If you follow me on twitter , you probably remember me mildly obsessing over the debut of Beth Ditto’s solo EP, produced by Simian Mobile Disco. Now, the first video accompanying that EP has been released for “I Wrote the Book.” I love it!! What do you think? I know some die-hards of The Gossip that haven’t been won-over by her solo venture yet, but I’m a major fan. It gives me instant smiles and makes… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : nicolette mason Discovery Date : 17/02/2011 22:41 Number of articles : 3

‘Atlas Shrugged’ Trailer

Think back to the biggest development disasters of 2010. High on the list without a doubt, and perhaps topping the list, was Atlas Shrugged. In development for years, by 2009 the Ayn Rand novel was riding a newfound wave of popularity thanks to the economic collapse of late 2008, and also to a sense of post-Obama malaise within the conservative right. There was a point where it seemed like the book… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : /Film Discovery Date : 12/02/2011 01:51 Number of articles : 2

Jack Black To Host Kids’ Choice Awards For Third Time

‘If you host a third time, that means the first time wasn’t a fluke, and it means you did good two times,’ the funnyman says. By Aly Semigran Jack Black Photo: Andrew H. Walker/Getty Images Jack Black clearly takes no issue with getting slimed. The comedic actor will endure the green mystery substance once again as he is set to take on hosting duties for Nickelodeon’s 24th annual Kids’ Choice Awards for the third time. He helped hand out the coveted blimps in both 2006 and 2008 . “Jack Black is the perfect mix of comedy, rock and star-power that will set the tone for an amazing show,” Kids’ Choice Executive Producer Marjorie Cohn said. “Jack is always an exciting host because of his unpredictability, incredible comedic timing and ability to connect with our audience. We’re really excited to have him back.” Entertainment Weekly spoke to Nickelodeon head of talent Paula Kaplan, who had similar feelings about the “Kung Fu Panda 2” star: “It’s not like hosting the Oscars where you’re performing for a bunch of adults who’ll laugh and pretend they like it because that’s the polite thing to do. Kids wear their emotions on their sleeves, and if they don’t like it, they’ll tell you. So some adults are fearful of that honesty. Jack is up for anything.” Black, who starred in last year’s kid-friendly “Gulliver’s Travels” and has previously appeared on the Nick series “iCarly” and “Yo Gabba Gabba,” told the mag, “Anyone can host something once. But if they ask you back a second time, that means they liked the way you did it. And if you host a third time, that means the first time wasn’t a fluke, and it means you did good two times. So the third time, well — that’s the real achievement.” It seems the 41-year-old star is ready to endure the mayhem the show tends to bring with it and has even set the bar higher for himself. Black, who in addition to hosting will face off against Johnny Depp, Dwayne Johnson and Jaden Smith for Favorite Movie Actor, told EW, “You wanna top the last one. I’ve had some pretty dynamic opening numbers. I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but ‘I Was Made for Sliming You, Baby’? That was one for the ages.” Nominees for the 2011 Kids Choice Awards — which will air live from Los Angeles on Saturday, April 2, at 8 p.m. on Nickelodeon — include Kristen Stewart, Will Ferrell, Justin Bieber, Cameron Diaz, Tom Hanks, Miley Cyrus, Emma Watson, Robert Downey Jr., Steve Carell, Peyton Manning, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and Miranda Cosgrove, among others. Fan voting begins online March 7. Are you glad Jack Black is hosting again? Let us know in the comments!

