Tea Partiers Boycott MSNBC Advertisers Over ‘Slanderous’ Documentary

Some Tea Party leaders are calling for conservatives to boycott MSNBC’s advertisers, after the network ran a documentary on June 16 that they say unfairly slandered the movement. Two of the Tea Party leaders interviewed in the Chris Matthews-narrated documentary are asking supporters to write, call and fax the offices of Dawn and its parent company Proctor and Gamble and request that they cease giving advertising dollars to Matthews’ “Hardball” program on MSNBC. FreedomWorks chairman Dick Armey and Kitchen Table Patriots member Ana Puig jointly called the documentary a “propaganda piece” and urged Tea Party groups around the country to boycott Dawn products. “The program ‘Rise of the New Right’ was low-ball journalism at its worst,” said the Kitchen Table Patriots in a statement released today. “Chris Matthews and his Hardball program slandered the Tea Party movement, and misled the American people by distorting facts about the Tea Party movement, its motivations and its history.” Brendan Steinhauser, a grassroots director at FreedomWorks, noted that other groups like the American Grassroots Coalition, the National Tea Party Federation, Tea Party Nation and Liberty Central have also signed on to the boycott. Critics say that Matthews’ documentary smeared Tea Partiers as “violent,” “conspiracy theorists,” and “racists” by relying heavily on insinuations, heavily edited sound bites, and allegations from left-wing activist groups. The introduction of the video splices back-to-back shots of militia members firing guns with Tea Party protesters holding up signs criticizing President Obama’s policies, as ominous music droned in the background. In one segment, Matthews appeared to insinuate that FreedomWorks leader Armey is supportive of “birthers,” a group of fringe conspiracy theorists who believe President Obama wasn’t born in the U.S. “While not embracing birthers, many conservative leaders refuse to separate from them,” said Matthews in a voiceover that led in to an interview Matthews held with Armey. “Barack Obama’s citizenship, is that a real case or not?” asks Matthews. “There’s a venue for that. Probably in the courts,” Armey replied. But Steinhauser, who organizes FreedomWorks’ national events, says that any suggestion that Armey sympathizes with birthers is “just ridiculous.” “[The documentary] obviously didn’t give his full answer,” said Steinhauser. “At our events we’ve been approached by just about every birther in the book. We kept [birthers] Allan Keyes [and] Orly Taitz as far as possible from our big September 12 event. I told them ‘that’s not who we are – go have your own rally.’ The movement out and out rejects that.” And other facts presented in the documentary don’t appear to stand up to scrutiny. At one point in the video, Mark Potok, a director at the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) warned Matthews’ that “we’ve gone from numbers like, you know, 170 militias to well over 500.” But the SPLC’s most recent report on right-wing groups released in Spring 2010 claimed that it only defines 127 organizations in the U.S. as “militias.” Steinhauser said that getting the message out about the boycott is just the first step in the campaign. “This is just the beginning stages. We’ve got some other things planned down the road in the days and weeks to come,” he said. For further analysis of Matthews’ documentary, see Lachlan Markey’s Newsbusters report .

“Jihad, Crips, extreme animal-rights activists, it’s all the same,” Says Homeland Security Official

Last week a Philadelphia appellate court announced (after months of silence) that it would not revisit the conviction of animal rights activists on terrorism charges. The SHAC 7 were convicted of conspiring to commit animal enterprise terrorism by running a controversial website that posted news of both legal and illegal actions, along with personal information of people connected to the notorious animal testing lab Huntingdon Life Sciences. Their campaign had brought the multinational corporation near bankruptcy. A three-judge panel of the court had previously upheld the conviction, and the defendants had asked that the full court review it. Now, the only option is to request that the Supreme Court of the United States review the case. There has been no official word about this yet, but multiple defendants have expressed their interest and having this landmark First Amendment case heard by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the lead prosecutor who helped secure this “victory in the War on Terrorism” has– surprise, surprise– been promoted. Charles McKenna is now the head of the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness. He was quoted a few days ago about his hopes for using new “anti-terrorism technology” in his new job. “We are particularly interested in computer profiling, which is much more sophisticated, and quicker, than traditional racial profiling,” he said. The targets of this new profiling technology? “Jihad, Crips, extreme animal-rights activists, it’s all the same: people trying damage the system,” added McKenna.“We need every trick in the book to avert disaster.” As you can see in this photo, the SHAC 7 are quite gangsta. But no reasonable person could argue that they are the “same” as violent street gangs and Islamic terrorists. Such absurd scare-mongering rhetoric has become normal for corporations, industry groups, and the politicians who represent them. When it is adopted by government officials who are in charge of keeping us safe, though, it has frightening implications. There are limited anti-terrorism and law enforcement resources. When people like McKenna let shameless political opportunism shape security priorities (and make no mistake, this is nothing but political opportunism–he has already been rewarded for defending the “system” from activists), it puts everyone at risk. added by: animalia_libero

