Album Sales Plummet for Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus has been tamed again. After an incredibly disappointing opening week of sales for “Can’t Be Tamed,” fans of this young singer said to wait. It’s just been a few days , they cried! Give the album time! A week later, though, the compilation is barely holding a place in the Billboard 200’s top 10. With Eminem’s “Recovery” still holding strong at number-one (with 313,000 copies sold), Miley’s CD fell six places to number-nine, selling just 32,000 copies. That’s an astounding 68% drop-off from last week. By comparison, Miley’s 2008 “Breakout” sold 1.5 million copies and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. There’s very little chance “Can’t Be Tamed” will achieve half that level of success. Does this mean Miley has lost a significant amount of her fan base? There’s no other way to see it. Numbers speak for themselves. Perhaps she should go to college , after all. They have marketing classes there.

Eminem Talks ‘Recovery,’ Touring Sober

‘Everything right now is a step at a time,’ the MC tells ‘Billboard.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem on the cover of Billboard Photo: Billboard Eminem graces the cover of the new issue of Billboard . In the accompanying interview, the Detroit rapper discusses his struggle to return to rap dominance after a five-year hiatus to combat his drug dependency. Last year he returned with Relapse , an uneven collection that at its best lucidly detailed the depths of his battle and at its worst came across as hackneyed. On the recently released Recovery , Eminem decided to return to to his earlier work for inspiration. “I would go back and listen to songs off The Marshall Mathers LP , The Eminem Show , and some of Encore and ask, ‘Why don’t my music feel like this anymore?’ ” Em said. “”‘The Way I Am,’ ‘Criminal’ and ‘Toy Soldiers’ were songs that meant something. I wanted there to be a reason why I was making each song, instead of making it just to make it.” During the recording of his two albums prior to Recovery , Em said, he was either in full-blown addiction mode ( Encore ) or so freshly sober ( Relapse ) that he was unable to focus correctly on the material he made. “I was like, ‘S—, man, trees are beautiful again,’ ” Em said, describing the way he viewed the world during the making of Relapse . “‘What a nice day it is.’ I don’t think I was paying attention to what the average listener might like or not like.” Em said that he now wants to focus on earning the praise of his peers and die-hard fans with Recovery . Then, he’ll focus on hitting the road. He’s set to appear at music festivals both abroad and in the United States this summer, and he’s playing shows with Jay-Z in Detroit and New York in September. But the superstar MC is cautious about returning to a major touring schedule. “I’ll do these shows and see how I feel afterward, then set up a couple more,” he said. “I’ve had to relearn to do shows sober, because there were so many years that I didn’t know how to do it. Alcohol, Valium — all these things were crutches for me so that I didn’t have to feel anything when I went onstage. Everything right now is a step at a time, a day at a time.” Are you going to see Eminem perform soon? Sound off in the comments below! Related Photos The Evolution Of: Eminem Related Artists Eminem

Miley Cyrus in Billboard: I’ve Grown Up a Lot

In a Billboard cover story, Miley Cyrus sounds both mature and cocky. First, she admits that she’s come a long way since she auditioned for Hannah Montana at the age of 12: “I’m just at a certain place where I’ve changed a lot as a person. I’ve grown up a lot, which everyone does.” That’s certainly true, but not everyone talks about her music as if it’s full of heart, soul and profound meaning that simply can’t be found in the pop world. Check out how Cyrus describes her upcoming album: “I listen to zero pop music, which is really weird for someone who makes pop music. My 13-year-old self would have beaten up my 17-year-old self because she would be like, ‘You’re a sellout!’ But that’s not what it is. “It’s not dance music that’s just about, ‘Ooh, I’m in the club and everyone’s looking at me.’ It means something. I’m not just sitting here trying to sell glitz and glamour… because no one lives that life. A lot of [pop] songs are super shallow, but this music isn’t.” Actually, Miles, your music is EXACTLY like that. The lyrics to “Can’t Be Tamed” include these lines: Have to get my way/24 hours a day/‘Cause I’m hot like that/Every guy everywhere just gives me mad attention… That’s more super shallow than most kiddie pools.

Adam Lambert to American Idol Producer: No Struggles Here!

Awhile back, we got into a tiff with Adam Lambert fans because we told them to ” chill out .” We argued that their over-the-top support of this singer, their rush to defend him at all times, was condescending and sometimes unnecessary. Adam is a big boy, we reasoned, he can take care of himself when the time calls for it. Very recent case in point: after American Idol producer Ken Warwick said he hopes Lambert’s appearance on the show this week helps the singer’s “struggling” career, Adam replied on his own. While acknowledging how “sweet” this sentiment is, Adam told Entertainment Weekly : “I don’t feel like I’m struggling at all. I think things are right where they need to be. My single ‘What Do You Want From Me,’ is just breaking into the Top 10 right now.” It’s true. The song, which Adam will perform live tonight on Idol , is currently at number-13 on Billboard’s Pop chart, and number-23 on the Billboard Hot 100. What did Adam think of his experience as a mentor? “I’m really glad that they had me on the show,” he said. “I really enjoyed helping the other contestants… It was a trip being out there. My mom was sitting next to me tonight, and she was like, ‘This is what it used to be like for us! We used to sit here and we got so nervous and we’d be chewing our gum really hard and we’d be going Oh god, I hope he does a good job!‘” Below, watch a clip of Lambert giving advice to Lee DeWyze… who

Katie Stevens Makes ‘Let It Be’ Her Own On ‘American Idol’

‘You’re blossoming,’ Kara DioGuardi tells the Connecticut teen during Lennon/McCartney week. By Larry Carroll Katie Stevens performs on “American Idol” Tuesday Photo: Fox It’s one of the most famous songs of all time, and the lyrics are instantly recognizable to anyone from Dallas to Dubai. But Tuesday night (April 6) on “American Idol,” one of the contestants made “Let It Be” her own. Wearing a short pink dress with her hair pulled back, Connecticut’s Katie Stevens broke out of the “Idol” top-nine episode with a somber rendition of the 30-year-old song. Following a thunderous response from the audience — which included her family, holding an “I love my family because they love Katie Stevens” sign — the judges unanimously gushed over Stevens’ heart-tugging vocals. “That was your best performance ever,” Randy Jackson beamed, praising the song that Katie said her father used to play for her in the car. “That was ridiculous.” Ellen DeGeneres, meanwhile, praised her for “changing it just enough without disrespecting the song,” while Kara DioGuardi agreed, saying, “You make the song your own. You’re blossoming.” “It felt, to me, that you were singing it about somebody rather than being robotic,” Simon Cowell agreed. “And that’s a big difference.” Paul McCartney certainly wasn’t being robotic when he recorded “Let It Be” in early 1969 for the release of the same-named album that marked the Beatles’ final effort. Recorded during a period of rapidly increasing acrimony between the members of the world’s greatest rock band, McCartney has said that he was inspired to write the song after a calming dream about his mother Mary — who had died of cancer when he was 14 — during the tense period of his life. Ranked #20 on Rolling Stone ‘s 2004 list of the 500 greatest songs of all time, “Let It Be” reached #1 on the Billboard charts in April 1970. In perhaps the latest great testament to its legacy, “Let It Be” has become an “Idol” favorite: Brooke White performed it in season seven, while Kris Allen put his unique spin on the song during a recent results show.