Clipse’s Malice Helps Fans ‘Appreciate’ What They Have In Debut Book

‘Every time I told the story, everyone was totally amazed,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting Cristopher Schafer and Samuel Rogers Malice Photo: Samuel Rogers and Cristopher Schafer Fire Starter: Gene “Malice” Thornton Clipse’s Gene “Malice” Thornton might not be a rookie, but the MC — who has blessed us with a bevy of healthy verses over Neptunes production throughout the years — is a first-time author, readying the release of his book “Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind, and Naked.” Admittedly, a literary career wasn’t in the plans for the former armed forces member. But after a tumultuous period in his life that Malice said began in 2008 (he didn’t elaborate on the incidents; a year later, in 2009, longtime Clipse manager Anthony “Geezy” Gonzalez was charged with leading a multimillion-dollar drug ring), he had a story that he would repeat often, and the idea for a book arose. “Every time I told the story, everyone was totally amazed,” he explained. “The story is nothing short of phenomenal. I thought I was gonna be rapping, and I still rap; I’m gonna keep making music. But I had to stop what I was doing for a minute to really get this burden off my chest. And it’s basically the vehicle that’s gonna shed light on life and it’s gonna open up the eyes of any young person that’s aspiring to be, not just in hip-hop, but music, sports, doctors, lawyers, whatever your profession is. It’s just gonna help you be focused and learn to appreciate what you already have.” As the title suggests, “Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind, and Naked” has a spiritual angle. Leaning on his faith, however, is nothing new, Malice said. Since the Brothers Thornton first arrived on the scene with their debut album (which was shelved by Elektra Records), their rhymes have been imbued with the Lord’s guide to living. “This thing just happened, but all of my fans know, and people who have listened to my music, they have always heard me referring to my faith, even from the first album, Exclusive Audio Footage, it gave some insight into my beliefs. I was just listening to a song form that album, I had an interlude called ‘The Prayer,’ and right after that, there’s a song called ‘Watch Over Me,’ and after I listened to that, it just confirmed who I am and who I already been. I think what happened was I strayed away from my faith and I wasn’t practicing it. I was doing what I wanted to do, whatever I felt like doing. Doing what everybody else was doing.” Now, he’s rededicated and preparing to put out his tome on Monday, Valentine’s Day. “A lot of people want more, more, more, and I think it’s just important that you stop and realize where you’re at right now and try not to take anything for granted,” he said. Saigon Finally Tells The Greatest Story Never Told

‘This album is my offering to hip-hop,’ he tells Mixtape Daily of long-awaited debut. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Rahman Dukes Saigon Photo: MTV News Mixtape Daily Main Pick Street King : Saigon Holding It Down For : Mooseknuckle to Brownsville Independent LP : The Greatest Story Never Told Real Spit : “This ain’t about a mixtape, this is about my story,” Saigon, a Mixtape Daily favorite, told us when we asked him about his upcoming project. “I know you know me from the mixtapes, but this is the album, the debut.” Pardon the intensity, but our Brooklyn brother has been hard at work on this project for more than a few years, and his labor of love is just weeks away from finally seeing the light of day. “This album is my offering to hip-hop,” Sai said. “There’s no jumping from story to story. It’s put together like a story, from start to beginning. And I think it’s a great piece of work that people are gonna appreciate.” The New York rhyme spitter has a tale that’s as in-depth as his poetics on wax. He was one of the Big Apple’s finest upstarts in years and inked a deal with Atlantic Records. He later raged against the machine, however, with his blistering “Trans-Atlantic Slave Deal” when he felt he was being pushed to deliver pop hits and later parted ways with the label. On February 15, the rapper will finally release a collective of material that showcases his full range of skills, from his booming voice, passionate delivery and lively topical offerings. After delivering a couple of warning shots, Saigon is in storytelling mode now. Joints to Check For

Cheryl Burke Opens Up About Childhood Molestation

‘They’re not secrets. There’s no shame,’ ‘Dancing With the Stars’ pro says about new book, ‘Lessons.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe Cheryl Burke Photo: Angela Weiss/ Getty Images She’s well-known as a “Dancing With the Stars” champ, but now Cheryl Burke is opening up about her struggles off the dance floor. The championship hoofer is speaking about her past sexual abuse at the hands of a family friend in her book “Dancing Lessons.” According to People magazine, Burke was molested by a retired mailman in her Bay Area neighborhood who would occasionally pick her up from school and handle odd jobs around the house and started to abuse her when she was 5. “I’m telling my story,” Burke told People. “They’re not secrets. There’s no shame.” Burke later testified against her abuser once revelations of possible assaults on other children surfaced and also spoke candidly of her ambivalence about taking the stand against him. “I felt guilty for wanting his love and affection,” she explained, adding that taking the stand was “the hardest thing I’ve ever done … I saw his face and lawyers were asking me these questions and I was like, ‘What am I doing? Did he even do anything wrong?’ ” Burke also opens up in the book about the physical abuse she endured from two different ex-boyfriends, and said, “If I can help just one person, for me that’s all that matters.” The revealing book , which is co-written by People senior writer Monica Rizzo, also focuses on her “Dancing” tenure and will include lessons she has learned from celebrity dance partners like Drew Lachey and Chad Ochocinco. “Lessons” will also touch on Burke’s issues with her weight and media scrutiny. After the release of her book in February, Burke is slated to return to the 12th season of “Dancing” in March.

