Don’t Call It A Comeback: Todd Bridges Set To Appear In Adam Sandler Film

Bossip had a Todd Bridges sighting at Tuesday night’s premiere of “Madison County” in LA: One of horror’s most highly-anticipated films, Madison County made its world premiere as a marquee presentation during ScreamFest 2011. Madison County is a horror film about a group of college kids that travel to a remote, mountain town called Madison County, to interview the author of a tell-all book on the accounts of the grisly murders that happened in the town over two decades before. Upon their arrival, the author is nowhere to be found and the townspeople state that they haven’t seen him in years. They also deny that Damien Ewell, the notorious murderer, ever existed and that the murders ever happened. Bridges revealed to Bossip.com exclusively that he is busy writing a follow-up to his explosive best-selling book, “Killing Willis” for a target release date in early June 2012 when he returns to the big screen in Adam Sandler’s “I Hate You, Dad.” We’re proud to see Todd doing so well now that he’s off that stuff. Keep up the good work homie.

UFC President Dana White Says Women Will “Never” Fight In His Octogon

Sounds like the UFC isn’t trying to let the ladies catch fade, but we can’t figure out why. Everybody likes to watch a cat fight. White briefly confirmed that heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is doing well in his recovery from surgery, then was asked, “When are we going to see women in the UFC?” White replied, “never.” Fortunately for those of us who want to see women in the Octagon, White has shown in the past that “never” does not mean what he thinks it means. White himself has acknowledged that his “nevers” often don’t last. Before James Toney stepped into the Octagon, White said, “I said I would never put on a freak show. I’m putting on a freak show.” Other examples of White going back on his “never in the UFC” words: When Karo Parisyan pulled out of his UFC 106 fight, White declared he would never fight in the UFC again. When B.J. Penn spurned the UFC to go fight in Japan in 2004, White told him he’d never fight in the UFC again. When Chuck Liddell was knocked out by Shogun Rua, White said Liddell would never fight in the UFC again. So what makes me think women in the UFC will some day be added to the list of Dana White “nevers” that weren’t really nevers? The primary reason is financial. Right now, there’s not a female actively fighting who could make a big enough difference to the UFC’s bottom line for the UFC to sign her. But there was a time, just a couple of years ago, when Gina Carano was becoming popular enough that White and Lorenzo Fertitta contacted her about possibly entering the Octagon. That didn’t work out, and right now there’s no female draw comparable to Carano in 2009, but there’s no reason another female fighter couldn’t gain enough popularity outside the UFC to make White want to see her in the UFC. But there’s another reason I think White will change his mind: Giving women a shot in the UFC is simply the right thing to do. C’mon Dana, don’t be an idiot, “never” never means “never” it just means “until the money gets right”. Stephen Dorff Talks ‘Somewhere,’ Career Ups And Downs

‘I thought I was a sell-out, playing a vampire,’ the actor says about his memorable role in ‘Blade.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Stephen Dorff Photo: MTV News Although his role in “Somewhere” was one of the most challenging of his career, Stephen Dorff is grateful to writer/director Sofia Coppola for giving him the opportunity to play a character who is a complete departure from the menacing, murderous types audiences are used to seeing him portray. When MTV News caught up with the actor, he explained that “Somewhere” is the kind of independent art film he was most interested in at the start of his career — which has spanned more than two decades — but when Hollywood started calling, he reluctantly veered into bigger films playing bad boys and villains. “[After the 1992 coming-of-age drama ‘Power of One,’] Hollywood was coming to me, but I was kind of resisting,” Dorff said of his early years in the business. “I really wanted to make art films. I loved working on movies like ‘I Shot Andy Warhol’ [and] ‘S.F.W.’ I liked doing edgier things. I was kind of into Nirvana, I was into rebelling against my childhood.” He added, “I wasn’t really interested in playing vulnerable, sweet parts, like I played in ‘Power of One’ and ‘Backbeat,’ so in a way I think I did that to my own image. I kind of fought it. Then, when it came time to wanting to do [a sensitive role again], it wasn’t necessarily there for me. “Then ‘Blade’ came around and I thought that was the end of my career,” Dorff admitted. “Because I thought I was a sell-out, playing a vampire.” Dorff said that those reservations eventually subsided and that he enjoyed making the action-horror flick. “I had a good time with [director] Steve Norrington,” Dorff said. “I knew he was talented. I had seen this little teeny movie he did and I knew this guy was going to make a good movie.” Dorff went on to say that now he feels that “Blade,” as well as the first “Matrix” movie, were well ahead of their time with regard to what they opened up for filmmaking. “Now we have so many comic-book movies and they’re kind of regenerating the same movie,” he explained. “In a way, there’s not much originality to them. I like that we did ours earlier.” Dorff said that leading up to and after “Blade,” he tried going for less dark roles, but that he couldn’t resist opportunities to work with the likes of Jack Nicholson (1997’s “Blood and Wine”) and other great actors, so he became typecast. “Up until now, really, this movie is the first time somebody like Sofia [Coppola] said, ‘Well there’s another side to Stephen, maybe he can play the leading man, maybe he can be a little sweeter and not have to kill everybody,” Dorff suggested. “It’s nice that now I get texts after ‘Somewhere’ [that say,] ‘You make such a good dad!’ ” he reveals about his family members’ reactions to his performance in the film. “It’s so different than ‘Why were you so scary and mean?’ ”

