Cheyenne Floyd has some news to share, everyone! Yep, the newest Teen Mom (Bristol Palin doesn't count and Jenelle Evans' replacement hasn't been officially announced yet) was sweet enough to have a little chit chat with us about her life. Specifically, her love life. Fans will know that she's been dating a new guy for a while now, but that she's been super private about it all. Well, not anymore! 1. We See You! So Cheyenne is dating someone. We know that much because she’s said so. 2. Nope And no, it’s not Cory Wharton — they’re still rocking the co-parenting thing without having a romantic relationship. 3. Interesting All the way back in February, Cheyenne revealed that she was dating someone that she was “super happy” with. 4. Fair Enough She explained that “I don’t want to reveal any details about them right now as we’re enjoying keeping things private.” 5. Oh, OK She added that “When the time is right. I will tell.” 6. Not So Fast But a month later, she was still being secretive about her new relationship. View Slideshow
Okay, so after years of hype, winter never really came to Westeros — but did it show up at a Malibu plastic surgeon’s office instead? Yes, that’s our extremely lame way of introducing the latest round of Ariel Winter plastic surgery accusations. Interest in Ariel’s sitcom may be dwindling as Modern Family wraps up its 47th season, but on social media, the actress’ influence continues to grow. Unfortunately, accumulating 4 million Instagram followers means being subject to a LOT of scrutiny, and because social media in 2019 is basically an open manhole, all that attention is gonna result in a whole lot of hateful comments. Sadly, Ariel is no stranger to body shaming, but fortunately, she typically wards off the trolls with surprising skill. But this latest round of trash talk is surprisingly specific, and bullies who really put a lot of thought into their idiocy are often the most dangerous kind. Ariel looks different in some of her recent pics, but that’s only because of her Little Mermaid-hued locks. (That name-appropriate comparison is hers, not ours. She captioned the above pic, “part of yourrrrrr worrrrrld”) But some extremely-online jackass who fancies himself a celebrity sleuth believes there’s more to the story. And thus, in what he probably considered some consummate act of d-bag bravery he “called out” Ariel and accused her of undergoing cosmetic surgery. “How many surgeries have you had on your body and face now?” sayeth the basement-dwelling goblin. When other followers pointed out that Ariel has spoken openly about her breast reductions and does not appear to have had any other work done, the troll presented his case in full: “Two breast reductions, that’s obvious, cheek bone and chin shaving and lip fillers. Pretty obvious, she looks so different #Truth,” he replied. Wow. He used the #Truth hashtag, so it has to be true, right? Yeah, not so much. Ariel was quick to clap back and point out that nothing dude said has any basis in fact. “I wasn’t going to reply but I HAVE to ask…what the f–k is cheek bone and chin shaving????” Winter remarked, adding: “You’re also wrong about all of it by the way. One breast reduction & I lost weight but you do you boo.” That’s how you do it folks: Keep your sense of humor intact, set the record straight, and move on. Sure, there are times when it’s best to simply not acknowledge the haters at all. But to paraphrase Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, sometimes it’s important to not take any guff from these swine. Source: WSB-TV Screenshot A series of emails have been sent to NewsOne purportedly from friends and acquaintances of the motorist in Georgia who saw a hit and run car accident that ended with a driver being shot dead Tuesday evening. Hannah Payne , 21, reportedly saw the collision that police in Clayton County described as a minor fender bender before she followed Kenneth Herring , 62, for a mile, blocked his car with hers, approached him and killed him with her gun. That was after she called 911, which police said typically advise callers against approaching people they’re calling about. Payne is white and Herring is Black. Hannah Payne has been charged with murder for killing a Black man who she saw get in a hit and run car accident. When Kenneth Herring fled, she drove after him, blocked his car, called 911, got out of her car and ended up shooting him to death. https://t.co/aEh95kbNP8 — NewsOne (@newsone) May 10, 2019 Her arrest and subsequent charge of one count of murder without malice resulted in social media users, in particular, claiming the killing was racist in nature. Considering the egregious nature of the charges and the current racial climate in the U.S., tweets that suspected racism were all but obligatory. How do you follow someone for an hour, block their car, punch them, finally shooting and killing them, and be charged