Although the record-breaking heat caused 188 Ironman Triathlon competitors to quit Sunday’s race in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, nothing stopped blind veteran Scotty Smiley. The retired major crossed the finish line with his brother-in-law, Andy Cooper, at 10:20 p.m., after a 16-hour journey. Smiley told People Magazine, “There were so many times I just wanted to quit and give up. I just couldn’t see the end in sight.” Though Smiley couldn’t see his progress, he could hear his family behind him. His wife Tiffany rode her bike alongside him for half of the marathon. “It was amazing to hear them as I transitioned from the bike to the run – throughout the run just screaming my name,” Smiley said. “And then to be there to give my wife and my boys a hug, it was a great feeling.” In April 2005, Smiley lost his vision and was partially paralyzed in northern Iraq when a suicide car bomb went off and spewed shrapnel.

The former Newsradio star supposedly asked the victim if he could see it and the man, recognizing Dick, responded in the affirmative. Authorities say Dick then simply rode away with the item, which was later valued at $1,000. The man reported the crime and police arrested Dick when they found him on his bike near his home Friday night. The copes arrested Dick for grand theft and and he sat in jail until posting $25,000 bond Saturday morning. In addition to NewsRadio, Dick briefly had his own program on MTV and enjoyed roles in several movies. He also was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars last year. In January 2012, Dick was accused of battery against a tourist in Hollywood, while he also went on an Anti-Semitic rant in August 2011 and was arrested that same year for disorderly conduct. A 61-year-old Minnesota man is accused of pulling a gun on a neighbor who was teaching his seven-year-old daughter how to ride a bike … seriously. Gary Drake faces alleged second-degree assault and terroristic threat charges after he pointed a shotgun at his neighbor and threatened to kill him. The charges against Drake indicate that when observing the bike-riding lesson being administered, he began vocally critiquing the father’s tactics. Man Pulls Gun on Bike-Riding Neighbor, Daughter The father said, “I’ve got it.” That’s when Drake allegedly said, “If you don’t like my advice, get off my street.” The dad told Drake he “doesn’t own the street.” Drake appeared to get angrier and went inside his home, according to reports, but he wasn’t anywhere near done with this bike-riding nuisance. Reads the insane criminal complaint : “As the father and daughter were making their way away from Drake’s house, he came back outside with a shotgun and threatened to kill the father.” “Drake’s wife came outside, pulled the gun away and physically dragged Drake inside. Drake went outside again and told the father he was going to kill him.” When officers came and arrested Drake, he said, “Maybe next time I should have shot him.” He also said he had been drinking all day, but that didn’t influence him. Drake’s wife, for her part, told police he pointed a gun at the man and she tried to stop him. She gave up Drake’s shotgun to police, voluntarily. The father is still shaken by the encounter. Neighbors were surprised that Drake, a well-known neighbor, had threatened someone with a gun, FOX 9 reports. No word on what he specifically wanted the daughter to do differently regarding her bike, or whether she and the dad have adopted any of the pointers.

According to Mail Online A Vancouver woman who answered an ad for her stolen bike on Craigslist, turned the tables on thieves by asking to take it for a test ride and then pedaling off with it. Kayla Smith reported the theft of the $1,000 bike to police on Wednesday after it went missing, along with its heavy duty lock, at the Olympic Village. But she took justice into her own hands as soon as she saw it being offered for $300 the next day. ‘THIS GUY IS SELLING MY BIKE RIGHT NOW!!!’ she wrote in a post to Reddit. ‘I am not missing this opportunity waiting for a call. So I jump into action.’ ‘I called the guy up, totally played super sweet,’ the bartender told the Globe and Mail. ‘Was like, “Hi, how are you? You know, I have the day off today, why don’t I come meet you?’” The alleged thief agreed and they set up a time to meet at McDonalds so she could see the bike. As soon as she laid eyes on it, she knew it was hers. Ms Smith had added distinctive custom features to her bike, including special brakes. ‘I noticed that it was my bike right away because of the RIDE ON stickers on the frame,’ Ms Smith wrote. ‘Here is where I started thinking on my feet.’ She told CBC News the man claimed to have bought it from his housemate, which made her think: ‘No you didn’t.
