Among her biggest fans: mom Jessica Simpson, dad Eric Johnson and her maternal grandmother, Tina Simpson! While out on a coffee run at an L.A. Starbucks with a group of family members, Tina was overheard gushing about her hours-old granddaughter. “Maxwell is so precious and peaceful,” she said, according to a witness, who added that the whole group, which included Ashlee Simpson, Eric’s mother and Jessica’s assistant, was in a happy mood. Enough of this racist monkey business . Puerto Rican Politics Gets Ugly On Twitter After Photo Of Rafael Cox Alomar Is Posted With The Words R.I.P. Yuyo There’s a firestorm of controversy over a photo that was posted on Twitter Monday of Puerto Rican politician Rafael Cox Alomar, a black Puerto Rican who is running for the office of Puerto Rican resident commisioner in Washington, with the words R.I.P. Yuyo. Yuyo is the name of a famous chimp who died in a San Juan zoo last week. The image sparked repudiation by Twitter users, since it was disseminated from the account of the former speaker of Puerto Rico’s lower house, Zaida Hernández, of the governing PNP. Hernández distanced herself from the photo and said she had no idea how the photo came to be tweeted from her account, but she said that it must be the work of hackers. “I started on Twitter a week ago. I don’t know what the photo is about, and I haven’t seen it. I’m not capable of such a despicable act. I discuss my business right up front,” Hernández said. Cox Alomar, meanwhile, said that the matter was about “low politics” that the Puerto Rican people reject. He said that the the “politics of underhanded racism” has no place in the 21st century and that this is not the first racial attack against him since he launched his candidacy to represent Puerto Rico in the U.S. Congress. Rick Santorum announced that he is suspending his presidential campaign, all but putting an end to the Republican primary: “We made a decision to get into this race at our kitchen table, against all the odds, and we made a decision over the weekend that while this presidential race is over for me, and we will suspend our campaign effective today, we are not done fighting,” Santorum said during an address in Gettysburg, Pa. During his 14-minute speech, Santorum notably did not endorse Mitt Romney. The Pennsylvania Republican had taken a break from the campaign trail for several days to tend to his ailing daughter, Bella. He had pledged to continue campaigning through the upcoming Pennsylvania primary. But the combination of his daughter’s sickness and recent poll numbers showing him possibly losing his home state apparently prompted the early departure. According to Yahoo! News, Santorum called Romney earlier in the day to inform him of his decision to suspend his campaign. The former senator also made a call to campaign operatives to relay his decision. Marine To Be Dismissed After Criticizing Obama On Facebook A Marine who criticized President Barack Obama on his Facebook page has committed misconduct and should be dismissed, a military board recommended late Thursday. The Marine Corps administrative board made the decision after a daylong hearing at Camp Pendleton for Sgt. Gary Stein. The board also recommended that Stein be given an other-then-honorable discharge. That would mean Stein would lose his benefits and would not be allowed on any military base. The board’s recommendations go to a general who will either accept or deny them. If the general disagrees with the board, the case could go to the secretary of the Navy. Stein’s lawyers argued that the 9-year Marine, whose service was to end in four months, was expressing his personal views and exercising his First Amendment rights. “We’re truly surprised and disappointed but it was an honor to fight for a hero like Sgt. Stein and every other Marine’s right to speak freely,” Stein’s defense attorney Marine Capt. James Baehr said. During the hearing, the prosecutor, Capt. John Torresala, said Stein went as far as superimposing images of Obama’s face on a poster for the movie “Jackass.” Torresala argued that Stein’s behavior repeatedly violated Pentagon policy that limits the free speech rights of service members, and said he should be dismissed after ignoring warnings from his superiors about his postings. The government submitted screen grabs of Stein’s postings on one Facebook page he created called Armed Forces Tea Party, which the prosecutor said included the image of Obama on the “Jackass” movie poster. Stein also superimposed Obama’s image on a poster for “The Incredibles” movie that he changed to “The Horribles,” the prosecutor said. Torresala also said anti-Obama comments by Stein that were posted on a Facebook page used by Marine meteorologists were prejudicial to good order and discipline, and could have influenced junior Marines. Stein’s security clearance was taken away and he has no future in the Marine Corps because he can’t do his job without that clearance, Torresala said. “The Marine Corps community views the command’s lack of action as some kind of knock on good order and discipline,” Torresala said. “Our own people are questioning why this Marine is not being held accountable.” Stein has said his opinions are his own and has put a disclaimer on his Facebook page saying so. His attorneys argued service members have a right to voice their opinions as long as they do not appear to be presenting their views as being endorsed by the military. They say the Pentagon policy is vague and military officials do not understand it. The Marine Corps has said it decided to take administrative action after Stein declared on Facebook that he would not follow orders from Obama and later clarified that statement saying he would not follow unlawful orders. Stein could face other-than-honorable discharge while seeing his rank reduced to lance corporal and losing his benefits. The nine-year veteran was set to finish his service in four months. He said he was removed from his job at the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot in San Diego last month and given a desk job with no access to computers. Stein said his statement about Obama was part of an online debate about NATO allowing U.S. troops to be tried for the Quran burnings in Afghanistan. In that context, he said, he was stating that he would not follow orders from the president if it involved detaining U.S. citizens, disarming them or doing anything else that he believes would violate their constitutional rights. Trayvon Martin’s cousin, Ronquavis Fulton, said that he didn’t believe Trayvon would ever “circle back” to fight George Zimmerman after trying to evade him. Fulton said that Martin was a “well-mannered, soft spoken person,” and claims that he was the aggressor are “totally unbelievable.” He also said that he’s sure the voice on the 911 recordings is Trayvon’s. Geraldo Riveria Apologizes For Trayvon Martin Hoodie Comments Do you forgive this guy??? Fox News host Geraldo Rivera on Tuesday apologized for saying that the fact that Trayvon Martin was wearing a hoodie had as much to do with his death as George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who shot the teen. “Heard petition demands my apology to Trayvon’s parents,” he said on his Facebook page. “Save effort: I deeply apologize for any hurt I caused — that is not my goal or intent.” Rivera elaborated on his thoughts in an email to Politico.com, offering an apology while also noting that earlier an unnamed “prominent black conservative” had commented on “my ‘very practical and potentially life-saving campaign urging black and Hispanic parents not to let their children go around wearing hoodies.’” Last week on Fox & Friends Rivera stated that “I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was.” Rivera later acknowledged that his own son Gabriel was “ashamed” of him for stating that.