with “Murder without Malice “? #femalezimmerman Hannah Payne! — DeirdreIV (@IvDeirdre) May 10, 2019 #HannahPayne literally interjected herself into a situation that she was not involved in and took the laws into her own hands. #KennethHerring is dead because of a minor fender bender. Against The World (@chillin662) May 10, 2019 However, emails have been sent to this writer claiming that Payne was the farthest thing from racist and accusing NewsOne of falsely reporting that she was racist. (NewsOne never reported she was racist.) One email said that the mere suggestion Payne could be behind a racist shooting of a Black man was ludicrous in part because her Facebook page showed she had many Black friends. However, a search for Payne’s Facebook turned up empty and a request by NewsOne to interview the people who sent the emails was denied. Because of that, the emails sent to NewsOne have been paraphrased and not quoted. Another lengthier email said the comparisons NewsOne made between Payne and George Zimmerman were misguided. Zimmerman was the volunteer neighborhood watchman in Florida who followed and killed Trayvon Martin in 2012 even after a 911 operator told him not to approach the unarmed Black teen. He was eventually acquitted of murder under Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law. Georgia also has a Stand Your Ground law , though it was unclear if Payne planned to use that for her defense. The email went on to add that Payne has always been romantically attracted to Black males, using that as a primary reason why the shooting could not have possibly been racially motivated. Another email said Payne lived in a neighborhood where people of all races live together. It was unclear where Payne called home, but the latest Census data for Clayton County showed that more than 71 percent of its residents were listed as being Black. One email blamed Herring, a senior citizen who may or may not have even realized he had hit another car, for driving for a mile after the collision despite there being no reports that he sped away. If Herring did speed away, that would presumably mean that Payne had to drive faster (read: speed) than he was driving just to catch up with him before she used her car to block him in. Insurance companies have long advised drivers who witness a hit and run to document the license plate number of the offending driver and report it to authorities. For instance, State Farm said on its website that drivers involved in and witnesses of a hit and run should not “follow the fleeing driver. Leaving the scene of the accident could put you in a compromising position: You’ll miss getting eyewitness accounts — and police could question who’s really at fault.” The email also wondered why Herring would make such a decision to keep driving. The email insisted that had roles been reversed, Payne would have remained on the scene of her car accident. It went on to say that she carried her legally licensed gun to protect herself from people like Herring. The author of the email didn’t respond to questions about what exactly that meant. All of the emails shared one common refrain: trying to discredit the way that NewsOne has covered the shooting as potentially being motivated by race. That was even as most mainstream media outlets have seemingly ignored the story or moved on to other current events. Upon first glance, there was no apparent direct evidence to suggest the shooting was racially motivated. But the circumstantial evidence, bolstered by the tragic trend of white people not in law enforcement trying to police Black people , appeared to be quite strong. That was especially true when factoring in how the shooting took place in Georgia, a state that prides itself on its role in the Confederacy. In fact, the Georgia House voted in late March “to increase the penalties against those who damage the state’s public and private monuments — and make it more difficult to remove or relocate Confederate markers ,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported at the time. That was as other, more progressive states have moved to remove Confederate monuments. More recently, a mayor in a rural Georgia town rejected a Black man’s job application specifically because of his race. Clayton County is located just 15 miles south of Atlanta, the state’s capital city where Black residents have long thrived socially and economically. But racism has persisted across the state, in both rural and urban locations, much like the rest of the country. Considering those facts, it was nearly impossible to rule out race as a motivational factor for Payne’s lethal pursuit of Herring. Payne’s lawyer said his client was simply trying to do the right thing. “It just seems like an unfortunate situation of a good Samaritan trying to stop a person on a hit-and-run,” Matt Tucker said. A witness described Payne to WSB-TV as the aggressor