Jeff Bridges Relayed ‘Lebowski’ Theories To Coen Brothers On ‘True Grit’ Set

Oscar-winning actor says he’d love to team up with directing duo again. By Terri Schwartz Jeff Bridges Photo: MTV News Fans might find Jeff Bridges’ most-memorable performance to be as The Dude in the Coen brothers’ 1998 comedy “The Big Lebowski,” and Bridges is looking to impress audiences yet again as Rooster Cogburn in his second Coen brothers flick, “True Grit.” Unsurprisingly, Bridges is a fan of Joel and Ethan Coen’s directing style, which is what had him returning for more. When MTV News asked what his favorite Coen films are, Bridges responded with a laugh, “[‘True Grit’] is the freshest in my mind. Number two would be ‘Lebowski.’ I’m partial, but two great movies!” For Bridges, returning to the set of a Coen brothers film was like returning to an old group of friends. On each of their films, the Coens surround themselves with many of the same crewmembers, including cinematographer Roger Deakins and composer Carter Burwell, and Bridges said the sense of community onset makes the environment “very easy-going.” Bridges and the Coens only made plans for the Oscar-winning actor to star in “Lebowski” and “True Grit,” but Bridges said he’d love to team up with the directing duo again. “I’d like to do whatever. They’re a joy to work with, and they really know how to do it,” he said. That comment might have fans crossing their fingers for a “Big Lebowski 2,” and Bridges said The Dude still has a special place in both his and the Coens’ hearts. With fans still approaching him to talk about “Lebowski,” Bridges said he and the Coens talked about the cult classic on the set of “True Grit.” “Everybody’s got different things to say about ‘The Big Lebowski,’ ” Bridges explained. “One guy came up to me with a theory. He said I’ve got to check this out with the brothers. It was very earnest and desperate. He said, ‘Donny [Steve Buscemi] is a figment of Walter’s [John Goodman] imagination. He doesn’t really exist.’ It gets you thinking a little bit, doesn’t it? So I ran that by the brothers, and they chortled, and that was about it.” Which is your favorite Coen brothers film? Jeff Bridges Heaps Praise On ‘True Grit’ Co-Star Hailee Steinfeld

Bridges calls the 14-year-old actress’ performance ‘remarkable.’ By Terry Schwartz Jeff Bridges Photo: MTV News With the Coen brothers’ “True Grit” making its way into theaters on Christmas weekend, all eyes likely will be turning to newcomer Hailee Steinfeld, who plays the film’s young leading lady, Mattie Ross. In her first major role, the 14-year-old actress ultimately has to carry the first portion of the movie, and her performance has been garnering some serious buzz during this awards season. When MTV News caught up with Steinfeld’s co-star Jeff Bridges while he was promoting “True Grit,” he said he was impressed by the intensity of her performance while they were filming on set. “What a tough, challenging role for a seasoned actor. All that dialogue, kind of tricky way of speaking. Thirteen-year-old girl, never been in a movie, and she comes up with that performance,” Bridges gushed. “Isn’t that remarkable?” Steinfeld found herself surrounded by a full cast and crew of cinema veterans. The Coen brothers won an Oscar for directing 2008’s “No Country for Old Men” and have been nominated two other times, Bridges took home a Best Actor Oscar for his role in last year’s “Crazy Heart,” and Matt Damon and Josh Brolin both have received Academy Award nods in acting categories in the past. But Bridges said Steinfeld didn’t need any acting tips from himself or any of the other castmembers. “I might have slipped out a tip once or twice, and I always regret when I would do that. It’s almost like a reflex action — you can’t help but put yourself into the other actor’s position sometimes,” he explained. “I always appreciate a tip from some guy, one of the other players, but no, I let her run free. The brothers directed her beautifully.” With all the buzz Steinfeld has been getting for her “True Grit” performance, she now is one of the main actresses being looked at to play another strong female character: Katniss Everdeen in “The Hunger Games.” When Steinfeld spoke with MTV recently while promoting “True Grit,” she said it “would definitely be an honor” to even be considered for the Katniss role. “I didn’t even realize that people were mentioning my name,” she said. “It’s every actor’s dream to be recognized for something that they love to do, and to get recognized for that is pretty amazing. I thank the people out there who think that.” Check out everything we’ve got on “True Grit.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
