Fareed Zakaria Calls Out Glenn Beck’s Math Skills On Muslim Terrorist Claim

Fareed Zakaria, who occasionally throws fairly well-disguised bombs from his perches at CNN and Time in a manner so serene many fail to notice– is taking on his cable news stylistic opposite, Glenn Beck– or at the very least, his math skills. In his trademark soothing tones, Zakaria gave Beck a math lesson on those 10%, or 157 million, “Muslim terrorists” Beck claimed were plotting to attack America– namely, that that figure is “1000% wrong.” Zakaria opens up his segment, aptly titled “What in the world?,” by simply following through on the 10% math to figure out just how many people 10% of the international Muslim community would be. Zakaria’s lesson even included a virtual chalkboard, just to make sure Beck got the message, one must assume. He correctly points out would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 157,000,000 Muslim terrorists, and notes Beck’s laments of “why, oh why wasn’t this receiving any media coverage?” Zakaria’s answer? “Well, let me suggest one reason: it is total nonsense– a figure made up by Glenn Beck with absolutely no basis in fact.” He also uses U.S. State Department figures to negate Beck’s, which claim there were 11,000 total terrorist attacks around the world in 2009, including every act of terror in Iraq and Afghanistan, and testimony from terror expert Peter Bergen, who emailed Zakaria to tell him Beck’s figures were “1000% wrong.” It doesn’t get much better for Beck during Zakaria’s semi-out of character deconstructing of his argument. Team Beck, meanwhile, has already put together a comprehensive retort to Zakaria, with data showing, among other things, that support for Osama Bin Laden “ranges from 4% in Azerbaijan to 56% in the Palestinian territories.” added by: TimALoftis

Media Mostly Ignore Democrat Saying ‘F–k the President’

Hundreds at Elizabeth Edwards’ funeral protest Westboro presence

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., known for picketing outside military funerals, brought a small group to picket near the funeral service for Elizabeth Edwards Saturday, but they were far outnumbered by a group that organized a counterprotest in support of “promoting proper respect for funerals.” As the Edwards funeral began, three adults and two children from the Westboro church were on one side of Edenton Street, holding signs denigrating Edwards. On the other side of the street, in front of the Justice Department building, several hundred counterprotesters gathered in the drizzle. Signs in the crowd said, “God loves Elizabeth Edwards,” and others, in pink, said simply, “Hope” and “Hero.” The crowd supporting Edwards sang Christmas carols, the National Anthem and “Lean on Me,” the Bill Withers classic. Other supporters circled the block in cars, playing country music as the crowd cheered. Some supporters brought American flag umbrellas to pass out to the crowd, and one man brought a poster-making kit. Among the Edwards supporters was Bob Krasnicka, who came from Wake Forest to help. “I'm sick of hearing about these people going to funerals and spreading their hate,” said Krasnicka, 48, referring to the Westboro protesters. Of Edwards, he said, “I know she has young children who don't need to be seeing this kind of hate.” Read more: http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2010/12/11/105139/hundreds-rally-at-elizabeth-edwards… added by: JanforGore

Mexican Cartels Blockcade City With Burning Cars

At least three people were killed, including an eight-month-old baby apparently caught in the crossfire. Michoacan, in western Mexico, is a stronghold of a powerful drugs cartel known as La Familia Michoacana. The five main roads leading in and out of Morelia were blocked by burning cars and buses, police said. Gunmen fired into the air to force drivers and passengers out of their vehicles before setting them ablaze. Schools kept children inside their classrooms for their protection, and the city's university was closed, the Mexican newspaper El Universal reported. Fighting broke out as police moved in to clear the blockades. The upsurge in violence in Michoacan began on Wednesday when federal police went into the city of Apatzingan to search for suspected La Familia gang members, police said. They quickly came under fire with automatic weapons, and police reinforcements were also attacked as they drove to assist their colleagues. Army troops and helicopters were also brought in, and the cartel gunmen retreated, blocking the road behind them with burning vehicles. One police officer was killed along with two civilians – a baby and a young woman. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-11966108 added by: ibrake4rappers13

Open Source vs. Commercial Software Security

Unless a piece of software explicitly says its aim is to be more secure then whether it's open source or a commercial software package doesn't matter. Software can be written securely or insecurely by an open-source project or a commercial vendor – it's all a matter of priority… https://www.infosecisland.com/blogview/10011-Open-Source-vs-Commercial-Software-… added by: Paisano1