who immediately claimed after Herring was shot that he was the one who pulled the trigger. Given what is known about the shooting, it may come across as curious why more media outlets were not covering it. Aside from a handful of initial news reports following the news of Payne’s arrest, little other information has been reported with few, if any, follow-up news articles. Even social media was relatively silent despite that egregious nature of the shooting that typically makes for rabid fodder on Twitter and Facebook. Regardless of what investigators discover, it was doubtful that Payne could be charged with a hate crime even if the shooting fit the criteria for it. That was because the Georgia House only recently passed a bill for what could become the state’s first hate crimes legislation. The bill must be approved by the state Senate before it can become law. As of Friday afternoon, Payne remained locked up in Clayton County Jail without bond. Source: WENN / WENN Our friends over at Bossip.com recently reported about Diddy , his children and the way he’s been coping since the death of his longtime girlfriend and mother of his children Kim Porter . The interview was recorded with Diddy’s long-time friend dream hampton . In lighting of Mother’s Day, ESSENCE, with the permission of Diddy, published the audio from that conversation. Throughout it, Diddy shares several gems about the lessons Kim taught him, his new role as a “Mommy-Daddy,” whether or not he regrets anything he may or may not have done in their relationships and why Black mothers are the strongest beings on the earth. See below… Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). Diddy on people not understanding the relationship he and Kim shared… There’s levels and dimensions to love and especially love between a man and woman. There’s this place that almost goes beyond friendship. It’s where two people actually feel a level of responsibility to love this person forever and a total trust. There’s not a lot of people you can say you have total trust. It went beyond us being involved intimately or in a traditional type of relationship. It really felt like a pure definition of unconditional love. Whenever I was around her, I always felt like God had his hand in it. Like God sent her for me to teach me something. Email Submit Diddy on whether or not he has any regrets about anything that happened in the relationship… No I don’t say I have regrets. I don’t have regrets. I feel like when I had said on social media—somebody said, ‘You should have married her.’ And I said, ‘I played myself.’ And it was in many reasons. I wasn’t being all the way honest with my love for her, to myself and even to other people I was in a relationship with. I don’t have no regrets about how things went. They went the way God wanted them to go. But I was playing with love. And it’s not really to be played with. I definitely took for granted that she would just be with me forever. I took for granted that something like this could happen. Diddy on tapping into his feminine energy to become a better father… Everything’s about the kids. And that’s what she instilled in me. That’s what she taught me. And now, as a full-time father, the level of presence that I have now and the level of patience that I have. And even selflessness. Nothing comes before my family before. But of course, there would be a couple of dates, some things I would miss because of my work. Really, putting them first. I always loved them as a father. But from a mother’s perspective, the kids come first and that’s it. It’s nothing else that really matters from a mother’s perspective. I immediately had the lens of a mother. The lens I have as a father was combined with the lens of a mother. I had immediately tap into my feminine side and that protective side. The mother protective is a little bit way crazier than the father protector. The emotions are at such a level. I’ve never actually felt emotions like this. My heart was never open like this. I never had my senses like this. So it’s been crazy from that point. But I knew that she was training me for this. I wasn’t scared. I knew that I was ready. I knew that I was ready to do what I was supposed to do if something like this would ever happen, from all the conversations that we had. We never really had conversations about anything else but our kids. Of course we would have our conversations as friends but if there was time. You know, if I had time and we were alone, her focus was her kids. I inherited that. And I’m proud of it. I feel like I was taught by the best. I know what to do. And even if I don’t know what to do, I just ask myself, ‘What would Kim do?’ SEE ALSO: Diddy Reveals Kim Porter’s Final Words To Him, Covers ESSENCE With His Beautiful Baby Girls Diddy on raising women… I was really concerned about that. So I went to different women and I asked them what could I do to be the best father that I can to my girls. And they all were consistent. They told me, number one is to listen. To make sure that they can speak to me about anything and they’ll know that I’ll really listen and they know I won’t judge them. I had to let them know I’m here to listen. I constantly let them know I’m here to listen and I’m not going to judge y’all. And I can say I probably was a judgmental person a—not the best listener. A not so good listener. I would describe myself as a bad listener. Then they told me that you can’t be controlling. You’re not going to be able to control them. If you try to control them, it’s going to push them further away. So I wouldn’t say I’m free styling. I would say I’m putting in the work I have to put in to really be able to really fill shoes that are almost impossible to fill. I don’t think that a man could ever fill the shoes that a mother fills. So, knowing that I’m trying to step into my mommy-daddy role and also accept help. I’m accepting help from her friends who were very close to her. And like I said, back to the last question about unconventional family, she said to me, ‘You basically started a tribe and you’re the leader of that tribe so you better start acting like it.’ So the tribe is really coming together. So I would have to say that I’m learning day by day and I’m in search of the knowledge. Because I’m listening, they’re actually teaching me how to become the best partner that I can be. Diddy on his plans for this upcoming Mother’s Day, without Kim… The truth is Mother’s Day is going to hurt. We definitely going to celebrate you know all the mothers. We’re not going to get in the way of that. But you know, honestly, anybody that’s lost a mother, lost a soulmate, it takes time. It takes time. They say time heals all wounds but when it comes to your mother, I don’t think that’s the case. And that’s not a negative thing. Because as people we need wounds. Just like when you don’t listen to your mother and you get out of pocket, you need something to sting you sometimes, forever and to keep you on point. And teach you a lesson. [Through tears] You know…I don’t know what Ima do. Ima figure something out though. This hurts so much. I know that people want to hear the good stuff. But I know it’s going to happen. But it hurts. Aint no way around that. Anything else wouldn’t be the truth. I’m trying to do the interview the way I know—but I don’t know if I can like—you got to help me to have a happy ending. I wanted to do it because I wanted to let everybody know just how special all the mothers are. I don’t think anybody could ever understand what it is to be a Black mother. I think we have the strongest beings. When it comes to the category of who’s the strongest beings on the face of the earth, it would have to be Black mothers, yeah. . @Diddy hadn’t planned to be this emotionally vulnerable, but he ultimately agreed to release audio of his interview with friend @DreamHampton from the May issue of ESSENCE. He felt that the potential impact on culture weighed more heavily than his fears. https://t.co/HRj5xtCyOz pic.twitter.com/EsQL09hhSP — ESSENCE (@Essence) May 9, 2019 To read the words and to hear him share them audibly are two totally different experiences. When Complex asked her how she came to be cast in the commercials, she said: “Well, Fam Rothstein, who is one of Donald Glover’s teammates, and a sister named Sylvia, they called and spoke to my husband, who everybody knows is my manager,” she said. “They spoke to Sydney, and when I say it was a beautiful negotiation? It was the way it’s supposed to be done. It was professional people dealing with professional people, and we made something beautiful. Email Submit Mo’Nique said that her experience with Glover and his team was one of the few times where she can recall being respected as she should in this business. “I remember at the end of the shoot, I asked Donald if could I talk to him and his team, and it was one of those moments that brought tears to my eyes to say to those brothers, ‘This is how it’s supposed to be,’” she said. “And to treat a Black woman with such respect and honor, that for me goes down in my history book, to say there are still those out there that treat us with the respect we’re supposed to be treated with. They’re still out there and I know it seems like we got to dig deep, but dammit his name is Donald Glover.” This admission is bittersweet to read. Considering all of the Black men Mo’Nique has worked with throughout the course of her career, it’s a shame that this business deal sticks out in her head as one of the few times she was respected properly as a Black woman. Thankfully, Glover and his team were not only able to see her talent, they were able to respect her worth as an artist and a Black woman. Kudos to him. Hopefully, this type of treatment will become the norm for Mo’Nique and