Good Idea or Bad Idea?? Oprah Has Been Invited To Do A Show Live From Tahrir Square In Egypt

They did Joe Pesci this same way in ‘Goodfellas’, sounds like a set-up if you ask us… Oprah has received an invitation from Egypt’s new minister of tourism to do a show in Cairo’s Tahrir Square–the center of the recent Egyptian revolution. It’s part of an effort by the minister, Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour, to boost tourism to the country. Nour also invited other celebrities to come to Egypt. Tahrir Square in particular is becoming a tourist destination, with several guided tours already set up for people to see the focal point of Egypt’s historic uprising. USA Today says that some American travel companies are resuming trips to Egypt in March (tourism has been down in the country following last month’s uprising). But there’s no word on whether Oprah will be there to greet them. (After all, she’s already taken one rather extensive trip this season.) You might want to give this one some thought Oprah. Although the revolt is over, there may still be some bad blood over there, and you don’t want to end up like Anderson Cooper… Do you think it’s safe for Oprah to do a show in Egypt?? Source

President Obama Tells Ghadafi The Jig Is Up, Time To Go!

The leaders of the free world have made their support for the people of Libya clear. Now, President Obama has made it official. Obama for the first time called for Khadafy to step down as the UN Security Council hit the embattled strongman with stiff sanctions. “When a leader’s only means of staying in power is to use mass violence against his own people, he has lost the legitimacy to rule and needs to do what is right for his country by leaving now,” Obama told German Chancellor Angela Merkel, according to a summary of the conversation provided by the White House. Obama’s blunt message marked a departure for the White House, which had earlier insisted it was up to the Libyan people to decide who should lead their country. Hours after Obama’s pronouncement, the council ordered an arms embargo, assets freeze and travel ban against the Libyan government, Khadafy, his close family and associates. It also ordered a crimes against humanity investigation into the bloodshed. Khadafy, earlier in the day, signaled he had no intention of giving up power as he handed out guns to his supporters and urged teams of young men to hunt down dissidents. Terrified anti-government protestors braced themselves for more bloody battles as gunfire continued to ring out across the capital. Condemnation mounted from world leaders the day after Obama authorized U.S. sanctions against Libya, with Italy’s Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi saying it appeared Khadafy was no longer in control. The dictator’s son, Seif al-Islam, dismissed suggestions the country was slipping from his father’s hands, saying three-quarters of the country remains under government rule and was “living in peace.” He added that if anti-government demonstrations by “terrorists” do not end, Libya risks descending into civil war “like Somalia.” News filtering out of Libya painted an entirely different picture as new details emerged of the violent methods used to quash the protesters in recent days. The New York Times reported loyal Khadafy forces shot at people from within ambulances and used anti-aircraft guns against crowds. Witnesses said the dead and injured were being rounded up and taken from hospitals to cover up the alleged human rights abuses. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said more than 1,000 people have died in the unrest in Libya, but it has been impossible to establish an exact death toll. Do you think this means U.S. troops will be heading to Libya in the immediate future? That’s what it’s sounding like to us… Source

SMH: Foxy Brown Still Hasn’t Gotten Her Life Together

Two years into her 30s and all these years out of her career, we would hope that Foxy Brown had gotten some of dumb sh*t out of her system. Sadly, as TMZ reports , she’s still causing a scene and getting kicked out of venues. Foxy Brown was escorted out of a fashion show party in NYC Wednesday night … TMZ has learned — after the female rapper allegedly showed up intoxicated … long after she was scheduled to perform. Sources at Red Bull Space in Soho — which hosted the after party for Indashio’s fashion show — tell TMZ, Foxy showed up at 1:20AM … ten minutes before the entire party was supposed to shut down. We’re told everyone was already on their way out when Foxy came in — and decided to lock herself in a bathroom … and refuse to come out. According to sources, security was called … and Foxy was physically removed from the building. SMH. Where are her brothers? Can’t anyone rain this broad in?? Spragga Benz?? Rick Ross?? Somebody???

China Don’t Play That Sh*t: Protest Squashed Before It Even Starts

The people of China thought they could do what the Africans and Arabs are doing. There government had a much more effective way of dealing with unhappy citizens though. Jittery Chinese authorities staged a show of force to squelch a mysterious online call for a “Jasmine Revolution,” with hundreds of onlookers but only a handful of people actively joining protests inspired by pro-democracy demonstrations sweeping the Middle East. Authorities detained activists Sunday, increased the number of police on the streets, disconnected some cell phone text messaging services and censored Internet postings about the call to stage protests in Beijing, Shanghai and 11 other major cities. Police took at least three people away in Beijing, one of whom tried to place white jasmine flowers on a planter while hundreds of people milled about the protest gathering spot, outside a McDonald’s on the capital’s busiest shopping street. In Shanghai, police led away three people near the planned protest spot after they scuffled in an apparent bid to grab the attention of passers-by. Many activists said they didn’t know who was behind the campaign and weren’t sure what to make of the call to protest, which first circulated Saturday on the U.S.-based Chinese-language news website Boxun.com. The unsigned notice called for a “Jasmine Revolution” – the name given to the Tunisian protest movement – and urged people “to take responsibility for the future.” Participants were urged to shout, “We want food, we want work, we want housing, we want fairness” – a slogan that highlights common complaints among Chinese. Maybe next time you don’t use a public forum like the internet to organize… Source

