Billy Porter’s Protégé Mykal Kilgore Makes R&B Debut With ‘A Man Born Black’

The tone of it is rich and soulful and with ease, he transitions through rifts and runs making any song he sings a melodic experience; an effortless talent he honed performing in the church choir as a youth. Kilgore gained the confidence to follow his dreams while entertaining a group of classmates, one day, in school. “I would sing with my friends at lunch and one day a group of ‘cool guys’ came over and demanded me to sing them something. I started singing Killing Me Softly and they went crazy,” he explained. He felt “accepted and special.” “I also saw that there was something to singing that makes everybody come together. I wanted to be a part of bringing folks together.” Under the tutelage of Pose star Billy Porter , the Florida native eventually moved to New York where he pursued a career on Broadway ( Motown the Musical ,  The Book of Mormon , Hair). While Mykal thrived on stage, his passion for singing was bursting at the seams. He released his debut R&B album A Man Born Black on September 6. “I wanted to do something audaciously authentic,” says Kilgore. “I didn’t want to release music until I knew I had something clear to say. I’m so secure in my point of view right now.” The 10-track body of work, according to his website, “is an exploration of faith, loss, the stumble and spills on the way to maturity, and the beauty of hope and love.” The freshman debut showcases Kilgore’s songwriting ability while serving as an ode to the classic R&B structure. Produced by Jamison Ross, A Man Born Black embodies sounds from beloved artists like Al Green, Stevie Wonder, Sade and Laila Hathaway. “My hope was that if I could be real about my life and my story through the writing that it would make the song relatable to all people,” he explains. “There are basic things that I want and I use the album to explore these things. I want more love in the world, more respect, more honesty, and more grace.” Kilgore describes A Man Born Black as his “baby.” He laughs when asks what song is his favorite. “You’re making me pick my favorite child?! I think Let Me Go is the song I find myself humming in the shower these days, but maybe by the time I shower tomorrow it’ll be My Heart! I love Let Me Go , because it grows with me everyday. It changes and matures with each listen.” Kilgore set out to give fans an experience that evokes an array of emotions. “ I want fans to feel respected when they listen,’ he says. “I give them my best and that means that the music, the lyrics, the vocals all work together to give an experience that warrants multiple listens, tears, hand claps, toe taps, and their LOVE! I want all of that.” Listen to A Man Born Born Black , here. McKayla Maroney is Slutty Again of the Day

McKayla Maroney I think the highlight of last week, that your American Olympic gold medalist, who won her Gold Medal on the backs of the black girls on her team in what could argue is some modern slavery, made a comeback with her slutty cameltoe shorts. The victim of the US Gymnastic team’s doctor who used to finger young girls with ankle injuries while their moms who believed in the Olympic dream sat in the other room, you know sexualized at a young age, now sexualizing herself again, because her first round of sexualization happened directly after she won the Olympic medal and became a meme….before the team doctor / finger banger scandal happened…She came hard on the social media, amassed the fans, then tapped out…only to come back, with that fit ass she’s been training for, ready to take on America the way America likes to be taken on…through slutty content masked as fitness content cuz she’s an athlete you see. Bubbling Jar Of Mayo Threatens To “Murder All Ni**ers”, Outed As ‘Medium’ Wardrobe Staffer

Source: SOPA Images / Getty White Woman Screams N-Word And Threatens To Murder Black People We spoke earlier about white people losing their minds when they hear people speaking Spanish, but the sight of Black skin is just as triggering. The Becky in the video below spazzed THEE f**k out inside what appears to be a California drug store. “If the law didn't say I couldn't kill the nig*ers, they'd all be dead!” This racist was identified as Heather L. Patton, costume designer, worked on Medium. @PattyArquette if you know this woman, the black community hopes you will speak up. #EndRacism pic.twitter.com/Kxj38SgtmY — Big Boss (@escapedmatrix) September 26, 2019 Upon her outing, Twitter immediately set up shop in Medium star Patricia Arquette’s mentions until she made clear whether or not she was familiar with his crazy broad. I have read she may have actually worked in wardrobe department on Medium. It’s weird I don’t remember her. I forwarded to wardrobe union to investigate. — Patricia Arquette (@PattyArquette) September 26, 2019 Arquette, known for speaking out against injustice, misogyny, inequality, and all things oppressive, wasn’t about to be known as the friend of a racist soup cookie. Twitter did their thing. Hopefully, the folks who run Medium and the police will do theirs. This heffa just threatened bloody genocide.

