The World Health Organization (WHO) recently reviewed their suggested guidelines on the sexual activity for those who travel to or from areas where the Zika virus is prevalent and came up with a new recommendation. WHO now advises travelers to be abstinent or have protected sex for at least six months after they return to the United States. This advisement was updated after WHO learned the virus can live in sperm for up to the same about of time. … The movement started in Massachusetts, where employers are not prohibited to ask such questions, and this may become the trend across the country. “A trio of legislators announced this week they will introduce a bill that will prohibit employers from asking job-seekers about their salary history before making a job offer,” reported Glamour. Among the bill’s sponsors are Representatives Eleanor Holmes Norton, Rosa DeLauro, and Jerrold Nadler… One of the reasons legislators want this to happen is because some experts say that requesting someone’s salary history before making a job offer only perpetuates the wage gap. “Because many employers set wages based on an applicant’s previous salary, workers from historically disadvantaged groups often start out behind their white male counterparts in salary negotiations and never catch up,” the announcement states. [ MadameNoire ] “The Cupboard Is Bare”… CDC Director Says There’s No More Money In The Zika Fund As Zika virus transmissions become more rampant in the United States, the CDC shared some unfortunate news about how they (probably) won’t be able to help those who become infected in the near future. At a press conference this past Tuesday, CDC’s director Dr. Thomas Frieden told reporters, “the cupboard is bare.” “Basically, we are out of money and we need Congress to act,” he shared. Despite the severity of this news, our congressmen and women have been on summer vacation for seven weeks. They return back to work next Tuesday but until they do, Federal agencies are not allowed to spend or receive new money unless Congress gives them the green light. Since Dr. Frieden revealed the lack of money the CDC has to help treat the virus, three new cases were reported in Florida. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Olympic gymnast will join the judges’ panel for the 2017 Miss America Pageant. The Miss America Organization, Dick Clark Productions and ABC said that the athlete would also be joined by singer Laura Marano for the September 11 event. Douglas, who will sit with Sara Foster of “Barely Famous”, singer-songwriter Cole Swindell, and former Miss America Sharlene Wells Hawkes, will be the only judge of color on the panel. Blacks Locked Out Of Legal Marijuana Industry In Maryland & Many Other States

Maryland is expected to rake in some serious dough through legal marijuana starting in 2017. It has been estimated that the cannabis industry in the state could reach $60 million by 2020. And considering that the African-American/Black community makes up 30.5 percent of the population, one would assume local Black entrepreneurs will be cashing in as well. Unfortunately not. “Maryland set up its legal medical marijuana industry with hopes of racial diversity and equity in spreading profits, but none of the 15 companies cleared this week for potentially lucrative growing licenses are led by African Americans,” reported the Washington Post. Of course, local Black community advocates and business people are calling out Maryland officials on the license approvals. “We are not going to see this industry flourish in the state of Maryland with no minority participation,” said Del. Cheryl D. Glenn (D-Baltimore), chairwoman of the Legislative Black Caucus. Glenn is so upset she is pondering filing a legal injunction to stop the licensing process along with other legal options… [ MadameNoire ] White Women Just Discovered Showercaps And Are Wearing Them In The Streets If you’re a white woman in 2016, there’s a good chance you’ve only now been introduced to the former, simply because another teeny bopper company came along, changed the name of the product, and deemed the item en vogue. The comedian is set to star in and produce a new comedy titled The Trap.The Hollywood Reporter writes: The Trap tells of a man (T.I.) who returns home to Atlanta after an extended absence to help save his brother (Epps) and mother’s run-down restaurant. An unexpected change to the chicken recipe breathes new life into the restaurant but also brings unexpected problems. Sounds legit. Artist Shani Crowe Pays Homage To Cornrows In New Exhibit, BRAIDS

For centuries, braids have been making women of color feel powerful. To highlight how braids continues to make Black girls feel magical as well as the history of the intricately expressive hairstyle, Artist Shani Crowe decided to document her relationship with braids at Brooklyn’s Museum Of Contemporary African Disporan Arts (MoCADA). Appropriately titled, BRAIDS, Crowe told Refinery 29 what inspired her to curate such an exhibit. “As a child, I would get my hair braided every two weeks by one of my aunts or an older cousin. I picked up the skill from watching my relatives braid, and practicing on dolls. When I was around 11, and my aunts couldn’t execute the designs I wanted, I began braiding [on] my own. I was a walking advertisement for myself, and ended up attracting clientele,” Crowe said… [ MadameNoire ] Did You Know?
