WTF? Cardboard Cutouts Of Lynched Black People Found Hanging Around UC Berkeley Campus

What exactly are they trying to say with this??? Disturbing figures of lynched Black bodies were discovered hanging in various locations on UC Berkeley’s campus early Saturday morning. The figures featured the name of the lynching victims and were stamped with the phrase #Icantbreathe, which in the wake of the Eric Garner grand jury decision , has become a rallying cry for police brutality protesters . Naturally, this left most confused as to the intent of the figures — are they meant to offend or to call attention to the issue? Via The Root : The Associated Press is reporting that three cardboard cutouts of black people were found hanging by nooses Saturday on the Berkeley campus of the University of California. University spokeswoman Amy Hamaoui said police are investigating the incident to determine who hanged the effigies that were found at two prominent campus locations Saturday morning, the report says. The spokeswoman told the AP that the effigies appeared to connected to a nearby noon-time demonstration that coincided with #BlackLivesMatter protests around the country. The effigies appear to be life-size photos of lynching victims. Two depicted men and a third was a photograph of a female victim, the report says. The effigies had names of lynching victims and the dates of their death. At least one effigy had “I Can’t Breathe” printed on the front, the report says. “We are unsure of the intent,” Hamaoui said. Organizers of the Berkeley protest were also confounded by the offensive imagery, which has deep roots in America’s racist past, especially in the Reconstruction era when blacks were lynched as a measure to exert white supremacy. “We just hope it’s someone who wanted to bring attention to the issue,” Spencer Pritchard, 21, a U.C. Berkeley student and an organizer of the demonstration, told the news outlet. He said about 200 protesters demonstrated in Berkeley with the goal to “disrupt business as usual to show that black lives matter,” the report says. As it turns out, the effigies were intended to draw attention to the ONGOING issue of law-enforcement violence against Blacks that has plagued this country since it’s inception. Our friends over at BallerAlert were able to snag this closeup photo of the femals cut out and the story behind it: Interesting. Definitely striking imagery to get the point across. What do you think of this protest action, Bossip Fam?

Laugh & Learn: Chris Rock Talks Racism, Politics, Bill Cosby And More With Vulture

Chris Rock should be in your top five of all-time In promotion of his new film, Top Five , Chris Rock sat down for an in-depth interview with VULTURE , and he dropped jewels like no one else can. On “controversial” SNL monologue You recently hosted Saturday Night Live, and in the monologue, where you were talking about the opening of One World Trade, my wife and I both felt just like you: No way are we going into that building. But you look online the next morning, and some people were offended2and accused you of disparaging the 9/11 victims. The political correctness that was thought to be dead is now— Oh, it’s back stronger than ever. I don’t pay that much attention to it. I mean, you don’t want to piss off the people that are paying you, obviously, but otherwise I’ve just been really good at ignoring it. Honestly, it’s not that people were offended by what I said. They get offended by how much fun I appear to be having while saying it. You could literally take everything I said on Saturday night and say it on Meet the Press, and it would be a general debate, and it would go away. But half of it’s because they think they can hurt comedians. On Bill Maher What do you make of the attempt to bar Bill Maher from speaking at Berkeley for his riff on Muslims? Well, I love Bill, but I stopped playing colleges, and the reason is because they’re way too conservative. In their political views? Not in their political views — not like they’re voting Republican — but in their social views and their willingness not to offend anybody. Kids raised on a culture of “We’re not going to keep score in the game because we don’t want anybody to lose.” Or just ignoring race to a fault. You can’t say “the black kid over there.” No, it’s “the guy with the red shoes.” You can’t even be offensive on your way to being inoffensive. Saints Player Benjamin Watson Posts Viral Commentary On Mike Brown’s Shooting Death — “I Don’t Know Why It’s So Hard To Obey A Policeman”