Jim Sturgess Picks Up Survival Tips Filming ‘The Way Back’

‘We skinned rabbits, we did all kinds of crazy stuff like that,’ he tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Jim Sturgess Photo: MTV News When a film shoots “on location,” there is an added air of glitz and glamour. Thoughts of far-off exotic countries and stars getting pampered in fancy trailers come to mind. That was not the case on the set of “The Way Back,” however. Because the film is based on the real-life story of a group of inmates who escape the Siberian Gulag during World War II and must walk more than 4,000 miles to freedom, the actors were put through similar trials and tribulations (or as close as they could get to the real suffering, without endangering themselves) during production. When MTV News caught up with Jim Sturgess (“21,” “Across the Universe”), we asked him if he and his castmates (including Colin Farrell and Ed Harris) managed to pick up any survival tips throughout the process. “Don’t eat yellow snow,” he joked. “No, there were loads. We were really lucky. We were able to be put in touch with a guy who had actually done the walk for real. A French expeditionist, a guy called Cyril Delafosse-Guiramand. He was an amazing guy. He basically read the book [on which the film is loosely based] ‘The Long Walk,’ and after reading that book decided he was going to take the trek from Siberia to India himself. He had his own food — he didn’t just survive off the land — but he was just an amazing man to have around.” Before they started filming, Sturgess said the cast got together and learned a few basic survival skills, none of which he mastered. “It was just building fires and how to find dry moss in snowy conditions and the best way to construct a fire, where to do it,” Sturgess recalled. “We skinned rabbits, we did all kinds of crazy stuff like that, we felled trees, and he was teaching me lots of navigational techniques, how to navigate yourself north and south using shadows from sticks, from the sun rising. It was cool. We all enjoyed it.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Way Back.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Kristen Stewart Wants To Set Up Charity For Sex Workers

KStew tells Vogue how her Welcome to the Rileys role inspired idea. By Eric Ditzian Kristen Stewart in the February issue of Vogue Photo: Vogue/ Mario Testino Kristen Stewart has said on several occasions that her role as a runaway prostitute in “Welcome to the Rileys” was the most personally affecting of her career. “If you do a movie, especially this one — it’s not the easiest thing subject-matter-wise — it stuck with me,” she told MTV News in October. The film continues to stick with her, so much so that she hopes one day to take her vast earnings and set up a charitable organization to aid women in a similar situation to her character. According to an interview in Vogue, the 20-year-old actress is assembling a plan to establish a network of halfway houses to support runaways who wind up in the sex trade. “That would be amazing,” she said. “Right now, it’s the thing I feel most connected to.” At the moment, though, she’s fully consumed with filming the two parts of “Breaking Dawn” in Baton Rouge. “It’s starting to enter my head a lot more than it used to because it’s at the end, and it’s come such a long way. I just want the fans of the book to be happy. I don’t necessarily care about anyone else.” Returning to the “Twilight” franchise after filming the low-budget adaptation of “On the Road” was an experience she likened to “going back to school” — except she’s hardly an average schoolgirl. As she has discussed time and time again, Stewart continues to be affected by the isolating aspects of worldwide superstardom. “There’s no way to eloquently put this,” the 20-year-old said. “I just can’t go to the mall. It bothers me that I can’t be outside very often. And also to not ever be just ‘some girl’ again. Just being some chick at some place, that’s gone.” Instead, she often stays inside, watching the Food Network and working on various recipes. “You build a perimeter of people that are really important to you,” she explained. Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
