‘Harry Potter’ Star Daniel Radcliffe Isn’t Interested In ‘Another Franchise’

‘Going on to any other franchise after ‘Potter’ might seem a little bit of a letdown,’ he tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe Photo: MTV News “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe is facing conflicting emotions these days. On one hand, Radcliffe is sad to see his time as the bespectacled hero come to an end. But on the other, he is very excited about his post-“Potter” possibilities. When MTV News caught up with him, his role in the upcoming “All Quiet on the Western Front” had not been announced, but Radcliffe knew enough at the time to tell us: “There’s lots of stuff on the horizon, but nothing in the immediate future.” Though the film world is essentially Radcliffe’s oyster, given his “Potter” star power, one area in which fans are not as likely to see him is in another big franchise. “I wouldn’t like to get involved with another franchise at all, really,” Radcliffe admitted. “I’ve done that, and I know what that’s like, and it’s been a wonderful thing. Going on to any other franchise after ‘Potter’ might seem a little bit of a letdown.” Instead, Radcliffe hopes to focus on making smaller independent films, but he didn’t rule out blockbusters completely. “If the script came for an amazing huge film, it would be churlish to say no,” he said. What if said amazing script was for the role of Bilbo in “The Hobbit”? “Potter” director David Yates is rumored to be in consideration for the directing gig, after all. “I don’t think I would be asked to play Bilbo,” Radcliffe said. “It’s a ridiculous rivalry [“Harry Potter” vs. “Lord of the Rings”] completely built up by the media, but I certainly would be wary of getting involved in another magical fantasy franchise.” What role would you like to see Radcliffe tackle next? What kinds of films should he make? Let us know in the comments! For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Kristen Stewart Thinks Some ‘Twilight’ Merchandise Is ‘Really Weird’

‘I’ve heard that there are pretty obscene items that you can get with the boys’ faces on them,’ the actress says. By Kara Warner Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News With any hugely successful movie franchise comes endless vehicles for promotion and opportunities for sponsored product tie-ins. Filmgoers and consumers alike are likely familiar with posters, fast-food toys, T-shirts, etc. — but with “Twilight”-related merchandise, however, the sky is really the limit. Because fans are so enthusiastic about any “Twilight” product, companies have come out of the woodwork with, in several cases, a lot of surprising products in order to capitalize on the newFANGled momentum. Take, for example, “Twilight”-inspired makeup, Sweet Tarts, action figures, greeting cards, party favors &#8212: and the list goes on and on and on. Not to mention the eyebrow-raising adult-themed items. When MTV News caught up with the films’ female star Kristen Stewart, we wondered if she had encountered any particularly odd items upon which her face had been imprinted or embossed, and whether said items provoked any emotional reaction. “I’ve heard that there are pretty obscene items that you can get with the boys’ faces on them,” Stewart said. “And that is just actually really weird — not even funny weird, just weird.” Stewart admitted that she considers the line of underwear with her co-stars’ faces on them to be “funny weird,” not weird-weird. She sounded relieved that her Bella-inspired items are slightly more generic. “I’m acually just on T-shirts and dolls and stuff, to be honest,” she said. “I don’t think I’m on bed sheets and stuff like that, which is still funny-weird.” What do you think of all the “Twilight” products on the market? What surprising or unique items would you consider buying? Tell us in the comments! We’ll be live at the L.A. premiere of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” on Thursday, June 24. ‘It was exactly the type of game we wanted,’ Boston Coach Doc Rivers says — except for the final score. Ugly, brutish basketball favored the boys from Boston.

