TRAILER: Could Passion Play Be the Megan Fox/Mickey Rourke Trainwreck You’ve Been Waiting for?

After a troubled, 20-year road from script-development to screen, Passion Play is coming to select theaters. Then, just in case you blink, it will hit DVD three weeks later . Word of mouth out of Toronto was that the film was a disaster, and the theater-to-DVD release window pretty much backs that up. But after watching the trailer, I can’t help but wonder: Can a film with Mickey Rourke falling in love with an angel played by Megan Fox while trying not to get killed by Bill Murray be totally worthless?

HBO Sets April 23 as Premiere Date for Cinema Verite

Looks like it might be time to re-subscribe to HBO. The network announced on Thursday that Cinema Verite — the awesome-looking ’70s period piece about the dawn of reality television with James Gandolfini, Diane Lane and Tim Robbins in leading roles — will premiere on Saturday, April 23. It’s not TV, etc.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day With 9 of the Most Fun Movie Drunks

For some of you, March 17 is just another work day but for the Irish (and the Irish at heart), it’s an excuse to wear head-to-toe green, blackout on cheap beer, and down enough Irish car bombs to either get you arrested for disorderly conduct or send you to the E.R. — just like the patron saint of Ireland would want. With quitting time here and a night of debauchery ahead, let’s remember nine film drunks would could liven up St. Patty’s.

Serpent Eats Its Own Tail: A Ghostbusters 3 Development Timeline

At this point, you might have an easier time indexing every bit of information in the latest WikiLeaks cables than sifting through the last 10-plus years of rumors surrounding Ghostbusters 3 . And then, today news hits that the movie is indeed still in development, but not confirmed for production because… Bill Murray hasn’t signed on yet. Okay, so Aykroyd’s on the radio reassuring everyone about the sequel and Murray’s keeping his distance. Has anything at all changed since the beginning of this ridiculously over-hyped and probably unnecessary project? Just to double check, I waded through pages of old news and rumors to construct some sort of working timeline about the film’s development. Might want to take a painkiller in advance for this post.

Which Famous Men Have Inspired Sofia Coppola’s Lead Characters?

While there is not much confusion about (or variation among) the themes Sofia Coppola has explored in her four feature films, she has encountered some speculation and rumor-mongering about the inspiration for some of her male characters. Continuing this trend, Coppola has recently copped to basing Somewhere ‘s disillusioned actor (played by Stephen Dorff) on a collection of famous actors, including one Coppola family member. In honor of this acknowledgment, Movieline reviews the famous men from whom Sofia gleaned both alleged and admitted inspiration the past decade.

Dan Aykroyd Confirms Ghostbusters 3 Rumors

Speaking to WGN Radio Chicago, Dan Aykroyd threw some fuel to the Ghostbusters 3 fires, confirming that not only is the new movie already casting, but there a lot of “strong possiblities” being considered. Along with the return of Sigourney Weaver and Bill Murray, Aykroyd revealed that they’ve also been looking at Bill Hader (great!), Anna Faris (yay!) and Eliza Dushku (must we?). While part of me is buoyed by a return to the Ghostbusters world, the part of me that saw the last Indiana Jones movie is wary of film franchises that return after a long, dormant period. [ /Film ]

Passion Play Duo Mitch Glazer and Kelly Lynch on Their 20-Year Road to Toronto

So the winged woman-meets-jazz trumpeter romantic fable Passion Play premiered Friday night here in Toronto, and say what you will about the headscrather of a story, the vision of Mickey Rourke in a love scene with Megan Fox — with wings — or Bill Murray’s hairpiece-aided deadpan gangster cutthroat. But nearly two decades after screenwriter Mitch Glazer began developing his directing debut (inspired in part by his wife, actress Kelly Lynch), it’s ultimate realization — with this cast on this stage all at once — prompts one to ask what’s worth waiting 20 years for? I mean, even Avatar only took 12 or so. Glazer and Lynch met Movieline this weekend to discuss.

Bill Murray Craps on Ghostbusters 3 Once Again

Bill Murray has been so publicly dismissive about the mere possibility of Ghostbusters 3 — remember when he called it his ” nightmare ?” — that it’s hard to believe he hasn’t just burned his old costume in effigy at this point. In fact, based on his latest round of “let me cut this project off at the knees” quotes, it feels like the best way for Murray to get whatever revenge he’s looking for would be to simply appear in the sequel, cash his big check and put in as much effort as he did on Charlie’s Angels .
