‘Things will definitely be a little different’ when pregnant Snooki and crew shoot season six this summer, an MTV rep confirms. By Jocelyn Vena The cast of “Jersey Shore” Photo: MTV Snooki promised at the end of the latest season of “Jersey Shore” that she’d be back for more Seaside Heights, New Jersey, shenanigans, and she wasn’t lying. MTV News has confirmed that there will be another season of the “Shore” — with mom-to-be Snooki joining her pals. Although further details about season six of the hit MTV reality show have yet to be released — though we do know “Shore” will tape this summer — the network released a statement hinting that there will be new themes to explore. “While things will definitely be a little different this time when they hit the boardwalk, their trademark hilarity and family dysfunction will remain the same,” an MTV rep teased. A pregnant Snooki and JWoww are in the midst of filming their own spin-off, while DJ Pauly D’s spin-off, “The Pauly D Project,” will premiere on March 29. But the crew will reconvene for another summer in the sun in Jersey. When MTV News caught up with Pauly D recently, he seemed excited to shoot another season that made him and his housemates household names. “Absolutely! I’m there! I love summers on the Jersey Shore,” he said. “I love it as a show, and I love it with my roommates. I wouldn’t do it without [them], I gotta do it with them. I want all of them [there] and I want the Jersey Shore.” Looking back on season five, Pauly said that if the cast had learned anything, it was how much they loved the Shore after a season spent abroad in Italy. “This season, we kind of appreciated Jersey more,” he said. “So we took advantage of it and everything it has to offer. We were in Italy for so long [last season] that we never were away from the country for that amount of time, so you realize how much you miss gym, tan, laundry. There was no tanning beds in Italy.” For continuing “Jersey Shore” coverage, be sure to check in with MTV’s Remote Control blog.
As we count down to the premiere of her ‘Part of Me’ video, MTV News picks our favorite Katy Perry clips to date. By Vaughn Trudeau Schoonmaker Katy Perry Photo: EMI We’re just a couple days away from “MTV First: Katy Perry,” when the pop star will premiere the music video for her #1 hit, “Part of Me” on MTV. As her seventh #1 single, “Part of Me” has a long line of awesome videos to live up to. And as we count down the hours to the video premiere at 7:23 p.m. on Wednesday, it seems like an opportune time to look back at our five favorite Katy Perry videos so far. #5: “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)” This Marc Klesfeld-directed, 8-minute mini-movie opened with Kathy Beth Terry waking up the morning after throwing quite the rager, wearing absurd head gear and dreadful overalls. While this was not Katy’s first foray into the comedic music video genre by any means, this was the first time that she pulled all hands on deck to maximize the laughs with meaningful cameos from a glassy-eyed Darren Criss, Kevin McHale as a love interest, the mentoring of Friday expert Rebecca Black, Corey Feldman, Hanson, Debbie Gibson and, of course, Kenny G. Complete with dream sequences, beautiful fluorescent leggings a la 1985, a rooster and end credits that clearly save the best for last, “T.G.I.F.” is hands-down Katy’s most fun video to date. #4: “I Kissed a Girl” Rewatching the video for her first #1 hit, we see a personality far more timid and sex kitten-ish than the Katy Perry we know now. But we still recognize strong visual themes that are scattered throughout her more recent videos, live performances and magazine spreads. Director Kinga Burza brought us bizarre yet compelling imagery that seems to have set the tone for all videos to follow. The pink-and-red color scheme creates a burlesque backdrop around Katy’s former 1940s-pin-up-girl look that she hit the big pop scene with in 2008. We get to see a cat (not Kitty Purry technically, but perhaps a nod?), a pretty cake (confection!), and a pillow fight with a group of scantily clad women (including a pre-famous Ke$ha). The video ends with her waking up to realize the whole video was a dream, and she happens to be sharing a bed with a man who looks suspiciously similar to her then-boyfriend, Travie McCoy. #3: “California Gurls” This now-iconic video set the Candyland theme Perry took on the road with her for the sold-out California Dreams World Tour . As Snoop Dogg plays a naughty game of “Candyfornia,” the game piece, Ms. Perry, is faced with obstacles in the Mathew Cullen-directed adventure, including an army of pissed-off Gummy Bears and sinister candy snake vines. The obstacles are no match for her whipped cream-shooting bikini top and her happy-go-lucky demeanor she maintains while lying nude on some of the prettiest cotton candy clouds ever spotted. Her lavender, blue and black wigs