Source: NBC / Getty Mindy Kaling Discusses The TV Academy’s Attempt To Discredit Her Mindy Kaling caused quite the stir this week when she accused the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences of singling her out back on her days working on The Office . The actress, writer, and producer nearly missed out on being nominated for an Emmy almost a decade ago for her work on The Office . This is because The Academy–which runs the awards show–reportedly tried to cut her from the list of the show’s producers, Kaling told Elle . Not only was Minday one of the stars of the hit NBC series, which ended in 2013, she was also one of the writers and a co-producer. During this time, s he was also the only woman of color among the producers listed in Emmy contention, which is what led to her being singled out. According to Kaling, The Academy told her there were too many producers listed when the show was nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Comedy Series category. “They made me, not any of the other producers, fill out a whole form and write an essay about all my contributions as a writer and a producer,” she revealed. “I had to get letters from all the other male, white producers saying that I had contributed, when my actual record stood for itself.” After these revelations made headlines, an Academy spokesperson denied her claims, saying the following: “No one person was singled out. There was an increasing concern years ago regarding the number of performers and writers seeking producer credits,” according to a statement to CNN and other news outlets . “At the time the Producers Guild worked with the Television Academy to correctly vet producer eligibility. Every performer producer and writer producer was asked to justify their producer credits. As previously reported Cassie and her trainer bae Alex Fine tied the knot in September after Cassie moved on from her 10-year Diddyship. Now Cassie (who’s pregnant with her first child) is posting pics from her Malibu nuptials and sharing details with VOGUE . According to Cassie she and Alex debated whether or not to get engaged before or after their baby came but ultimately decided on before. Cassie also told VOGUE that Alex surprised her with his proposal that he did alongside the Compton Cowboys. “I knew that Alex was designing a ring, but I honestly wasn’t expecting a super elaborate proposal because we already had the wedding date set, but he planned such a beautiful experience for me. I was so surprised!” He told me to come ready because we were driving straight to dinner to celebrate my birthday early that night as my family was coming into town,” she remembers. “I was running a little late, so he called me to check in.” Cassie pulled up just before the sun went down, and Compton Cowboys leader Randy Savvy came out front to welcome her with flowers. “At that point, I got so nervous, but was also really excited.” She also told VOGUE that they had less than 20 people at their nuptials and explained the process of finding her dress while pregnant. She wanted the dress to feel romantic but comfortable for what she describes as her “intimate backyard wedding.” They did billowy, off-the-shoulder sleeves for romance and a high slit for movement. “When it came to this moment in my life, I knew that [it was] the easier the better for me,” she says. “We chose to create the lace veil to give it a touch of the classic.” She then paired it all with Jimmy Choo shoes and simple studs. The groom wore Musika styled by Paris Libby, while all of the male guests were in black tuxes and the women were asked to wear cream. The couple’s ceremony was performed by close friend and director Peter Berg, the man behind the hit series Friday Night Lights and the newlyweds did their first dance to “Tennessee Whiskey” before ordering heart-shaped pizza. Polaris Hosts Test Drive In Southwest Oregon The southwest coast of Oregon is full of pine tree forests that stretch down to the ocean, sand dunes that go on as far as the eye can see and coastline that is so picturesque that it looks like it came out of a storybook. And it was the perfect backdrop for a three-day trip to test drive Polaris’ newest fleet of off-road and specialty vehicles. The vehicle maker invited a select group of media and tastemakers (like Snoop Dogg’s son Cordell Broadus and social media star Mapy) to test the new Slingshot – a three-wheeled convertible-style roadster, and the Rzr – a four-wheeled off-road vehicle – among the natural splendor. After checking into our hotel, the Inn At Fifth in Eugene, we spent the afternoon getting to know each other and getting outfitted with Polaris gear to get us ready to drive. We first arrived at the Spinreel Dune Buggy & ATV Rental in North Bend, where after a safety check, we piled into our Rzr’s and set out for the sand dunes. Cruising the dunes in the Rzr was a blast – especially riding the four-wheeler all the way up a dune and then careening down it. After a lunch of local Dungeness Crab at the Coos History Museum, we got into our Slingshots for the final drive of the day. The two-seater resembled a cross between the Batmobile and a motorcycle, and the convoy of our Slingshots driving through the streets and highways along the state’s coast turned heads wherever we went. Riding in the open air Slingshot with the music blasting was simply exhilarating. No wonder celebs like Chris Brown are fans. Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty We ended our trip by driving the Slingshots to the Heceta Head Lighthouse – a scenic spot that had its own beach – where put our feet in the water and snapped a group photo. This reporter had never experienced – or even considered – off-roading or specialty vehicles before, but after this trip, we realized that it can be an exciting soft adventure for the whole family and a thrilling way to see the country.