Luke Wright wants England to hit the high notes in Scotland tune-up

• Andrew Strauss has point to prove in one-day format • ‘Our confidence is on fire,’ says England all-rounder Tomorrow’s match in Edinburgh does not have the spice of Anglo-Scottish encounters of the past at Wembley or Murrayfield. However, there is enough hanging on the contest to make it worthwhile. Scotland can measure themselves against one of the better teams in the world and England need to tune up for the five-match series against Australia. While Andrew Strauss, the experienced Test opener, is eager to remind us that he can still be an integral part of the 50-over side, Luke Wright, something of a Twenty20 specialist, would like to demonstrate he has plenty to offer the national team in the longer form of the white-ball game. Wright was an integral part of the Twenty20 side that won the World Cup in Barbados a month ago – even though he bowled only one over in the tournament. We know he is expected to play against Scotland since he was selected by the ECB to give his thoughts on the match, a task he fulfilled with due responsibility, carefully avoiding the trap of patronising England’s opponents. “It’s always a challenge every time you play against sides like Scotland, as we found out in the World Twenty20 against Ireland,” he said. “It’s a difficult challenge and you have to be at your best to beat them.” (Here his eagerness not to patronise England’s opponents was being stretched to the limit.) “And we all know what Australia are like. They always come back strong and they certainly want to put things right against us,” he added in a reference to England’s Twenty20 victory over Australia in the final in the Caribbean. “But we have a lot of confidence at the minute and hopefully we can build on that and put in some good performances. “We’ve come across quite a few challenges now as a squad and overcome them. Scotland are underdogs and it’s always difficult against teams who have nothing to lose. We have to be professional in the way we go about it. “But confidence-wise the boys are on fire right now and everyone is excited and looking forward to taking on these challenges.” The Scotland captain, Gavin Hamilton, insists this England team is the strongest the country have ever had. The former Yorkshire all-rounder picked up a solitary Test cap in 1999 and has been impressed with the new-look side. “It’s nice to see an England side performing, having an aura about them, looking like a team of athletes and like a proper international side capable of beating anyone,” he said. “I’ve played against these guys quite a lot and it’s nice to see them on top of the world, literally, in one-day cricket.” England Cricket Team Scotland Cricket Team Cricket Vic Marks guardian.co.uk

Courtney Lawes can be the heir to the talented Mr Ripley

The Northampton second-row has been waiting patiently for his chance to start for England and is ready to rampage tomorrow It would be a fitting tribute if England could mark the passing of one of their greatest rugby men with a stirring win over the Wallabies. Andy Ripley really was a man in a billion, an inspiration even to those who never saw him rampaging around Twickenham in his prime. That the English game has not produced a more thrillingly athletic forward before or since simply magnifies the huge sense of loss. Not once did the concept of damage limitation enter Ripley’s Corinthian soul, an approach the modern-day England side could do worse than embrace. Maybe Martin Johnson has arrived at the same conclusion, hence the belated decision to select Courtney Lawes for his first Test start. If there is a new age giant out there capable of generating an equal frisson with ball in hand as his head-banded, hippie-loving predecessor, the 21-year-old Lawes could just be the man. Theoretically Lawes is supposed to be a second-row, all grunt and close-quarter grind. Yet England also need ball carriers capable of knocking opponents backwards and blasting holes in the defensive line for their support runners to exploit. Eighteen months ago the word was already on the grapevine that Northampton had unearthed a gem with a spectacular mix of muscularity and momentum. And then nothing. Picked in England’s autumn squad the pretender has had to wait an intensely frustrating nine months for a start. If he has a stormer tomorrow, Lawes can justly claim to have fought his coaches’ innate conservatism and won. The player is aching to have a crack. The shy lad of last autumn, whose confidence slipped away either side of Christmas as he stumbled between the two stools of thwarted national ambition and club graft, has been replaced by a 6ft 7in tall, 18st hard nut, determined to reach out and seize the day. “I definitely feel ready. I feel very confident in myself and I’ve got a lot of support from the boys and the coaches. I was a little disappointed not to play during the Six Nations and lost my form a bit. But that’s fine if you pick yourself up again, which I have done. I’m looking to make an impact throughout the game: win my lineouts, make my tackles and get the ball in hand as much as possible.” There is a physical edge to Lawes that suggests he will be more than prepared to stand toe to toe with the experienced Nathan Sharpe and Rocky Elsom who, along with David Pocock, dominated the contact areas in Perth. There is already sufficient evidence of Lawes’s tackling strength to make opponents think twice and his capacity for punishment is bottomless. “I’ve never been too concerned about my body, to be honest,” he said this week. “I like making big tackles but so do most people. They’re pretty satisfying but I’m not a dirty player. If they want to get under my skin that’s fair enough. I’ll just try and hurt them legally.” If he speaks with the zeal of a relatively late convert it is because mini-rugby passed him by. Hailing from an Anglo-Jamaican background, he grew up in Northampton after his father, Linford, moved the family from Hackney when Courtney was four. Home was a few hundred yards from Franklin’s Gardens and he used to accompany his dad, a bouncer at a local pub, to martial arts training. Only in his teens at Northampton School for Boys did he sample rugby, eventually joining the Old Scouts club, which also produced Ben Cohen and Steve Thompson. A Northampton club stalwart, Lennie Newman, recalls going to watch his own son play and being deeply impressed by a gangling 17-year-old in the same team. “I remember thinking ‘Blimey, this guy is big’ but he was good as well. There was something special about him, and his physical size gave him that edge.” Winning the man-of-the-match award against Munster last October, when he stood firm against the Irish Lions Paul O’Connell and Donncha O’Callaghan, was another significant milestone yet Johnson, perhaps recalling how he felt when he was lobbed into international rugby as a 22-year-old, was determined not to rush him. But Simon Shaw will be 37 in September and time is pressing. Lawes, who can also operate on the blindside flank, is visibly delighted to be escaping bench duty. “You’ve got enough time to really make a difference in a game … you can do a lot more in 80 minutes than you can in 15. Playing against good sides also makes you raise your game and you can see how far you have to push yourself.” Lawes, in short, has the big-match appetite and the temperament necessary at this level. His appropriately long arms have earned him the name “Spider” but the Wallabies offer a physical and a mental test. “The more I can learn the better I’m going to get. I’ve got a bit wiser. I know how to get into the game and make a bigger impact. I know where to go to make the tackles and where to get the ball. It’s been a tough tour but we’re ready.” Ripley never had a koi carp tattooed on one arm or Maori tribal markings on the other but he would have admired the unflinching young dude hoping to create a little lawful disorder tomorrow. New Zealand Maori celebrate centenary with victory over Ireland