foreshadowed Perry’s constantly-changing hair styles we see today. The visual effects in the video, surprisingly intricate for such a silly and sweet concept, transform Katy’s homeland California with all of its picturesque landscapes into a tantalizing Willy Wonka land where everything is edible, including the Hollywood sign. The video also marked Katy’s first noteworthy choreographed dancing, which was a new territory not explored from her One of the Boys era of videos. #2: “Firework” Katy Perry looks like a princess in this Budapest-set, Dave Meyers-directed tearjerker (happy tears!) that led the way for anti-bullying anthems even before Pink’s “F—in’ Perfect” and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way . Featuring a child cancer patient, a boy whose parents are fighting, a girl struggling with her weight and a teenage boy with a same-sex love interest, Katy Perry’s message of “igniting the light” is loud and clear as fireworks burst from everyone’s chest and purple streaks in one’s hair have never looked so good. #1: “The One That Got Away” Marking her second collaboration with director Floria Sigismondi following “E.T.,” “The One That Got Away” takes the top prize because of its clever jumps through time, a convincing old-lady makeover, Diego Luna’s spicy cameo, and Perry managing to look more beautiful than ever amid a fascinating emotional breakdown. Set against the backdrop of California panoramas, this music video neatly ties together the imagery she introduced us to in her equally gorgeous video for “Teenage Dream,” while letting the story of love and loss run wild, giving Katy the chance to show us the extent of her talent, as she showed her high potential for dramatic acting. Can Katy Perry top this list with “Part of Me”? Find out when during “MTV First: Katy Perry,” when the pop star will debut the video at 7:23 p.m. ET on MTV, followed by an 30-minute interview with MTV News’ James Montgomery on MTV.com. Immediately following the premiere of “Part of Me” on MTV, the video for the deeply emotional single will air on Logo, debut on MTV.com, VH1.com and LOGOtv.com, and go into rotation on mtvU, MTV Hits and AMTV the following morning. Additionally, the video will debut on Saturday, March 24, at 9 a.m. ET/PT during VH1’s “Top 20 Countdown” and on TeenNick’s “Obsess This” music block at 7 a.m. ET and Sunday, March 25, at 8:30 a.m. ET. Taylor Momsen did a concert at the House of Blues in LA last night and she invited her friend Jenna Haze….who has been seen IN HER NEW MUSIC VIDEO and IN BED WITH HER and for those of you who don’t know…. Mystikal, Birdman, Cory Gunz and others help Weezy kick off his Mountain Dew partnership in Austin. By Nadeska Alexis Lil Wayne performs at SXSW on Thursday Photo: Hutton Supancic/ Getty Images YMCMB. Trukfit. DeWeezy. And repeat. When Lil Wayne took over the Austin Music Hall for his SXSW show in Texas on Thursday night, the rapper-turned-skateboarder had the venue draped in banners upon banners, shouting out his team, his new clothing line and his new partnership with Mountain Dew. Earlier in the day, Wayne invited his pro skateboard friends — including Paul Rodriguez and Theotis Beasley — to get their grind on on the top floor of the venue while the Mountain Dew-sponsored show was being prepped. By showtime later that night, the boys were all freshly prepped for their closing appearance at the concert. (For photos from the concert, click here.) And while Wayne saved his skateboard family to wrap the night, his YMCMB family members came out to open the show and made brief appearances throughout his set. U.K. singer Jay Sean hit the stage early, along with Lil Chuckee and recent Cash Money signee Mystikal, who gave the crowd a taste of his hits including “Here I Go” and “Shake Ya Ass.” Wayne finally hit the stage around 12:30 a.m., decked out in his Trukfit gear, with skateboard in hand, bringing a burst of energy for fans who’d already started a few “Weezy” chants in anticipation of his performance. He kicked things off with “I’m Goin’ In,” and “A Milli,” with head banging and dreads flying everywhere. During his one-hour set, Wayne gave the crowd some words of inspiration on falling and getting back up. “Life is like skateboarding,” he said. He later dropped another one-liner, “It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it,” admitting to the crowd that they’d just participated in a commercial shoot for his new DeWeezy campaign with Mountain Dew. With that out of the way, there were still plenty of hits left to go around, including “She Will” and “Blunt Blowin’,” plus a few more guest appearances. Drake, Nicki Minaj and Tyga were all noticeably absent from the show, but after giving them a shout-out, Wayne brought out a few more YMCMB members including Shanell, Bow Wow, Gudda Gudda, Mack Maine and Birdman, who performed his single “Y.U. Mad.” Despite Drake’s absence, Wayne delivered his verse on “The Motto” and saved Tha Carter IV single “6 Foot, 7 Foot” for the finale. Maybe the most surprising cameo of the night came from rapper Cory Gunz, who was recently arrested for gun possession. The young Gunz joined Wayne and his crew of pro skateboarders onstage to assist on the track before calling it a night. In light of the fact that Jionni got Snooki pregnant , and multiple cast members have their own spinoffs coming out, was this the last ever Jersey Shore? That remains to be seen, but if Thursday night’s Season 5 finale turned out to be a swan song, our favorite roving gang of guidos/ettes could do worse. ‘X Factor’ alum tells MTV News her Nick pilot will be ‘really Rachel.’ By Christina Garibaldi Rachel Crow Photo: MTV News Rachel Crow, the pint-size cutie who won over America on “The X Factor” and made a lasting impression with her heartbreaking elimination , may have come out of the singing competition a winner after all. Just last month, Crow not only landed a recording contract with Columbia Records, but also signed an overall talent deal with Nickelodeon to star in her own musical-comedy pilot. MTV News caught up with Crow on the set of the Nick series “Fred: The Show,” where she will be a series regular as the character Starr. “My head was exploding when I couldn’t tell anyone,” Crow said about her new projects. “I kept telling people, ‘Oh, stuff will be coming out soon,’ and then it kept getting pushed back, pushed back, and I was like, ‘People are gonna think I’m lying!’ But I’m so happy I can tell everyone about it now. I’m really excited.” Crow, who finished in fifth place on “X Factor,” has not yet started filming her own series but promises it will be a true representation of her personality. “I’ve been thinking about it. We’re kind of in the first stages of deciding what it’s gonna be now,” Crow said. “But it’ll be really fun, really Rachel. We’ll see how it goes. I’m still thinking about it, something really fun and something that kids can relate to.” In addition to staying true to herself, she’s also hoping to reach an audience that may not be too familiar with her: the boys. “I want to reach the boy audience, because I know that’s really hard to do,” Crow admitted. “Boys don’t usually watch a really girly show, but I want to make sure that it’s a family-oriented, very fun, edgy, wacky show.” And to get that edgy twist she is looking for, she already has some dream guest stars in mind. “I’ve always wanted to sing with Eminem . I know, it’s really weird. I really love him,” Crow said. “I would really love for [‘Fred: The Show’ star] Lucas [Cruikshank] to be on my show, a lot of the Nickelodeon stars. I’m still super excited, I can’t even believe what’s happening.” Are you excited for Rachel Crow’s Nickelodeon show? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Rachel Crow
With his round, bearded face and gentle voice, John Bunting (Daniel Henshall) is an unassuming monster — it takes a while to spot the terrible danger within him. In Justin Kurzel’s The Snowtown Murders , based on an actual series of gruesome crimes that took place in South Australia in the mid ’90s, he’s the deceptive mastermind behind a string of serial killings, the leader of a group initially, at least in their own heads, bound together by a desire to enact vigilante justice. The Snowtown Murders is the latest and bleakest in a string of Australian crime films showing flashes of virtuoso talent, and has more than a little in common with David Michôd’s 2010 hit Animal Kingdom , including a near-feral group of characters and a teenage boy whose eyes are the windows through which we see terrible things. But Jamie Vlassakis (Lucas Pittaway) isn’t just a witness, he’s an eventual participant, and The Snowtown Murders builds into a multipronged horror effort in which the torture and murder on-screen are matched by the psychologically convincing disintegration of a previously sympathetic protagonist. Snowtown, which is located between Adelaide and Perth, is portrayed in the film as a shabby suburb, its downtrodden ugliness in contrast to the giant sky and empty landscapes outside that the camera occasionally pulls back to appreciate. Elizabeth (Louise Harris) is dating a guy who lives across the way, and leaves her boys, including Jamie, in his care. He uses the opportunity to take photos of them in their underwear, a request to which they acquiesce with a defeated air that becomes the film’s overarching sentiment. He’s out on bail in a day. Later, another character is raped by someone in his own family: He struggles, but eventually surrenders, lying still like the runt of a litter being forced to submit, the camera observing dispassionately from a distance as it happens. The residents of Snowtown seem to have accepted victimhood as their due, which is why John’s arrival is so initially welcome — he’s willing to fight back, even if