The content on the horizon includes a range of scripted and unscripted projects for a wide range of audiences, as well as full-length features and documentaries. Priya Swaminathan and Tonia Davis–the co-heads of the organization–revealed the news on Tuesday, announcing seven projects that are in different stages of development to be released over the next several years. You can check out descriptions of the upcoming projects below: “American Factory” was acquired by Netflix in association with Higher Ground Productions out of the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Directing Award for U.S. Documentary. The film takes a deep dive into a post-industrial Ohio, where a Chinese billionaire opens a new factory in the husk of an abandoned General Motors plant and hires 2,000 blue-collar Americans. “Bloom” is a drama series set in the world of fashion in post-WWII New York City that depicts barriers faced by women and by people of color in an era characterized by both hurdles and progress. Higher Ground is also producing a feature film adaptation of author David W. Blight’s “Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom,” for which he won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize in History. Adapted from the New York Times’ obituary column Overlooked, telling the stories of remarkable people whose deaths were not reported by the newspaper, Higher Ground is developing “Overlooked” as a scripted anthology series with producers Liza Chasin of 3dot Productions and Joy Gorman Wettels of Anonymous Content. For family programming, “Listen to Your Vegetables & Eat Your Parents” will be a half-hour preschool series from creators Jeremy Konner (“Drunk History”) and Erika Thormahlen. The International News reports that a woman named Xiaoli struggled to breathe while watching “Avengers: Endgame” this weekend. Xialoi was reportedly so overwhelmed by the movie that she had to be taken to a hospital because she was hyperventilating. Her doctor spoke with The International News about the incident: “I saw that the patient had been breathing heavily, and according to the description from her peers, we thought that she her crying had caused ‘hyperventilation’. We immediately gave her oxygen and relaxed her emotions by appeasement, reducing her hyperventilation symptoms.” The distraught young woman has since been released. The movie did have some very emotional moments; but was it that serious??? Were you distraught too by “Avengers: Endgame”???

Source: Simon McGill / Getty Family Of 11 Raises Over $138,000 After Their Mother Loses Battle With Cancer Fox 2 Detroit recently reported about the death of 44-year-old Rashida Lawson who had become sick and was taken to the hospital. There, doctors discovered that she had stage 4 breast cancer and just a week later she, unfortunately, passed away, leaving behind 11 kids ranging from ages 4 to 23 years old. The family created a GoFundMe account to raise money for their mother’s burial and funeral expenses and reached their goal of $100,000. However, after the world got wind of the family’s story, donations kept pouring in as many people became eager to help out and the GoFundMe campaign ballooned to $138,405 in donations for the family. Although the money will help out in some regards, the family admits that they still have some financial struggles and are trying to cope with the loss of their mother as they try to pick up the pieces where their mother left off. Source: JazzIRT / Getty Man Punches 4-Month Old Baby To Death After Discovering He Wasn’t The Father According to Fox 13 Memphis , Jose Agurcia-Avila was arrested by Memphis police and charged with first-degree murder after punching a 4-month old baby. Avila reportedly became upset after learning the child, Alexander Lizondro-Chacon, wasn’t his. Cops say Avila punched the child so hard that the baby was left unresponsive when the mother returned home. The child was rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis but was pronounced dead upon arrival. An autopsy revealed the baby died from blunt force trauma and his death was ruled a homicide. The medical examiner concluded that the boy’s injuries were a fractured skull, fractured rib and a serious case of pneumonia. The boy’s mother told police that Avila confessed. The 33-year-old is charged with first-degree murder in perpetration of aggravated child abuse and first-degree murder in perpetration of aggravated child neglect.