Hailey Baldwin Just Liked A Pic Of Selena Gomez On Instagram & We’re Shook!

Hailey Baldwin, we see you girl! The 22-year-old model quietly “liked” a photo of Selena Gomez last night on Instagram, out of nowhere, and fans don’t know what to think. Although the two are not exactly BFFs , because, well, Hailey married Selena’s on-and-off ex-boyfriend last year, it looks like time may have finally healed all wounds? Ok, it’s hard to know what’s really going on here with just the smallest amount of Instagram activity, but anything is possible!  And when you look further into the details of this story, it seems as though Hailey is totally offering up an olive branch.  Besides Justin Bieber, who the girls both um, have in common, they also share best friend Raquelle Stevens. Raquelle posted a cute photo on September 23 to celebrate the launch of her new Vodcast, Giving Back Generation , which featured friends Courtney Lopez, Ashley Cook, and yep, Selena.  The three women were Raquelle’s guests for her very first episode, and after the taping, she took to IG to promote the release.  “On this episode we talk about what giving looks like through friendship,” Raquelle’s caption read.  “This episode is particularly special to me as Courtney, Sel, and Ashley have been my friends all through my 20’s. We talk about what it means to support each other, forgive, and grow together.”  “Look forward to hearing your feedback & hope it leaves you encouraged,” she wrote.  Hailey liked the pic to support her friend, but Selena fans couldn’t help but notice the gesture.  In the show, Stevens emphasized the importance of women not competing with one another and supporting each other instead.  “When you’re in your lane, no one else is you,” Stevens said. SO basically, Hailey showed her support on the most appropriate of photos, making it very clear that she is here for that friendship message. And we’re crying it’s fine.  Ok, I know that these two will probably never hang out and eat ice cream together, but still, the gesture is inspiring.  And even better, it was intentional. Hailey’s “like” is still present on the post, so we’re pretty sure that this time she actually meant to leave it, unlike her last run-in with Gomez on social media. Remember last year when she accidentally followed a Selena Gomez fan account?  And then she DM’d the owner saying she was sorry for accidentally following the account? … yeah, it was very uncomfy. But years before any of this love triangle drama went down, Hailey was actually a huge Selenator.  Oh No They Didn’t  dug up some old tweets made by Baldwin where she gushed about Gomez (and yes, even her relationship with Justin Biber, believe it or not.)  In one tweet Baldwin said, “I’m for sure 100% team #Jelena.” Boy, how times have changed. Now, Hailey and Justin are happily married and well, life goes on.  Who knows, maybe Selena will return the love to Hailey one day?   “Never Say Never” ,  but I wouldn’t hold your breath.  View Slideshow: Justin Bieber: A Chronological List of 31 Women Who Slept With Him For Some Reason

H&M Responds To Criticism Over Young Black Girl’s Ad Appearance, “That’s What We Were Going For.”

