PETA Rips Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen Over $17K Fur Backpacks

PETA is ripping fashion designer duo Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen for using animal pelts to create their latest backpack, which retails for around $17,000. That’s not a typo. “What the Olsens lack in creativity, they try to make up for with shock value,” the animal rights group said in a statement regarding the pricey accessory. PETA protesters (seen here in 2008) have gone after the Olsen Twins for years . The backpack is a patchwork design made of various animal furs, a fact that has PETA livid with the twosome to the point of bitter name-calling. “If it looks like a troll and acts like a troll, it’s probably a Trollsen Twin – or somebody wearing one of their new totes,” the group continues. PETA calls on consumers not to purchase the products “which are made from the fur and skins of innocent animals” or anything by the Olsens. Ashley Olsen and Mary Kate Olsen, who jointly run The Row, captured the Womenswear Designer of the Year honors at the CFDA Fashion Awards in June. They should probably be on the lookout for paint can assaults. [Photo: WENN.com]

Marcus Jordan, Son of NBA Legend, Arrested for Disorderly Conduct

Marcus Jordan has shot an airball with the law. The 21-year old son of former NBA legend Michael Jordan was arrested early Sunday morning outside the Embassy Suites in Omaha, Nebraska after police spotted him arguing with two women. According to various reports, it took a multitude of cops to subdue Jordan, actually placing him in handcuffs after he refused to cooperate. He was the arrested for resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and obstructing. Marcus plays basketball at the University of Central Florida and it’s unclear how this brush with the law will affect his standing there. But this much is certain: this is not an example of how to be like Mike.

Cissy Houston, Mariah Carey Lead Whitney Tribute at BET Awards

Cissy Houston and Mariah Carey were at the forefront of an emotional tribute to Whitney Houston at last night’s BET Awards . The latter kicked off the 19-minute event, recalling stories about Whitney – who tragically overdosed and died in February – and told the audience: “I miss my friend. I miss hearing her voice and laughter.” Monica and Brandy also took to the stage, singing multiple Whitney hits, while former Waiting to Exhale co-stars Angela Bassett, Lela Rochon and Loretta Devine honored their late friend. But it was Cissy who brought tears to the eyes of all in attendance. She sang a version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and A-listers such as Beyonce and Soulja Boy were caught on camera crying.