Inspired By Egypt, The People Of Lybia Ask Moammar Khadafy To Give Them Free

The uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia have inspired a few more uprisings by oppressed people elsewhere in Africa and the Middle East. Unfortunately, as motivated as the people are, in each country the desire for freedom is bringing the same thing: violence. Dozens of protesters were killed in clashes with Libyan security forces in the nation’s second-largest city Saturday as protests against eccentric dictator Moammar Khadafy stretched into a fifth day. The worst uprisings in Khadafy’s 42 years of power continued as government snipers killed 15 mourners attending the funerals of slain protesters in Benghazi. But a witness said the death toll was much higher. “Dozens were killed…not 15, dozens. We are in the midst of a massacre here,” the witness said. The government also cut off Internet access across the nation, blocking the anti-Khadafy protesters from posting photos and video. Human rights officials estimate the death toll in the demonstrations has now hit 84 as the Khadafy regime lashes out at its opponents. A similar scene played out on the streets of Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, where one demonstrator was shot to death and five wounded during protests against President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Protesters, now in the 10th day of demonstrations, are demanding Saleh’s resignation after 32 years under his rule. Between all the death and destruction of protest, we just hope these people are able to enjoy their freedom once they finally get it. Source

One Of Sarah Palin’s Most Trusted Advisers Is Completing A Memoir That Will Reveal How Dumb This Silly Broad Really Is

This oughta be a damn good read! JUNEAU, Alaska — One of Sarah Palin’s trusted advisers is planning a tell-all memoir, drawing upon thousands of personal e-mails during his time with the former Alaska governor to paint what his agent calls an expose of the inner workings of her operation. Frank Bailey rose from a campaign volunteer to administration official and figure in the “Troopergate” scandal that fixated the public’s attention during Palin’s vice presidential bid in 2008. A preliminary draft of the unpublished book, tentatively called “Blind Allegiance to Sarah Palin: A Memoir of our Tumultuous Years,” was leaked to reporters, with excerpts making the rounds on the Internet. Messages to a Palin aide and attorney weren’t immediately returned Friday. Ken Morris, a California-based writer who worked with Bailey on the manuscript, said in an e-mail that the material is preliminary, subject to copyright protections and not authorized for use. The New York-based Carol Mann Agency, in an e-mail promoting the manuscript, said the “revelations and insights” that Bailey offers “are more necessary than ever, as the public will seek to learn as much as possible about the woman who seems to have her sights set on the national stage.” The agency referred calls to Morris, who said that he, Bailey and co-writer Jeanne Devon did “tons of research” for the book, which still has no publisher. Devon, an Alaska blogger, is a frequent critic of Palin. Morris said he believes the manuscript paints an accurate portrait of Palin but declined to elaborate. “I think we should leave it at that,” he said. The manuscript, which Morris said is subject to change and “may not materially reflect the eventual product,” states that Palin, before resigning partway through her first term, wrote to Bailey and another aide, “I hate this damn job.” That’s good Sarah because we hated you having it! And we hate that fact that you’re trying to get another job too! Just stay in Alaska and never, ever, return… Source

Quotes Of The Day: Chris Rock’s Interview With Esquire Magazine

Chris Rock is always good for spot-on soundbite, or in this case block-quote, but during his sit-down with Esquire he drops more than a few good ones. On Lebron James: CR: I don’t even see what the big story is. SR: Cleveland’s hurting, Chris. CR: Cleveland deserves to hurt. I said that wrong. Deservedly so, hurts. But I’m telling you, weather alone should’ve been cause for panic. SR: He’s got a LOYALTY tattoo. CR: Loyalty to friends. And all his friends are right there. God bless him. SR: They all wanted him to stay. CR: No, they didn’t. They all wanted to go. And by the way, he’s surrounded by six 25-year-old black guys — where do you think they want to be? They want to be in Miami. SR: I know that you’re right. I’m just having a hard time getting over it. CR: It’s the weather, dude. I can’t believe no one’s written that article. If Dwyane Wade played in Milwaukee, LeBron would not be in fucking Milwaukee. On the level ambition of other comics compared to his own: SR: The comics I’ve talked to have varied styles as stand-ups, but the throughline is that it’s the most intense thing they’ve ever done. CR: Yeah. A lot of guys are great, but they don’t want to hit hard. To hit like Tyson up there, that shit is — I just presented some award to Oprah at the Kennedy Center. I probably did four minutes, five minutes. It’s weird — you go up there, it’s like, what’s the guy in Lord of the Rings who puts on the ring and he’s invisible? Then he lets it off and he’s sweating, like it’s so hard to be fucking invisible. It’s hard to hit homers. I try to hit homers. I’m not a singles hitter. I’m swinging like Sheffield every fucking time. As hard as I can. On the the Tea Party: SR: Like many nice Caucasians, I cried the night Barack Obama was elected. It was one of the high points in American history. And all that’s happened since the election is just a shitstorm of hatred. You want to weigh in on that? CR: I actually like it, in the sense that — you got kids? Kids always act up the most before they go to sleep. And when I see the Tea Party and all this stuff, it actually feels like racism’s almost over. Because this is the last — this is the act up before the sleep. They’re going crazy. They’re insane. You want to get rid of them — and the next thing you know, they’re fucking knocked out. And that’s what’s going on in the country right now. Chris Rock is definitely the master of tickling your funny bone, while at the same time making you think. Source
