Black Lightning returns for a second season in October. BLACK-ISH Source: Amanda Edwards / Getty Come October, Black-ish— starring all of our faves—makes its big return. After covering police brutality and Black Lives Matter, the N-word, and more, we don’t know how this critically acclaimed show can get any better. While not much has been revealed about the forthcoming fifth season, we’re hoping it’s as edgy and timely as the last. Tune in to ABC on Tuesday, October 16 to find out for yourself.

Domestic Abuse Allegation Won’t Go Away As Keith Ellison’s Campaign Heads To Finish Line

W ith Election Day nearing, the dark cloud of a domestic abuse scandal reappeared over U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison ’s campaign for Minnesota attorney general. See Also: Rep. Keith Ellison Hints His Ex-Girlfriend Is Trying To Sabotage His Campaign The congressman’s ex-girlfriend Karen Monahan posted an image of a medical document on social media Tuesday, which purports to show that Monahan told a doctor in 2017 that she had been in an abusive relationship with Ellison, the  Minneapolis Star Tribune reported. Allegation of domestic abuse first surfaced in August, just days before Minnesota’s primary election. Ellison immediately denied the charge. His campaign did not respond right away to the Star Tribune’s request for comments on the medical document. A hospital spokeswoman declined to confirm whether the document is authentic because commenting would violate patient privacy rules. Rep. Keith Ellison's ex-girlfriend posts medical record to show she told a doctor in 2017 about their abusive relationship. https://t.co/uA6KJTu67Y pic.twitter.com/eg69Q16r1g — Star Tribune (@StarTribune) September 20, 2018 In an Aug. 11 Facebook post, Monahan’s son accused Ellison of sending his mother angry text messages and claimed that he viewed a video of an abusive incident in which Ellison allegedly pulled his mother’s legs and feet while she was lying on a bed. The video, however, has not been released, which has raised questions about its existence. MPR News reviewed more than 100 texts and Twitter messages between the congressman and Monahan, but found no evidence to support the allegations about angry messages. The messages revealed that the former couple communicated for months after their breakup. Their communication was sometimes friendly and at other times combative. Meanwhile, most Minnesota voters have been unsure what to make of the domestic abuse allegation. In a Star Tribune/MPR News Minnesota Poll conducted Sept. 10 to Sept. 12, a week before Monahan posted the medical document, 57 percent of participants said they didn’t know what to think about the abuse allegations. But 21 percent believed it, and 22 percent did not. However, the allegation had not damaged Ellison’s favorability standing with female voters. They preferred Ellison by 46 percent to 35 percent over his Republican rival for attorney general. Rejoice! Black Ink Crew Is Back And So Is The Donna Tattoo Slander

Donna Dragging Commences Season 7 of Black Ink Crew is here and we couldn’t be any happier. The band is back together and this season looks to be as dramatic (and punchy) as ever before. There appear to be some changes afoot as there’s a new shop opening in NOLA, but there’s one constant: the internet returning to clown Donna’s struggle tats. Remember the blackfoot tat from last season? The north remembers. When Ceaser said “…my All Star tattoo artist…” Donna should've known he wasn't talking about her #BlackInkCrew — Highly Favored (@tokingblackgirl) September 20, 2018 Donna was upset that she wasn’t chosen as one of the “best” tattooers on the team, without realizing that she was going to stay back and run the NY shop while the NOLA shop was getting put together. So she got mad for no reason, allowing everyone else to just clown the hell out of her horrible tattooing. Everyone wins!

Afro-Latina News Reporter Gets Complaint Calls From Salty Saltines Over Her “N*ggery-Looking” Natural Hair

Corallys Ortiz Told To Straighten Her ‘N*ggery-Looking’ Hair For The News Another day, another disgruntled MAGA-loving mayo packet getting all out of line and ahead of themselves. You may recall last year when Las Vegas weather reporter Demetira Obilor ‘s thick curves and natural curls had box-shaped, un-melanated watchers shook and calling to complain. Now, West Tennessee reporter Corallys Ortiz is catching some similar hater heat over her copious curls and kinks . The Afro-Latina reporter, of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent, has been giving her flat iron a rest an rocking her natural hair in the Tennessee humidity for the past few days. But some of her viewers just can’t handle seeing something so offensively African on their screens when they just want to tune into the evening news and peacefully hear about their president’s latest moves. Corallys took to her Facebook page to share a video of the recorded message she received about her hairstyle, where a caller complained about her “n*ggery-looking” hair and suggested she straighten it ASAP. SMH. Thankfully, since she came forward with that racial verbal abuse by viewers she’s gotten an outpouring of support from fans. SMH. Are you shocked that Black newscasters are still getting these types of complaints on their appearance? Getty/Instagram/Facebook