it’s against the law, and he’s charismatic and funny and able to manipulate the welling rage just underneath the benumbed expressions of his followers. John inveigles his way into Elizabeth’s life romantically, and works a different sort of seduction on Jamie, whose hunger for a father figure is almost a physical manifestation. Signs that something’s not quite right with John surface slowly — he chops up kangaroos to toss on the doorstep of Elizabeth’s pedophilic ex, and later pressures Jamie into shooting his dog as proof of his ability to stand up for himself. The Snowtown Murders internalizes the themes about dominance and survival that Animal Kingdom has to make explicit — the only way to see John’s serial killing team is as a predatory pack over which he holds complete sway, their actions motivated by self-importance, by a need to belong, by fear and, eventually, enjoyment. John initially cloaks his actions as justice, primarily against molesters of children — the neighborhood enjoys gathering around a table to smoke and drink and talk about what they’d do to anyone they caught messing with their offspring, the imagining of violence a dizzying pleasure. “It’s not fucking mean if you kick the shit out of some diseased prick,” John points out. “He fucking deserves it. It’s an Australian fucking tradition.” But the killings expand from pedophiles to anyone John deems unworthy — the obese, the drug-addicted, the weak, the unmissable, and John brings Jamie into the fold, forcing the knowledge of what’s happening onto him, certain he’ll participate. (“I’m only looking after you, mate,” he tells the boy after revealing to him that he’s murdered one of his friends.) One of the film’s best, most difficult scenes finds Jamie watching as someone is chained to the bathtub, walking away, returning to see him get tortured, and going outside to sit as kids ride by on bikes. There’s nothing physically holding him there, but he can’t and won’t intervene or run for help, and so instead he gives in, buying into the illusion of power in what’s really just more powerlessness. The intentional unpleasantness of The Snowtown Murders isn’t just due to its violence, but its harsh assessment of human nature, of how its characters’ unhappiness grows though they continue on the path they’ve chosen, too forceless to remedy the situation. The film is unflinching, but doesn’t sensationalize its content, which makes it all the more disturbing. In the blue-tinged world it portrays — wood-paneled rooms filled with cigarette smoke, decrepit couches on lawns and porches, a land of dead ends — it’s the dreadful normalizing of its crimes that’s haunting, the way they go undiscussed even as they grow and pull in everyone around, either as victim, victimizer or accomplice, helpless in the face of a soft-spoken psychopath. The rapper performed his record “Good Feeling” during the Saturday activities for night two of All-Star weekend. Flo Rida Photo: MTV News Orlando, Florida– When it comes to music Flo Rida is a definite all-star, but before he made it big on the radio the Miami rapper had some pretty big hoop dreams. He didn’t get to shoot the rock this weekend but Flo set the Amway Arena on fire on Saturday night when he performed his hit single “Good Feeling” moments before the NBA kicked off their annual All-Star Slam Dunk Contest. “Early on with my boys, we played basketball and loved it so much and one day dreamed of playing basketball,” Flo told MTV News immediately after his performance. “So for me to go out there in an environment where I may not be an NBA player, but I’m definitely looked at as a celebrity as well, it’s just a blessing and I get chills just thinking about it.” Flo performed his Etta James-sampling “Good Feeling” flanked by a number of energetic dancers. It was a lively showing and for the rapper an unforgettable on as well. “I definitely enjoyed myself out there, you seen me jump around all over the stage,” he said. Performing during the live television broadcast was a thrill for Flo and so was watching the Slam Dunk Contest, which NBA baller Jeremy Evans won thanks to a move where he dunked two different basketballs in one jump. Flo Rida, an accomplished hit-maker who usually is out touring is also looking forward to spending time with his homeys during the star-studded weekend. “Besides that just hanging out with a bunch of my friends who I normally wouldn’t see around this time because I’m doing gigs,” he said when asked about his weekend highlights. Flo just narrowly missed his pal Rick Ross last night at the Sheltair Executive Airport Hanger in Orlando. Rozay threw an all-star bash and partied alongside Meek Mill, DJ Holiday and Maybach crew members Dre Films and Spiff TV. Ross and company left, just as Flo was coming in the club. No biggie though, the “Good Feeling” rapper kept the party going into early Sunday morning with R&B singer Pleasure P.