Taylor Lautner Only Goes Shirtless When ‘There’s Reasons Behind It’

‘Eclipse’ star talks to GQ about how he’s avoided gratuitous stripping for other roles. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Lautner in “New Moon” Photo: Summit Entertainment Taylor Lautner takes off his shirt a lot in “New Moon” and “Eclipse,” which comes out on June 30. But, as he told MTV News earlier this week, he still feels awkward stripping for those scenes as Jacob in the “Twilight Saga,” and he’s not about to show off his abs for just any role. “Originally I was supposed to take off my shirt [in ‘Valentine’s Day,’]” Lautner says in the July issue of GQ, on newsstands June 22. [LINK] “The script said we were walking into school and ‘ Willy takes off his shirt. ‘ I said, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa. Time out. He’s gonna take off his shirt in the middle of school? No, no, no.’ The reason I took off my shirt for ‘New Moon’ is because it’s written in the book that way. And there’s reasons behind it.” Though he’s not into displaying it gratuitously, Lautner work extra hard to get and maintain that physique in the first place, and he described for GQ readers how he motivated himself during workouts. “I’m in the gym, and I’m doing reps, and I’m reading the books, and I’m studying the character,” he recalled. “I’m just saying to myself, ‘I want this role. I love this role. I’m not gonna lose it. And I’m gonna know it better than anybody. And I’m gonna do that extra rep, because I’m gonna be Jacob Black.’ ” In the issue, the 18-year-old also talks about why he’s still living at home with his parent, what it was like to present an award alongside Kristen Stewart at the Oscars and how he reacted when then-girlfriend Taylor Swift was interrupted by Kanye West at the VMAs. “I was standing behind [Taylor] as it was happening, and 100 percent I was sure it was staged!” Lautner explained. “I thought, ‘This was something that they rehearsed.’ I was enjoying the show! But then Taylor turned around and I saw her face.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . MSNBC’s Scarborough Insults Republicans as ‘Genuinely Stupid’ for Criticizing Obama’s Oil Spill Response