Democrats Are Courting Young Black Voters After Taking Them For Granted In 2016

Excerpt from:

I t’s no secret that Black voter turnout was low during the 2016 presidential campaign. Part of the reason was Democrats taking the Black vote for granted, rarely hiring African-Americans at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and poor messaging. For the 2018 midterms, the Black vote was again expected to be key, as it helped power Doug Jones past Roy Moore during the Alabama U.S. Senate race. In addition, Andrew Gillum of Florida and  Stacey Abrams of Georgia secured their Democratic nominations for governor. Now, one Democrat was putting his money where his mouth is. SEE ALSO: Texas Cop Shoots Unarmed Black Man For Entering His Own Truck Billionaire Tom Steyer , most known for his calls to impeach 45, was donating $1 million to an initiative to increase turnout among Black youth, especially in the 2018 midterm elections, Axios.com reported . Black Lives Rising works directly with Color of Change PAC and Black Futures Lab. Arisha Hatch, director of Color of Change PAC, said they are avoiding “a transactional engagement with Black voters.” They will focus on Black non-voters and Black irregular voters — meaning voters who voted for President Barack Obama but haven’t felt compelled to vote in midterm elections. “For too long, Black youth have been denied a seat at the table, but with the rise of young black leaders … a new era of inclusive politics is emerging,” Steyer said in a statement. Clearly, Steyer knows the key to winning elections is the Black vote. Let’s see if other so-called progressive millionaires and billionaires follow his lead. A 20-year-old Black college student has died following what his family said was a fraternity hazing incident in California late last week. Police are investigating the death and are considering hazing as a possible factor. RELATED:  Hazing Horrors: More Students Being Beaten, Degraded And Humiliated At High Schools Tyler Hilliard , 20, who would have become a junior with an engineering major at the University of California Riverside, lost his life after pledging Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, the young man’s family said. The African-American fraternity has a firm anti-hazing policy, defining hazing as “illegal and a crime in most jurisdictions,” according to its website . “Pledging has been officially abolished as a means of obtaining membership in Alpha Phi Alpha, and pledge ‘lines’ have been officially abolished by the fraternity,” the APA statement also said. Hilliard began pledging the fraternity and participating in activities in July, his family said. The young man was allegedly pushed into eating an entire onion drenched in hot sauce and had to drink a lot of water. He also was allegedly paddled with a cactus, ABC-owned KABC   reported. However, things took a tragic turn when after fraternity pledges took part in a strenuous run on Saturday night that ended with him being rushed to the hospital. He was later pronounced dead. UC Riverside released a statement and its condolences. The school has offered support to the young man’s family and counseling services to the campus community. The university is working with its police department to determine the official cause of Hilliard’s death. Police are waiting on the result of an autopsy, according to KABC. “A mother should never have a bury a child like that. He’s only 20. He hasn’t even begun to live his life. He had a bright future ahead of him,” said Hilliard’s mother, Myeasha Kimble,  according to CBS Los Angeles . SEE ALSO: Where Is Amber Guyger? These 5 Petty Republican Attacks On Black Candidates Show The GOP’s Desperation

See the original post here:

R epublicans are showing their desperation to hold on to political power by resorting to petty attacks on Black candidates, as the GOP braces for a possible Democratic avalanche in the midterm elections. See Also: From Kamala Harris To Stacey Abrams: How Black Woman Are Saving Democracy The latest example happened in Wisconsin where Mandela Barns is running for lieutenant governor. On Monday, he called it “crazy” that his GOP rival would claim without evidence that he knelt during the national anthem at a state fair over the summer, Fox 6 News reported. Incumbent Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch , who was reportedly at the fair during the ceremony, told reporters that other people told her Barnes was kneeling. Here’s how Barns responded to her allegation: Me, a candidate. Standing next to every news camera. Kneeling. And she only “heard about it.” Rebecca, for real? History of this nation should caution her from making wild allegations like this. That's a dangerous game. https://t.co/jaVBl4EasC — Mandela Barnes (@TheOtherMandela) September 17, 2018 Here are other examples: Andrew Gillum Accused Of Being Weak On Stopping Child Molesters The GOP’s nominee for Florida governor Ron DeSantis claimed during a speech on Sept. 15 that his rival Andrew Gillum would be weak on preventing child molesters from targeting kids in the state, an accusation that the Miami Herald called “absurd.” DeSantis, who previously made a racially charged attack on Gillum, tried to link his claim to Gillum’s opposition to President Trump ’s immigration policy, the newspaper said.   NewsOne talked with @AndrewGillum about his campaign, as he races toward the finish line in the #FloridaPrimary for governor…. https://t.co/e2D9Xg3KE8 @peoplefor pic.twitter.com/aKGq5PwpWf — NewsOne (@newsone) August 28, 2018 Stacey Abrams Debt Shamed The Republican Governors Association released an attack ad on Aug. 10 that tried to debt shame Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams , amplifying a line of attack from her GOP rival Brian Kemp , WABE radio reported. Abrams owes the IRS $54,000, stemming from assisting her parents, that she has made arrangements to pay. “I have never failed to file my taxes, I have never failed to pay my taxes,” she said. “I am on a payment plan to fully fund my taxes.” Meanwhile, Republicans have ignored the “ legally dubious ” loopholes Trump used to avoid paying taxes. John Faso , Delgado’s Republican opponent, attacked Delgado’s lyrics on an 18-song CD released in 2006. The Black candidate criticized the two-party political system, described dead presidents as white supremacists and made frequent use of the N-word on the CD. Randy Hultgren tried to make a big deal about President Barack Obama ’s endorsement of Lauren Underwood for Congress. It would have been an eye-opener if Obama, who’s still popular in Illinois, failed to endorse Underwood. Tiffany Haddish Had This Classy Response To Katt Williams’ Comments That She Doesn’t Deserve Her Success

Source: Jason LaVeris / Getty Tiffany Haddish knows how to keep it classy even when she’s clapping back at folks who disrespect her. Earlier this week on the on the  V-103’s Frank and Wanda In The Morning Show, Katt Williams had words about the “Night School” actress claiming that she doesn’t deserve the spotlight she’s been given over comics such as  Mo’Nique. To make matters worse, he also referred to her genitalia as a “diseased vajayjay.” While, Williams tried it, thankfully Haddish finished it. On Friday (Sep. 14), Haddish to took to Twitter, sharing the clip of Williams badmouthing her, saying the following: “It’s official I made it!@KattPackAllDay talked about me and didn’t have his facts right! # Iwin # sheready I look forward to seeing you on Monday Katt, when we pick up our Emmys. I just want to shower you with REAL Love cause you need it, and I Love you .” It’s official I made it!@KattPackAllDay talked about me and didn’t have his facts right! #Iwin #sheready I look forward to seeing you on Monday Katt, when we pick up our Emmys. I just want to shower you with REAL Love cause you need it, and I Love you https://t.co/WVOgZvwLZn — Tiffany Haddish (@TiffanyHaddish) September 14, 2018 In case you need a refresher, here’s what Williams said about his co-Emmy winner. “She’s been doing comedy since she was 16. You can’t tell me your favorite Tiffany Haddish joke. Why? Because she ain’t done a tour yet. She ain’t done a special. She has not proven the ability to tell jokes back to back for an hour to nobody,” Williams said. He added, “They like her because she wanna sleep with a white man. That’s why the only thing she said was I wanna give it to Brad Pitt. She said she’s got a diseased vajayjay ain’t nobody checking for that.” Sadly, Haddish wasn’t the only one who Williams attacked. He had a lot to say about a slew of upcoming Black comedians such as  Jerrod Carmichael , Lil Rel , Kevin Hart  and  Hannibal Buress . “They’re going to let you do your special, Jerrod Carmichael, but nobody’s gonna watch it. They’re gonna let you be a star, Lil Rel, but you’re ugly and white people don’t believe in ugly stars. They believe that you have to be somebody women want to sleep with and men want to be, but because we’re black they say ‘oh you don’t even deserve that.’ So we get Kevin Hart, Lil Rel, Jerrod Carmichael, Hannibal Burress, just dudes that no woman would talk to in Lennox Mall, but you’re making them superstars because you know ain’t nobody gonna sleep with them.” Sigh. Why can’t we all just get along?
