The winners are in for the first annual American Country Countdown Awards, fittingly handed out last night in Nashville, Tennessee. Who took home the top honors? Jason Aldean took home the inaugural Artist of the Year award Monday night, while co-hosts Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line won three times. Luke Bryan also won thrice, including twice with the aforementioned duo. It has been a while since I’ve done a post on Blake Lively . I’m not sure if you guys remember but back in 2009, Blake was “Hollywood Tuna’s Babe of The Year”. A lot has changed since then: Blake got married to some douche, Gossip Girl is done and basically she has fallen off the grid. Well, here she is at the 67th Cannes Film Festival opening ceremony and even though she doesn’t look bad, I regret crowing her “Babe of The Year”. I can admit when I’ve made a mistake.
Miley Cyrus was hospitalized today due to an allergic reaction the singer had to antibiotics she’ been taking. According to a press release – written by Kansas City’s Sprint Center, where Cyrus was scheduled to perform a Bangerz tour show tonight – the artist has been “placed on medical rest by her doctors” and forced to postpone the event. No makeup date has been announced. “Kansas I promise I’m as heartbroken as you are. I wanted to badly 2 b there 2night,” Miley herself Tweeted this afternoon. “Not being with yall makes me feel s—tier than I already do.” Cyrus, of course, has already had a rough month. Her dog Floyd was killed by a coyote and she has openly expressed her unbearable pain via various social media messages. About a week ago, she canceled a concert at the last minute in Charlotte due to illness. The playoffs wrapped on The Voice Tuesday, cementing the Top 12 as we move on to the live shows next week and ending the coaching phase. Up until this point, each of the surviving singers have either won two battles and/or enough points from a coach to advance. Now that’s all over. The coaches trimmed their rosters from five to three singers for the live shows, and Tuesday’s one-hour episode put Usher’s contestants in the hot seat. Bria Kelly picked up a guitar for The Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses,” and put forth an emotional performance that while not her best, was strong. Josh Kaufman dedicated Bruno Mars’ “It Will Rain” to his wife, adding a lot of raspy high notes that the original track doesn’t have, and earning praise. Piers Morgan concluded his final broadcast of Piers Morgan Live on Friday by addressing a topic that has become synonymous with this British TV personality: Gun control. The anchor famously went off on a pro-gun panel after a Naval Yard shooting in September. And, even more famously following the tragedy in Newtown in December 2012, asked ” how many more kids have to die ?” before America adopts similar gun laws to those of other first world nations. Here’s a look at what Morgan had to say to wrap up his show last night: Piers Morgan Gun Control Plea And for those who are more visual, here is a transcript of the highlights: I assumed that after 70 people were shot in a movie theater, and then, just a few months later, 20 first-graders were murdered with an assault rifle in an elementary school, the absurd gun laws in this country would change. But nothing has happened. The gun lobby in America, led by the NRA, has bullied this nation’s politicians into cowardly, supine silence. Even when 20 young children are blown away in their classrooms.This is a shameful situation that has made me very angry. So angry, in fact, that some people have criticized me for being too loud, opinionated, even rude when I have debated the issue of guns. But I make no apologies for that. As Sir Winston Churchill said: ‘If you have an important point to make, don’t try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time – a tremendous whack.’ My point is simple: More guns doesn’t mean less crime, as the NRA repeatedly says. It means more gun violence, death and profits for the gun manufacturers. And to those who claim my gun control campaigning has been “anti-American,” the reverse is true. I am so pro-American that I want more of you to stay alive. But I’ve made my point. I’ve given it a tremendous whack. Now it’s down to you. It’s your country; these are your gun laws.