Do you agree?? Saints Player Benjamin Watson Posts Thoughts On Ferguson Ruling And Fallout Saints Player Benjamin Watson posted a status update regarding his thoughts on the Ferguson, MO grand jury’s failure to indict Darren Wilson , and it has quickly become a viral phenomenon. In the open letter, Watson expresses a range of conflicting emotions over the circumstances surrounding Mike Brown’s killing , including sympathy for Darren Wilson due to “not knowing what really happened,” confusion as to why Mike Brown couldn’t just obey police orders, embarrassment at the rioting in the wake of the decision, and hopefulness that faith will fix it all. Via Facebook : At some point while I was playing or preparing to play Monday Night Football, the news broke about the Ferguson Decision. After trying to figure out how I felt, I decided to write it down. Here are my thoughts: I’M ANGRY because the stories of injustice that have been passed down for generations seem to be continuing before our very eyes. I’M FRUSTRATED, because pop culture, music and movies glorify these types of police citizen altercations and promote an invincible attitude that continues to get young men killed in real life, away from safety movie sets and music studios. I’M FEARFUL because in the back of my mind I know that although I’m a law abiding citizen I could still be looked upon as a “threat” to those who don’t know me. So I will continue to have to go the extra mile to earn the benefit of the doubt. I’M EMBARRASSED because the looting, violent protests, and law breaking only confirm, and in the minds of many, validate, the stereotypes and thus the inferior treatment. I’M SAD, because another young life was lost from his family, the racial divide has widened, a community is in shambles, accusations, insensitivity hurt and hatred are boiling over, and we may never know the truth about what happened that day. I’M SYMPATHETIC, because I wasn’t there so I don’t know exactly what happened. Maybe Darren Wilson acted within his rights and duty as an officer of the law and killed Michael Brown in self defense like any of us would in the circumstance. Now he has to fear the backlash against himself and his loved ones when he was only doing his job. What a horrible thing to endure. OR maybe he provoked Michael and ignited the series of events that led to him eventually murdering the young man to prove a point. I’M OFFENDED, because of the insulting comments I’ve seen that are not only insensitive but dismissive to the painful experiences of others. I’M CONFUSED, because I don’t know why it’s so hard to obey a policeman. You will not win!!! And I don’t know why some policeman abuse their power. Power is a responsibility, not a weapon to brandish and lord over the populace. I’M INTROSPECTIVE, because sometimes I want to take “our” side without looking at the facts in situations like these. Sometimes I feel like it’s us against them. Sometimes I’m just as prejudiced as people I point fingers at. And that’s not right. How can I look at white skin and make assumptions but not want assumptions made about me? That’s not right. I’M HOPELESS, because I’ve lived long enough to expect things like this to continue to happen. I’m not surprised and at some point my little children are going to inherit the weight of being a minority and all that it entails. I’M HOPEFUL, because I know that while we still have race issues in America, we enjoy a much different normal than those of our parents and grandparents. I see it in my personal relationships with teammates, friends and mentors. And it’s a beautiful thing. I’M ENCOURAGED, because ultimately the problem is not a SKIN problem, it is a SIN problem. SIN is the reason we rebel against authority. SIN is the reason we abuse our authority. SIN is the reason we are racist, prejudiced and lie to cover for our own. SIN is the reason we riot, loot and burn. BUT I’M ENCOURAGED because God has provided a solution for sin through the his son Jesus and with it, a transformed heart and mind. One that’s capable of looking past the outward and seeing what’s truly important in every human being. The cure for the Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice and Eric Garner tragedies is not education or exposure. It’s the Gospel. So, finally, I’M ENCOURAGED because the Gospel gives mankind hope. Hmmm, he covered a lot here. What do you feel about what he had to say??

Peaceful #JusticeForMikeBrown Protests Flood Highways Across The Nation [VIDEO]

The people have spoken. We want justice. Peaceful Protests Spring Up Across America In Response To Ferguson Grand Jury Verdict Via CNN : From New York to Los Angeles and dozens and dozens of cities in between, protesters flooded the streets to denounce a Missouri grand jury’s decision not to indict Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson. A day after the country learned Wilson won’t face criminal charges for killing unarmed teenager Michael Brown, protests sprouted up in more than 170 U.S. cities. Some demonstrations blocked bridges, tunnels and major highways. But unlike the violence that erupted in Ferguson on Monday night, the protests across the country Tuesday night were largely peaceful.