other Black women artists like her. Source: Tetra Images / Getty Miss USA, Miss Teen USA & Miss America Explain Their Achievements On ‘CBS This Morning’ The history-making Black queens of America are ready for their close-ups with their on-camera appearance on CBS This Morning. For the first time, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, and Miss America are all Black women and the three appeared on CBS to describe their journey and groundbreaking wins: “It’s symbolic, I think, and it sends a message across the world really that you can be anything you want to be, and there doesn’t have to be just one of us at a time up here,” Miss America 2019 Nia Franklin said on Tuesday. “It can be all. And I think it showcases diversity as well.” Cheslie Kryst, who won the title of Miss USA last Thursday also added, “It’s also a reminder of how far we have to go.” She continued: “I believe when Ursula Burns was no longer the CEO of Xerox, there were no more Black female CEOs of Fortune 500 companies and that is an unfortunate statistic to know. So I think this celebration or this landmark should we celebrated, but it’s also a reminder we have a lot to do.” Kryst currently serves as an attorney in North Carolina who practices civil litigation, and she also represents prisoners in pro-bono work. Miss Teen USA Kaliegh Garris , who ignored advice and proudly showcased her natural curls during the competition, also explained how representation matters: “I have all these influencers that I look up to on social media. Now I’m getting messages from moms of biracial kids, and kids themselves that are biracial. And girls that are scared to wear their hair naturally, and them saying that I have been a big influence in their lives and that they’re going to start wearing their hair naturally or that they’re more proud to just be themselves. It fills my heart with joy,” Garris said. Garris explained how she used to always straighten her hair for pageants: “It’s just kind of what I did. I looked up to my mom a lot, and she had straight blond hair. I really wanted to embody the same characteristics and I thought I had to do that physically. But as I grew up, I realized I can do that while being myself and still be powerful,” she said. You can watch more of what the icons had to say in the clip below!
Source: Jonathan Gibby / Getty WRITTEN BY: Bruce T. Wright There have been renewed calls to open up the investigation into Sandra Bland ’s suspicious death after a Texas news outlet published the video she filmed of her own infamous arrest in 2015. The footage, made public by WFAA late Monday night, was apparently evidence that local police had been concealing for nearly four years. The revelation that Bland was aware enough to grab her smartphone and record the harrowing ordeal convinced many users across social media that the 28-year old Chicago native was prepared to hold police accountable in a court of law. Instead, three days later, police said they found Bland hanging in her Waller County jail cell and ruled her death a suicide. It's 4 four years old and the only reason why it's “new” is because the authorities tried to bury it. pic.twitter.com/M0gLra8IFt — DJ Sapien (@DJ_Sapien) May 7, 2019 By all means, Bland had every reason to want to live, including the fact that she was set to start a new job at Prairie View A&M University, a historically Black college which is located about 20 minutes north of where the officer pulled her over. The Texas Department of Public Safety denied it had withheld any evidence. “The premise that the video was not produced as a part of the discovery process is wrong,” the agency told WFAA in a brief statement. “A hard drive containing copies of 820 Gigabytes of data compiled by DPS from its investigation, including the dashcam videos, jail video footage and data from Sandra Bland’s cell phone, was part of discovery.” Sandra Bland was arrested for no reason. The state of Texas had evidence of that. They covered it up. And she’s dead. There is no justice. — marisa kabas (@MarisaKabas) May 7, 2019 Bland’s case became a rallying call in the push for criminal justice reform after she died following an arrest for failing to use her turn signal in July 2015. Many activists argued that she should not have been arrested for a minor traffic infraction or jailed in the first place. Earlier this year, another Black inmate was also found dead after apparently hanging himself in the same Texas jail where Bland died, prompting further questions about the facility. Bland’s death sparked police reforms that in practice should have prevented the death in January. For one thing, face-to-face cell inspections were supposed to occur more frequently after Bland died. But with the other inmate’s death, it appeared that protocol was not followed. See below for the recently revealed footage from 2015 that Bland filmed of her own arrest.
