2018 Atlanta Greek Picnic Over 10,000 members of Black Greek letter organizations recently galvanized in Atlanta for the annual Atlanta Greek Picnic. This year’s picnic not only included the annual meetup on the campus of Morris Brown College, it included a networking event and a community service project. Friday, June 22 AGP held its annual step show this time with a prize of $20,000 in scholarships. 2,0000 attendees came out to the Rickey Smiley hosted show that featured a performance from Plies… and recognized Democratic Candidate for Governor of Georgia Stacey Abrams with an award of esteemed appreciation. In response to receiving the award from The Atlanta Greek Picnic, Democratic Candidate for Governor of Georgia Stacey Abrams said; “I am honored to have been recognized by the Atlanta Greek Picnic and the Divine Nine, and commend them for their outstanding service to the community. This past weekend a White woman many are calling “ Permit Patty ” called the cops on an 8-year-old Black girl for selling water. She told the cops that the little girl and her mother yelled outside her window and she didn’t like it. S acramento activists want to see justice for the recent police-involved death of a Black father, Brandon Smith . They also want the day to finally come when the police officers involved in Stephon Clark ‘s fatal shooting are fired, charged, tried and convicted for his death. The protests, beginning on Tuesday, will last until next Wednesday — one day for each of the eight times that Clark, 22, was shot on March 18 — Ryan McClinton , a community organizer for advocacy group Sacramento Area Congregations Together, told the Sacramento Bee . Police accountability for the death of Smith, 30, who died from unknown causes while in police custody two weeks ago, was also a top priority for BLM. He was transported by an unidentified Sacramento police officer, having called for medical help during the ride, body camera footage released on June 13 revealed. “I’m f—– up. I feel like I’m having a heart attack,”Smith is heard in the video saying. “Oh my god,” he continued, as a Sacramento officer took him to a police truck. He was placed in the vehicle before he fell on the metal floor. Once the car arrived at the jail, Smith was discovered unresponsive, the Bee reported. It’s important to note that the report said that despite Smith’s pleas for help, no attention, including CPR, was given to him until after he was found out cold. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, with his death being similar to that of Freddie Gray , 25, who died in Baltimore police custody in April 2015. The cops’ names have not been officially disclosed. However, civil rights attorney John Burris identified them as Terrence Mercadal and Jared Robinet after the department released footage of the shooting on March 21. Mercadal and Robinet were put on paid administrative, but then returned to work in a non-patrol capacity on April 9, according to the Bee. Sacramento County district attorney Anne Marie Schubert won a June 5 primary despite no charges having been brought against the officers for Clark’s death. Schubert blamed the police for the slow investigation, saying the department had not brought their case to her, ABC10 reported. Activists want Schubert and the department to know that no justice equals no peace. Summer is here! And if you are like me, I like to wear less makeup in the summer because I don’t like it sweating off (makeup slipping is the worst). Being in the heart of the heat (New Orleans), I met up with pro makeup artist Sheria Williams. Williams’ was confident we could achieve a light look that would have my skin looking flawless and use products that would not slip to sweat and heat. She explained that contouring helps bring depth to your face. She used LA Girl HD Pro Concealer ($2.38, Walmart.com ). This concealer is cheap and a favorite of many. Williams’ purred, “It goes on sooo creamy!” Even Real Housewives Of Atlanta star, Kandi , loves it and keeps it in her bag ! She used MAC Studio Fix SPF 15 Foundation ($30.00, MACcosmetics.com ) for the rest of my face. To me, it wasn’t even the foundation she used but how she applied it. She stippled my face. Stippling is when you pat the foundation on your face instead of rubbing it in. It also allows your foundation to stay pigmented and give you maximum coverage. I’m confident this is what gave it the airbrushed look. Powder. After she applied the foundation, she set it with Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder ($38.00, Sephora.com ). I believe this is the best setting powder on the market and worth the almost $40.00 investment. All of #TeamBeautiful loves this setting powder. “Baby Daddy” Father’s Day Greeting Card Pulled From Target Target has been called to task over racial insensitivity after a photo of one of their Father’s Day cards has gone viral. While searching for a greeting card for her husband at a Rockwall, Texas Target, Takeisha Saunders noticed that the only card that featured a picture of an African-American couple read “Baby Daddy” om the front . She took to her social media, outraged that she could find nothing else more respectful, or featuring a Black couple with the insinuation that they were married. According to ABC , after an onslaught of outrage, Target yanked the cards from about half of its 1800 nationwide store locations. Take a look at the card below. It appears that the card is meant to be some sort of loving joke between a married couple with children, however, the couple featured on the front being Black left a pretty sour taste in the mouths of those who got an eyeful of the sentiment on social media. As Target spokesman Joshua Thomas said in a statement to ABC News, “We want all guests to feel welcomed and respected when they shop at Target. We were made aware of some concerns about this card last week and are working with our vendor to have it removed from Target stores. We appreciate the feedback and apologize.
