Soulja Boy Says He’s Glad 50 Cent’s Got His Back

Fif has defended the young MC, and ’50 don’t mess with no rappers,’ Soulja says on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Sway Calloway Soulja Boy Tell’em Photo: Rich Sancho/ MTV News Hip-pop hitmaker Soulja Boy and gritty G-Unit boss 50 Cent may be hip-hop’s newest odd couple, but the 20-year-old rapper is glad the Queens MC is in his corner — regardless of what critics may say. During a return appearance on MTV News’ “RapFix Live” on Thursday (December 2), the “Speakers Going Hammer” star talked about his relationship with Fif, saying he’s amped the Before I Self Destruct lyricist has stuck up for him when his hip-hop cred was questioned. “To have 50 have my back , that’s definitely exciting, it’s an achievement. 50 don’t mess with no rappers,” Soulja said. “When I came out, there [was] a lot of people that was hating on me [and] felt like I wasn’t real to the game — don’t hate the player, hate the game — 50 shed light on me and he came to my defense.” Soulja talked about taking the brunt of much hip-hop hate for churning out infectious, dance floor-friendly hits that became popular with everyone from all-American teens to Hollywood heavyweights. “Eminem’s daughter doing my [‘Crank That’] dance, that’s just amazing. Just like when I seen Beyonc

Soulja Boy Recalls Meeting Dr. Dre, Dubs Himself ‘Lil’ Dre’

‘I was in shock at what he was saying,’ young MC tells Sway during ‘RapFix Live.’ By Hillary Crosley, with reporting by Sway Calloway Soulja Boy Tell’em Photo: Rich Sancho/ MTV News Along with 50 Cent, another hip-hop heavyweight may be taking Soulja Boy Tell’em under his wing. During his interview on “RapFix Live” on Thursday (December 2), the 20-year-old rapper talked about meeting Dr. Dre for the first time briefly before one of his concerts. “Everybody knows Dre,” Soulja Boy said of meeting the West Coast icon. “I was in shock at what he was saying. It was just like, I couldn’t believe that he was there.” Apparently, Dre was so unassuming that he caught the young MC off-guard. “My CEO, Jimmy Iovine, had came in the room before he did, and he was like, ‘What’s up, Soulja Boy?’ and we was talking,” Soulja recalled. “And Dre just walked in, like, ‘Soulja!’ And I was like, ‘Oh, is that Dr. Dre?’ And [my boys] were like, ‘Why you ain’t take your shades off?’ I was caught up in the moment, what he was saying, how he appreciate what I do and I’m doing my thang. “Just him telling me that, just meant so much,” Soulja continued. “I was in a point of shock, you feel me?” And like for many other rappers, Dre has been a point of inspiration, but leave it to SB to take the superproducer’s legacy one step further. “Dr. Dre is a legend. I’ve been listening to him since I was in diapers,” Soulja said. “I know my mama been listening to him. Everybody knows that he did so much for hip-hop and … you know, I’m lil’ Dre!” While that title is debatable, the two may work together on Dre’s premium line of headphones, Beats by Dre. “During the ‘Speakers Going Hammer’ , the beats are all through that video and the ‘Speakers Going Hammer’ song is gon’ be in his next commercial,” Soulja said. “That was love. He was like, ‘I like that song. Put that in the commercial.’ Soon, maybe you’ll see some Soulja Boy/ Dr. Dre headphones or something like that.” Until then, the rapper’s been busy dreaming up fresh ideas. “I’ve been thinking about what I could bring. Like, I ain’t want to do just like the headphones,” Soulja shared. “I wanted to do something new to it.” Would you check out Soulja Boy’s headphones? Let us know in the comments! ‘The Buried Life’ Guys Say They’re Down For A Third Season

