Columbus Short Released From Jail 11 Months Early Columbus Short is a free man this week, after completing just a twelfth of his jail sentence. If you’ll recall, Columbus pled no contest to charges that he hit his newlywed fourth wife, Aida Abramyan, during an argument. The actor was sentenced to 36 months probation and domestic violence education. However, since he was already on probation for a 2014 violent encounter in a bar, resulting in him knocking a man out, so he was instead sentenced to a year in jail for violating his probation. Well, according to TMZ , Columbus can thank jail overcrowding for his freedom. He was reportedly released on Monday from the L.A. County Jail, after serving only 34 days of his sentence. We guess it’s just as well, since his wife denies that anything violent ever happened between them. The media needs to check their facts!!…Columbus and I have a great marriage. Period. In 2015, Roses in Concrete Community School opened in East Oakland, California. With a name inspired by a book of poetry written by Tupac Shakur , the school aims to create a model for urban education that prioritizes the needs of youth and families in the community it serves. It’s founder, Dr. Jeff Duncan-Andrade , believes education is the way to help young people understand that they can transform not only their community, but the world. By creating the conditions for our youngest change-makers to flourish, this education model can be a pathway to building healthy and sustainable communities across the U.S. In the school’s first year, Google.org provided $750,000 to help launch its unique vision. And last Friday at Google’s San Francisco community space , teachers, students, artists, education advocates, Googlers and Oakland-native actress Zendaya celebrated the announcement of our additional $650,000 grant to help the school build a first-of-its-kind computer science (CS) curriculum , which will serve as a model for other schools across the U.S. The curriculum will be culturally and community relevant, building on Duncan-Andrade’s philosophy that education shouldn’t push students out of communities, but should instead help students transform them. Research shows that Black and Latino students are interested in learning CS , but are underrepresented in the field due to limited access to learning opportunities, coupled with the lack of relatable role models. Through this new program, Roses in Concrete helps students see the connection between CS and their communities, and hopes to equip them with the skills they need to solve real problems, starting in their own neighborhood. “The purpose of education is not to escape poverty, but to end it.” – Dr. Jeff Duncan-Andrade, Founder of Roses in Concrete Community School During the evening’s events, Roses students shared dance, art, and poetry performances for the crowd, which included Zendaya, an avid supporter of the school. Growing up in Oakland as the daughter of two teachers, she has fond memories of spending time in the same classrooms that now make up the Roses in Concrete campus , and credits pretending to grade papers as some of her earliest acting experience. During a student-led interview, Zendaya shared her appreciation for organizations like this progressive community school that are thoughtfully closing equity divides in her hometown. She encouraged the students to “Always lead with your heart and chase the happiness that fuels you,” and reminded them that technology is one possible medium for them to express themselves and make a positive difference. As a lab school, Roses in Concrete will share this new curriculum with national school leaders, policy makers and researchers. And alongside Roses, we can identify more ways to provide meaningful CS experiences to students of color, and by doing so, provide pathways for them to grow, thrive, and create change—in their own communities, and around the world. Donald Trump, Jr. Affair With Aubrey O’Day Revealed Another day, another scandal for the sad reality show that is the current White House . Today’s saga involves Donald Trump’s oldest son, Donald Trump, Jr., his pending divorce to his wife of 12 years Vanessa, and how the President’s former reality show played a role in getting him some outside azz…namely that of former Bad Boy artist Aubrey O’day . As a friend close to Aubrey told Us Weekly , Donald, Jr. was selling the once-upon-a-time pop star all kinds of dreams while they were on the set of Celebrity Apprentice years back, and eventually charmed his way into her Danity Kane drawls while his pregnant wife sat at home none the wiser: “Things started up with Aubrey and Don Jr. toward the end of the taping. When it started, they were very serious all of a sudden. He told her it was over with his wife, that they were separated and he didn’t love her — all of that stuff…Aubrey fell for him hard. She thought they were going to be together for real.” This all took place around the end of 2011 and went on throughout the Winter. But fast forward to March 2012…and Junior supposedly changed his tune when his wife found e-mails between her husband and Aubrey, pretty much confirming their extramarital activities. Needless to say, he let Aubrey know she had to kick rocks while he mended fences with his wife and tended to his (then) three children. It doesn’t appear that anything further went on between Aubrey and Donald, Jr. after their brief affair, and he and his wife Vanessa went on to have two more kids. But something clearly tipped Vanessa off the deep end much more recently, as she filed for divorce just days ago. SMH. Of course, we’re doubting that Aubrey was his only dalliance over the years. 9-Year-Old Boy Reportedly Kills Sister Over Video Game This is so sad. An unnamed teenage girl was rushed to the hospital yesterday in the Arberdeen area of Mississippi after a fight with her brother over a video game turned lethal . According to local news outlets , the 9-year-old boy shot his 13-year-old sister in the back of the head. Their mother was reportedly in the next room feeding their siblings lunch where it happened. the injured teen was rushed to Le Bonheur’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis fight for her life. Hours later, she died from her injuries. Authorities say they don’t yet know how the boy got the gun. The circumstances are still being investigated.
