, dubbing herself “overexposed.” The “Hot in Cleveland” star also spoke candidly about sex as she nears 90, proclaiming she gets busy if she “gets lucky!” Facebook founder and billionaire entrepreneur Mark Zuckerberg was also profiled in a segment that noted his push for the dissemination of information in his professional efforts is at odds with the mysterious personal front he shows the public. Justin Bieber let Walters know that not only is he down to cut his hair, he plans to chop it off in the near future. The teen sensation also chatted about his love life and getting punished by his mom if he steps out of line. The castmembers of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” gave Walters a crash course in fitting in on the shore, explaining the meaning of “grenades” and showing the legendary news anchor the proper way to pronounce “smushing.” Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock also sat down with Walters to discuss the amazing highs and devastating lows of a year marked by an avalanche of professional accolades and a highly publicized split from philandering biker hubby Jesse James. Newly minted “American Idol” judge Jennifer Lopez also made the list, chatting about being a fan of the amateur talent juggernaut before she joined the show and spending more time out of the limelight with her husband of six years, Marc Anthony. Miami Heat baller LeBron James and the unprecedented media circus that ushered in the NBA superstar’s announcement that he was switching teams were also featured. Future royal Kate Middleton was also profiled as the woman poised to make her mark as a princess when she marries Prince William next year. Alaska politician Sarah Palin candidly remarked that she would consider a presidential run if she felt she could get elected, and maintained assuredly that she could take on President Obama in a race for The White House.

Emmys Pay Homage To ‘Glee’ In Opening Number

Host Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Betty White and more join ‘Glee’ castmembers in song-and-dance routine to kick off awards show. By Jocelyn Vena Jane Lynch, Tina Fey, Joel McHale, Jimmy Fallon, Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer, Jorge Garcia, and Nina Dobrev perform onstage at the 2010 Emmy Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images The Emmy Awards kicked off on Sunday night (August 29) with a song-and-dance number inspired by the night’s breakout star: “Glee.” Having already nabbed a number of the ceremony’s nominations (and taking some of its early awards), the popular Fox seemed more than worthy of the props, as host Jimmy Fallon led a performance that included several “Glee” castmembers. The set-up: the cast of “Glee” wants to go to the awards show in Los Angeles, but they just can’t afford the pricey tickets. So, Fallon comes up with the perfect idea. The Gleeks should do what they do best — win a singing competition in order to earn the funds. With the help of some of TV’s biggest stars, including reality TV-mom Kate Gosselin, Betty White, Tina Fey, Jon Hamm, Nina Dobrev, Joel McHale and, of course, Fallon, the “Glee” crew got their song on with a stirring rendition of Bruce Springsteen’s classic “Born to Run.” Displaying the musical prowess that has made the series a viewer fave, the “Glee” gang — represented by Chris Colfer, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Lea Michele and Jane Lynch — took their act (and their TV co-stars) through a number of gags. Catching White and Don Draper hanging out in a dressing room (where the comedian urged Hamm, “C’mon, do the hippety-hop. Now back that mother up,” as she taught him some dance moves) and meeting up with Hurley himself, Jorge Garcia, on an escalator, were a few of the highlights. But those moments were only a precursor to the live, onstage dance number with Fallon in full-on Springsteen mode. Down to his white T-shirt, jeans, and red bandana, the host finished the crescendo of “Born to Run,” with some guitar assistance from “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson. And with that, Fallon’s idea proved to be a good one: The “Glee” castmembers had made it to the big show. What did you think of the Emmy Awards opening number? Tell us in the comments!