‘We always have things on the list that we want to cross off,’ castmember Ben Nemtin explains. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Rya Backer The cast of “The Buried Life” Photo: Angela Weiss/ Getty Images The gang behind MTV’s “The Buried Life” isn’t likely to leave behind a lengthy list of regrets when they kick the bucket, and for the season-two finale, the boys kicked off one of their biggest episodes ever: an hour-long opus packed with gutsy attempts at making a million bucks. Ben Nemtin, Dave Lingwood and Duncan Penn recently kicked back on the MTV Newsroom couch to chat about the finale and said the inspiration for the episode came from one of the most popular wishes that people across the board want to fulfill: becoming a multimillionaire. “Everywhere we go, we ask the question: ‘What do you want to do before you die?’ And it’s amazing how often we get an answer that has something to do with money and specifically like, ‘I wanna make millions of dollars,’ ” Duncan explained. “We really wanted to see how far we could get at making a million dollars. We tried everything [and] pulled off some amazing, amazing things. We’re really excited about this episode; that’s why we made it an hour long. We also get to help someone in a way that we’ve never been able to help someone. It’s a good one. It’s probably one of our best.” For Ben, his jumbo-size Las Vegas gamble tops his list of season two’s best moments. “My personal highlight is a moment that happens in the finale. The [episode goal] is to make a million dollars, and we do the biggest roulette spin in Vegas’ history. It’s probably one of the most nerve-racking … I don’t even know how to explain it, but it was a feeling that I don’t think I’ve never felt before, right before that spin,” he recalled. As viewers saw Monday night (November 29), the guys each chose a different path toward pumping up their bank accounts, armed with $25,000 of seed money each. Ben hit Vegas, Duncan ventured to Wall Street to team up with investment expert Jim Cramer, and Dave went into the apparel game, cranking out zippered onesies for adults. Duncan explained that his personal interest in business drew him to the moneymaking address. “I studied business in school, and so I decided what I wanted to do was go to Wall Street and team up with somebody, kind of a guru in the game and see how far I could get, how much money I could make in sort of a short period of time doing, like, really, really risky plays,” he said. The boys can now strike a line through “starring in the second season of their hit TV series” on their “Buried Life” list. They’re definitely game for a third go-around, but even if their adventures aren’t broadcast to the world, the fellas say they’ll continue to whittle down their list on their own. “We always have things on the list that we want to cross off. We started this in a garage in Canada four years ago and were doing it three years before MTV,” Ben said. “For us, we want to keep doing this as long as we can, so there’s always gonna be things that we’re trying to cross off. I mean, ‘go to space’ is on the list.” Duncan agreed: “We’re still surviving this season, but I think we’d be up for a third season.” What did you think of the season-two finale of “The Buried Life”? More important, it actually took the Kurt/bullying storyline somewhere. Celebrate with us and sing along! Do you want a wedding episode? I do! I do! Do I want “Glee” in a happy mode? I do! Do you Know why I’m crying When this show Used to Be funny and so shiny? But now I feel sad For tortured Kurt and lonely Sue His bully’s mad Kurt doesn’t know what he should do But cheer up, dude! Your bully’s dad is from “Lost.” He totally explodes. [ “Lost” clip of Arzt holding dynamite and exploding. ] Anyone remember that? Season one? Do you believe the boys stood up for Kurt? I do, I do Except for Finn, who tried his best to avert. So boo to Him until the wedding scene where We saw Finn Dedicate a sweet song to his New half-kin. But why were the pronouns all messy, She’s a him? I guess “Glee” won’t change lyrics unless It is about transsexuals. That’s right I’m still not over that “Rocky Horror” episode. Just sayin’. Sue Sylvester marries herself ’cause she can’t find a match. Mama Sue shows up but this plot point doesn’t attach. I guess producers had the chance to shoot with Carol Burnett, So they wrote in a Nazi-hunter filled with maternal regret How can I blame them for wanting to include Carol? Ryan Murphy clearly shrugged and said, “Sure, what the hell?” A shame her singing voice now sounds like her old Tarzan yell Is she coasting on her name? Katy Perry AMA Performance: Did "Firework" Fizzle?

