Moonrise Kingdom Cast Gathers For Frowny ‘Vintage Team Photo’

You’ve seen the trailer . You’ve parsed the poster . Now study in the stern countenances awaiting you in Moonrise Kingdom , Wes Anderson’s Cannes-opening reverie for which a new “vintage team photo” is making the rounds. To my knowledge, this is the first and probably only time we’ll get Anderson’s ensemble — including Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Frances McDormand, Edward Norton and the young campers of New Penzance Island — in one place before the film hits theaters next month. Except for Tilda Swinton, I guess; “Social Services” just gets a picture frame. And Snoopy R.I.P.? Nooo! Whatever. It’s better Photoshop than this . [Click for bigger; via Focus Features] Follow S.T. Ghostbusters 3 in the Works, Without Bill Murray?

Who you gonna call? Not Bill Murray. Ghostbusters 3 is being actively pursued by writer / star Dan Aykroyd, but his co-star does not want any part of it apparently. The Ghostbusters retired ages ago, after a 1984 hit film, 1989 sequel, and two animated TV shows. But talk of another film has been rekindled of late. In a webcast with Empire magazine, Dan Aykroyd implied he and co-star Rick Moranis were actively working to bring Ghostbusters 3 to theaters. “If we can get the script to ‘Ghostbusters 3’ right, then it would definitely have Moranis as a major component,” said Aykroyd of the potential project. “None of us would want to do the movie without having him as a participant.” He also responded to questions that another star, Bill Murray, wasn’t into the idea, denying reports that Murray actually shredded a potential script. Murray also allegedly said “No one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts.” Replied Dan, “Bill Murray is not capable of such behavior.” “This is simply something that would not be in his nature. It’s not true. We have a deep, private personal relationship that transcends business.” “We communicate frequently and his position on the involvement in Ghostbusters 3 has been made clear and I completely respect that.” So no script shredding but no interest either. Tough to say what a Ghostbusters movie would be like without Murray. What do you think?

Here is a Trailer For a New Wes Anderson Movie

It is called Moonrise Kingdom and I have nothing to really say about it except that I’m somewhat intrigued by Anderson’s discovery of the handheld camera and the unusual (for Anderson, anyway) 1.85:1 aspect ratio and that I wish it were Meryl Streep with that bullhorn instead of Frances McDormand; she was so infectious in Fantastic Mr. Fox and I want to see her and Anderson collaborate in live-action. And… and… Cool treehouse? I don’t know. Your turn.

First Look: Bill Murray is FDR in Hyde Park on Hudson

The first image of Bill Murray as Franklin Delano Roosevelt has emerged from the behind the scenes of Hyde Park on Hudson , director Roger Michell’s tale of the great president’s royal visitors (and concurrent extramarital dalliance) in 1939. “”I wouldn’t have done it without him,” said Michell of the long “dance” to get Murray. “But after a year of waiting, I received a wonderful text that said, ‘Yes, I’ll do it.'” And here you have it. Chime in with your thoughts after a browse through the rest of today’s Buzz Break.

Video: Bill Murray Might Rather Conduct Harvard’s Marching Band Than Read a Ghostbusters 3 Script

We may not know whether Bill Murray will reprise his role of Peter Venkman in the highly anticipated, highly rumored Ghostbusters 3 but we do know that the notoriously reclusive actor will spontaneously conduct an Ivy League marching band if the Ghostbusters theme song is in their set list. Video evidence from last weekend’s Harvard-Cornell game follows.

Happy 61st Birthday, Bill Murray! What’s His Most Underrated Moment?

Though I like arguing on behalf of underrated performers ( Melanie Griffith , for example), sometimes it’s more fun to commemorate our indisputably great actors. Bill Murray is the ne plus ultra of deadpan comic delivery — salty as the Dead Sea, dry as Death Valley, and great in almost everything. He’s 61 today, which means it’s our duty to shine light upon his more underrated moments in movies. What’s your pick?

The Artist Trailer: Silent Starpower

Cannes favorite The Artist looks flashy and frothy, but that combination is perfect for Michel Hazanavicius’s sumptuous melodrama (in theaters Sept. 23) set in old Hollywood. It’s chock-full of Errol Flynn mustaches, Marcel waves, mink stoles, and the kind of magnificent Tinseltown excesses that killed everyone on E!’s Mysteries and Scandals . The new English trailer is available in HD, but let’s watch the French version to feel smart, shall we?

Dan Aykroyd Hopes Ghostbusters 3 Production Will Start ‘In the Spring’

As it turns out, the best place to get Dan Aykroyd to discuss the possibility of Ghostbusters 3 is on the radio. Like the he did previously on Chicago’s WGN radio last November , Aykroyd decided to fan the Ghostbusters flames over the air, this time with Dennis Miller. So! Is the mythical third film happening? Is Bill Murray going to appear? Who will star as the young Ghostbusters? What happened to the original Ghostbusters?