Source: SOPA Images / Getty Oh H&M . The Swedish based company is back under fire again after an ad appeared online with a young Black girl’s natural hair looking unkempt. The disheveled ad was blasted by celebrity hairstylist  Vernon François , who shared the photo on Instagram and noted that he sees “situations like this happen time and time again. And it’s got to stop.” “It’s essential that we have a conversation about this photograph from the  @hm_kids campaign,” François wrote. ” Before I begin, I do not have the facts, nor have I seen any statement by #H&M or the team who worked on this. This post is just an assessment based on all my years of seeing situations like this happen time and time again.  And its got to stop. This beautiful young girl’s #kinky hair appears to have had very little to no attention yet all of her counterparts have clearly sat in front of someone who was more than capable of styling other hair textures. My heart breaks imagining yet another girl from my community” View this post on Instagram It’s essential that we have a conversation about this photograph from the @hm_kids campaign.  Before I begin, I do not have the facts, nor have I seen any statement by #H&M or the team who worked on this. This post is just an assessment based on all my years of seeing situations like this happen time and time again.  And its got to stop. This beautiful young girl’s #kinky hair appears to have had very little to no attention yet all of her counterparts have clearly sat in front of someone who was more then capable of styling other hair textures. My heart breaks imagining yet another girl from my community sitting in front of a mirror being ignored by the team around her, left to her own devices because someone didn’t know how to handle her texture. As if that’s not bad enough…. Prior to this campaign appearing this photograph will have been seen and APPROVED by countless ‘professionals'. Lets say conservatively 50 people. It’s breathtaking to me that not one person looked at this shot and had the same reaction that the internet seems to be feeling since the campaign broke.  THAT IS AN ISSUE.  We must do better.  Our girls, our young women deserve better.  Let this be a moment of learning. #Education is key #wehavetodobetter #vernonfrancois #Ignorance #blackgirlmagic #allhairisgoodhair A post shared by Vernon François (@vernonfrancois) on Sep 19, 2019 at 9:33pm PDT Since the outrage, H&M has responded to the backlash but not in a way that you would expect. The discount retail giant revealed that all of the children were photographed the same way and that the idea was to capture them in their natural state after school, which left many to argue that it wasn’t H&M’s fault for the child’s appearance, but the parent’s. “We are aware of the comments regarding one of our models for H&M Kids. We truly believe that all kids should be allowed to be kids. The school-aged kids who model for us come to the photo studio in the afternoon after school and we aim for a natural look which reflects that,” H&M said in a statement to Yahoo . Although the family of the young girl in question has yet to respond, the fact remains that while all of the children in the subsequent ads look tousled, African-Americans have yet to accept and truly embrace 4b and 4c textured hair. Even when you look at our own ads for hair care and promoting the “natural” look, most women chosen have textures that are still very Eurocentric. It’s no secret that women in the natural community have often voiced their disdain over not feeling adequate with their natural textures, due to 3b and 3c being the heavily promoted look-so the question isn’t who’s to blame, it’s are we really being honest about our own feelings regarding textures with tighter coils? As Bustle points out, 4b and 4c hair have long been viewed as the “bad hair grade”, but many had hoped with the explosion of the natural hair movement in the early 2000s that we would rewrite the narrative, but as we can see by our own words during the controversy, we still have a long ways to go. H&M AT IT AGAIN They wrong for that. Where the child mama? I hope she sue them for public humiliation, defamation of character, and discrimination They could had a stylist touch this child hair. Pathetic pic.twitter.com/egxNJza1Sz — Shawda' Love (@Shawdaaaa) September 20, 2019 “There was a period in time that I hated my hair,” Charlene Akuamoah, a stylist said in her interview with the publication . “I thought it was so difficult to manage: It was rough, the curls were too tight, it didn’t look ‘presentable,’ it was always dry, and I felt like I looked better with straight hair. I [thought] that my hair had to be tamed.” Sentiments echoed throughout the complaint of the child’s appearance in the ad. While H&M is undoubtedly tone-deaf regarding race in advertisements, this time the fingers we are pointing should be aimed at the real perpetrators-us. Please people, let’s uplift this little girl! She’s killing her H&M shoots with her natural 4C hair. Lil sis is serving us poses and she looks happy and beautiful #Queenin pic.twitter.com/8z92Gi51rF — insta:msyasmine (@msyasmine_) September 20, 2019 I don't blame h&m, i blame the interwoke folks whos heroes are internet goddesses with 4c buns and TEXTURIZED edges. — ike slimster (@iKeslimster) September 21, 2019 Why y’all keep singling out the one black girl from the H&M ad? ALL the kids’ hairstyles were messed up. How come the other children aren’t getting this backlash? Hair texture got y’all twisting for excuses like pretzels. But anywho- pic.twitter.com/ksludbLayc — Tenille Clarke (@tenilleclarke1) September 20, 2019 There is a little Black girl whose face is floating around the internet who should be celebrating landing a modeling opportunity for H&M right now. Instead she’ll have to see commentary over how her hair should’ve looked better. — Negrita (@HustleAndFro_) September 20, 2019 Hopefully, the reality and exposure of the tainted way we still view our natural selves will help us change the narrative in our own community. Representation matters, especially when you see it loved among the very people you are representing to the world.

