Manny Ramirez Allegedly Slapped Wife, Barred from Further Contact

New details have emerged regarding former Major League Baseball star Manny Ramirez and his arrest yesterday on charges of domestic violence . According to the police report obtained by TMZ , Manny’s wife, Juliana, said her husband “struck her in the left side of the face with an open hand causing her to hit her head against the headboard of the bed” during an argument inside their home. She then dialed 911, but refused medical attention. Ramirez claims he merely “grabbed” Juliana by the shoulders and she accidentally crashed into the headboard when he “shrugged her.” At a hearing this morning in Broward Country, Manny’s bond was set at $2,500 and a judge ordered him against having any contact with his wife until an investigation was complete. The last team the slugger played for, meanwhile, is not suffering from his absence in the lineup: the Tampa Bay Rays only trail the Boston Red Sox by three games in the chase for the American League Wild Card.

Manny Ramirez, Former World Series MVP & Steroid User, Arrested for Domestic Violence

Manny Ramirez, the 2004 World Series MVP who retired this year when faced with his second suspension from Major League Baseball due to the use of performance enhancing drugs, has been arrested in Florida. The incident took place around 7 p.m. EST, as witnesses tell TMZ and other sources that Ramirez was led from his home in Weston in handcuffs and then booked in the Broward Sheriff’s Office main jail in Fort Lauderdale, Ramirez’ wife, Juliana, left the house shortly after her husband. Onlookers confirm an altercation of some kind took place inside. The slugger played for the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays over his career. This gives new, sad meaning to the term “Manny being Manny.”

Get It Together, America: We Had Zero Job Creation In August!

This economy seems to just get worse and worse SMH. Stocks plummeted today as news came out that there were no new jobs in the whole month of August. Bloomberg had anticipated that there would be a 65,000 job increase in the month, but that clearly didn’t happen. Of course, this is more fuel to the fire as all the Republican presidential candidates have jumped out of the woodwork to send shots at Obama for failing to create new jobs. “The jobs report was just ugly,” Michael Mullaney, a money manager at Fiduciary Trust in Boston, told Bloomberg. “We’ve been watching deceleration of economic activity on a global basis. Does that increase the odds of a recession? It’s a coin toss at this point, 50-50.” It hasn’t helped that eight out of 10 people think that we’re actually in a recession right now. Of course, this means consumer spending will definitely go down. Basically, we’re all f*cked. Ta-daaa!

‘Conan The Barbarian’: The Reviews Are In!

While critics prefer the remake to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s original, reviews aren’t glowing. By Terri Schwartz Jason Momoa in “Conan the Barbarian” Photo: Lionsgate Entertainment “Conan the Barbarian” isn’t trying to pull any punches. From the beginning, the remake of the 1982 cult classic proclaims that its lead lives, loves, slays and is content. And critics are saying that’s exactly what you get in theaters. Reviews haven’t necessarily been positive, with critics complaining about the script and the one-dimensional characters. But they seem to agree that Jason Momoa did a better job in the title role than Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the movie is fun — at least as a mindless summer blockbuster. It might not be worth spending the extra money to see the flick in 3-D, but the fighting is good and gory if that’s what fans are looking for. But don’t let us tell you what to think. Before you head to theaters to watch “Conan the Barbarian,” find out what the critics thought of “Conan the Barbarian” in our review round-up: The Script “With a script so pat and humor-free, Momoa has little to do but sneer and slice. The film informs us that Conan has the heart of a lion and ‘the loyalty of a bloodhound,’ but we get nary a sniff of that in this carnage fest. He’s built like a tank, but Conan emotes like one, too.” — Scott Bowles, USA Today The Effects “This ‘Conan’ plods along, regularly erupting in action scenes that make scant visual sense in two dimensions and none at all in 3-D. The few that stick out involve supernatural beasties; there’s one ferocious battle against warriors made of sand that combines athletic parkour and digital effects to surprisingly exciting ends. Other than that, it’s tame stuff, and there’s little sense of the larger mythical stage the hero strides across.” — Ty Burr, The Boston Globe The Remake “The original ‘Conan’ was a sloppy, grandiose, unforgivable muckbath directed by the (I say the words lovingly) right-wing maniac John Milius. I watched it about four times to make sure it had no redeeming qualities. The reboot (re-sandal?) isn’t good either, exactly. But it has a certain commitment to its cause, and by that I mean it supplies the necessary flayings, slayings, beheadings and, um, a be-nose-ing, all of it dancing to the tune of those amusingly stilted He-Man declaratives — King James Bible cadences applied to comic-book visions. It knows it’s a B movie, and gets on with it.” — Kyle Smith, The New York Post The Schwarzenegger Connection “In this dank ultimate-fighting challenge, Jason Momoa as Conan provides the only visual vivacity; he has an eye-catchingly sensuous face atop the requisite statuesque beefcake. Much more than Schwarzenegger in his early Teutonic-slab phase, Momoa nicely fulfills the law of Hollywood Darwinism: survival of the dishiest. Such is his sex appeal that he almost brings plausibility to the movie’s silliest scene, when Conan tells Tamara, ‘I live, I love, I slay, and I am content,’ and the virgin instantly falls into his arms. Guys bringing their dates to this murky holocaust are advised not to try using Conan’s credo as a pickup line.” — Richard Corliss, Time The Final Word ” ‘Conan the Barbarian,’ starring the excellent rippling chisel of Jason Momoa, is brutal, bloody beyond belief, and has no socially redeeming value. So it is with a certain amount of guilt that I say it’s kind of a wicked blast to watch, especially if you’re in the mood for some righteous revenge.” — Betsy Sharkey, The Los Angeles Times Check out everything we’ve got on “Conan the Barbarian.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

