Prince Has Passed Away At The Age Of 57 We can’t believe this is real. Legendary artist Prince has passed away at the age of 57 according to TMZ reports: Prince’s body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early Thursday morning. The singer — full name Prince Rogers Nelson — had a medical emergency on April 15th that forced his private jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois. But he appeared at a concert the next day to assure his fans he was okay. His people told TMZ he was battling the flu. Prior to his most recent appearance however, Prince had cancelled two shows due to health concerns. Prince became an international superstar in 1982 after his breakthrough album “1999. He went on to churn out a ton of hits — and racking up 7 Grammys in the process. He also performed at the Super Bowl in 2007 … in one of the greatest live performances of all time. He also sold more than 100 million records during his career … and the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for Purple Rain in 1985. We are truly at a loss of words right now. SMH… Texas Pastor Says Whole Foods Wrote Homophobic Slur On Cake An openly gay pastor and founder of a Texas church says he was targeted at Whole Foods after a bakery employee allegedly wrote the homophobic slur “f***t” on his cake. The New York Daily News reports: A Texas man claims he got a taste of hate in the form of a Whole Foods cake with a homophobic slur on it. Austin pastor Jordan Brown filed a lawsuit against the grocery chain Monday alleging he asked a bakery employee to write “Love Wins” on a pre-frosted cake last Thursday and was shocked when he peered inside the box’s clear top at a stoplight and saw “Love Wins F–” instead. “This is discrimination,” Brown says in a video posted online Monday by his law firm. In the video, the openly gay founder of the Church of Open Doors displays the cake with its offensive blue lettering tucked inside a box sealed with an unbroken Whole Foods sticker. Brown says the intact seal and his receipt from the flagship Austin store prove his story. In a statement to the Daily News, Whole Foods denied its bakery employee had any role in writing the bigoted block lettering. “The team member wrote ‘Love Wins’ at the top of the cake as requested by the guest and that’s exactly how the cake was packaged and sold at the store,” the company said, adding it has a “zero tolerance policy for discrimination.” Brown’s lawyer called the statement “outrageous.” “My client doesn’t have blue icing in his house. This is not a hoax. He received the cake this way, and Whole Foods’ response doesn’t help us,” lawyer Austin Kaplan told The News. SMH…surely this man of the cloth isn’t making up a story for a lawsuit riiiiight??? Whole Foods is now threatening to take action against him. What do YOU think about this Whole Foods controversy???

Akai Gurley’s Killer Will Not Face Jail Time After “accidentally” shooting Akai Gurley as he walked home — simply because he couldn’t see who was coming around the corner — a judge has ruled that convicted killer Peter Liang will not face any prison time. Instead, Liang was sentenced to six months house arrest, 500 hours of community service and five years’ probation. Via NYDN : The rookie cop convicted of killing an unarmed black man in the stairwell of a Brooklyn housing project won’t spend even one night in jail for the crime. “This is bull—-! The system is f—ed up,” one spectator snapped after Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun sentenced Peter Liang to five years’ probation and 800 hours of community service for the fatal shooting of Akai Gurley. “Akai’s life doesn’t matter,” Gurley’s aunt, Hertencia Petersen, fumed. “Another black man has been murdered by the hands of the Police Department. And the officer is not being held accountable.” Outside the courthouse, scores of angry protesters chanted “The whole damn system is guilty as hell!” At the same time, about 100 of the cop supporters yelled “Justice for Liang!” The mild-mannered Liang showed little emotion when he learned his fate – or when he pleaded his case to the judge, saying he regretted the “devastation” he caused when his gun went off in the dimly lit stairwell. “I was in shock. I could barely breathe. The shot was accidental, but someone was dead,” he said. “My life is forever changed. I hope I have a chance to rebuild it.” So an officer can shoot a Black man dead for simply walking home to his own apartment and face not a single day of jail time? Clearly it is open season on African Americans as far as the police force is concerned… NYDN

Houston Flooded With Record Rainfall Houston, Texas is currently facing record level rainfall, resulting in dangerous driving conditions and flooding throughout the city . So far, five deaths have been reported as a result of the weather anomaly. Via NBCnews : More than a foot of rain deluged parts of Houston on Monday, leaving five dead as surging waters flooded homes and highways for thousands of residents who were warned to stay inside. Gov. Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster in nine counties, hundreds of flights were canceled, mass transit was shut down and schools were closed after a season’s worth of rain fell in just a matter of hours. Almost 17 inches of rain had inundated the city by 2 p.m. ET. Bush Intercontinental Airport grappled with nearly 650 flight cancellations and more than 1,100 delays. METRO Houston also suspended all rail and bus services, as swaths of the city and nearby Waller County were walloped with 16.8 inches of rain before noon, according to the National Weather Service. Jeff Lindner, a meteorologist with the Harris County Flood Control District, warned of a “life-threatening situation” due to flash flooding developing in northwest Harris County. “Stay where you are,” Lindner added.