Arina Lush Tan Line Titty Photoshoot of the Day

You don’t need to know who Arina Lush is….because I don’t know who she is. I just think the tanline photoshoot she is the star of is pretty great…I mean not THAT great, but still something a little different, a little comedic or ironic, a little Canadian Prime Minister in Black/Brownface, like every single fucking girl on INSTAGRAM, including but not limited to Ariana Grande, but who don’t get called out as racists…because we’re too busy jerking off to them…coupled with not thinking that brown make-up is a racist thing. It is not “mocking” people to emulate people…it’s all in good fun… I am not trying to overhype this shoot, it’s really not THAT great but my expectations are so low from all the laziness of social media photoshoots that something as basic as this stands out. I think that’s more a testament of the state of instagram content and less about these tits…that are still tits being shown off for attention.. Jonah Hill Reportedly Tapped To Play Villain In Upcoming ‘The Batman”

Read this article:

Source: photo: WENN When it was announced that Twilight star Robert Pattinson would be replacing Ben Affleck as the Batman , DC and Warner Bros. immediately saw a backlash from fans who saw this move as a money grab intended to sway Twilight tweens to pack theaters to see Edward Cullen evolve from a teen vampire to a full grown Batman. Though word around the script itself is rumored to center around the classic Batman mini-series The Long Halloween , nothing else has been said about the upcoming Matt Reeves directed film. Until now. According to Variety , fan favorite comedy actor Jonah Hill has been tapped to play the Dark Knight’s antagonist in the upcoming film and though his character continues to be a mystery it is believed that the Superbad actor will either be donning the umbrella and top hat of The Penguin or the cane and question mark etched outfit of The Riddler. While Variety also lists Mr. Freeze as another possible role for Hill, he seems more like a Penguin or Riddler kind of character. Just sayin.’ Regardless of which character he plays his inclusion in The Batman is definitely welcomed by Batman fans and will certainly give us more reason to put down our money at the box office when the Dark Knight swings into theaters sometime in June of 2021. But if Robert Pattinson’s Batman is indeed going to follow the storyline of The Long Halloween , then Jonah Hill won’t be the only villain involved in the film as the classic Jeph Loeb storyline included appearances from a few familiar villains from the Batman universe. Here’s to hoping that DC and Warner Bros. doesn’t screw this one up too and turn Jonah Hill into yet another iteration of the Joker or even worse, Bane. Jonah Hill has been looking particularly pumped these days though so you never know.

Black Ex-Cop Who Arrested 6-Year-Old Students Got Fired

Source: Suwannar Kawila / EyeEm / Getty A former Orlando police officer working as a resource officer in an elementary school is now without a job after he arrested a pair of six-year-olds. Dennis Turner, who is Black, has a history of violent behavior on his record according to several reports. CNN reports : An Orlando elementary school resource officer who arrested two 6-year-olds in two separate incidents was fired Monday, said Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolon. Rolon said during an afternoon press conference the department was trying to give the officer “at least the benefit” of reviewing paperwork and statements. “It was clear today when I came into work that there was no other remedy than to terminate this officer,” he said. Rolon added that one of his top priorities as the chief of police is “to earn and protect the trust between the community and its officers” and this incident put that trust into question. “On behalf of myself and the Orlando Police Department, I apologize to the children involved and their families,” Rolon said. Police initially said one child was 8 years old, but Rolon said Monday they were both 6 years old. Turner attempted to arrest a six-year-old girl who was having a temper tantrum last week at Lucious and Emma Nixon Academy. The family of the girl claimed that the girl was fingerprinted and had a mugshot taken of her, but Orlando police denied the claim and say the girl was not processed. The other six-year-old, a boy, was reportedly processed through the juvenile system and released to his parents. Chief Rolon made slight mention of Turner’s own issues with his son, whom he allegedly beat after bringing home a bad report card in 1998 when the boy was seven years of age. Turner was arrested but said in an interview with The Sentinel that he felt within rights to administer discipline to his child. In 2015, Turner was reprimanded for excessive force after tasing an already-downed suspect repeatedly. — Photo: Getty

Man Drowns While Proposing To His Girlfriend Underwater [VIDEO]

Excerpt from:

A Louisiana man recently drowned during a beautiful vacation in Tanzania as he proposed to his longtime girlfriend, who never even got the chance to give him her answer. Kenesha Antoine posted a heartbreaking Facebook post on earlier this week that her boyfriend, Steven Weber Jr., died while he popped the big question underwater. “I can’t hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you, but everything I love about you I love more every day,” it reads. Weber can then be seen in video flipping the note over to show the other side — “Will you marry me?” the sign asks — before pulling out a ring box and flipping it open. Sign Up For Our Newsletter!