Ad hominem attacks supplanted thoughtful discussion yet again on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” On Monday, co-host Joe Scarborough chastised Republicans as “genuinely stupid” for criticizing President Barack Obama’s handling of the BP oil spill, adding that the GOP must think the American people are “dumb as hell.” “The Republicans blaming Obama look genuinely stupid because of eight years of deregulation,” scolded Scarborough, who is developing a penchant for favoring personal attacks over rational debate. “Is Mitt Romney suggesting he’s more hostile to the oil industry than Barack Obama?” Scarborough sardonically asked an amused Mike Allen, Politico ’s chief political correspondent. “Do we want to go back and look at the money? And again, I’m not just knocking Mitt Romney, but when Republicans come out like Sarah Palin and suggest the president is too cozy with the oil industry, this suggests that they think the American people are dumb as hell.” Always eager to elevate the dialogue with enlightened commentary, co-host Mika Brzezinski characterized Republicans more bluntly, as “stupid.” Descending into a bizarre abyss of rants and insults, the “Morning Joe” regulars are becoming increasingly irrelevant as serious political analysts. The transcript of the relevant portion of the program can be found below: MSNBC Morning Joe 6/14/10 6:24 a.m. MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Also, looking at Mitt Romney, hitting the president hard on how he’s handled the oil spill. What’s the angle here? MIKE ALLEN, Politico ’s chief political correspondent: That’s right, Mika. The White House has thought for a while that Mitt Romney is the most likely opponent to the president. You never know a couple years out, but just looking at Republican Party history you kind of think that. And Mitt Romney’s been quiet, everybody knows him, he doesn’t need to establish his name ID. But you’re seeing him start to take some whacks at the president in very high-profile forums. This weekend he was at the state Republican convention in the state of Washington, and he really went after the president on his handling of BP, saying that it shows his inability to lead–he questioned his leadership ability. And of course that’s what Mitt Romney tells voters he has to bring to the table. JOE SCARBOROUGH: So, what did Mitt Romney say exactly he would have done that Barack Obama is not doing? ALLEN: He doesn’t of course. And when President Bush does interviews about his book this fall you can bet that that’s one of the first questions he’s going to be asked. SCARBOROUGH: Is Mitt Romney suggesting that he’s more hostile to the oil industry than Barack Obama? ALLEN: (laughter) SCARBOROUGH: Do we want to go back and look at the money? And again, I’m not just knocking Mitt Romney, but when Republicans come out like Sarah Palin and suggest the president is too cozy with the oil industry, this suggests that they think the American people are– BRZEZINSKI: Stupid. SCARBOROUGH: –dumb as hell. ALLEN: They may not want to go there. Democratic staffers are looking at polling that shows that voters are very receptive to the idea of saying we need to crack down on the companies that took advantage of the government. So, especially with swing voters, there’s not a lot of sympathy for oil companies obviously. BRZEZINSKI: Alright, Mike Allen thank you very much, we’ll see you in just a little bit. SCARBOROUGH: And by the way, really quickly, nobody’s going to be able to play this–really–come the fall, saying “oh, it’s all the Republicans” or these Republicans saying “it’s all the Democrats.” The Republicans blaming Obama look genuinely stupid because of eight years of deregulation. But as Dee Dee Meyers and other Democrats have admitted, that deregulation started in the 1990’s under Bill Clinton. You’ve had three administrations that have basically given oil companies a free pass. And Mike we always talk about the Wall Street Journal article. Five minutes– MIKE BARNICLE: Five minutes for an approval. SCARBOROUGH: for approval for some of these BP regulatory waivers. –Alex Fitzsimmons is a News Analysis intern at the Media Research Center. Kristen Stewart On Robert Pattinson’s Other Ideas For Best Kiss Award Acceptance Speech

‘He wanted to light a match while I was juggling and he was hula hooping,’ Stewart says of Pattinson’s alternate ideas for the MTV Movie Awards. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News Without a doubt, one of the most talked-about moments of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards was Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s acceptance “speech” for winning the Golden Popcorn for Best Kiss. Fans loved the quick, awkward kiss Pattinson grabbed from Stewart onstage, but when MTV caught up with him backstage afterwards, he admitted that the stunt didn’t work out the way they’d planned. Apparently Pattinson had other ideas for ways the two “Twilight” stars could accept the award, so when MTV News caught up with Stewart at the press junket for “Eclipse,” we couldn’t resist asking her about them. “He did have some pretty funny ones,” she admitted. But when asked if she regretted not acting on any of Pattinson’s ideas, she responded, “No, no, definitely not. I’m really glad that we didn’t do his.” What was Pattinson’s best suggestion, you might ask? It seems as if he took a page right out of the book of his upcoming film “Water for Elephants” for this one. “He wanted to be hula hooping with a match in his mouth, and then he wanted to light a match while I was juggling and he was hula hooping, and he wanted to put it in my mouth and see if we could make our way over to each other … it didn’t really make a whole lot of sense to me,” Stewart said with a laugh. “I was like, ‘I can’t juggle onstage in shoes. I can barely walk up the stairs.’ ” Stewart didn’t even make it to the stairs this year before she almost fell when she went up with Pattinson to accept the Best Kiss award. At least it was a bit more coordinated than last year’s Movie Awards, when Stewart dropped her Golden Popcorn statue for Best Female Performance during her acceptance speech. “What’s really funny is I really, really don’t try to do that stuff. I try to be [smooth]. This year especially, I was like, I’m just going to give them exactly what they want, I’m going to be totally cool, I’m going to thank everybody,” she said. “I got up there, and I was like, ‘Chris directed the movie, and he’s awesome. Thanks.’ And I had to get off, like that.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . How To Erase Your Brain

the beginning of the book explains the history of government funded brain washing research. from lobotomies to Guantanamo Bay, experiments on brain washing and sensory deprivation, which often included the use of LSD, PCP and inducing long term comas, are described in detail. it then goes on to juxtapose the diabolical intent of brain washing along that of Milton Friedmen's philosophy on economics. http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/video/2007/sep/07/naomiklein added by: iamaman