We love Katy Perry personally and think some of her songs are really catchy, but her live singing skills were a bit suspect at the American Music Awards. It’s hard to watch her rendition of “Firework” (below) and not think that, but that’s just our opinion. What do you think? Did she knock it out of the park? In her defense, at least she TRIED to sing live, which is more than we can say for some of the no-talent hacks who masquerade as musicians. Also, the boys’ choir was a nice touch, and that tear-away dress? An even nicer touch … Katy Perry: Firework (Live at the AMAs)

New Kids On The Block, Backstreet Boys Talk Upcoming Tour At AMAs

NKOTB’s Jordan Knight tells MTV News that their American Music Awards By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Tim Kash Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Superstar boy bands New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys , who each spent a segment of the ’90s causing teen-girl hysteria with their squeaky-clean party jams and baby-faced good looks, are now joining forces for a U.S. tour in June. On Sunday night (November 21), the country got a taste of what an NKOTBSB show will look like when the nine-member collective closed the 2010 American Music Awards . Before hitting the AMA stage, the fellas told MTV News that the collaborative awards-show production mirrors the staging of their upcoming trek. “It’s gonna be exactly what they see on the tour,” NKOTB’s Jordan Knight said of the show, in which the guys took turns belting pop smashes by both groups. “I think a lot of people, when they hear New Kids are going on tour with the Backstreet Boys, they think we’re gonna, like, [face] off; we’re gonna be some kind of rivalry. But that’s not the case. They’re gonna see tonight onstage that it’s a collaboration, that we get along … and you’ll see it on our performance.” The amiable rapport among the crew is definitely evident when the guys talk about each band’s contribution to pop music. Members of NKOTB and BSB maintain that the groups have a symbiotic relationship: The New Kids paved the way, and the Boys kept the boy-band phenomenon alive. “In many ways, they contemporize us. They brought us to the forefront,” NKOTB’s Joey McIntyre explained. “When the Backstreet Boys came out, at first you’re like, ‘OK, these guys are kinda doing their thing.’ To get the credit that somehow we started [the boy-band trend] – which we didn’t, ’cause there’s New Edition and the Jackson 5 and this tradition’s being going on forever – they kinda shed a light on what we did too, and that’s nice.” Nick Carter added that the “Larger Than Life” crooners were amped to hit the road with their ’90s teen-idol forefathers. “We appreciate and respect everything that these guys have done for the music industry, and now it’s just great to be together,” he said. “I think that’s what’s awesome.” NKOTB’s resident bad boy Danny Wahlberg compared the team-up to a successful partnership straight out of Hollywood. “It’s Rocky and Apollo taking out Mr. T,” he quipped, as the fellas laughed. Young Boy strip searched by TSA

I wonder what it's going to take for us to collectively stand up, against this nonsense, in a meaningful way… “Lets get the facts straight first. Before the video started the boy went through a metal detector and didn't set it off but was selected for a pat down. The boy was shy so the TSA couldn't complete the full pat on the young boy. The father tried several times to just hold the boys arms out for the TSA agent but i guess it didn't end up being enough for the guy. I was about 30 ft away so i couldn't hear their conversation if there was any. The enraged father pulled his son shirt off and gave it to the TSA agent to search, thats when this video begins.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSQTz1bccL4 added by: insaintity

