With 2010 drawing to a close, it is with much pride that THG unveils its 10 finalists for its prestigious, Fourth Annual Celebrity of the Year award. These stars all gave us their best, their worst, their nude pics (sometimes) and their scandals (often). This month, THG honors that greatness. Following Lindsay Lohan checking in at #8 after checking into rehab eight times, we present Celebrity of the Year finalist #7 … Sarah Palin ! Sarah Palin and her equally-entertaining offspring . It’s hard to believe that two years ago, someone on THG’s Celebrity of the Year countdown was nominated for Vice President of the United States. Sarah Palin treats convention like she does the English language, though. Since resigning as Alaska Governor last summer, she’s gone on to, uhh … hmm. Become a professional celebrity? Tough to put your finger on, but she’s certainly not a political figure anymore. Political figures advocate for policy and progress. Sarah Palin advocates for Sarah Palin. Relentlessly. With the exception of PETA and Speidi, no organization is as persistently shameless in pursuit of attention, controversy and headlines than Sarah Palin Inc. She’s great at what she does. Whether you abhor or adhere to her conservative ideals, you gotta give her that … and be glad she no longer holds office. Some Sarah highlights from 2010 include: Inventing the word refudiate Using crib notes in speeches Calling out Family Guy Criticizing American Idol stars Wrote a book, apparently Getting a reality show on TLC Shooting caribou on television Going camping with Kate Gosselin Yup, it’s been a busy year. Her kids got in on the act as well. Bristol Palin made it to the finals on Dancing With the Stars , briefly got engaged a second time to Levi Johnston, filmed an abstinence PSA with The Situation and so on. Even Willow Palin, Bristol’s younger sister, got people all riled up with a homophobic Facebook rant at some dude who said Sarah Palin’s Alaska was failing so hard. Do the fierce lil’ grizzly cubs stick up for their mama? You betcha, and more power to ’em. Here’s a photo tribute to a woman like no other in this great country …

By Jocelyn Vena Chelsea Handler and Kathy Griffin Photo: Getty Images Chelsea Handler and Kathy Griffin have struck comedy gold over the years poking fun at celebrities. But recently their comedic jabs have gotten the ladies into a bit of hot water: Griffin for mocking Bristol Palin’s weight and Handler for making comments about Angelina Jolie’s love life . So when the two sat down on Handler’s E! talk show , they aruged that while people may take offense at their words, what they are doing isn’t bullying. “There’s a big difference between being a comedian and bullying,” Griffin said when she appeared on “Chelsea Lately” on Thursday night. The show’s host agreed, noting, “Bullying is being a bully to someone who’s defenseless, a poor little person who’s done nothing wrong, not the people who are a–holes. When you act irresponsibly and run around the world like Lindsay Lohan, you’re gonna get made fun of by me.” It’s not the first time Handler has defended her comedy. After footage of a recent act, during which she made some seething comments about Jolie, appeared online, she explained, “They were talking about me on ‘The View,’ talking about me and my Angelina Jolie tirade. Can I just say that I’ve been making fun of Angelina Jolie since she made out with her brother?” she remarked. “If I’ve learned nothing from this, it’s to write new jokes.” For those wondering what Handler’s beef is with Jolie, the comedian is pals with Jennifer Aniston, who was married to Brad Pitt before he hooked up with Jolie.

Dancing With the Stars Really Wants Lindsay Lohan!

We’re reported the rumor already, but it looks like Lindsay Lohan is really in talks to be a contestant on the hit show Dancing With the Stars. After what seemed like endless legal problems that landed her in jail and rehab, the ABC hit wants to give LiLo a chance to rehab her image. “Lindsay has been talking with the DWTS people,” a source close to her said. “She is definitely interested and considering being on the show.” We may see Lindsay Lohan bust a move! While the troubled star remains in rehab at the Betty Ford Center, she has the full support of her treatment team behind her for this gig. “Lindsay’s treatment team actually thinks that Dancing With the Stars would be a perfect transition back to work for her,” says the insider. “She would have a set schedule, she would be occupied and would be very productive. Lindsay wanted their approval before proceeding.” She got it, too – it’s a far cry from Lindsay Lohan nude in Inferno – and it could be a good fit. DWTS producers have wanted her for a while. “Dancing with the Stars producers have had Lindsay on their wish list of cast mates for a very long time,” a source tells Radar Online . Not only would she generate a lot of buzz (a la Kate Gosselin and Bristol Palin), Lindsay would actually be a tough contender as well! Says a source close to the negotiations: “She would be great on the show; she could maybe even win because she is a great dancer!” Our two editors debated whether she should do DWTS recently. This celebrity gossip expert said yes, it would be the perfect route back. His counterpart said no, she needs more time to recuperate. What do you think? Should she go Dancing with the Stars?