Blackwater/Xe’s Weekend Warrior Bootcamp

For the vigilant patriot, Blackwater, rebranded as Xe Services, now offers classes in “Home Defense” at their 6,000-acre North Carolina and 80-acre northwest Illinois training locations. Xe’s training division goes by the name U.S. Training Center. According to the center’s website, the “Home Defense” course will make “armed citizen[s] more aware of personal security whether at home or away” as they go about their duty of “protecting self and family members.” On the company website, Tammy G. offered this testimonial, “While I hope I never have to put the skills into practice defending myself or my son, I feel like I now have the tools necessary to do that wisely and safely.” The two-day course, which is limited to 12 participants, has as a prerequisite “basic pistol marksmanship” and costs $400, not including room and board. Provided for this fee are a holster, a magazine carrier, 100 rounds of Simunition ammunition, safety gear to protect the wearer from head to groin, and a Simunition pistol—a Glock, Sig Sauer or Beretta, your choice. Further, it is “highly recommended” that students provide their own cover garment “for concealed draw.” Should you choose to enroll in the class, 25 percent of your time would be spent in classroom lectures and 75 percent with “practical instruction.” Topics explored include “use of force,” “force-on-force scenarios,” “away from home considerations,” “mindset/indications of mental state,” “basic room clearing techniques for the homeowner” and “dealing with police.” The course description concludes with this “disclaimer” (in bold): “Local authorities should be consulted on use of Lethal Force and the use of Lethal Force to defend lives and property.” In these uncertain times, the concerned citizen can’t be too careful. According to the company website, “The students will receive classroom instruction and will engage in shoot/no-shoot, force-on-force realistic scenarios based on actual events that have occurred where their decision making process will be explored and tested.” According to the U.S. Training Center website, the ultimate objective of “Home Defense” is to “inform the concerned citizen on methods of protecting the home front.” What kind of “home front” scenarios does this course prepare you for? The “Home Defense” course description doesn’t say, but knowing that Erik Prince is Blackwater’s founder and owner provides a clue. In a sworn affidavit, filed in a Federal court in Virginia last August, a former Blackwater employee, known as John Doe #2, said that Blackwater founder and owner Erik Prince “views himself as a Christian crusader tasked with eliminating Muslims and the Islamic faith from the globe.” The former Blackwater employee said: “Mr. Prince intentionally deployed to Iraq certain men who shared his vision of Christian supremacy, knowing and wanting these men to take every available opportunity to murder Iraqis. Many of these men used call signs based on the Knights of the Templar, the warriors who fought the Crusades … Mr. Prince operated his companies in a manner that encouraged and rewarded the destruction of Iraqi life. For example, Mr. Prince’s executives would openly speak about going over to Iraq to ‘lay Hajiis out on cardboard.’ Going to Iraq to shoot and kill Iraqis was viewed as a sport or game.” In his book, Blackwater: The Rise of the World’s Most Powerful Mercenary Army, Jeremy Scahill describes Prince as a man “dedicated to a Christian-supremacist agenda.” Looks like the company’s classes ensure all’s white on the Western front. http://www.inthesetimes.com/article/6019/weekend_warrior_bootcamp added by: Stoneyroad

Elizabeth Reaser arrives at the MTV Movie Awards in Universal City, Calif., on Sunday, June 6, 2010. Elizabeth Reaser might play Edward#39;s adopted vampire mom, Esme Cullen, in “Twilight,” but that doesn#39;t mean she can#39;t find the “Eclipse” tent scene to be one really s-exy moment. If Twi-Hards thought it was hot in the book, Reaser said, then they really need to see the flick, out June 30. “The tent scene, I remember that being one of the hottest scenes in the books, so I#39;m excited