‘Deathly Hallows – Part 1’: Everything You Need To Know

We revisit all of the magic that went into creating the first of the ‘Harry Potter’ series’ two-part finale. By Eric Ditzian Ralph Fiennes in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1” Photo: Warner Bros. After the first five films in the franchise cast a combined $4.5 billion spell on the movie-going public, it was inevitable: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” J.K. Rowling’s final, 759-page book in the boy-wizard series, was going to be split into two separate movies. ” ‘The Deathly Hallows’ is so rich, the story so dense and there is so much that is resolved that after discussing it with [Rowling], we came to the conclusion that two parts were needed to do it justice,” producer David Heyman said in a statement explaining the move at the time. The announcement came in March 2008, well before “Half-Blood Prince” added a cool $934 million to that already gargantuan total. Good call, Warner Bros.! Now, part one of “Deathly Hallows” is upon us, and MTV News has got coverage of the flick stretching back to when the one-into-two-movies decision became public. Before you hop on your broomstick and swoop into the multiplex — or, you know, just take a car — check out everything there is to know about “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.” The Split OK, so we knew the book would be divided into two movies, but the big question was where the first movie would end and the second begin. We put that query to Emma Watson , a.k.a. Hermione Granger, in ’08. “I don’t know,” she admitted. “I am as intrigued as you are. I am waiting at the moment to receive the script. It’s a tough call. I’m sure it will be some cruel cliffhanger.” Right. Later, director David Yates dropped us a hint about the split. “We’ve had three or four different ideas about where to cut off the seventh film,” he said. “Traditionally, the movies have ended with a death or a bereavement, some sort of passage or arrival. This time we think we will end with more a cliffhanger.” For a while, there was a rumor that “Part 1” would indeed end with a cliffhanger: Harry and his friends would be captured and brought to Malfoy Manor, but that didn’t turn out to be true. The film, it turned out, would end when Voldemort gains control of the Elder Wand, one of the three Deathly Hallows that allow the holder to conquer death. And that, we learned after a recent screening, is exactly when the credits roll . The 3-D As “Avatar” made its record-breaking climb to box-office immortality, Warner Bros. announced that “Deathly Hallows” would be getting a post-production conversion to 3-D . ” ‘Harry Potter’ is already an epic film , but having that added dimension will make it even more epic, and that seemed like an opportunity that was too hard to pass up,” producer Heyman told us in March of this year. By that point, though, the conversion process still hadn’t been started. Would it be finished in time? And would the 3-D be high-quality enough to please fans jaded by substandard three-dimensional fare like “Clash of the Titans”? Apparently not. The studio announced in October that it was canceling 3-D for “Part 1.” “We do not want to disappoint fans who have long anticipated the conclusion of this extraordinary journey,” Warner Bros. said in a statement. Staring Into the ‘Hallows’ The shoot got started in early ’09, and months before production wrapped, we’d already received our first official look at the film. It was rather uninspiring, a simple photo of Hermione, Ron (Rupert Grint), and Harry (Daniel Radcliffe). Eh. Thankfully, subsequent peeks at the flick more than fulfilled expectations. Look, there’s Harry with his trusty wand . There’s the first trailer , with a Voldemort vs. Harry throwdown and a peek at footage from ‘Part 2.’ And a snap of Harry riding shotgun with Hagrid. And a final, high-intensity, super-dark trailer . As Rufus Scrimgeour says, “These are dark times, this is no denying.” What the Kids Have to Say About ‘Potter’ The fun kicked off in London last week during the London red-carpet premiere , the boys looking spiffy in their ties and the girls all glam in their haute couture. MTV News traveled across the pond for some one-on-one time with the cast. Both Watson and Radcliffe had some funny stuff to say about their surprising onscreen smooch. “It was only the day before that they said, ‘Oh, by the way, we hope it’s all right, but we want you to be topless , and we’re going to cover you in silver paint,’ ” Watson told us. “It was awkward enough as it was without the silver paint and the strapless bra, but whatever. It works. It looks good for the story.” Said Radcliffe , “I thought it was going to be a kind of a slow, sensual thing, and Emma really went for it.” We flew back to New York for another red-carpet premiere, just days before Friday’s (November 19) release. “It’s sad, absolutely,” Radcliffe said about the series coming to an end. “[But] we’re going out on a high note. To sustain this level of quality for 10 years is a very rare thing in a big franchise. I think it’s us and ‘Toy Story,’ to be honest. I think we’ve done amazingly. I’m thrilled.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