• Jonathan Sexton’s late penalty miss condemns Irish to defeat • Maoris celebrate ‘awesome’ victory The replacement fly-half Willie Ripia slotted a late penalty to help New Zealand Maori register a tight 31-28 victory over Ireland in their international match in Rotorua on Friday. The Ireland fly-half Jonathan Sexton, who had been flawless in kicking seven penalties and a conversion, had an opportunity to level the match with five minutes remaining but pushed his penalty attempt wide to the right for his only miss of the game. The victory is the latest against international sides for the Maori, who have also beaten England, Argentina, Scotland, Fiji, and the British and Irish Lions since the game went professional. The match is part of a series to commemorate the centenary of the formation of the first official Maori rugby team in New Zealand. They will also play England in Napier next Wednesday. “It’s awesome, the boys really dug in for 80 minutes and showed their character towards the end there,” the Maori captain, Liam Messam, said in a televised interview. “It’s 100 years and I think we celebrated it the right way.” The Maori jumped to an early 15-0 lead as winger Hosea Gear and centre Dwayne Sweeney both scored tries, while Luke McAlister slotted a conversion and penalty. The visitors, however, gradually clawed back into the game by patiently building phases that drew a stream of penalties, as Sexton slotted all six of his shots at goal to ensure the sides went into the break locked at 18-18. Ireland continued to build on their momentum with centre Paddy Wallace scoring a try straight from the restart, with Sexton converting to give Ireland a 25-18 lead. The Maori managed to stem the flow with McAlister kicking a long-range penalty to cut the deficit to three points, before replacement flanker Karl Lowe finished off a sweeping move that was started by winger Sean Maitland from inside his own half. Willie Ripia converted Lowe’s try before Sexton slotted his seventh penalty to tie the game at 28-28 with 15 minutes left. Ripia gave the Maori the lead before Sexton missed his relatively easy shot at goal and the home side held out. “We gave ourselves a real mountain to climb,” The Ireland captain, Geordan Murphy, said. “There are some positives we can take but also plenty to work on. Overall it’s a disappointment … we wanted to win.” Ireland rugby union team Rugby union guardian.co.uk

Chris Paul Recalls Having The ‘X-Factor’ On ‘When I Was 17’

New Orleans Hornets star and his high school friends called their crew the X-Factor and even had hoodies made. By MTV News staff Chris Paul Photo: MTV News Seven years before he made his third NBA All-Star team, five years before he played for the U.S. in the Olympics, and three years before he won the NBA’s Rookie of the Year Award, Chris Paul was just a 17-year-old high school kid who enjoyed hanging out with his friends as much as shooting hoops. OK, maybe not as much — Paul was named North Carolina’s Mr. Basketball during his senior year, after all. But as we learn in the upcoming episode of MTV’s “When I Was 17,” the New Orleans Hornets point guard has as many memories of chilling with his pals as he does about raining 3’s over their heads. And not all of those memories come off looking so cool years later. Case in point: the crew he and his friends created. “We had a little crew called the X-Factor,” Paul revealed. The group was comprised mostly of football players, with the 6-foot-tall Paul contributing his fast feet, if not bulk. “We felt like we needed something to set ourselves apart, so we had jackets made,” he said. “Then going down the sleeve it said ‘X-Factor.’ ” The sweatshirts were white with mint-green graphics. There were hand-drawn, comic book-style musclemen placed here and there, a photo silkscreened on the back and a quote from Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Paul and his boys thought they were pretty cool. Paul’s brother CJ was less than impressed. “I just remember Chris came home, had a hoodie that said ‘X-Factor’ on it,” CJ laughed. “I thought they were very lame.” But to this day, Paul remains proud of his crew and their gear. “There’s always going to be haters,” he said. “But I think they were more envious, because whatever they were a part of would never be bigger and better than the X-Factor.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Chris Paul, Pitbull and Vanessa Minnillo — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV. Bafana continues winning streak 1-0 over Denmark

