1D’s Niall Horan relives the ‘absolutely nuts’ fan reaction during the band’s Up All Night tour and tells us which city has been the rowdiest. By Jocelyn Vena Niall Horan of One Direction Photo: One Direction have been taking their boy band antics across the States since May for their first-ever American headlining tour . And, with only days left on the massive Up All Night jaunt, 1D-er Niall Horan, recalled with MTV News the “absolutely nuts” time they’ve had. “It’s been, as you can see clearly, it’s been absolutely nuts. We’re still trying to get out head around it,” he said, hours before hitting the stage in Charlotte. “It’s been crazy. We’ve had a lot of fun … we’re doing these things called sheds, so they’re outside and inside. There are like 20,000 people on an outdoor gig and they’re really good to do. They’re really fun. It’s really warm outside and the crowds, they’re amazing.” With fans doing anything they can to get the guys’ attention while they’re on stage (including throwing bras at them ) Niall says that the last few shows have included far fewer undergarments being tossed at the stage. “They’ve kind of toned it down a little bit. It was worse. Now it’s kind of iPhones and keys, which are kind of dangerous. “When we were in New York, we were on our day off and me and Liam [Payne] was going down the street with one of our security guards and we got absolutely mobbed by like 600 people in Times Square,” he said. “I thought ‘There is literally not one place I can walk down the street.’ ” But, it’s not just screaming girls who are turning out to see the guys. Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell tweeted about attending the 1D show in Atlanta, a show that just happened to be one of Niall’s favorites (or at least the loudest). “We didn’t have a clue what we were singing. We couldn’t hear anything,” he said. “We’re very lucky we’ve got amazing crowds. We never have a bad crowd. We’re very lucky we kind of get the adrenaline rush off them.” While Atlanta may have been the rowdiest show, New Jersey remains Niall’s favorite for the opposite reason. “Harry [Styles] got the crowd to take their phones and lights out of their pocket and we turned off the lights so you couldn’t see the crowd and all you could see are the lights swaying,” he said. “I think that was a special night cause we thought it’s all very high-energy, but when the show is taken down like a somber level it’s quite nice.” Are you planning on seeing One Direction on tour? W magazine publishes a series of revealing images. By Eric Ditzian Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander in W Magazine Photo: Jean-Baptiste Mondino If you thought the first official looks at Rooney Mara as the title character in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” were a touch provocative — she posed with a bared chest and bloody hands in one, her buttocks exposed in another — you haven’t seen anything yet. W magazine has published a new series of photos of Mara as Lisbeth Salander, capturing the 25-year-old actress in an array of revealing poses. In one pic, Mara stands topless on a snowy Stockholm street, clutching her breasts and looking utterly dazed, unaware of her surroundings. Another shows the actress rocking a tiny T-shirt and tinier tutu, the expanse of her belly exposed and the makings of biceps clear in her upturned arms. This is Mara unlike we’ve seen her before; a pre-makeover image of the actress included in the photo series underscores her comprehensive transformation. Director David Fincher may have seen something in Mara when they worked together on “The Social Network,” but her Salander bares preciously zero resemblance to the ponytailed college student she played in Fincher’s current Oscar darling. Other new photos include Mara in ripped tights straddling a motorcycle (she reportedly has learned how to ride for the role); lighting a cigarette and staring into the camera as if to say, “What the f— are you looking at?”; and rocking a mohawk and looking much more vulnerable than in the tough-gal poses. Said Fincher of his conception of the character, often said to resemble a modern-day Pippi Longstocking, “Lisbeth is the goth Pippi.” Are you excited to see Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander? McLean Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Just as Backstreet Boys fever is back in full force as the guys gear up to hit the road with New Kids on the Block this summer comes news that BSB’s A.J. McLean has returned to rehab. “For personal reasons, I’ve checked myself into a rehab clinic,” McLean said in a statement to MTV News. “With 2011 being a busy year for Backstreet, I want to be healthy and at my best. Thank you for all of your support and respecting my family and friends’ privacy during this time. I’ll see you really soon.” TMZ reports that sources close to the pop star say he has been “out of control” as of late due to issues with substance abuse. Reportedly, he was under the influence during much of the Backstreet Boys cruise last month. He allegedly entered rehab, his third time in a decade, because his issues were affecting the planning stages of the NKOTBSB tour, set to begin this June. A rep for the singer had not responded to MTV News’ request for comment at press time. However the singer did leave some messages for his fans on Twitter that alluded to a possible upcoming stint in rehab. “Thank u all for my bday wishes and tweets:)! Its gonna be a great year! I love u all and wish me luck! I start my sober journey tomm! Ttfn!” he wrote January 9. One day later, he added, “Hey all wish me luck! This is gonna be an amazing year for me and all around me! I love u all and appreciate all the love and support” McLean previously entered rehab in July 2001, just as the Backstreet Boys planned to kick off their Black & Blue world tour. He also went to rehab the following year in 2002. “[A.J.] came to us yesterday and said, ‘Guys, I need help,’ ” group member Brian Littrell told MTV News in 2001. “I looked at him in the eyes and said, ‘I’m proud of you.’ That’s the first time he said it to any of us: ‘Guys, I have a problem, and I wanna better myself and better the group and better our situation.’ ” Related Artists Backstreet Boys