Kathy Griffin made a crack about Bristol Palin’s weight recently. Bristol responded on cue, although not on Facebook for once. Griffin made fun of her appearance while hosting VH1 Divas Salute the Troops Friday, calling B.P. “the only contestant in the history of the show to actually gain weight,” a somewhat harsh crack that elicited booing, not laughter. “Come on, come on. She gained like 30 pounds a week,” Griffin then continued amid jeers. “I swear to God, it was fantastic. She’s like the white Precious .” Wow. Instead of devising a lengthy comeback like usual (see her gay joke at Margaret Cho ), the 20-year-old kept her rebuttal short and sweet this time around. “The audience’s reaction to this ‘comedian’ spoke volumes, and the decent people I know would probably have booed her, too,” Bristol Palin told Fox News. “I hope people didn’t pay money to hear her negativity and criticisms.” NOTE to comedians: Stop talking about the Palins and maybe they’ll stop replying.

With Lindsay Lohan, they’d not only have a buzz-worthy star, but a lock for the redemption angle. When I heard DWTS was courting LiLo , I was skeptical. Is she ready for the spotlight so soon, I wondered. But what better start to her post-rehab life ? This is a girl once known for family-friendly projects. Now that she’s really turning a corner in her troubled life, she can endear herself to 20 million people. Whether it’s fans’ first look at Lohan 2.0, or a welcome comeback by the adorable Parent Trap star, she can actually dance, giving her a leg up on Bristol! NO by Hilton Hater Lindsay Lohan should not go Dancing with the Stars for one reason: she’d win in a landslide. Seriously, check out “Jingle Bell Rock” choreography in Mean Girls . But even more seriously: DWTS is viewed by over 20 million people a week. While the resumes of its “Stars” may often be thin, at least these contestants are known for SOMEthing in their professional field. (Okay, except Bristol Palin .) Sadly, Lindsay isn’t known as anything but a train wreck at this point. The acting boat sailed about two drug arrests ago. How would ABC even describe her? Lindsay Lohan, Professional Rehabber? Chaos broke out on the set of Conan last night when guest Joel McHale stopped ragging on Oprah and his Community co-star Chevy Chase to call out a young audience member’s wardrobe choice. But fear not — Conan, Andy Richter and second guest Tim Gunn heroically came to the audience member’s defense. Meanwhile, Stephen Colbert introduced a new product called meat goggles, Regis Philbin did card tricks and Conan vlogged about Bristol Palin from his bedroom.

LOL. No, we don’t really believe the above headline. Jennifer Grey is as worthy a Dancing With the Stars champion as they come. But Bristol Palin, for all that was said about her, got kind of a bad rap. Her third-place finish was, in the opinion of many pundits and Palin haters, waaay too high. But was it actually just about right … or not high enough? America’s collective reaction to Bristol’s DWTS run . We’ve talked at length about why she should have gone home sooner, but now, let’s give the girl her due. Here’s a list of reasons Bristol deserved to win it … She improved A LOT this fall, and Jennifer Grey? Kind of a ringer. Brandy and Audrina fans could’ve stepped up too, and did not. She wasn’t a complete stiff. Seriously. She’s no Kate Gosselin . Her scores never led the pack, but were always competitive. She’s not Sarah Palin, and isn’t worthy of that kind of vitriol. Thanks in part to Bristol, Willow Palin went off on Facebook.

Willow Palin is not happy with the media. Must run in the family. A week after her big sister, Bristol Palin, apologized for Willow’s use of a gay slur on Facebook , the 16-year-old spawn of Sarah is sounding off solo. In a statement to E!, Willow goes off on Facebook haters, scandalous “lies” in Life & Style and Bristol’s run to the Dancing With the Stars finale . Bristol, Sarah, Trig and Willow Palin with He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named . “Today I am focusing on a special event – Bristol and Mark [Ballas]’s appearance in the Dancing With the Stars finals. Nothing will take away how proud we are of Bristol and her grit and determination that got her this far,” says Willow Palin. Then her attention turned to the “ridiculous” reports, namely a Life & Style story painting the wild child as a crazy, vodka-chugging drug dealer . “It is disappointing to see people claim they know me to sell stories,” she said . “As for people accusing me of being at a party over a year ago, the accusations are ridiculous. The same people saying this were also the ones attacking my family on Facebook. Unfortunately some people have learned that there are publications that will pay money for stories, no matter how misleading.” “Nevertheless, I recognize that my family has been given a great honor and privilege to make a difference in this country, and even though I am just 16, more is expected of me,” she continues. “That being said, I say this to Bristol and Mark (with a hat tip to Lady Gaga) – Just Dance!” Awwww . Notice she left out the bit about slinging dope in a Target parking lot. Eh eh? Just kidding. We’re sure that didn’t happen. Actually we’re not sure, it very well may have. But you can’t trust anything that Life & Style says either.