By Nthambeleni Gabara Pretoria- Bafana Bafana continued their winning streak by beating 36 ranked Denmark 1-nil at the Lucas “Masterpieces” Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday. The goal was courtesy of Mamelodi Sundowns striker, Katlego “Killer” Mphela, who has been in fine form since Bafana began their FIFA World Cup preparations. It was Mphela’s 14th goal for the national team. Today’s victory extended Bafana’s winning record to 12 unbeaten matches. It was visible from the beginning of the match that the home team was full of confidence and hungry for a victory. Duo Siphiwe Tshabalala and Kagisho Dikgacoi sent a fantastic cross to unmarked Teko Modise in the box in the 28th minute which showed that the Danish defence had run out of steam, however, the Orlando Pirates playmaker headed the ball wide. Bafana looked good in the first half and kept ball possession and when they controlled the ball in the middle of the park, they continued to dominate, while the visitors lagged behind. In the second half, the Danish players tried to take control but lost focus. Reneilwe Letsholonyane had a chance with the ball after brilliant moves by teammates Tshabalala and Modise and unleashed a grass cutter 28 metres from the box, but Anderson was well-positioned to palm the ball away. In the 76th minute the Danish keeper brilliantly saved a close range shot from Mphela. In the dying minutes of the game, Bafana’s number one goal keeper, Itumeleng Khune denied the Danish team an equalizer. He saved a close range shot, which drew loud applause from the hundreds of fans that were present at the stadium. A delighted Carlos Alberto Parreira who has pledged to make South Africans proud during the World Cup said a win against another World Cup qualifying team shows that his boys are ready for the tournament. “To me this is a special win because we’ve just defeated an experienced side with full of quality players. We played with confidence and personality. The path that we took to prepare the team for the tournament proved to be the right one today. “This is a job well-done for the players and I am happy about their performance and the good results. We are ready to fight for our position at the World Cup. Everybody has to respect us,” he said. The team’s skipper, Aaron Mokoena, said it was a tough match for Bafana, but their victory boosted their morale. Source -BuaNews 2010 World Cup Blog for the Fans

Ice Cube Says ‘Put Your Money On’ L.A. Lakers In NBA Finals

The West Coast MC and superfan roots for the purple-and-gold, gripes about unreliable refs. By Shaheem Reid Ice Cube Photo: MTV News Legendary West Coast mic enforcer Ice Cube is excited that the NBA Finals are upon us, but he feels that there may be something shady going on to make sure the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Boston Celtics series is extended as far as it can go. MTV News recently talked ball with Cube, and he insisted his beloved Lake show are the superior team, but the Cs may have some help from the boys-in-stripes, making some shady rulings inevitable during game play. “It’s gonna take [NBA Commissioner] David Stern to stop telling these refs how to ref these games,” Cube said, when asked what he thought it would take for the Lakers to repeat as NBA Champions. “I don’t know if they telling them how to ref these games, but it’s just ridiculous sometimes when I see these refs making sure that the series is extended. Games are leaned towards this team or that team. Every year is the same old dance. Everybody can pick two or three games where you knew the league had their hand in it.” True to Cube’s gripes, there were several questionable calls made during Game 2 of the finals Sunday night at the Staples Center, home of the Lakers. Even the team has had their complaints in the past about the finals officiating. Despite the refs’ calls, Cube said he felt confident his team will triumph over Boston, just like they did over the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference Finals. “What about the Celtics?” Cube asked with a grin. “They can’t beat us four times without help either. They need help from the refs too. Did you see Game 2, when we played them in the finals that year [2008]? Game 2 was ridiculous. Ridiculous! It’s the same thing. It ain’t about the series. It’s about ‘Will it go to Game 6 or Game 7?’ That’s all the league care about.” Still, Cube said it’s purple-and-gold — all the way. “You sound like you got some doubt,” he said like the superfan he is. “Let me put that to rest. We got the team to win it all this year. Put your money on the Lakers.” The Lakers and Celtics play Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night. Who are you rooting for in the NBA Finals?