CC Sabathia Talks Baseball, Family & Hip-Hop [Exclusive Interview]

If you’re a demeanor, there’s no room to question why so many people love him. CC is making his rounds as the spokesperson for the Pepsi MAX Field of Dreams campaign. Pepsi MAX is giving fans a chance to vote for their dream team of 11 legendary players. Each time a person votes, they will be entered to win a chance to play against the fan selected players on their home field. I ( @JaySpeakEasy ) had a chance to talk to the Yankee pitcher at the MLB Fan Cave. In our brief conversation, we talked about how the Yankee season is going so far, the toughest part of the game, and hip-hop. Let’s get right into it. How do you feel about the Yankees’ season thus far? I feel pretty good. We’ve been having a pretty good year. We’re in second place right now. I think we’ve been playing really well. We had a tough loss against the Angels, but we still have a chance to make the playoffs. So we’ll go from there. What are your thoughts on catcher, Jorge Posada, being benched? It’s tough, man. He’s a legend. He’s done a lot for this organization and a lot for this city. I think it is just tough to see somebody go through that. But Posada will be right back where he belongs soon enough. I’m confident in that. How would you like the Yankee season to end? Hopefully, we win the World Series. I mean, that’s why I came to New York because we have a chance of winning it every year. Everybody knows that. That’s pretty cool and a special feeling to have. How do you balance family with being on the road and traveling majority of the year? That is a hard thing to deal with during the season, but in the summertime, my kids are out of school. I get to hang out with them and spend the time they need when the summer hits. We do whatever we can on days I’m off. But it is part of the life. I get to come home for the off season and they have at home everyday for four months. I wouldn’t trade the time with my family for anything. I know you’re a big hip hop fan. Who is the rapper you would say most represents your pitching style? Rick Ross . I think he has the style and attitude are the representation of my pitching style. He is confident and headstrong. My feel like I pitch with a confidence. That’s why I have to go with Rick Ross on that one. Plus, I’m a huge fan of his. What albums are you listening to now? Well, you know Watch The Throne just dropped so I’m bumping that heavy. That’s really it. I’m not listening to anything else as of now. Jay-Z and Kanye West have a great album out. I’m definitely enjoying all of the tracks. I have no favorite yet. Well, thank you for speaking with me. I’m just going to need one favor from you. Speak to whoever you need to speak to, but the people in the bleacher seats are going to need some shade. It’s way too hot for that. [laughs] Oh, ya’ll a little hot over there? I’ll see what I can do. Jay-Z And Kanye West Shuffle Watch the Throne Tour Dates

‘We pushed it back to really route it and put other dates on there,’ Jay says of pushing launch to October. By Rob Markman Kanye West and Jay-Z Photo: Getty Images Fans eager to experience Watch the Throne live are going to have to wait an extra month before they can see Jay-Z and Kanye West in concert. On Tuesday morning, Live Nation started a pre-sale for the WTT Tour, but the original run, which was set to begin on September 22 in Detroit, is no longer. Instead Yeezy and Hov will now kick things off on October 29 in Atlanta, Georgia. The original 24-date tour is now slated for 17 stops, but Live Nation’s website says that more dates will be announced soon. The October 29 Atlanta date was in fact on the original schedule, as was the October 30, Greensboro, North Carolina, date and the November 1 show in Baltimore. The remaining concerts are all rescheduled. Look back at the events leading up to Watch the Throne ‘s August 8 release. There is still no New York City date on paper yet, though Hov confirmed that there will be one during a radio interview with Hot 97’s Angie Martinez on Monday, when he also denied rumors of a feud between him and Kanye . The Throne will stop at the nearby Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, for two nights and will also land in West’s hometown of Chicago on December 1. “That’s an old list we had to push that back, because it was like, we tried to put it out in pre-order and all the lines got jammed,” Jay told Martinez in the interview as she read off the tour’s original dates. “We pushed it back to really route it and put other dates on there. We’ll probably put four New York dates there instead.” Check out exclusive photos of Jay-Z and Kanye West in the studio. As of now, the last date on the schedule is across the northern border on December 18 in Vancouver. In the radio interview, Jay said that he and Kanye hadn’t worked out the performance details and couldn’t confirm who would hit the stage when or how the two would interact. “We hadn’t worked out those details yet but considerable time will be spent onstage together,” he said.
